Like a lot of FFXIV enemies, the song compliments the enemy you fight. In this case Omega's song does so beautifully. The song 'eScape', is both a call towards how Omega itself wants to return home, escape to his star essentially and the lyrics tell of its story. The way I like to interpret it is as follows:
It is a 'ship,' one designed to seek strong enemies and in the course of its chase of Midgardsormr, it became a 'drifting tender,' after suffering damage it could no longer communicate back to its star thus becoming a 'Galleon severed.'
'Stormheads gathers,' could also reflect how it suffered electrical damage during its travels as well as its own doubts, thus when it desperately wanted to go back home, a futile endeavour, it decided it couldn't thus, 'illusions scattered.'
The entire next fast spoken bit is a reference to how once it landed on our star, it simply waited in hibernation mode, watching or sensing civilisations come and go, most likely referring to the many calamities. It's next piece: 'Hark the heralds, anchors aweigh! Hither happens mine escape,' refers to the fact when we awoke it to fight Shinryu. 'Freedom forgone, sinking apace. Comets crumble, Phoebus fades,' this refers to when Shinryu's prison began to decay (moon falling) and thus Omega prepares to fight. 'Under cosmic clamor decayed, hides a path untaken,' is about how its fight against Shinryu will be the next big step in achieving its main directive of finding a strong enemy, but unfortunately it suffers during the fight, so it must instead retreat to its Interdimensional Rift.
The next part comes with, 'ancient echoes, in deafening silence,' referring to Shinryu's sudden defeat at our hands silencing the 'ancient' cries of Ala Mhigo. Following this immediately is 'a wave of hazard, a-whorling inward,' referring to us approaching its domain to deal with it. We ARE the hazard presented to Omega and thus a chance to achieve its main directive.
The second fast spoken section following is a description about the challenges it brings against us, the 'Stellar stories, starward bestrewn,' refers to how they throw at us 'stories' of other games and their bosses to test us, but we as 'slipping sideways, see, they're snakes,' somehow managed to overcome their probability of odds. 'Twixt the leaves you'll find naught amiss-missing aughts and crossing fates,' details how it keeps calculating odds of us surviving, but somehow we keep surviving but still within bounds. 'Freedom surgent shifting ahead, comets dancing in her wake To the cosmic clarion's accord, along the path not taken,' is about how it seems to think we may be the next step towards its 'evolution' in order to escape our star and return home, after our victories has 'comets dancing in her wake' referring to the star singing our praises.
The final bit is about how they try to kill us and fight us. 'Try, dare the dead tread ahead on a road that is borrowed, Design, through the sum of their sons do they seek tomorrow,' is how they think our power is only limited and 'borrowed' as far as we wish to depending on threat, and thus Omega attempts to see our true peak, only to be stopped by Midgardsormr, who is our 'sum of their sons' referring to the legacy of our star. 'Tonight, witness then as the end shall begin what was final, Their lies, folding back, further back, ever back to the primal,' finally we come to the climax, it finally catches up to the present, we are here and ready to fight against Omega, we have given them all the data and told them what they lack is a 'heart', a human like essence that no machine can really replicate with data alone. To Omega this is a 'lie', one which it doesn't understand in its current form and thus only by reverting to its 'Primal' or 'primitive' form can it truly comprehend, thus instead fighting as it is.
I think a lot of these lyrics actually imply Omega knows a lot more about the history of our star then most. Shb/EW spoilers ahead:
"Their lies, folding back, ever back to primal" is about Hydalyean and Zodiark. Both are known as "Gods" but they're both just primals.
"Begin then that was final" I think this refers to The Final Days that destroyed the ancients. Somehow, Omega knows about this and knows it's going to happen again. But one of the stars Meteion found in space was The Omicrons. This must be how Omega knows what any of that is.
"Design, through the sum of their sons do they seek tomorrow" I think this is just about the dragons and their ability to adapt. Omega found our star while chasing Midgarsomr, who escaped the dragonstar with a clutch of eggs. The broods are "their sons" seeking tomorrow on our star.
wait, it's not about chicken tenders?
I appreciate your words and your time. Thanks for sharing them with ourselves.
Sometimes such detailed analysis provides an eScape some might never have known otherwise.
