For anyone watching I would really recommend using the heavy duty landscaping plastic instead of the cloth! It really helps with grass/ weeds breaking through. But I’m excited for the next part, you’re doing a great job!!

Not only does plastic break down faster it also can smother plants and make the landscape pretty warm in the summer. It’s not what you use it’s how you maintain it cause weeds can grow in the driest places.
depends on the amount of rainfall, plastic will float mulch and push sand and gravel out of your beds, from what I can tell this is a dry climate, weeds should be easy to manage.
