My old love is fighting for his life after a traffic accident. He is in a coma. 461 ocean boulevard was .. our album. You are always in my heart Gerry. I m sending you all my love.
Funny story years ago I was picking up my daughter Kennedy at the daycare. One of the ladies asked me if I like Eric Clapton’s music and I answered yes, then asked her how she knew. She said the babies were about to go to sleep and the song Layla came on . My daughter jumped up and said ‘ that’s daddy’s song by Eric Slow Hand ‘..lol. She was like 27 months old and I was so proud.
That keyboard solo really encapsulates the feeling of a broken love. The panging, raw and confused emotions of a relationship gone too soon. Mixed and odd, unfamiliar before building into a brilliant and defiant flame, angered even that one had not seen old love as an opportunity to move on. I'm 22 but wish I'd found this golden music earlier
Definitely one of the best songs ever written, IMO. I loved learning it from the unplugged performance; every other version is equally beautiful. We wrote another verse to extend the tune after the first solo - nothing detracting just substituted “I can see your face” for “I can hear your voice”. The song was always over too soon for us (me, lol) otherwise. Mr. C, we play a lot of your songs (I insist when they make me - the drummer - sing). We often play the ending of the original Layla to end the night (we’re just a three piece and do it with just keys, bass and drums). You should come to the Dusk til Dawn Blues Festival at the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in Rentiesville, OK. You’d love it - lots of great blues players and bands from all over the country and the world. Labor Day weekend.
The first 6 minutes of this video is perhaps the finest example of heart tugging guitar coupled with a vocal track that is gut wrenching. It lays bare the hurt and mixed feelings that a love gone wrong can do to a person. You can't go back and fix things. All you can do is try to continue to make one day after another...I think this may be the best playing and singing i've ever heard...
Watch and listen to the live version with Robert Cray and Eric Clapton on Saturday night live it is the best version of this song in my opinion easily found on RUclips
I feel like John Mayer has been watching these Clapton performances. This one is amazing. Blew me away. I've been watching Mayer and he's astounding. Just spectacular. He and Clapton are the best. I miss SRV these guys kind of fill that gap for me. I feel like Mayer is the only modern player that gets blues playing like Clapton and SRV did. His renditions of classic Hendrix songs are so awesome. Mayer and Clapton are the best.
Glad to see people in the comments section complimenting Clapton's vocals. I have always said this to my friends and musician peers for several years - Eric is a very underrated singer. He is no Paul Rodgers or Freddie Mercury, but he sings like he means his lyrics, and he rarely sings out of tune live.
i cant stop watching Eric clapton, i am a blues guitar player, and Eric clapton has alywas been my mentor, and still, and i am from Saudi Arabia, and the culture of the blues is really rare, thats whyi am sad, but i have a plan, i am trying to introduce my community to the blues, so i will be the first one, and who knows, maybe some American companies could invest this music here. but if i make this come true. i will be proud of my self. please pray for me

Just discovered this, through a reaction video of all things. My gosh, this is why I have loved Eric Clapton since I first heard him when I was 17 in 1970. The feeling in this solo is spell binding. His solos are always so melodic and he is able to wring true beauty out of that guitar. Clapton will always be my first choice of guitar players to listen to.
Tim Carmon is great and you can tell Eric appreciates his talent too. Eric is great and he picks great people to play with him. As I've said before I'm 72 and Eric Clapton has given me a new reason to live. He's still going at my age and doing a great job, too. Just love the guy. Randomly met this gorgeous girl and we started talking about music...dug into my Clapton memories went through the list of every thing. Then this beautiful soul took me by the hand isolated us and showed me this version of Old Love...When I say I've never been the same since I mean it, had the best time of my life leading up to that and afterwards. Wake the next morning to never see this girl again and that's when this song hit me...hit me real hard.
It's like the entire band went into the same "zone" on this song….they all felt it to their toes…..as I did listening to this yet again. Incredible music.
As a modern member of the more technical guitar playing community I have to tip my hat to the sheer passion of that solo. Mr Slowhand I bow to your excellence.