I myself am one who could write entire novellas dedicated to a single blade of grass, that is to say, I quite value long form analysis.
Such as your comment.
Though it's not thaaaat long but ceste la vie, can't burn a kingdom to the ground over a single stinkbug amidst the castle walls now can we?
@@dianauwu1312 I like to think the Omicrons being in the fold of Ultima Thule was a deliberate choice for the attentive to notice.
It's also a way to note the reason Midgardsormr fled to Etheirys because Vrtra makes it a point to have also brought it up.
I really love how it's all coming together.
this. this is why ff14 has the best community. the story is like our gospel and we spread it.
This is now another reason for Clive to freak out when he visits Eorzea.
I love that meme lol

It’s literally Omega lyrics with Alexander instruments and a bit of Crystal Tower. Genius
@@shadow0fx ⁰
It's funny how much Omega essentially is the reason everything from 2.X onward happen, because its existence is what led to THAT moment before Heavensward because it's the main reason that merchant potato caused such problems, and it's also the reason why we even travel outside of Eorzea in Stormblood to begin with.
Glad to hear this in Expert Roulette now

Another thing this track has in common with Rise!
Is it weird that I choked up when Omega discovered Dynamis? lol
there's just nothing i love more than the fact that they used sea-faring language and phrasing for this song - it really makes me a little emotional thinking of Omega lost 'at sea' all that long lonely time

@@Khontis OMG same ! 🤣
Noooo cannot unhear. Stop it.
It took me until just now to notice the brilliant wordplay of "eScape".
I don’t get it
@@NintheWhoit's a double entendre. The letters spell the word "escape," which is the first meaning. The second meaning is derived from the deliberate capitalization of the S, implying that the word is actually two abbreviations, those for "electronic" and "landscape." So it simultaneously is written as "escape" and "electronic landdcape."
Just came here after FF16 Omega boss from DLC to compare soundtracks. Damn FFX16 is really a playground for Soken
Holy shit, this song has gotta be the song with the most foreshadowing in this game lmao. First Shadowbringers, and now Endwalker reveals more and explains the title of the song.
Yoshi P did say Omega was important to Endwalker/the plot as a whole, now we know why. A lot of these lyrics match up with the story of Etheirys whether by coincidence or not. One of my favourites being "Under cosmic clamour decayed lies a path untaken". That path being the one we end up walking :)
Can u explain a bit about what this foreshadowed? You can include a spoiler warning
@@ripphd3831 I can explain it. And consider this a spoiler warning for 6.0 if anyone is reading this.
When the song turns into a faster, alliteration heavy, autotuned portion, it starts to directly address the idea of 14's universe from the eyes of the omicron. Asking why wanderers wade, for instance, is directly paralleling the concept of Azem, of you. Phoebus fades is a way to address the heat death of the universe, and how there is no way forward. Except, amongst the debris, there's a path not taken. Quite literally the end of ultima thule, where you walk the end.
When addressing fate, and the "clairon's accord," this is heavily relevant to the lyrics used in other songs, about the "song of hope." Used on the path not taken. It's almost directly a different phrasing of saying on wings of hope you rise up through the night, carrying a song.
Also, all the relations to ships in this song can be used to explain either the concept of the moon, or the ship ragnarok
In the context of Endwalker, this song makes me wonder what plot elements were planned and in place at what point. FFXIV sometimes feels like a very well improvised story, but this is one of the instances where they had to know they were going to dive deeper into the topic of Omega's origin later.
Omega played a big role in the lore for a long time
Iirc omega is what kickstarted the allagan tech boom
And what caused the dragons to come to eorzea
@@treedude4246 For real. Omega was a looming shadow over the plot for a long, long time. He (or his people, rather) are also the only reason that dragons came to our world as the demigods they are to this day.
Considering Omega is mentioned as early as ARR, I daresay this was in the works for a long time
If I remember correctly they plan 2 expansions ahead.
@@Crispierbug Which seems about right. An example I can think of is the Dancer quest line in Shadowbringers which seems to pretty much be a preview of the main threat of Endwalker.
I love, love, LOVE the way the chorus has that weird split with the two voices, with the last word of each line being left to slot into the next phrase for the next voice. It's the fascinating little intricacies like this that lift FFXIV music above not only other game music, but above pretty much all music.
