Unbelievable I cannot thank you enough for this it made this take apart and install look easy and very very well explained also it was easy, with RUclips knowledge only I was able to do this to my mustang 2018 gt w roush sc phase 2 I cannot thank you enough amazing video perfect instructions , ford needs to pay you.
Very detailed video, seeing as me and 2 friends are doing cams in our coyotes(2 of us are gen3 guys doing these same cams) this video is and will be a tremendous help. Thanks for the vid brother
@@SpeedAddict731 so if I need to replace the driver side intake phaser could I just remove the solenoid and that’s in front and keep the secondary chain in place. Then I just swap it out with the new one or would I still have to remove the timing cover just to replace that phaser?
Thank you for this video! The timing is what was giving me anxiety when reading the service manual but you explained it pretty well with visuals. Everything else seems cakewalk...Maybe that oil pan bolts but seems easy enough. I'll definitely report back when I get mine in!
Ken, great content my man, I love every tech video you make. Good news with my gen 2 Whipple supercharged car, it’s up and running now and I appreciate you helping with the repair instructions, supplying me with all the torque specs 🙏🏻
Great video and very detailed instructions gave me the confidence to do my own as well. I had one mistake and that was on Gen 3 cams there’s seals that need to be put on the cams. I totally missed them and was having issues with my cam timing with those seals missing the phasers wouldn’t hold oil pressure and my position B sensor was freaking out and shutting down VCT. I believe this only applies to Gen 3 motors, so if your reading this the video shows you step by step and I had no issues just those damn seals lol.
Funny, people keep asking this and no one ever responds, it's not the same, they should clarify this for people. Been working on my timing on my F150, no one has videos on it yet
Hey I just got my cams finally and going to be trying to install this weekend what is it do I exactly need for this job to be done I’m mostly just hearing I need the arp and that’s about it I can use all my stock stuff
Thank you for this. It was a little late for me as I first assembled mine off repair manual pictures only, and missed the 360 deg plus 5 o'clock part (that your repeated for good measure). If you take those 360 deg away the car will run on 4 cylinders and have compression on all cylinders. It will just have compression on the right bank when the ecu is planning for TDC exhaust stroke. The starter also hates life because compression stroke on both banks are stacked together. Throws cam codes on the right bank. Your video cleared it up and I took it apart again knowing what I had messed up.
Quick question if you can find the time. Cams are in but un-torqued just yet. The rh exhaust and lh intake cams doesn’t rock/sway freely like the others do. Is this normal? I was told a way of knowing you’re in neutral is the cam will have slight play to sway.
Speed Addict 731 I just wanna know for my own knowledge. I’m looking for cams for my wife’s 14 twin 72/74mm turbocharged mustang, if there’s even any made for that application for the Yote. I know the Farlo boys run a mod 5.4 and it’s wicked💯
Great video! I'm about to tackle the old Ford TSB for the noisey tensioners and the only question I have is that fuel tube for the HPFP. Did you just gently bend it up out the way or how did you make it clear the valve cover?
happy new year with your family and friends, thank you for your response, saves, where can I buy, find a procedure to install the timing chain on the f150 xlt 5th 2018
I think something to annotate for the install. The exhaust cams from comp cams on Gen 3 coyotes do not come with exhaust cam seals. There is two little seals on the end of the exhaust cams. Not the filter inside the intake cam
Great Video! I am in the middle of installing cams in my 2020 GT. I noticed you don't mention replacing the cam cap bolts with new ones, only the phaser bolts. Also, you don't mention the center cam bolts being replaced with new ones? Every ARP kit listed shows 12 bolts for the phasers, which is not correct for the engine I have or the engine in the video. Can you help with these part numbers please and source?
Ken, I’m stuck mid install with my whipple right now; please respond if you see this. I’m taking the valve covers off to do the OPG install, and I cannot find anything on the 2018+ valve cover removal. What do I do with the fuel pump? The bolt that seems to be the obvious bolt appears to lock up rather than loosen. Don’t want to break anything
What is your take on locking out the phasers I’m between just doing lockouts or stage 2 turbo cam when i do oil pump gears when my single kit gets here.
So say if you were Assembling a new motor with a new short block. You’d put the crank at 5 a clock then put the cams in and follow this exact video for the timing?
Hello great video. Is definitly needed to change the oil pump? My car has 10,000 miles and i alredy bouth the cam safts. Do you recomendme to change de pump?
Very good video. Back in the days not one guy would post how they did the timing on 4.6 dohc. Like it was Top secret lol. I think it’s easy on the coyote.
Thank you! Yea it’s not hard if you pay attention to detail the 4.6 was more aggravating with having to remove followers before removing timing chains. Still not bad but the coyote is easier.
Im seriously considering a cam upgrade.. Either a Vortech Procharger or a blower.. That's hardest decision for my 2019 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 PP1 Kona Blue.. I like the idea that the Vortech keeps engine bay stock with the strut tower brace.. Blower you have to change everything.. you cant keep the strut tower brace..
Ok so where are u located? I've got a 2017 gt and I want basically this exact same install done except instead of NA cams I'm going Paxton. Great video, only thing that scares me is removing and putting back on the oil pan and the pick up tube bolts. Is there any way of contacting you for the opg, cs, and cam job. I'm in upstate ny but wouldn't mind driving its just the only other places I've seen techs that are good with these jobs are in Florida and that's one hell of a drive for me.
I did a 2019 f150 and the crank key positions positions and cam timing marks were a different orientation. Why would ford make the mustang time differently from the f150?
@HPR, how did you determine that the crank needs to be rotated a full 360 back to the 5 o'clock position, then another 3/4 rotation back to 12 O'Clock? The repair manual doesn't say to do this
How did you get the rh valve cover off without removing the intake manifold? Doing opg and not having to remove the intake manifold for that line to the hpfp would save me a lot of time.
I did this myself and installed an Odin supercharger. Just cranked it up and got code p0019. Any thoughts? I followed the steps here and am 99% positive that the timing is correct...I dont want to tear everything back apart if I dont need to.
Hey Ken, I will doing OPG's and Comp Cams Stage 2 NA Mutha Thumper's on my 22' Mach 1. The Mach has 8k miles on it. What oil would you recommend for breaking in the new cams and OPG's? What length of breaking period can I expect? FYI in the Ford workshop manual it says to remove and discard all bolts that require replacement when it tells you to remove the bolts in each step such as the crank bolt and cam phaser bolts. However, they do not require replacement of cam cap bolts per the Ford workshop manual. Not sure as to why but I’m not an engineer. It doesn’t hurt to replace them but not required. I have never had any issues over the many years when working on these engines.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.. I've done my fair share of timing sets on these, but this one has me stumped.. As a added note.. the truck came in because it had a terrible noise that sounded like bad phasers or something going on with the timing set.. the driver also said if he didn't run premium gasoline, the truck would ping really badly.. I didn't notice any missing or running issues before I began the work..but the noise was definitely more prominent then it had been the last time I serviced the vehicle..
