Can someone help with a reply that knows what the homeowner should be looking for in terms of a good installation vs. not good. I am new at this and a bit nervous. Thanks.
What we showed in the video is typical for an installation including time for the turf to decompress after being rolled up. We do recommend infill for 2 reasons, to act as ballast to help keep the turf weighed down and to help the blades stand up. If they didn't match the "grain" of the turf so that the blades are all laying in the same direction, the seam will be easier to see. Here's a link to written instructions if you'd like more details. www.challengerturf.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Installing-Your-Turf-FINAL-101.pdf
The landscapers did put down infill and then took a broom to settle it all. As for the seem, can it be a result of slightly overlapping the pieces. I ask this because the "grain" looks ok to me. I am thankful for all your kind help.
It's not a requirement but it can help prevent weeds from forming deep roots making them harder to remove. Be aware that weed seeds will germinate in the infill used in synthetic turf installations. This means that even if you include landscape fabric in your installation, you will still likely see weeds. Thanks for the question!
nice but i wouldn't recommend using nails to hold it down as this turf is usually used for children to play on . I would recommend U pins as they have no sharpness and also they are deeper and harder to pull out than nails . Don't know why most videos are saying use nails . I have actually had to go back to a job to replace with u pins because the nails come out to easy
It mostly comes down to preference. You may find using staples to be more cumbersome as they are more prone to trapping blades under them than nails. Thanks for the question!
The turf was pretty compressed from being rolled up and didn't have enough time in the sun to expand. Going back over it with a power broom after a couple of days helped hide the seam.
Looks great but I still like normal lawns. I guess it could be a good thing for desert areas or for areas that are just beyond dead with barespots and weeds
I'm definitely going to install artificial turf in my front yard I live in colorado it's way too expensive to water the grass I want to create an outer parimiter with roses since they don't need much water and the 2 I bought while expensive have actually lasted every other plant I bought died then I want to cover the parimiter with white rocks and install a low metal fence I'm so excited
+Texas LawnMonster - Thanks for the question! Odor is usually not much of a concern with proper drainage unless you have pets. Using the ZeoFill Pet Infill will help combat odors resulting from pet urine. If for any reason you do have odors in your turf, scrub the affected area using a few drops of dish soap per gallon of water then rinse with water. Do not use other cleansers such as bleach or any item with alcohol as they can damage the turf. Make sure you rinse thoroughly to avoid dulling the blades.
Yes, you can also include a layer of landscape fabric to help prevent weeds. Proper excavation and base preparation (3-6 inches deep depending on soil type/drainage) should limit weed growth on its own. Be aware that weeds can germinate in some infills so installing a weed barrier won't prevent them from popping up. These weeds can easily be pulled since they typically won't be able to root through the turf backing or landscape fabric if you use it. Thanks for the question!

@Ewing Irrigation & Landscape Supply I have a putting green in my backyard that was installed before we bought the house. There are some small areas that have become uneven and even have created pretty decent divots underneath the turf. What would be the best action to take to level these sections back out?
Unfortunately, it will require pulling up the turf to make the repair to the base. It will likely have a base of decomposed granite. Be sure to use a hand tamper or vibratory plate compactor to compact the material before reinstalling the turf. Also be careful that you do not have any large rocks that might negatively effect the roll. Thanks for watching!
+Samuel Levine - The manufacturer doesn't list a specific temperature for installation. The idea is to have the turf as pliable as possible to achieve the best results. This is from the installation guide: "Your synthetic grass has been tightly wrapped and sealed. This eliminates damage that can occur during shipping. @@ewingoutdoorsupply thanks a lot! However, would it cause any bad odor if pets urinate on it (we don’t have dogs, but are concerned if wild animals urinate on it, is it something to be concerned?). Thanks

Would it be preferable to use 6" U shaped garden staples instead of nails if you have them? Also, is there any problem with using regular sand for infill?
Both spikes and u-pins are acceptable. You should not use masonry sand as infill. The sharp edges can damage the fibers of the turf. Thanks for watching!
I need to peel back the edge of my turf a couple of feet to reinstall a main water line for a new drip system in the back. Any special procedures or issues I should consider before removing the nails and pulling the turf back?
Yes, but it depends on the chip size and site conditions. Sometimes a different sub-base material will be more beneficial depending on the conditions of the site. If you do a google search on the subject you should find some good information to help you make your decision. Thanks for watching!
Outside of the base material discussed in the video, you can use a weed barrier or even gopher wire if you have a concern about burrowing animals. Thanks for watching!

