      Scrappy Specs with Boomburst (what you click 95% of the time) with Focus Blast, H-Pump ans Fire Blast has been a legit set even in the higher tiers funnily enough. No defensive utility, bad speed, but it breaks open the metagame like nobody else can (H-Pump/Focus Blast for Ttar, Focus Blast for Heatran, either Focus or Fire Blast for Ferro etc, this thing has an option for every potential normal resist, and every non resist gets blasted by an effective 210 BP move (unless you play soundproof Kommo-O)

It's also worth noting that there was no viable physical grass mon except Breloom until Gen7 came in with two of them, and the prominent Terrain presence caused by the Tapus gave Breloom a lot of problems with its usual setup pattern, since it needs at least two turns to set up Spore and SD. Even in these conditions Breloom was considered too strong for UU, and so it went to UUBL after years of being an OU mon.

      Compare that to swellow's 140 BP STAB move coming from a 50 (now 70) base SpA and almost no coverage. Granted, Swellow is much faster, but basically: Swellow is better at ripping offensive teams apart, Exploud can break any defensive core open

    I'm a big fan of sound based abilities in fictional fights, and I love the attention Pokemon gives to that with how many moves and Pokemon specialize in that. One Pokemon who does this that I would love to see covered on this series is Kommo-o. Sun and Moon's Psuedo Legendary. I love this thing's concept. An armored warrior dragon that hits its own scales to make sound waves, and those waves that can both attack enemies and buff its own stats.
    I remember Kommo-o being really weak with very few options when it first appeared, but Gamefreak kept buffing it with new moves in every game. I'd be very interested in seeing its competitive journey, even if it's only from the previous Gen. I've heard nowadays it's better in SIngles than it is in Doubles, but I haven't delved deep enough to know for sure, or for what reasons. Maybe SIngles just values its bulk, dangerous setup-options, and Stealth Rock access more than Doubles values its stab spread attacks.

      while I agree the kommo-o would be an interesting pokemon, given that its only been around for 2 generations, if feels like a waste to make an episode on it now, since most of its competitive history is more of recent history than not, in addition, they've said explicitly in various places that gen 6+ mons are currently off the table since there's not a lot to cover and it'd be weird to do mons from gen 6 or later when they haven't even done all the fully evolved gen 1 mons

    • @babywizard9027
      @babywizard9027 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, Kommo-o is one of my favorite pokemon because it has so many fun sets.
      Substitute + Belly Drum with Soundproof is amazing for countering roar and other sound moves that would usually counter substitute, just like Exploud did in Gen 2.
      You can also use a Clanging Scales + Throat spray set to get a +1 boost to all your stats except special attack which gets +2.
      You can also use the signature Z move and get an omniboost while doing big damage.
      You can also use a bulky set with stealth rock and take advantage of Kommo-os solid defenses.
      There's just so many things Kommo-o can do, and it's good at all of them.

    Normal started out extremely potent up until Gen 3, then it sunk in usage hard, turning into one of the worse Types ever.

    • @dhichicpop2531
      @dhichicpop2531 2 года назад +9

      Bug while hitting three types super effectively, is pretty bad offensively. Alongside Grass, it is the most resisted type, resisted by 39% of the types in the game. Grass is even more useful due to being one of the two types that hits Water super effectively.
      Bug is only good as STAB, U-Turn and coverage for Psychic types (since it hits 2/3 types that resist Psychic, and most learned Signal Beam).
      I agree with the other types that perform better.

    • @Drakorre
      @Drakorre 2 года назад +7

      The lack of resistances hurts a lot, especially now with plenty of powerful moves and fighting coverage being everywhere. And unlike rock and Ice, It brings nothing offensively. The only Reason blissey and chansey are good Is because they are min maxed special walls

    Fun fact, in gen 3 there was an unused ability called Cacophony that was believed to be associated with Exploud and its evolutionary line, it was functionally identical to Soundproof.

Its base Special Attack would increase to 131, its Speed to 98, its Special Defense to 93, and its HP to 114. My favourite memory with exploud was using a Scrappy one to sweep Phoebe's entire team in ORAS.

    Well Exploud taught us one thing, if you let your voice of love take you higher, you will succeed no matter what.

    Wonderful way to start off the year. The Whismur Evolution Line will absolutely always be my #1 Favorite Pokémon of all time. Everything I see in me, I see in them. To a point, I AM them (yes, I have a booming voice, but I also see a lot more in them that most people don't). Every FSG video I kept hoping would finally be this one, and as soon as I looked and saw this video in my Subscription Feed, I just smiled my absolute brightest, stared at the thumbnail in joy for about 10 minutes, pulled out my Exploud Figure to sit on my lap as I watched this, and then I proceeded to sit through this entire thing. And now I'm even more happy to see that Exploud didn't totally stink and had a lot of good moments, especially in Later Generations.

    Exploud is very underrated in my opinion. Base 490 isn’t bad, and by nature of being a Normal type gives it a very wide movepool. And when Boomburst got added, it had another sound based Normal move much stronger than Hyper Voice. But yeah, various other normal types surpass it: Tauros, Blissey, Snorlax, Miltank, Ursaring, and of course Slaking (if you don’t take Truant into consideration).
    It’s a shame. It’s very cool and deserves some more recognition.

    0:28 Although I was a guitarist in a failed death metal band, we did have Exploud and damn, was he the perfect demon for our voice.

    Like i said in the Venomoth video, it's crazy the fact that giving a Pokemon just one move can entirely change it's Competitive career

    Competitive Career: Exploud started off as a small threat that used Salac Berry + Belly Drum Pass. Though, it was all he had in the beginning. But Gen 4 came and he could never come back to it. When Gen 6 came and Boomburst was gifted to him, high and low tiers learnt to fear the words of *”EXPLOUD!!!!”*

    Finally, another Pokémon I used during a playthrough and fell in love with that saw competitive success, that's another one for my surprisingly short list.
