I love how the most replayed moment of this video is when Louis accidentally drops his stick and it still sounds like the funkiest ghost note lick. 1:33 Like Louis is so grooving that when he drops his stick, it just continues to play funky shit. He's turning time and space around him into pure drum'n'bass
I just realized why I didn’t notice that at first... because not only does it SOUND perfectly in time, it even LOOKS like it wasn’t a mistake because his hand was following the stick so closely that it would appear he didn’t even lose grip of it at all lol Sorry that probably made absolutely no sense at all fucj
That's actually pretty easy lol. What I would have trouble with is when he alternates between his left hand and foot on the hihat while doing an interesting rhythm on the snare...
Gabriele Russo I am well aware. I was born in 1979. And I know all that has happened since then. The person who made the comment about the Mac book did not.
Jungle uses drumbreaks originally played by humans and in my opinion most good "jungle" NOT using breaks tries to mimic the human nuances and feel that occur in breakbeats by using velocity thresholds and quantizing techniques. That "groove/feel" is kind of what jungle is founded on. Now.. Playing some Venetian Snares on a kit would definitely be a impossible challenge. Listen to the album "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született" if you haven't already. It uses the Winston's "amen" brother breakbeat in 7/4 profusely and has the craziest drilling manipulations of this break I have personally ever heard!
@@ivanitchycock it's basically confirmed. I saw Louis use the same exact drum set as the "clowncore drummer". Plus they have the same sound AND same technique. Must be a coincidence.
@@Raidenofficial yeah, it's basically common knowledge at this point. as a drummer I would have to agree that the style being basically the same is enough by itself to confirm it.
0:50 I have to say, I've never seen that before in 7 years of looking up drum videos, and it's one the most brilliant tricks I've seen. I thought I was hearing double hits in Jack Conte's Passenger seat video, and thought "no way", but apparantly, yes way.

A Lonely Lizard, it is impressive, 7.8k people think so. Your disagreeable comment? 2 people think so, 1 of whom could be yourself. That's perspective.
@Oliver Hancock that is true, having the drums in tune with the rest of the instruments ties them all together, and can make the difference between a song sounding way off and a song sounding perfect
I fucking love that Cole drops his stick at the least technical part of his entire performance real and its still perfectly within his preestablished tempo.
I got recommended this video because I'm interested in playing drums and I've been watching drum videos for a week now. RUclips is like "btw, look at this dude and give up now"
Drum as if you can see several separate rhthym streams and perform them effortlessly. And he's obviously very gifted. Never, ever give up on developing a skill you have in a smaller quantity than those you see. Compete to develop. You can't know what training will develop in you. Start with the beat and get relaxed, live in it. You can do wonderful things, and surprise yourself.
I feel like someone has a Louise Cole button in their bedroom and when they press it, he pops out of the closet with a drum kit. Hit the button again and he slides back in.
FYI, Cole is featured in the June issue of Modern Drummer. There's a cool interview with him. He talks about his days at USC studying with Ndugu Chancler, Peter Erskine, and Aaron Serfaty. He said he grew up listening to lots of James Brown with Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks on drums. That makes sense when you listen to him play.
I found this video like 10 years ago, had no idea who this was or what I was listening to, then like, maybe 2 years ago I found louis cole's music and realized holy shit... it's the DnB guy!!!
I literally re-round this part 10 to 20 times when he drops the sticks and I’m so puzzled. It actually goes with the beat. And it’s a sophisticated mistake done on purpose I don’t know? But it’s definitely awesome either way
Thank god RUclips recommended me this video..albeit a decade later. This was my introduction to Louis Cole. The power of the drum and bass was so undeniable I had to launch further inquiries. And now I’m a lifelong LC fan!
Hopefully this will give more drummers the courage they need to come out of the closet.