What... is this?! Dynamis?
[realizes these lyrics are used in a long fall] wait a god damn second
A long fall is crystal tower+omega+alexander
Theres an absurd amount of leitmotif in the soundtrack if you look for it. Like in a lot of heavensward dungeons you can hear parts of hw theme and so on.
@@KlaireMurre Yeah I ended up noticing that!! God FFXIV's music is ridiculous. Soken, you madman.
It's crazy looking back on this series that Omega used its universal construction technology to basically create a new Stigma node for the data processing necessary to run its simulations.
A CHICKEN TENDERRRRRRR
WITH A SIIIDE OF FRIIIEEEEEEEES
This song is so catchy. I just started playing FF14 a couple weeks ago, so I've never even done the Omega fight. I didn't even know about the devs having a band until I saw Rich Campbell play this song on his stream, I think from their performance at their fanfest a couple years back. It immediately got stuck in my head. The best part is the guitar work, and I say that as a fellow guitarist. The riffing here has so much groove that it's impossible for me to not bob my head in appreciation. My favorite part is definitely the repeating sort of pre-chorus/hook that you hear the first time at 0:53. So damn catchy.
Im also new since I started like a month ago on the trial but the music to these bosses are so good! Never realized how good the music is in itself and now I've been listening to a lot of it!
Hope you both are enjoying the game still. But you are venturing into the comment sections of content you haven’t played yet? Mad lads! XD
I love how the lyric "A wave of hazard" lines up with Omega using larboard or starboard cannon in gameplay.. because it is like a wave of hazard that you have be sure to avoid
I will literally never skip the intro to this raid.
That feel when you realize the lyrics from a song in Stormblood is about one of the biggest plot twists in Shadowbringers. Masterpiece.
Really?
@@cheesybutters5053 I don't want to spoiler it in case you haven't reach it, but have you entered The Twinning?
@@iceheart3096 oh, okay i think i understand
Shit, you right
And then you realize more in end walker
They remixed this in ffxvi
After playing endwalker… the lyrics of this songs change’s drastically….. i hope we dare to see survivors of the alphastar
Im pretty sure they were the omicrons in ultima thule
@@lucasthehumanity8240 nope, those are memories of meteion taking form in the last moments of their existence.
@@75skyloftmexican mere echoes of a civilization brought to oblivion by Meteoin's embrace.
The Omicrons are gone.
i think now that there's aether in ultima thule again they're "more real," i guess? like, meteion kept them alive as dynamis beings to feed off their despair was the impression i got, but post-EW they're still hanging around.
so since, notably, all three races we meet in ultima thule are immortal, they might be the same ones from millenia ago.
@@75skyloftmexican I love how you said "nope" then you made one big nope two times. Yes, those were Omicrons, and because they were memories this means they are technically the only Omicrons that exist and you will ever see.
I keep coming back to this version specifically for the ending part around 4:03. The way they cut the vocals so the instrumental can breathe as it plays the song out, then hit you with the pitch shift as the whole thing winds down is just so good.
Once in a while I get this raid in roulette and every time I forget what larboard/starboard is, and the fact that he's gonna spin around and blast the opposite side anyway.
It's amazing how you could hear Lenna's theme(FFV) at the chorus.
I knew something tickled my brain. I never noticed all the alliteration.; thanks for making a lyric video!
This hits different in TOP phase 5
Oddly appropriate too, they knew what they were doing. This song gets most players really pumped up and hyped- perfect to portray dynamis.
This is one of those songs that I love so much yet still can’t comprehend what’s being said WHILE THE LITERAL WORDS ARE SEENT WITH MY EYES!!! (Thank you for this, up-land, er, up-LOADer)
It's just fast, during those parts turn it to 0.75 speed and you can actually listen each word being said.
After some training you can not only listen It in real time but also sing along too.
It's a sea shanty for space travel. It's why the singing has that "yo-ho" feel to it. Also, the super-sped up chorus is the Allagan leitmotif again.
Holy shit FF16...
Just a shame that the mount doesn’t have this song on it 😭
It’s a crime honestly I wanted the mount for this song but then I found out it didn’t have the song so I stopped
came back to this after kicking omega's ass in ffxvi
The entirety of omegascape backdrop and the eyes gave me huge Angels Egg vibes from Amanos prior work.
