Thanks a lot! 🙌 I’m glad the tips are helpful, even for tall keepers like yourself. You’re right - you can never have too much coverage in goal! Best of luck in your quarterfinal match on Tuesday! I’m sure you’ll crush it. Thanks for the support, and go out there and give it your all! 💪⚽🧤
Mentality is just as important as physicality. The reason Real Madrid was known for comebacks, and Spain for their composed play style was because Casillas acted like the game was level even when they were losing. I like to tell myself that it's still 0-0 even when we are losing.
That’s such a great mindset! You’re absolutely right-mentality is just as crucial as physicality, especially in high-pressure situations. Casillas is a perfect example of staying calm and composed no matter the score. Telling yourself it’s still 0-0 is a great way to keep focused and avoid letting the pressure get to you. Thanks for the tip 💪🧤
Another great video. I think being small when learning to be a GK is an advantage as it encourages you to learn the correct techniques. You can’t just stick out a hand, you have to move fast, work on positioning and be able to dive.
Thanks a lot! 🙌 You’re absolutely right - being smaller while learning to be a goalkeeper forces you to really focus on the fundamentals. You have to sharpen your positioning, speed, and diving because you can’t rely on just size or reach. It builds a solid foundation that makes you a better keeper in the long run. Glad you’re enjoying the videos, and thanks for sharing your insights! 💪⚽🧤

@@GroundGloryGoalkeeping Being able to read the offensive play coming toward you as you're in goal and how to view and interpret the oncoming play or how to read what you see coming toward you to either react as a keeper or recognize what's happening and help call out to your defense what your're seeing

Thanks so much for the support! 🎉 At 5'7" for 13 years old, you’re actually a good height for your age, and there’s plenty of time to grow taller. Even if you were considered "short" right now, it’s all about using your agility, technique, and positioning to make up for it - plenty of amazing goalkeepers are around that height or even shorter! Keep working hard, and I’m sure you’ll continue to improve. Thanks again for being a fan, and I’ll keep the content coming! 💪🧤⚽❤
Hey bro... I just wanted to ask since you've once played pro. Is the length of the goalpost from one end to the other about 8 yards apart also in the pro leagues? Or it's bigger not like in the amateur leagues?
Hey brother :) I have actually never played professionally. Which you'll see in my next video ;) But I can assure you that the goalposts 8 yds (7.32 m) apart and front ground up to the bar is 8 ft (2.44 m) :)
@@GroundGloryGoalkeeping thanks bro. One last thing. What is the thing you do or tell yourself before a striker shoots. Of course you have to be in your ready position in the perfect place closing the angle down. Then what is next? Do you just keep reminding yourself in your mind that you have to react quickly to the ball? Or you remind yourself to just look at how the ball is coming and decide if you will just do a collapse dive, maybe a one step shuffle and a dive, or maybe just a step and a dive? I know this might sound weird... But I'm just trying to know cause sometimes I perform good and sometimes I perform very very bad. Maybe it's my mindset of how I prepare myself before the oncoming shot.
That’s a great question, and it doesn’t sound weird at all! What you’re talking about is something a lot of goalkeepers think about. Your mindset and preparation before a shot can make a big difference in how you perform. Here’s what I do and what you can try: Stay calm and focused: The key is to remain relaxed but alert. If you’re too tense, it’s harder to react quickly. I focus on keeping my breathing steady and staying calm while looking at the striker and the ball. Read the ball and body language: Before the shot, I focus on the ball and the striker’s body language (especially their plant foot and hips). This helps me get clues about where the ball might go. Trust your instincts: Once I’m in position, I try not to overthink. It’s important to trust your training and instincts. Yes, you can think about the type of dive (collapse dive, one-step, etc.), but it should be more instinctive. Overthinking can slow down your reaction time. Try to clear your mind as much as possible. React, don’t guess: I tell myself to react to the ball, not guess. As soon as you see the shot being taken, your body should just respond. Sometimes you’ll dive early, and sometimes it’s about waiting a split second longer to read the shot properly. It's all about how your defenders are positioned: if it's a central shot, you hope your defenders cover one side so you can have the other. If it's an angled shot, and you're in a good position, I try to wait as a long as possible but it's already quite difficult to score. It might help to focus less on doing everything “perfectly” and more on staying present in the moment. Trust your training, stay calm, and let your instincts take over. Your mindset going into the shot can definitely impact your performance, so practicing staying relaxed and confident is key. Keep working at it - you’ll find consistency as you go! 💪⚽🧤
Do you remember me? I commented on one of your videos about being scared of power shots. I’m not as scared anymore, but to make it onto my school’s team, I need to be physically strong. I’ll have to block shots from the best power shooter in school, and if a 6-10 year old gets hit by those, it could be really tough for them. Could you give me more tips on how to get physically stronger and improve in 1v1 situations?
Hey, of course I remember you! I’m glad to hear you’re not as scared of power shots anymore - great progress! 💪 For physical strength, here are some tips: Strength training: Focus on building overall strength, especially in your arms, core, and legs. Exercises like push-ups, squats, planks, and lunges will help. Hand strength: Grip exercises can improve your ability to catch and control hard shots. Try using a grip strengthener or squeezing a stress ball regularly. For 1v1s, try watching this video and see if it helps :) ruclips.net/video/Lch3un35Xw0/видео.html Keep working on your strength, and don’t forget to focus on your technique as well! You’ve got this. im 5'7 at 15, is tat too short for my age group? any tips on how to play out from the back as I am not confident to play short passes and usually send it long?
At 5'7" at 15 years old, you're not too short at all! There’s plenty of time to grow, and even if you stay around that height, you can still be a fantastic goalkeeper. It’s all about using your strengths, like agility and positioning. For playing out from the back, confidence comes with practice. Here are a few tips to help with short passes: Work on technique: Focus on accuracy and control in training by practicing short passes with your defenders. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll become in games. Stay calm: Don’t rush your decision. Take an extra second to assess your options before making the pass. If the short pass isn’t on, then it’s okay to send it long. Communicate: Let your defenders know where you want them to be so they can give you easy passing options. Keep practicing, and soon playing short will feel natural. You’ve got this! 💪⚽🧤
At 5'8", it’s totally normal to feel a bit shorter compared to taller goalkeepers, but don’t let that discourage you! It’s all about maximizing your strengths. Here are a few tips to help: Positioning: Make sure your positioning is spot on. Being in the right place at the right time can make up for height. Explosiveness: Work on your jumping and agility so you can reach those high shots and crosses with ease. Confidence: Own your space and be vocal. A confident keeper, no matter their height, can dominate the box. Many great keepers aren’t super tall, so focus on what you can control, and you’ll feel more confident under the bar! You’ve got this! 💪🧤⚽
I get it, being 145 cm (around 4'9") at 13 might make you feel a bit short, especially as a goalkeeper, but don’t worry! You’ve still got plenty of time to grow, and there are many ways to make your height work for you. Here are a few things to focus on: Work on agility and quick reactions: Being quick off your line and sharp with your footwork can make up for height. Positioning: Stay a step ahead by being in the right spot. Good positioning can help you cover more of the goal. Explosive jumps: Strengthen your legs and work on your jumping ability so you can reach those high shots. Remember, some of the best keepers in the world weren’t the tallest. Stay focused, keep practicing, and you’ll continue to improve! You’ve got this! 💪🧤
