This perform is marvelous not only for Clapton. If you all can listen and see what Nathan East, Steve Gad, Doyle Bramhall and all musicians do, you'll see that is the perfect combination of a band.
Eric Clapton recorded this in 1974. His version was a #1 hit in the US, the only #1 of his career. Clapton's recording gave Marley a big boost, as it exposed him to a rock audience. thank you Eric
I may have to stop listening to music after hearing this. This was simply the most powerful display of guitar virtuosity I have ever heard. How is it possible for a human being to be able to physically play like that, let alone remember the order and exquisite timing of every note? Anybody who could memorize the music in that song is a genius. To then be also able to play it with that feeling, timing, and perfection.... Clapton is a gift and we will not see his like again.
Well, I can see why you are fascinated by Clapton's skills and his virtuosity... but there are a handful of similiar gifted guitar legends. Of course, it is always a matter of personal taste, but to name a further guitarist playing on that level I'd say you have to have a try on Tony Iommi! If you liked clapton's solo I can recommend the solos and harmonies on the Sabbath album 'Heaven and Hell'. It may be heavier than Eric Clapton, but if we take our focus on epic guitar solos Iommi can definetly compete with him.
He is really Damn Good. But we've got to consider this is just a minor G blues, meaning that it's simple, what doesn't make it easy. The big challenge is not to keep repeating yourself, but Eric is a very seasoned guy, and know his thing. But I've gotta say, this rendition is just wonderful. On your comment about memorization, probably if you ask Eric himself to play it again, he wouldn't do it in the same way. He got carried out by the moment, and improvised his solo in that very instant, and that's the magic of it. It's pure and straight from heart, and I finish saying: he probably had a very good day in this performance.
It is always a blessing , to enjoy Eric Clayton do his thing on the guitar , with a great performance by the bass man . I can hear that tune over and over .
When this came out I purchased the DVD. I though everything here was Epic. This is the best live/recording of this song, ever. Claptons intro, the bass, the amazing crescendo solo that blurs blues with rock music, and the bad ass drummer, who now I realize is nobody but the fantastic Steve Gadd. His drums always sound the same. Always perfectly tuned, no annoying echoing, just pure drum sounds that ears enjoy. The recording here is great. By the way, there is a higher resolution version of this with much better sound on youtube.
There are many gifted guitar players. What separates Clapton from most is that he was the first. He truly cracked everything open with the Beano Album with John Mayall. He has dedicated his entire life to his music. He’s put in the work and played with everyone which in turn made him a better player. The only thing he felt for Hendrix was affection and when he died that definitely contributed to a downward spiral. But again he emerged and continued to work at the guitar. He’s seen the depths of hell and and emerged as a realized artist.
Game, set and match. The best of his generation! The phrasing and melodic build up to the solo is unreal. Often overlooked us EC rhythm playing, which is first class. Amazing how his voice got so much better as he got older and more confident. You listen to his sixties and seventies vocals and their good, but starting in the eighties and beyond his singing excelled!
This is a great version. I've been watching videos of my favorites, Robin Trower, Jimi, Stevie Ray and the little I can find of the incredible Duane Allman. Still, I keep coming back to Clapton. Some say he isn't as fast as the others. Poppycock. He just makes it look easy. But it's not his top notch technique that draws listeners to "God" but the sheer beauty of his lines. A single note can move me. His vibrato is magical. In the famous words of Jack Bruce: "Eric Clapton, please, Above all."
I have shared this with so many people they are amazed as i am everytime i listen to this I wait for Eric to come play i mussed one heck of a Crossroads but will be at tjis years my first. See you in 24 days too in Pittsburgh
Lead is amazing but the minimalist bass is incredible -- and drum counter punch works perfectly. Every note counts and not too much. That's how it's done all you bass players out there!
Great song originally from Bob Marley but this version proves clapton successfully combined reggae and blues on a trespassing mode . Great artist , superb guitarist and gentleman
Wow this was uploaded 13 years ago when I had no idea about the greatness or existence of such class. Thanks for uploading this back then! You're one of the best!
Keith Richards said Eric Clapton took a 6 month sabbatical & came back as God, which he's still trying to live down. Perhaps it's warranted, after all a English man pulling off a Bob Marley song & giving me chills is nothing to sneeze at!
It is sad...something is terribly sad. The music that i love is from another historical period. I feel alone. I feel sad for the lack of creativity of musicians of my generation. But in the end...music in timeless...and Clapton is God
This perhaps one of the greatest solo performances I have ever seen on video (from 2004 Crossroads). What is even more special that this song segues into a slow blues song with a great performance from Billy Preston. Also check out "Goin around in circles," with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton. Amazing.
Salut DANI écoute cette version de "I shot the schériff" d'éric CLAPTON, pour moi la meilleure à ce jour. à partir de la 5éme minute il y a le solo, une pure merveille.!!!!!!!! Bonne écoute
McCarthee I keep making GIFs of him cause I legit can't believe the faces this man makes. He looks like he's having so much fun ; they could use it as part of commercials to enrol drummers.
This is a great solo here...but his solo to Sheriff from the Hyde park concert DVD is still my fave. More tastey and the dynamics are better. Ymmv. Enjoy em both!
Sempre vale a pena ouvir Eric Clapton!
Also, lets not forget Nathan East! A monster of a bass player. Too much to get in to here but Google him to discover his many accomplishments. This man is so good, he may have appeared on more recordings (session work) than any other musician alive - no shit.
The best 240p in my life
literally everyone who loves this kind of music ignore the quality of the video and enjoy the sound thats what really matters :D
tenes a clapton descociendo la guitarra durante 8 minutos B: da igual la calidad de video
Underrated comment bro, so true! 😂
This perform is marvelous not only for Clapton. If you all can listen and see what Nathan East, Steve Gad, Doyle Bramhall and all musicians do, you'll see that is the perfect combination of a band.
raulnieblas great
raulnieblas teach bro . That’s what am talking about
This solo is amazing
Steve Gadd, possibly one of the best drummers still alive. Saw him with Al DiMeola about 36 years ago and have been a huge fan ever since...
Eric Clapton recorded this in 1974. His version was a #1 hit in the US, the only #1 of his career. Clapton's recording gave Marley a big boost, as it exposed him to a rock audience.
thank you Eric
Las vibraciones que transmite ese sólo de guitarra seguido del acompañamiento de semejante banda. Un lujo de galaxias
Even though Clapton is not my favorite guitarist, he's the best.
who's your favourite?
Clapton is one of the all time great Guitarists
Intuition and rhythm in a perfect combination
We Salute...
Wow, when Clapton gets in the groove he is a guitar god!
Man he played it perfect here I'm speechless the best solo I've ever heard