Simply the best all around guitar player of all time. GOAT!! Who else plays this clean and clear at almost any kind of music. He does it all with perfection. Get rid of those cheating whammy bars and synthetic static sounding guitar and guitar players all together. Just give me the sound of a plain electric guitar. BB King wasn't lying.
I have listened to many versions of this classic Clapton song. This one is still my favorite; gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Thank you Eric for staying true to your music.

its 2021 February 09 ...Was gonna start a new day ...work, coffee, morning smokes.... a very cold morning up north in Toronto and everything changes suddenly I cant believe i have never watched/listened to this immortal magnificence from Sir CLAPTON and Sir CARMON (!) ALL HAILS TO THE KIINGS ... my guitar bows to these two legends Thanks for making me feel alive.
In Clapton's solo Gadd (drummer) is so intense!!! omfg, when he does his thing on the snare drum at 6:50 I jumped outa my seat. These guys completely immerse themselves into the music and drag you with them.
"Every drummer wants to play like Gadd because he plays perfect.... He has brought orchestral and compositional thinking to the drum kit while at the same time having a great imagination and a great ability to swing." - Chick Corea
agreed. I have heard on good authority Eric just sends the music to Steve and he simply rocks up and blows Eric away, every time. he's up there with the best, along with the likes of Jeff Porcaro - both of which are session players for Steely Dan. It doesn't take a magician to realise why. Gadd remains my favourite though, there is just something special about him.
This is why I love drummers like Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro or the ever-underrated Ringo Starr - they play for the music, not to show off how fast or complex their drumming is.
This version and unplugged version are equal just very different feel and players. That is whats amazing about Clapton. He reinvents his own songs.......
As an old drummer, seen Eric 7 times; his talent is extraordinary, but what's really impressive, he doesn't take a song "off," He gives it everything he has...this is a perfect indication of that... kudos to the band..Steve, as always...in addition, Eric plays the right note at the right time...haunting & beautiful...
Ive watch this over 40 times in recent years .... STILL can feel the CHILL up and down my spine .... AMAZING talents ..... ALL of them ... Especially Tim Carmen on Keyboards
I’m 59, I’ve been listening to him since his Cream Days. I lost the love of my life. My wife 6 years ago. The words of this song for me. Express what I’ve gone through, and my utter frustration. His voice the tight tight band. And when is the last time you saw a man getting a standing ovation in the middle of his solo. Then Tim Common just kills that electric piano. Ty Eric 😎✌️❤️
See Eric Clapton showed his guitar skills and experience when he Captured the INSPIRATION going smoothly with the lyrics. And he's really SUPERB when the Scaling went beyond the guitar bar where no others guitarist can do it.
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.

"Old Love"
I can feel your body
When I'm lying in bed
There's too much confusion
Going around through my head
And it makes me so angry
To know that the flame still burns
Why can't I get over?
When will I ever learn?
[Chorus:]
Old love, leave me alone
Old love, go on home
I can see your face
But I know that it's not real
It's just an illusion
Caused by how I used to feel
And it makes me so angry
To know that the flame will always burn
I'll never get over
I know now that I'll never learn

I cant believe i have never watched/listened to this immortal magnificence from Sir CLAPTON and Sir CARMON (!)
ALL HAILS TO THE KIINGS ... my guitar bows to these two legends
Thanks for making me feel alive.
There is just something about this that makes the hairs on the back on my neck stand on end. Beautiful.
Best guitar solo ever 🔥
Yes absolutely, also his voice. AMAZING ❤️
This version of 'Old Love' is his absolute best performance of it. I could listen to it over and over again... and I often do😍🙏💕
Yeah I love it Old love is the best dear.. I love your smile dear how are you doing today hope you are doing fine ?
I'm doing great, thank you 😊
@@mjc4687 Is my pleasure to meet you here dear. I’m Larry I would love to be a humble friend of yours if you don’t mind?
@@mjc4687 where are you from dear ? I’m Larry from Texas USA 🇺🇸
EC is one of my top three guitarists that our planet has ever produced.
The other two are Carlos Santana and Jeff Beck.
@Andy Butler To each his own.
And each of the world’s 7+ billion people would choose a different 3.
In Clapton's solo Gadd (drummer) is so intense!!! omfg, when he does his thing on the snare drum at 6:50 I jumped outa my seat. These guys completely immerse themselves into the music and drag you with them.
+Juan P the one and only!!!!!!what a a Pro!!!!!
Couldn't agree more!!! I love how the WHOLE band is so into their love for the music! You can see it in their eyes. It's truly amazing!
Love never leave us old or young. Beautiful ❤
I feel with or without Steve gadd Eric'playing has been much different.
Love Don't cost a thing and I'm giving it all I got
I ask you, how can you not be in love with Eric Clapton?
Not possibile
@@ReddyChannel Ask Phoebe Bridgers..
I'm.
Hello 👋 how are you ?
best years of clapton!!!
Truth. When. Will. I. Learn. Never. Love. Never. Let's. Go. Truly. Can't. Forget. Faith. 💟✝️🛐
Ive watch this over 40 times in recent years .... STILL can feel the CHILL up and down my spine .... AMAZING talents ..... ALL of them ... Especially Tim Carmen on Keyboards
That clean solo at the beginning is the most amazing guitar play I ever heard in my life...
Good to see the keyboard solo has Eric smiling. You never see him smile during a performance.
A true master of music and song. A galactic legend.👽👁
