What’s almost poetic to me is that when we hear Layla first, it’s a chaotic confession of an unspoken love and lust of a young performer with the world at his feet, in many cases played extremely fast, filled with bending and pinch harmonics. As Clapton got older he is now sitting in his chair, and the guitar, even though still playing the same melody - it is now reminiscing the old times, calmly yet playfully, with a little more maturity. Such is the genius of Eric Clapton.
I'm not that old, but to see this old men playing this song when he made music his whole life just gives me a kind of feeling that live is short and you should enjoy it.
He seems to be a very humble and shy person, never trying to catch the light. It's his concert and we see and hear the rest of his team more than him. He's just nicely offering a good time to his attendees and it looks like that's all that makes him happy. I remember that he appeared in a Dire Strait concert, maybe serving as a last minute replacement. He constantly stayed behind the other ones. MK had to feature him a little bit so that he was visible, otherwise again he was doing his excellent job away in the dark. I have a true respect for people like this. That's definitely what we can call an artist! Only his work counts, not him. Hats down Mr Clapton!

This song is 100% my wife. I lost her a day ago, and even in death, she gave of herself as an organ donor. Three people's lives were saved because of her gracious donations. I will love her forever.
Beautiful is the gift of life she so generously gave on her way to the other side. Eric strums to you both, hopefully reminding you that you will be reunited once again some day. I am very sorry for your loss. Time will bring you some relief from the pain, as your love continues for eternity. 💖❤💙
Yeah, the bloak has balls… self confidence? I mean he wrote the song about one of the Beatles wives? He’s lucky George didn’t pull a Beatles card and have him disappear.
every single time i hear layla, it is played differently by eric clapton... and every time its perfect... how can one man be such a genius (plus the amazing band and backing vocals of course)
Dont know where he found those backup singers - but what a beautiful complement they add.... Beautiful, soft and perfectly delivered. Love this rendition!!! Can't tell one voice from the other and they're both just amazing. Thank you girls!! Thank you Eric!!
Back in high school/early college when I started writing music my friend had one of those rugs in his room. I hadn't realized until later that those rugs had a shared love from many musicians, but it wasn't too surprising. There's something magical about those rugs.
Funny how bass is the most underrated instrument by noobs, yet without doubt the most crucial part of any song! beat is the back bone, bass is the body, everything else is clothing..
I met him at the National Concert Hall: he is a fantastic artist and he granted me of his autograph on my Opus3 recording !!! An incredible human being ! I have many recordings of Eric, love his music.
Songs of his fill my heart with this weird joy\sorrow feeling. My husband who passed in 2015 at age 36 and I used to go on long road trips listening to all his cds in the car and belting it out. The unplugged layla was his fave, and I do believe if he had lived long enough to hear this version he would have freakin loved in. My heart hurts in the best way right now. I hope someday I get to go to a concert of our favorite artist. Feckin beautiful!

You all can debate, but this is the best acoustic performance of Layla! The intro is melodic and phenomenal, seems like it existed but was only an improvisation!
At this point the youtube mix algorithm has figured out that I almost never skip this when it autoplays, so I hear it sometimes multiple times a day. I'm not complaining :D I love this song.

I listened to all of the Chicago songs from my brothers record collection. I heard this song by the handsome Terry Kath and fell in love with it. I played it over and over and danced alone and listened to it over and over. What a masterpiece. Even today it takes me back to a carefree time with great music from a master.
That's nice, but Skydog had more to do with the guitar in Layla than Eric. Duane Allman played 2 out of 3 guitars. Created the infamous riff, and at 2:18 you hear Skydog's outrageous slide SOLO laid on top of a track of them both I am a Clapton fan, but as a die-hard ABB fan, on this song I take exception
As Oscar Wilde once said: There are 2 tragedies in life: "one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it". Never truer for Eric and the song he wrote about George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd. One translation for the meaning of Layla is "intoxication" which was quite true about Eric at the time he wrote it. I just so admire Eric Clapton - his music, his unrivalled (for me) guitar playing but just as importantly his victory over the demons of drug and alcohol addiction. You're my man, Eric.
I thought "Wonderful tonight" was the one inspired by Pattie Boyd. Good to know that Layla too. He was quite a man in his youth and he still is. Although not the man you would want to be around if you had a beautiful wife. :P
Greg you're so right I admire him as you from the depths of my heart I can listen 500 times "layla" I always have chills to listen to his extraordinary guitar game for me is a person and an extraordinary guitarist Every day he gives me energy in everything I do and pushes me to continue playing the guitar that listens Clearly I love it from the depths of my soul Thank you very much Eric

So sorry for your lost, words have no meanings, hope time will heal your wounds !!!

The tone of this recording is ridiculously good. The feel and spatial quality, audience presence and staging. . . You're there.
Really good recording
I love this song and I think Eric Clapton is the best guitarist ever.
Me, 27 years old, listening to this a lot of times during my learning sessions. LOVE.
Insane self-confidence and comfort in delivering his music. He must feel very safe and home on stage.
He is Music
Yeah, the bloak has balls… self confidence? I mean he wrote the song about one of the Beatles wives?
He’s lucky George didn’t pull a Beatles card and have him disappear.
Well, he's been going there for 40 years. :)
He owns the guitar!
He's bin threw the mill though

The song became age-appropriate. Undoubtedly one of the best guitarists in history. And this song was and remains legendary. It sounds great.

Absolutely agree, they have amazing voices that mixes together great, and with Eric on top, its mezmerizing
This is by far one of the best versions of this song. So beautiful
Back in high school/early college when I started writing music my friend had one of those rugs in his room. I hadn't realized until later that those rugs had a shared love from many musicians, but it wasn't too surprising. There's something magical about those rugs.

Layla is written about a woman married to his close friend, a member of the Beatles, George Harrison... but he’s an incredible musician.
Although he will eventually, his name will never!
The way he knows his way around that guitar is amazing, it's like it's part of his body. Perfect performance absolutely sublime.
I met him at the National Concert Hall: he is a fantastic artist and he granted me of his autograph on my Opus3 recording !!! An incredible human being ! I have many recordings of Eric, love his music.
Very special coming from a class act👏
Songs of his fill my heart with this weird joy\sorrow feeling. My husband who passed in 2015 at age 36 and I used to go on long road trips listening to all his cds in the car and belting it out. The unplugged layla was his fave, and I do believe if he had lived long enough to hear this version he would have freakin loved in. My heart hurts in the best way right now. I hope someday I get to go to a concert of our favorite artist. Feckin beautiful!
The unplugged version of Layla is quite possibly one of the best songs sung 🦁♥️ your husband was a man of great taste

You all can debate, but this is the best acoustic performance of Layla! The intro is melodic and phenomenal, seems like it existed but was only an improvisation!
It's so cool to hear this song in such a laid back groove. Add that to the fact it's a live performance and it makes it all the more impressive
Its crazy how many people come back to this everyday... this song is masterpiece!

I L-O-V-E every single Clapton version of this song. Perfect.
That's nice, but Skydog had more to do with the guitar in Layla than Eric. Duane Allman played 2 out of 3 guitars. Created the infamous riff, and at 2:18 you hear Skydog's outrageous slide SOLO laid on top of a track of them both