Hello Jose. It's important not to install in cold temperatures. The turf should be rolled out completely flat in the sun for several hours prior to installation. Not following this advice can lead to wrinkles in your green as a result of expansion after the turf has been secured to the base material. Thanks for the question!
I install turf everyday as it’s my job here in Ontario Canada, if it’s over 30 degrees Celsius you can’t even have your knees on the turf, the heat goes through your pants and burns your knees within seconds, this is probably the only con of turf, we do lots of playgrounds and schools which is weird because there’s no way kids can play on this without getting injured
For a football field shall I do same procedures?? Or else do i need to do concrete?? In fact when it’s nailed in the sand does it come out from field when people play?? If we are applying on the sand does it stick on the field ??
While similar to installing residential synthetic turf, the process is a little more complicated in a sports field application. This link should provide some of the information you are looking for: www.sportsbuilders.org/fields/buyersguide.cfm. Thanks for watching!
In general the turf should be okay to use around trees but it will depend on your situation. First, you'll need to have an adequate base to secure the turf to. The roots you describe might prevent this without adding soil and creating a suitable grade. Also, be aware that synthetic turf can get very hot and some trees suited for colder climates might not do well. You may be better off creating a circle of mulch directly around the tree and then run your turf up to that point. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project!
We have greyhound dogs and they love to play and run. Is this a good product product for my situation? Also can it be used on a slight down slop of the yard? thx
Thanks for the question Geff! Yes, there's an EPS turf product designed for dogs and using it on a slope is acceptable when installed properly. Be aware that the product can get hot in the summer so you may need to cool it down with water before letting the pups out to play. The EPS turf we carry at Ewing comes with a 10 year limited warranty. This includes UV stability. Here's a link to the warranty if you would like to see the details: epsturf.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/EPS-Warranty-10yr-2-2.pdf Yes, you can use this product in a wooded area as long as you have a good base. What if installing artificial turf on a slope, 1 meter slope over 25 meter span, if I put infill - fine sand on top of the turf will the sand not run off during heavy rains? if so, what is the solution to installing turf on slopes? thank you for the video
Yes, you can install it on a slope. You still use infill to help weigh it down and to stand the blades up. You may lose infill in heavy rains and have to replace it over time. A timber "frame" it commonly used to anchor the turf down to keep it from sliding. Thanks for watching!

Tu Muy Bien That is infill. It helps the blades stand up, provides extra cushioning and can help keep the synthetic turf cooler. We currently offer Emerald Fill, a green ceramic coated sand infill, that is smoother and easier to keep clean than plain silica sand.

Not following this advice can lead to wrinkles in your green as a result of expansion after the turf has been secured to the base material. Thanks for the question!
Good video but you might mention turf gets HOT during the summer especially here in socal
Patriot1 I install it in West Texas and that is a definitely truth. It gets mad hot.
Thanks for watching!
very nice video thanks you very much
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Great video! Thank you! Do you have any advice for glue that seeped through and clumped some of the turf together. Would Goo gone be a good option?
Thanks for watching Nikoo! Sorry, we don't know of a solvent that will help remove the glue.
I want to do a space with an Approx 12" rise around a tree with some roots above grade as well. Is there a certain technique I should use?
In general the turf should be okay to use around trees but it will depend on your situation. First, you'll need to have an adequate base to secure the turf to. The roots you describe might prevent this without adding soil and creating a suitable grade. Also, be aware that synthetic turf can get very hot and some trees suited for colder climates might not do well. You may be better off creating a circle of mulch directly around the tree and then run your turf up to that point. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project!

How to seam artificial grass if they are cut across the stitches?
We have greyhound dogs and they love to play and run. Is this a good product product for my situation? Also can it be used on a slight down slop of the yard? thx
Thanks for the question Geff! Yes, there's an EPS turf product designed for dogs and using it on a slope is acceptable when installed properly. Be aware that the product can get hot in the summer so you may need to cool it down with water before letting the pups out to play. Here are links to the product page as well as updated installation instructions:

Does this fade in sunlight? Can you use this in a heavily wooded area?
The EPS turf we carry at Ewing comes with a 10 year limited warranty. This includes UV stability. Keep in mind that installing synthetic turf next to highly reflective surfaces (such as windows) can decrease the lifespan of the product. Here's a link to the warranty if you would like to see the details:

Yes, you can use this product in a wooded area as long as you have a good base. Thanks for watching!
@@ewingoutdoorsupply Thank you
How long does it last? What will it look like in 30 or 40 years?
EPS Turf has a 10-year limited warranty. Here's a link to the details:

Why did not you use weed barrier membrane?? Please suggest if it is optional
What is the sand that I have to use it , any recommendation?

What is the sprinkler for to water the synthetic grass?
Sprinklers can be used to rinse or cool off the turf. Thanks for the question!
for a putting green, if you add a 18" fringe, what goes down first fringe or putting surface?
Typically the putting surface is laid out first. Here's an installation guide with more details:

7:15 what is that like dust for ? What's it function ?
Tu Muy Bien That is infill. It helps the blades stand up, provides extra cushioning and can help keep the synthetic turf cooler. We currently offer Emerald Fill, a green ceramic coated sand infill, that is smoother and easier to keep clean than plain silica sand.
What do you have for permeability?
Awesome!
Thanks!
