When Prince, Morris and a lot of us first started out back in the 70s, Prince told me that he was the greatest guitar player alive. I laughed and told him he was insane. Over the years, he made me eat those words again and again. Prince was not only the greatest guitar player alive... he was the greatest, most accomplished musician that ever existed. No one could do what he did on so many instruments to the level he did it, then write, arrange and compose to the level he did.
While my personal idol and choice for greatest musical icon will always be James Brown, I have to admit that even The Godfather of Soul couldn't do what Prince could. Prince was truly a GOD among men. RIP my friend.

The greatest compliment anyone could give this performance is that prince not only outshines some truly great musicians on this stage, but his solo puts Clapton’s solo in the shade. I can not think of how this can be bettered. A definition of how to both raise the bar and create history.

Not really fair to compare Prince in 2004 to Clapton in 1968. You don't think Prince listened to Cream and Derek and the Dominoes until he could play every lead guitar note? That's what I hear! When Clapton played that solo originally, there were not a handful of guitarists in the world who could have done as well, never mind better. Hell, give Marc Mann kudos for a great cover of what Clapton played, in front of the world, with three R&R HOF members on stage!

Morons will be morons. Why post bullshit like this? Does it make you feel special?
On the day Prince died, a tweet with a quote of praise from Eric Clapton went viral. But although Clapton was a Prince fan, he never made the statement attributed to him.
On April 21, 2016, British radio host Stig Abell tweeted, "Eric Clapton was asked about how it felt to be the world's best guitarist. His response: 'I don't know. Ask Prince.'" The comment was liked more than 14,600 times and retweeted by more than 12,700 people.
Snopes has investigated the matter, and has determined it to be false. Apparently it's a variation of a similarly false quote attributed to Jimi Hendrix about both Irish blues musician Rory Gallagher and Christian guitarist Phil Keaggy.
Clapton spoke much more personally about Prince two days after his passing. "I'm so sad about the death of Prince," he wrote on Facebook. "He was a true genius, and a huge inspiration for me, in a very real way. In the the '80s, I was out on the road in a massive downward spiral with drink and drugs. I saw Purple Rain in a cinema in Canada, I had no idea who he was, it was like a bolt of lightning! In the middle of my depression, and the dreadful state of the music culture at that time it gave me hope, he was like a light in the darkness."
He continued: "I went back to my hotel, and surrounded by empty beer cans, wrote 'Holy Mother.' I can't believe he's gone."

She said she would have her Capital Works Department design, build and install them around town, to improve behaviour at all of Victoria's intersections. Sacramento, Olympia and Salem Capital Works Departments were asked to assist in Victoria's design, by me. There were deeply impressed. Actually I didn't talk to the head of Salem's department. Traffic sign cameras can also ticket automatically if the community does not obey traffic laws at schools. Family support of safety is a fundamental right of all children, The World Health Organization Road Safety Office wants action - with one million dead every year from traffic fatalities. For example, The public loves to wear dark clothes at night and get terror from motorists that don't see them on moonless rainy nights, from only 6 feet away. Prince was a musical genius, a master of his art,
He could play the guitar like it was an extension of his heart,
With every strum and every note, he'd make us feel,
His music was a gift, one that was real.
He'd play "Purple Rain" and we'd feel the emotion,
His voice, a powerful wave, a sonic devotion,
And when he'd sing "Kiss," it was pure magic,
We'd move to the beat, our feet, completely tragic.
His energy was contagious, his charisma was rare,
He'd have us all jumping, dancing, without a care,
And as he played "1999," we knew we were in for a treat,
All the while, my guitar gently weeps.
In his hands, the guitar was a work of art,
A tool for his expression, a world set apart,
His fingers moved with grace, with every chord,
His music, a testament, to the power of the Lord.
And now, as we remember his legacy,
We see the mark he's left, his music, a guarantee,
That his soul still lives on, in the music he keeps,
Forever playing, my guitar gently weeps.

Jeff Lynne has to be one best kept secrets of Rock. Not diminishing his accomplishments, just that many of them have gone largely unnoticed. I didn't really become aware of him until the Wilburys, and then I later find out he was working with the Beatles on Free as a Bird. It's crazy. Dude is awesome.

You are not alone: the following excerpt from Wikipedia may explain why many (me included) feel this way. According to music journalist Simon Price, ELO was
"arguably the most uncool, even defiantly anti-cool, of the lot and have been the slowest to be rehabilitated since ... "

Whenever I see Prince's guitar work I always think back to his early years when he taught himself to play many instruments and playing all the instruments on his first album. What a raw talent he was. We lost a true music genius who left way too soon.

Right? I wonder what it was like for Tom, Jeff and Dhani to watch Prince arrive from the planet Purple and blow everyone's everything away. Then he just walks to one side like he's a regular human. As if he didn't just have a whole dude waiting just to support his weight as leaned back off the front of the stage to shred. If that was Baller enough then he raps up by launching his guitar up and gone as the final note (chord?) is played. Unreal!!

@@erichinton5774 because he did. Prince had a falling out with the producers about the direction of this song. They cut his solo and tried to eliminate him from the show entirely. That's why the camera never showed him and he didn't have a spotlight. He wasn't supposed to have a solo at all. He talked about it with Dhani before and Dhani gave him the green light to tear it up. He was the only one that knew it was coming. That's really what makes this performance by Prince so legendary. Straight up gangster.
