    This precisely what my local tuner told me. If you're racing then go with a GT350 or 18 intake because all your gains are on the top end. If you're just street cruising and occasional street racing then the stock intake has better low end torque, but runs out at 6500rpm. Wondering how the complete Borla 8 stack set up fares. Expensive yes, but looks amazing.

  • @ShizawnSanders
    @ShizawnSanders 6 лет назад +2

    I have a 2013 5.0 and the truck manifold looks promising. Would like to know the difference in power through the curve of the truck manifold, stock 2015 manifold and stock 2011 manifold. They all drop off at 6500 but if you gained power everywhere else that would be a great bang for your buck. Many 1st gen Coyote owners dont want to rev past around 7000-7200K. Every single other manifold in this test would need to be revved to at least 7500 RPM or it would make the car slower vs the stock ones.

    Can I run an 18-20 truck manifold on my 2016 F150. 18 up added direct injection, mine is port only. And is the 18-20 truck manifold better than the 15-17? The reason I ask is my manifold is having imrc issues. A new oem 15-17 is 600 bucks, even on ebay. I found new pull offs for 18-20 for 99.00 plus shipping. Also, the 18 up everything manifolds have different attachment points behind the throttle body. What do I need to make everything hook up properly on my 2nd gen truck.

    How’s the 2018 f150 manifold compare I wonder. As the truck manifolds have a greater torque curve, maybe a ‘18 f150 manifold would be a good swap on Gen 1&2 f150’s
    Maybe a test on a ‘18 mustang VS ‘18 f150 manifold would be a good comparison.

      18 truck manifold was one of the dynos. It fell short on HP at higher rpm

  • @scottkayrouz236
    @scottkayrouz236 5 лет назад +1

    I’d say the outcome of the testing is either keep it stock and just shift at 6.6k rpm or waist money to pull an extra 1k rpm with no real hp improvements and potential catastrophic results attempting to get so much way upstairs like that. I love your dyno setup!! Awesome scientific testing done and thank you for that. Not quite the results most would expect but definitely worth the effort.

    • @writeupking
      @writeupking 3 года назад

      Yea , unfortunately you extra wrong. People have picked up not only hp gains but tenths off their quarter miles with the 2018 intake because they carry the power out further before shifting . In the next gear the rpms are higher than if they had shifted earlier , helping them stay in the usable power band . I'm going 2018 ported intake , you can run the stock manifold and get gapped if you like 😂

    The truck intake is the best power curve for anyone swapping this motor into a car with any manual transmission other than a built T56 cobra spec or better transmission.
    You just can’t get older synchronization technology to shift much over 6500-6800
    Also the older 5 speed transmissions have great gaps that are far larger than newer 6 speed transmissions.
    One question. Is the torque curve wave due to the variable valve timing?

    13:35 The Boss peaked at 7500 rpm because of the cams. Not the intake. Putting a Boss intake on a stock 2011 Mustang will not increase hp or change where the engine peaks.

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  6 лет назад

      The boss exhaust cam is 13mm lift vs 12mm lift, and for 15up, the cams are now 13mm lift too. Ford likes to roll the special technology from previous years into the new MY.

    I wouldn’t mind seeing a ported manifold shootout. I’m curious how a ported CJ, or ported gt350 mani would do?

  • @kritikopedo
    @kritikopedo 2 года назад

    Did you have the IMRCs locked out on the 2018 intake mani? I am no tune, 2017 gtp stock. My IMRC flaps are busted and i want to upgrade to the 2018 intake mani. I'm think of locking out the IMRC to full open and removing the IMRC junk from behind the new intake. After zip tying all the loose connections behind the intake manifold, will my car throw a CEL without anything hooked up to the lose pigtails? I am trying to avoid taking it anywhere for a tune. Don't want any CELs. If the car will drive fine without the IMRCs, I don't see a reason to retain them. It's not like it gets good gas mileage in the city anyway...

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  2 года назад

      Either way you have to tune it, if you keep IMRC or delete, and the tuning is a lot better/cleaner when you keep them because the factory logic stays in place.

    I'm surprised with the results from the GT350 intake vs 2018 intake. They are the same here yet the Bullitt and Mach 1 pull 30+ hp and 15 trq at the wheels with that same GT350 intake. Is this attributed to readjusted tune to take advantage of the larger intake?

    • @mikep1584

    I think you guys are really underestimating the truck manifold. It made significantly more torque and even more horsepower up to 5500 rpm. Who cares about peak HP numbers past 6500 rpm. How much time is the motor actually going to spend between 6500 to 7500 rpm anyway? On the street, the truck manifold is going to feel the most torquey and enjoyable to drive. It is probably the cheapest manifold in the bunch as well. I'm curious if porting the truck manifold would have helped the dropoff after 6500 rpm while still maintaining the superior low-end torque.

      We can always get one of those ported for you. The truck has a larger engine bay so the intake is a little taller and appears to have more runner length.

  • @madmod

    • @madmod
      @madmod 2 года назад +1

      That truck manifold impressed me too. It made more peak horsepower than the boss 302 manifold and average more hp and tq up until 6500rpms. The boss 302 manifold is common on the 5.4 because it fits over the stock alternator location. Honestly, given that the 5.4 4v sbe is only safe to around 6500rpms, the truck manifold may be the best suited to the combo. Thanks for sharing all this!

    Would have loved to see how a ported Boss 302 manifold stacked up to the ported 18. Think most people buying an 18 or boss for that matter typically would go for the ported version of that intake so why not test it as so? Personally speaking I have a 2012 Boss 302, long tubes, no cats, on e85 with my oem boss manifold being ported put down 464 to the tires.

    This just proves the stock intakes are designed very good and are great Street intakes, of course if you’re going all out and racing and searching for every last tenth of a second then I can see the advantages of some of the other intakes, imho most people should just stick with The stockers, great torque and torque on the street makes it more fun for spirited driving where most avg people are going to be driving their cars, I’m all for going fast but if you’re getting to 7500 or 8200 on the street you’re going to be insanely speeding, just goes to show you you don’t have to do much to the new vehicles to be fast, Ford did a great job, my next 5.0 will be axle back, intake and ford tune, doesn’t need anything else!

  • @JustinAEgan
    @JustinAEgan 6 лет назад

    Maybe I missed it or wasn't able to read between the lines ...you didn't seem to cover the issue of whether you needed or used larger than stock Throttle body (unless you covered that in the "ported" manifold)?
    The factory 80 mm vs the GT350 87mm or one of the recent aftermarket versions...which are 90mm, 92mm+.
    I've heard they give inconsistent (touchy!) street tuning problems - sensitivity? The 2015 - 2017 have factory control over the secondaries, I would not want to give that up by using the CJ manifold on a street driven car.
    I settled on the GT350 with 87mm GT350 throttle body. ... and yes - it can be sensitive coming off throttle, but when monitoring the AF ratio, it works the 12.5 - 13.7 range during a full throttle pull just as you would expect. Recovery can be touchy - until the computer re-adjust to "street" driving mode again.
    I decided to stay with the GT350 stage 3 kit.
