I'm so glad that you provided a transcription of this, so that I can see in much better detail how I can't do this

if you break it down bar by bar there are learnings to be made at technical and rhythmic levels for intermediate level players +
I like JD's fill at 0:00-3:30
This comment needs to be at the top

Honestly, you know what’s really impressive about this? The transcription. Good job, bet it took forever.
Probably not the first person to compare this transcription to June Lee's work.
Thank God it's just inverted paradiddles...I thought it was magic
That's exactly why I do these... to distil the magic
Inverted paradiddles or not. Getting them up to that speed is something I'll never learn to do. Still magic for me 🙃
@@PezrulezHaakon i dont understand the "ill never be able to do this" of course you can its a matter of actually putting in the work
@@pablomarin-marquez1028
It has to do with that genetics play a big part in this. To say that everybody can do this or any given complicated thing, is saying that everyone can be as good as Weckl, Buddy Rich, or fast as Kollias, or someone at their level, with only practice. If so, there would be many hundered thousands drummers as good as they are. But there aren't.
Same would go for any athletic sport where everyone can run 100m dash under 9 seconds, or lift 500 lbs over their heads, with only training.
I have extremely bad bang-for-each-practiced-hour-buck. I would know after over 30 years of drumming, still being a mediocre drummer. I've never been close to rudiment speed and orchestration like this.
@@PezrulezHaakon i don't buy into this whole genetics shit. Just because you dont practice efficiently doesnt mean you cant learn to. Of course im not going to change your opinion on genetics or whatever, but what i can do is say this. If you have the mindset of "i cant be this good" you will not be this good. Think of a child prodigy drummer. They have been told their whole life they're special, and that they can become somethimg great, all because they have talent. That kid is then going to have the image in their mind that they can infact become whatever they want and so they wont let things like bad practice stop them. They will find a way to persevere. I personally have had trouble being efficient in my practice now and then. So what did i do? I wrote down my short term goals to conplete in a week. Then i wrote the things i needed to practice to achieve them. And finally i wrote specifically how long and what im going to practice each day. The "mandatory" goal oriented practice is divided into an hour, so no time to be wasted. If im allowed to play for more, then i can explore new ideas freely without feeling guilty that I havent practiced the important stuff.
This is what happens when you practice 30 hours a day
Daniel Emmanuel not 40?
40 ling ling
Also when Mike Mitchell is one of the guys giving you drum lessons.
surely u mean 40
For anyone curious, the keyboard is playing "havona" by weather report
Thought so, laying it down hard also.
I mean they are playing Havona together? Not just her haha
@@abramolivas8040 hahaha
Oh, it's Havona! Thanks!
I think most of the ignorant warriors who are criticizing don't even know where this tune comes from
These guys look like characters out of a Wes Anderson movie. I can't tell if the drummer is 12 or 20. I imagine the keys player to have taken a vow of silence. JD is insane. They're both insane.
He's like 15 or 16
@@banjomango145 crazzzy
a person nahhh I think he’s a bit older now. Maybe 17
@@8PedroFerreira still mental though. He plays like a seasoned veteran

