Wow that is one of the best lawns I have ever seen laid. Do you carry out actual installations of lawns please. I have a very small lawn that needs doing. It is about 10 square meters. I am too old to do it any more Thanks
As a fitter, I tend to lean away from kiln dry sand.. birds can excrete on top of the grass with sand in and cause seed germination. For me, sharp sand days are over now.. too much movement over time. 20mm to dust hard-core and 6mm granno dust 👍
Looks really nice. Don't you guys use carpet stretchers to stretch and flatten out grass so there aren't any loose areas? Most videos of guys doing fake turf I've seen stretch the lawn out and nail down with spikes. Thanks for the instructive video!
I used to landscape and artificial turf was becoming popular and its nice to see the new tools you can buy or hire to make life easier when laying! Later, I had it laid in our own garden and never regretted it; looked perfect and I’m sure was a major selling factor when we sold our house. I’m designing our new garden, gets sun, but we have an area where it only gets late sun, so we are going to lay artificial turf to replace the grass, as the grass is sparse there. I’ve treated it, but doesn’t look much. Anyway, thanks very much for all the hints and tips, and generally sharing your skills! All the best.
How you cover the steps of installing to the T you made it look like a Diy so that and handy man can lay turf. I would to be able to put this on my web site if that's thanks ok.
Looks good i'm only looking to buy one roll of astroturf to use as a border around a small pond i'm building in the back garden. They have some turf that have all these brown bits and a nice pale green color which makes it look like natural grass at the range by me so i'll get that. I was wondering did you ever find out why the client didn't want it all pinned down?
Hi Guys, can you please put down the steps for the layers? 1. Sub base? What is best sub base? 2. Dust? Which one you recommend? 3. weed membrane? 4. Turf
Mate looking a drop of advice; moved into a new build and the backyard is dirt along with loads of stones and bricks and other rubble. Just recently cleared the weeds out. Would love to put fake grass down. Can you advise on what my next steps should be?

Looks great, takes a lot more preparation work than I thought. Doesn’t it need to be fixed down tight or it seems it would just be like a big rug and able to move?
Hi Roddy Pryce, It is worth pinning the edges down, however providing that you apply enough sand, it shouldn't move at all. Hope this helps. All the best, John 😊
NO one will have to mow it or pay for landscaping company to maintain, no weeds, no worries about it looking brown in the hot of summer, and its last for 10 years, just broom it once in a while and add some sand to make sure the grass is straight up and not laying down.
Hi Richard, The measurement depends on the thickness of the grass. We set them so the blades of grass were around 10mm higher than the edging sets, so you wouldn't stub your toes. Hope this helps? All the best, John 😊
Hi I’ve recently laid artificial grass in my back garden. I laid and wackered mot type 1 and then began to add sharp sand and realised I didn’t have enough to finish the area. I wanted to complete it that day so I quickly ordered more sharp sand and added that to finish my base. Since then I’ve emptied a paddling pool on the artificial grass and it’s caused dips. I’ve pulled back the grass and measured to see I’ve got a thickness of 50 mil of sharp sand. I believe I’ve got too much sharp sand down which is causing the dips. I was wondering if you could advise me on how to solve this problem? Is it a case of removing the sand and adding more mot or would there be an easier solution at this point?
Hi Owen, Ideally you want 20-40mm of sharp sand, so maybe remove some before re-levelling it, and maybe try not to empty your pool on it in the future 😉 Hope this helps. All the best, John 👷🏼♂️
Can anyone tell me the purpose of adding the sand on top of the grass is for please, I’ve seen lots of people do it & others not & im just in the process of doing my lawn
Did mine about 5 years ago I was told to use a tile batten around the edge and do the base like block paving (wakering higher than needed and screed it off to the right height ) was really hoping you show me a better way of securing the edges down did you say you usually just use those 4 inch staple like pegs? . The battens I've used have al expanded and the ants have had a party underneath so I need to relay it all . I didn't use that top layer which maybe an anti insect product so I'll have to use some of that stuff too. great work guys you always turn out great work

Hi pal what about drainage?
I recommend a timber border bedded into the sand and aggregate. Then you can use screws to fix the edge down. It will ruck up 100% if you don't
Thats what i do and we lay it the other way so if you was to look out of the house at the grass your looking into it not the way they've done it
