Used the techniques on this video and managed to get a 29/30 for the poetry essay on my most recent mocks. Including a quotation from an external source is probably one of the most important aspects to remember, the examiner will love it and go into your answer with a positive bias
Great to know it was helpful

Hi Mr Salles,
I love reading your guides and detailed analysis - I was hoping that you would create a Love and Relationships poetry guide as it would be helpful for myself among others doing their GCSEs!
Thank you so much for keeping me at a very high grade in Language and Literature and keep up the good work!!!!

I looked at the june 2020 mark scheme and it appears that at the top band it doesnt say form and language and structure anymore, it just says fine grained and insightful analysis of methods.
yeahhh on the 2022 sample paper mark scheme too it also doesn’t mention structure and form should I still write about it?
@@horizon6539 definitely write about it

Hi Mr salles
I was wondering if you can make a video based on possible questions for AIC and R+J. That would be very helpful for people doing their GCSEs. Thank you

Although both 'Tissue' by Imtiaz Dharker and 'Ozymandias' by Percy Bysshe Shelley explore how power should be exercised in different ways, Dharker focuses on the importance of what holds greatest value in life - love, humanity and people, which are not found in modern consumerist societies, where the livelihoods of people are dominated by capitalism and wealth, in contrast to Shelley, who more directly warns that power should be exercised with humility, evoked in the striking description of the ruined state of a powerful figure from the past - Ramases II. While Dharker perhaps critiques the power of religious institutions and contemporary systems of government, Shelley offers a more implicit warning to powerful leaders of the present, showing that power is transcient.

Hi Sir, do you think it’s ok to write on a spare sheet of paper during the exam? I always run out of space in the booklet given but my teachers have said that the invigilators might lose my sheet or that the examiner might not read the spare sheet.
It's fine but its risky. Both of those things are likely.

can you do unseen poetry
what is form?
please can someone explain in simple terms what the difference is between form and structure?
Structure creates form. structural techniques all add up to a type of form so eg: poems with the structure of five tercets + one quatrain make up the form of a Villanelle poem
Morning Mr Salles, can i ask which is better? : to lead each paragraph with ideas or with quotations. For example,
"both poems criticise the government" or "both poems use a semantic field of ..." . Thanks.
its probably best to start with your point, use quote as evidence and then explain
Ideas mate
could you elaborate what you mean by form and structure, because i have structure as in, i dont use peel its kind of my own structure ive made but i know it works because when ive done exam questions my teachers have marked me with 18-26 marks, and well form i just dont get at all
structure = the way each poem is written, eg anything to do with the stanzas
form = includes length of lines, meter, rhythm and rhyme schemes
@@pigeon_371 ohh tysm, so for example, in ozymandias its structured like a sonnet so like he loves himself etc etc.

I have a Kindle Unlimited edition, but Amazon have decided just to sell it on Amazon.com - so you probably have to buy it
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish Yeah no worries, I already purchased it
Hey Mr salles, would this apply to love and relations aswell?
Yes
I am confused coz i didn't compare form and structure .Basically used PSE format ,2 and ½ paragraph and managed a 20 /30in mocks ..Maybe form would let me score more ig ,miss Only told me to include more context, reader, quotes 🤷🏻♀️
Your teacher makes important points… Context is important! Also make sure to use enough quotes to back up your analysis. You don’t rly need a lot of paragraphs to get good grades if you have really good quality and high standard analysis in your answer, but if you’re a less confident student, more paragraphs helps to guarantee a top grade because there so much to get marked on. Hope this helps! :))
I wrote William Blake instead of Wilfred Owen in my exam today when talking about exposure. I probably mention the wrong name 6/7 times. How will this affect my marks?
You’ll lose a max of 1 mark I expect

Firstly you are a legend for all this hard work u go thru to make vids for us✨

@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish OMG THANK U SO MUCH 😭✨✨✨ YOU ARE QUITE LITERALLY THE GOAT
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish mr Salles I've got an of mice and men exam tomorrow any last minute tips?
is it necessary to write 5 pages. Is like 2-3 pages enough
quality>quantity as long as you hit all the assessment objectives for the level you are aiming for it doesn't matter how much you write. on average though grade 9 students write from anywhere between 900-1200 words
Please what is the difference between form and structure
Form is the genre, structure is how it is put together
is this the same adam johnson? 😂
Lol I was thinking
do you not compare the poems in the same paragraph? e.g. structure/form of each poem in just one paragraph?
You can compare anywhere
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish thank you! also for structure/form is it okay to not add quotes or is that something you should definitely do? based on this, is it okay to have 3 comparison paragraphs on just:
1) structure/form
2) sopaims
3) ending
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish Sorry, can I also analyse the poem where it’s not in chronological order?
On a scale of one to ten how certain are you that Checking out Me History will come up after tomorrow?
0 you can never to certain, but if you were to focus revision then COME is definitely a poem you should consider at the top of your list
@@firefn8553 which poems would you say to focus revision on. I know u can’t really say but what ones would u do
@@FSREntertainment The Gruffalo
@@FSREntertainment The most optimum way is the learn 2 poems for each theme. So I would go for COME and The Emigree as my picks for identity, The prelude and Exposure as my nature poems. And War Photographer and Bayonet Charge as my conflict poems. Perhaps at the end I would also go over My last duchess and also Kamikaze should some odd themes appear.