The unsung hero of this whole thing is DOMi’s time.
Her time is remarkable! Sometimes they do some crazy harmonic rhythmic where she loops the crazy pattern while JD improvises over it, and she is an absolute machine.
I wouldn't call it unsung. Half of this comment section is singing her praise.
What a unique style this kid has. Thanks again for the amazing transcriptions Tony!
WOW! I played with this kid at the Prophet Bar In Deep Elum 4 years ago. RC would let him set in with the band all the time. He was just a kid at a bar with his dad. INSANE CHOPSS!
Sometimes "busy" drummers get annoying but JD has such nuance and subtlety that it never comes across as overly "look at me". As someone commented earlier his playing is a great complement to DOMi's keyboard work. This is one tight drum-and-keys duo!
edit: I've just watched this for the sixth time, and who needs tom-toms anyway?
One thing nobody comments on is how quiet he plays. It's total control to play fast and quiet like that. Also It seems he rarely does the Jazz triplet on the ride. Most of his strikes are straight beats.
I was trying to play like this at Guitar Center and someone behind me came and played on another kit in a traditional gospel chops-ish style, and it was like night and day with the dynamic range, I couldn't even hear myself
I have an unhealthy wish to make a Geometry Dash level to this...
Патриарх Кирилл still waiting for 2.2
Ahahahahah never expected this wow
JD Beck Transcription; might as well just have written a solid black bar on all the staves XD
What a player!
as a drummer i probably should be more interested in jd's wizardry but i am more interested in domi's amazing soloing over havona. both equally wicked musicians, a wonderful duo.
Domi is the best jazz pianist i have ever seen, because its about how she moves from one chord to another in odd and inventive ways we havents really seen before, and then theres a sick beat to ride on. It is Amazing!!
And Jd Beck?
she is amazing... but you need to listen to more players
The power of music. Where a simple 4/4 time signature can turn into so many rhythmic possibilities.
I think you missed the part where this is in 73628/37.53 time
Whenever I hear people complaining about too many chops in a song, it just sounds like they are mad they will never be this talented
This is Havona from Weather Report. The future of jazz is safe where wiz kids like these are taking classics to a whole new level !
i thought no one watched this video more than me! you straight transcibed it!!!! i appreciate your time bro!!!
Dude I'm with u, I swear I've watched it 1'000 times.
Amazing work Tony, thank you for sharing !! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
These kids are just incredibly something very special, they are so inspiring to make the best you can do to elevate ourselves. BRAVO ..GREAT PARENTING SKILLS RIGHT HERE..THANK BOTH OF YOU .LOVE !!!!
Thank you so much for going through this! I really appreciate it! I mean really really, I can't say it enough.
This is the best boring music I've ever heard.
Yes I'm jealous.
This video is weirding me out but for some reason I keep coming back to it, the groove on this is absolutely savage
@@gaz2188
Groove? What groove? No space and no feel. Lots of speed......ahhhh. Yeah, lots of speed.
@@supmet2 Jd Beck has some of the best grooves I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. As someone who loves this syncopated shit, Jd is the perfect drummer to lisen to. I have what do you mean by no feel man like bruh deadass no cap have no idea what you mean by that.
magan lmao what are you talking about
@@supmet2 Naw i can feel you.... But alot of people watching this are in that Jazz/outside stage of their music hence the video.... So they may act defensive towards you... That's ok, you got groove! and feel! plus the space to let it breathe! So if they're all mental about their music and no soul that's ok focus on your groove feel and space.... Or for some this is too advanced for the ears.... Or for some this is just like a kid reciting scriptures or riffs someone else wrote but didnt have life experience so the words or in this case his playing has no potency. Alot of technical ability, but no feeling in it. A million ways at looking at every perspective! But everything is as it is besides any opinion. Yours or anyone elses including me! Om, Love, Yeaaahhh!!!
I like the part where he plays the drums
Lmfao
This was Awesomeness 👌 Thanks for this share.... as for JD&Domi pure perfection 🥰
Just rolling out the jams. Could listen to hours and hours of this, please do more together!
This is GOLD!!!!!!!!! Thank you for this!
The type of fast playing the internet needs. Damn
That is the sweetest sounding snare drum I have ever heard.
Sounds good. Well it's a motivating too. So I bought myself e-drums already and will start to go to play on it soon thanks to this kind of videos. So thank you all.
Whoever this guy is on the drums, he is a gift from the man upstairs.
I've never seen someone look so unimpressed with their own playing lol
Thank you once again for the fantastic job!
Amazing job.....drumming and transcription.....very ...very...oustanding-awesome job!!!
They are really letting their hair down on this one, total command with some deep listening to each other. Hoping for more of this ❤😊
I love everything about this
He is a genuine phenomenon! Tasteful virtuosity!
Everything about this video is so odd. The groove, the melody, the artists. But to be fair....
It's so odd that it's brilliant. Incredibly technical stuff. Also kudos for the insane transcription
Yes! Thank you! This is awesome!
I’m a mere mortal, my mind can’t comprehend what I’m seeing.
The fact that noone in the comments recognize that this is a cover of a Weather Report tune absolutely breaks my heart. We need to up music education.
which weather report song is this?
nvm its havona
We knew that, well I did, oh never mind
Nice job on the transcription, subbed!
It would take me 10 years to transcribe this, amazing job

Man this is completely amazing, why are you giving this for free ????!!!! you have put insane amount time to master this skill , not everyone can do this, In my point of view, it's to easy to give all this for free.... just my opinion .....
Did anyone else notice some 64th notes In there 😂
And the 32th notes inside sextuplets
Yeah man, I think he was using Buzz rolls there to get those guys in.
anything can be a 64th note depending on how you transcribe it :P
@@takeme2urleader589 Yeah it all depends on the tempo and time signature... But in this case the whole thing was fast, making a 64th note a true 64th note in terms of how fast it can be.

Thank you so much. Your videos are amazing. There is a gold mine of information on your channel. I'm a big fan and I'm learning a lot from your videos. If you don't mind me asking, what music notation software do you use?
Thank you! I really appreciate the support :)
I use Sibelius for my notation
Crazy version of havona, great!!!
just want to point out buddy rich's signature is on the wall behind JD, pretty kool, old masters vs new masters
Esse ( MUNDO ) , novo da bateria, inventa cada frescurinha , que eu vou te dizer ! rs
Rumor has it, JD got his start drumming the voices of the aliens in Signs.
Instantly recognizable. I wonder what Zawinul would have thought about this?
thanks!!!!❤️
JD is a sick drummer man

Eres muy linda DOMI
Funny transcribing that - he’s just playing what pops into his head
