Drummer was just clearly amazed how this solo feels in live performance and you get to play along with it. What more can you ask for if you re the drummer? Its once in a lifetime you get to play along with this kind of musician.
I love that the drummer absolutely cannot stop smiling. He knows exactly what it means to be playing this song. Words cannot describe what we are listening to here.

That's it. That's the pinnacle. The drummer knows it. The defining moment of music evolution. Much as I play guitar I will never attempt to learn this, but will just appreciate it for the miracle that it is.
the best solo of all time, soulfully, innovative, technically perfect and advanced for its time, catchy, and absolutely perfectly played as part of a timeless classic song with unreal lyrics.

All computer done, nowadays. Just like all the choreography in fireworks displays. I’m absolutely not pining for the old days of concerts in the least .. the swaying lighters .. the lighting up of joints you pass on down the line .. followed by the fifth of Jack Daniels .. those were the days 50 years ago lol
Dude...Gilmore. The most beautiful lyrical solos in the history of rock, not to mention incredible vocal talent. He's 78 now. It's a shame that all that talent will one day just vanish.
Yes living the dream, can you imagine? The problem is there would be nothing in this life thereafter that could compare to that moment. I wish I had know about this concert before hand, I would have been there. Wish they would do it again, but probably not. I stood in that place 40 years ago, what a perfect environment for that masterful music! Thankfully this music will live on forever in recordings.
I suffer from mental illness and a lot of the time it’s hard to know what i actually am feeling. The guitar solo in this song has made me feel more than any lyric, person or activity ever. Although there are no words, the emotions scream loud and clear and I hear everything they have to say. A beautiful thing.
Beautiful words Koben. And I hear YOU loud and clear my friend. XxxX I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes words fail to communicate and music does it way better. I hope you are OK buddy. This work of Floyd will "out-cool" any song in the future, no doubt about it!!!! ......in my humble opinion!
For a moment there I had a vision of all past gladiators, athletes etc. swaying to this epic song.
Most definitely
Die, die dabei waren, wussten damals noch nicht, das sie dabei waren. Was würde man heute dafür geben, dabei gewesen zu sein ❤😮😊
That second solo is the music of the center of the universe.
Awesome
What? I thought it was Gangnam Style.....

What we are seeing and hearing is a man's soul flowing through wood and steel...
A couple other versions, where at the end Gilmour makes that Strat absolutely scream with anguish and despair is like nothing I have ever come out of a guitar before. A guitar player poster on one of these vids said that he didn't even know what the sound was...he had zero idea how that sound was made on guitar.
Name them, Page, Clapton, Van Halen, whomever, for my money while all those top players are phenomenal players, Gilmour is transcendent. SO much raw emotion in this song. IMHO no one comes close.
@@jamespobog3420 anytime I listen to a really good guitar solo and I mean a really good one it just feels like im seeing into the eye of the universe in a way. Its very few dong that have made me almost cry because of all of the emotion being put through the instrument in a such a raw and visceral way. Maggot brain, weight of love and comfortably numb are those songs.
@@Naizhenghad Yep, know what you mean. There are actually a few songs that to me are borderline unbearable. Boys of Summer. Travelin' Soldier (Dixie Chicks...not a fan of them tho). The Flame (Cheap Trick). Ain't Missing You (John Waite)... et al. All extremely painful, yet they are all great songs...
Guitars wish they get a David Gilmore for Christmas

I vote this one as best comment.

Simply the best solo in the history of humanity.
Agreed. It encompasses all of his blues roots along with all of his own, unique voice and skills.
History of rock, perhaps, but there's Pat Metheny in jazz-rock, and Mike Stern, did you hear about that guy?
Absolutely agree 👍
Hmmm! Debatable. Far too many to compare with. Gary Moore played a few.

The drummer is smiling, happy to just be in the background in the middle of the best rock and roll solo ever performed.
That's right!
Smiling is putting it mildly. You can almost read him thinking - "This is really happening and I'm really here doing this! Fckng WOW!"
who wouldn't? it will almost be offensive if any musician hired for one or some tours with either Gilmore or waters, act like if it was just another day in the office like a lot do pretending to be way cooler than the fact that they are there with them
Humble man too, check out the grand tour Nick Mason is on that

I’m 65 years old. I just came to love Pink Floyd about 5 years ago. I saw David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl last night. So awesome! His encore was Comfortably Numb. It brought the house down! ❤
It is impossible not being moved by this guitar solo. No matter how many times I hear it.
HundredS of times..hundreds, maybe thousands. and I weep every time.
You are so right it always moves me
It just takes you to another place everytime you hear it
An average blues soloing to me. But still good enough for a late 60s band.
Absolutely! I get chills every time. The solos cry out to me.
That drummer is the happiest person in the whole concert hall.
lol no kidding, he's having the time of his life. I'm guessing this is his favourite song
btw - actually, it's not a concert hall, it's the Amphitheatre of Pompeii... ;-)
I would definitely feel like I'm at the height of my life playing with david gilmour one of my favorite songs
Lucky guy...
I still would have preferred the original drummer Nick Mason - his laid back style was soo cool
David Gilmore was 75 years old yesterday March 6, 2021. Which means he was about 70 when this was recorded. We are so lucky to share the earth with this man. And despite everything...thanks to Roger for the words.
I agree,I love all of there music ❤️❤️

he's also a family man so his time is even more precious

117 billion people have ever lived on Earth - and we are fortunate enough to be alive during this time to witness David Gilmour. 🎸
The look on the drummers face is the perfect reaction... imagine witnessing that solo!!!
I know it was a incredible when he took off his headphones just because he wanted to hear David solo
I'm talking about another video where Pink Floyd played for the last time together Nick Mason takes his headphones off so he can hear
It must be the first time this drummer heard It
I don't know maybe he just gets amazed every time
Drummer was just clearly amazed how this solo feels in live performance and you get to play along with it. What more can you ask for if you re the drummer? Its once in a lifetime you get to play along with this kind of musician.
There so many wonderful guitar solos in the world. Only this one makes me wanna cry.
Phil Y This actually DID make me cry a bit.

Lil waynes solo makes me wanna cry, but for a different reason..
Can’t listen to it without crying. Australia one more time, pleassseee.

I love that the drummer absolutely cannot stop smiling. He knows exactly what it means to be playing this song. Words cannot describe what we are listening to here.
Flying high on CID perhaps?

I'd be honored if David Gilmour fans would take a listen to my piano & vocal performances of WISH YOU WERE HERE and SLIT SKIRTS by Pete Townshend on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of lyricism and composition. Done live with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
That's it. That's the pinnacle. The drummer knows it. The defining moment of music evolution. Much as I play guitar I will never attempt to learn this, but will just appreciate it for the miracle that it is.

I watched this on acid and it was an absolute sensory overload. I could smell all the colors of smoke during the chorus. A bit scary but very cool
All computer done, nowadays. Just like all the choreography in fireworks displays.
