Surprising to see Eric, at his age, pull off that falsetto without missing a note. And without autotune, which is more than can be said of 95% of today's "stars".
That's not Eric singing falsetto; that would be Nathan East, his long-time bassist. He hit some notes there that not even the backup singers would attempt, haha. Anyway, if you listen with headphones, you can barely hear Eric singing the lower part at times. Overall, they did a nice job with this cover.
I'll give him that! But his playing during the verses was abominable and lacked any soul at all. Just banging away at the chords like they owed him money. Only Prince could truly "feel" this song.

Yes it has soul and depth, and it lacked all that with Clapton, good as he is. If you want to see real emotion in it, watch prince. Some songs are personal, you can't cover them without losing a lot.

Prince is literally seen as one of the most important guitarists of all time in the industry. Clapton himself said you need to ask Prince when a journalist asked who was the best guitarist of all time.

I seriously doubt it. Prince didn't let anyone touch his material, even live, without a fight. But the fact that this is a tribute to his life does make it okay. And it's great.

Still can’t believe this came out 40 years ago and Prince isn’t here to celebrate! Still remember getting the pre-recorded tape when the album hit, hearing Let’s Go Crazy, and getting hooked into the whole sound ever since.
I saw Clapton's concert last November and it was one of those life achievements that you carry until your last moments. Sad that so many icons have passed away or got retired, and I've missed my chance. That's life.
I was a master gardener for Prince I would hear him play his concert grand piano and his guitars alot because He would have his guitars and paino hooked up to a monster of a amplifier. His music was so much more than his recorded songs because He liked to play around with a song and add more when He was in the mood, I totally mis him, I never met him, but, He was the most honest and giving person, Thanks for sharing this video of Eric Clapton,

It’s a big part of my youth - not only bc of Prince and this song, but SO much more music, AND the good ‘ole days’ of a 🌟 time period of life in general. Really? Eric is nowhere near what he was with Cream. Eric was a better player than prince ever was. Prince was a terrific showman and entertainer. But as a player instrumentalist prince was no where near Clapton in the 60s.

The easiest thing in the world is to sing in a falsetto voice... The real challenge is being able to sing in tune in your full voice.
