Tips from a Pro GLI Owner.
Number 1. Use Custom mode, set everything to sport, except engine sound. This gives you sport mode without the fake sounds. You can also adjust suspension to comfort, if you want to feel less road.
Number 2. Use custom mode for spirited driving, always have it on S mode. But before you come to complete stops, go back to D, the auto downshift from 2nd to 1st is janky.
Number 3. If you really want to do pulls, hold the traction control button for 3-5 secs, puts it in sport ESC. Computer doesn’t hold back any power this way.
Number 4. USE YOUR PADDLESHIFTERS. Coasting in 2nd gives you on demand power. The paddle shift are instant, zero delays. Whenever I need to pass on a 60 roll I just drop 2-3 gears and I’m gone.
Number 5. Utilize your stock wheels until it’s time to replace, they’re horrible but might as well not waste them. Get higher quality sticky tires.
Number 6. All you need is a new intake and tune, now you basically have another 100hp.
The N is a clown cart, we all know that, people with proper knowledge about cars know that. You're in better hands with the GLI, even more if you're willing to invest for a stage 2 or 3.

There is a video of a JB4 MK7 vs ELENTRA N and they were head to head. I’m also thinking this GLI was on automatic mode on a roll instead of manual mode. The automatic mode on Elentra N is designed to utilize maximum power. The GLI is not. You need to go manual on the DSG. I respect the value proposition the N line gives, I'm personally a VW guy. If I was going to stay with a stage 1 or 2 tune, I'd highly consider the N line. The reason we love VW is the potential. I have an MK7 Golf R with 575 hp and 505 tq . Stock block, and DSG runs flawlessly with those numbers with just a tune, running over 100,000 km like that. Not saying the N line can't do it, it just hasn't proven itself yet... if it does prove to run bigger power reliably then I'd consider it.

Chassis stiffening and bracing, track brakes, track tuned suspension, and E-LSD. It's just as planted in the road or track as the Honda.
N mode has anti-lag, keeps the turbo spooling so you always got boost out of corners.

I’m a big fan of both of these cars, Hyundai and Kia does make some interesting lighting decisions however. Kia and Hyundai have become so obsessed with unique and most of the time beautiful LED lighting, whether it be the headlights or the tail lights or ambient lighting. However even the most expensive Elantra does not come with LED front turn signals, first thing I noticed was this Elantra has LED bulbs installed instead of the stock halogen Ambers in the front lol. Of course other companies do it as well, but for example the refreshed 2023 Telluride and Palisade both just over $50k have halogen license plate bulbs, easily rectifiable but still it’s weird….

With those tires, and a poop tune, not surprised. An APR car would've performed much better. Much. But again, with the crap tires VW puts on the car out of the box, not surprised. The N comes with max summer performance tires. The Jetta comes with Hankook Kinergys 😅 If VW would just read the reviews and forums they would know their cars could perform much much better by just spending a tiny more on rubber. Oh well. VW owners just need to budget for a tune and tires is all. Which isn't bad.
I'm going APR Stage 3 with the IS38 turbo Monday. I will eat Ns nom nom nom.

A stage 1 GLI tuned by APR ( manual) not even DSG beat type R on a roll. The N lost to type R on a roll. But a stage 1 GLI loses to a stock N on a roll. IE is one of the worse tunes so I don’t blame him. Specially if you guys were using only automatic mode. The N is designed to preform with S mode. The GLI isn’t. The only way it performs well on roll is manual mode.