I love love love this performance the universe and musicans were aligned and the best ever came out ❤ Forever Fan ♥
This clip shows JUST how good Eric is when he really feels like playing. A living legend.

hahah there are many better than this :v , but it's my favorite perfomance of the song

The best guitar player of all time in my opinion
And Jimi Hendrix?
Hendrix and Benson are better.
Not. Jimi Hendrix.
Who is Benson?
Is this seriously wearing shorts and shredding. Absolute legend!!
That guy plays better now than when he was younger, and he played pretty n-i-c-e when he first started out. What great chops.
Dude ,this man is so fantastic,i think nobody can be better than him

I saw this when I was 16 and it changed the course of my life.
Eric Clapton is a master to the nth degree. Long live Eric Clapton.
***** No sir, David Gilmour is God, Clapton is his right hand.
+christopher cody HAhaha you didnt get any thumps up for your comment.

-- Eric Clapton--- I Shot The Sheriff----
The only thing I could I think or say after watching this video is "F**KING AMAZING!!!"
Lead is amazing but the minimalist bass is incredible -- and drum counter punch works perfectly. Every note counts and not too much. That's how it's done all you bass players out there!

His great master piece of work in rock performance forever. My auspicious master is always in my mind. Gopal, guitarist, South India, 641014.
tell me, why this solo isnt on the 100 best solos list?
Unfair to the others, I suppose.
maybe because it is in a live album. Either way, it will be unfair.
Best Performing, Best Audio