Just finished the quest line the other day, man the last few fights were a real workout.
we return with ff16 o7
Well we now know where Omega came from.
This now being in ffxvi is quite awesome
I love this song, thanks for the lyrics, been curious for years about it.
this is my favorite savage fight ever. this is the first tier ever that i tried to do in savage and this fight and song have an special place in my heart. this fight is so fun and the song so so catchy
It really is underrated. Sad that most new players will never get to experience Pantokrator
@xianxia2949 o11s is literally my favorite savage fight. Barely any repeating mechanics and it honestly felt novel after deltascape and sigmascape got kinda stale. Makes me want to give TOP a try even though I just got back into the game after a year long hiatus just so I can do pantokrator 2 electric Boogaloo
When you find the 9th Astronaut
Its crazy how compressed together those lyrics are at some points hah, still love this song a lot.
The way it melds together "Design, through the sum of their sons do they seek tomorrow" its more like "Designthroughthesumoftheirsonsdotheyseektomorrow"
It's not supposed to be an organic sounding song lol.
@@RandomFlask175 Those parts are amazing after you figure out how they flow to each other tho'. 6 beats on "Design", then the following sentence throws three-sillabes per beat thrice at you, then finishes with four sillabes on a beat and holds the last note or adds two more in the last verse. The fact that it seems like chaos but it's actually a super structured part makes it soooo good.
Seeing Koji Fox sing it live though, god damn I'm blown away lol
This song has BETTER be in TOP. It's just too good to not have a spot
And it was. I now associate some parts of the song every trio in TOP's phase 5.
Run: Dynamis
10/10, would play romantic music again.
Am I the only one that gets chilles from the lyrics after all that happens till now? XD
The chorus means so much when taken with what happens in shadowbringers
Endwalker: Allow me to introduce myself.
Here after Echoes of the Fallen.
Yup, this has officially become Omega's leitmotif.

1992: You find Omega, and ya sings and Omega have depression and is killed.
2017: Omega puts this in his battle, and gives you depression, because he is so dificult to kill.
the tides are also referenced in any songs about hydaelyn or light magic. "Loving tide, sweep in, and bear you down."
Not only the song is on point, but the whole video feels like what could be the official video. Everything was perfectly timed and looks really refined in the end
Heck yeah. I love this one.
All around, I still think this is the coolest fight in the game
One day ill be able to sing this and rise but today is not that day
I first heard this during stigmascape and was pleasantly surprised to hear it again when backtracking through older content
Holy moly never realised how compressed some of the lyrics are
That ending hits so different.

1:07 ANCIENT ACORNS!
Something about the last 40 seconds is just magical. Sounds like the ending of a saga or an anime or something. I just love it.
Phase 5 hell
I don't play FFXIV but i freaking enjoy it's music!
This video makes me cry seeing him confit the fists instead of using the duty action
So this song was foreshadowing the events of end walker
This kind of reminds me of a more slickly produced, dance party version of the metal band Boris, and I never knew I needed that in my life. Glad I started playing this game. Much love
I feel like there aren't enough people talking about that Azys Lla motif in the chorus
I came here just to talk about that! Realized it today when I was running Fractal Continuum. I love it, so clever!
That why this sounds familiar
Scale and Steel has the same motif. Even during the showdown with us, Omega never forgot Shinryu.
holy shit that's mindblowing I can't believe I never noticed that

1:45 "along the path not taken"
next line... "Echoes of thruth that once rang clear" hello there dragonsong xD
this sounds so much like a guilty gear song that i thought the singer was daisuke ishiwatari for a sec
From someone who is getting through the plot of FFXIV as slowly as possible and therefore doesn't know enough lore to know what's going on here, this looks like a robot has gained just enough sentience to attempt poetry but begins to struggle with their wording the more damage they take.
The lyrics in this song are stereo. Nice.
Midgardsomr... you might be the real hero all along.
Somehow, after completion of Oceanhorn 2 and that final fight with the namesake Oceanhorn, I got Omega vibes from it and how to set my mind music to this for the Oceanhorn fight. XD
