ABS going on and off at random? Had this EXACT same issue with my '01. It was the ABS computer itself, not any of the sensors. Shops were quoting me $1000+ to rebuild the ABS which was absurd. Got a replacement computer from the junkyard for $30, fixed it and never happened again. Opened up the old one, and a capacitor had lifted from the circuit board, probably causing the issue.

I own two Durango SUVs (150k and 212K miles). Both have problems with window "regulators" (electric window motor assemblies). Radiators have needed to be replaced on both as the plastic endcap fails. Both have required "freeze plugs" replaced due to rust-through leaks. Both have had the plastic on the center console crack and fail. One has had a failure of the Catalytic converter at 150K miles. The rest are regular maintenance items such as thermostat, hoses, belts.
Bought a 2003 rango I’m embarrassed at how much I spent to keep it going but it runs great…. I hope I don’t have anymore issues for a while it has about 170k miles on it now
My common problem has been my PCM...everything else that has gone out on it is pretty routine and hasnt failed a 2nd time...but im now buying my 3rd pcm since 2014....like every 3 1/2 years at this point...shes an 03 with 200k so she getting up there but still running great
I had to replace my pcm in 2017 a few months after buying it. After installing a junk yard pcm, I found out there is SO much more to the computer than I thought. Ended up having to replace a few more modules when I found another Durango at the junk yard with my exact setup.
My parents had a 99 with the 5.9 and 4wd, transmission went out twice in 5 years. Considering the bad reputation chrysler has overall for their transmissions in this era, weird that the transmission didn't even make the list. Considering the cost, I would say it's a "top" problem, moreso than any of these.
I put a valve body in mine about 50k miles ago and it drives fantastic. Cruise control slams gears trying to get this fat Lard up a hill, so I drive without it on hilly roads. Early 2000s Chrysler trans were and still are really hit or miss.
@@kennymelgar3740 Honestly not really. The only regular maintenance I did was the oil changes. My first one had a 4.7 and was tuned, intake, ported throttle body and had an exhaust. It his redline multiple times per day over the course of 50k miles and ran perfect with 200k on it. Best vehicle I have ever owned
My 4.7 is having coolant problems and I'm always getting a code for one of the sensors that I can't track down. My check engine light on I don't know what the hell's going on with this car
Crank position sensor is a big problem, especially trying to replace it, Also make sure to get the right one, or it will run very Rough, or not at all..
I just found a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus for sale about 12 miles away that has 232k miles on it. It's a great price, but I'd like to know how much life is left in the engine now that it has so many miles on it.
Here in maine there are very few 2nd gen rams or durangos. The 97-03 fords seem to be the most prevalent 'older' truck still on roads. Gmc 1500's also like to snap frames once rusted. I see it usually rear driver side where shock mounts to frame.
I’m currently trying to fix my heater but I do have some other problems like the window on my passenger side in the front will work sometimes and just some other small things

The 4.7's are a completely different design than what the 5.2 & 5.9 Magnums are!
5.9 magnum in my 2003 SLT with 167000 miles on her. Always garage kept, still looks new inside and out. This little truck is prolific, nothing it can't handle.
Thank you for doing a video on this, especially shortly after requesting if your crew could do one. For i own one myself right now and am trying to make sure if any of these issues are happening I can fix it asap. 2 questions though. How to stop oil burning or what could cause it on one of these? I replace the valve gasket covers and cleaned the throttle body but its burning about a quarter of oil every 5-800 miles. Second question is low idle from time to time after engine is hot it drops from 600 rpms to 480 or so rpms, would that possibly be the throttle body sensor going bad or my maps sensor?
The cause of your oil burning is most likely your valve seals. I just rebuilt my 4.7 at 200k just as preventative maintenance. The valve seals were definitely shot. The timing chain guides were also on their last leg. Everything else looked really clean for 200k. The cause of your low idle is most likely your (IAC) Idle Air Control Valve, which is cheap and easy to replace.
Intake plenum gasket. There's a gasket under the intake manifold that lets go, and is probably the root cause of both the oil loss and the low idle. My 2003 had this issue, and the gasket replacement solved it.
My dad drives a 99 dodge Durango 4x4 and we are just now replacing factory original parts on the truck idk and it has 250k+ miles on her she still runs only thing that is wrong with the old girl is a senior under the engine is going out what makes her shut off but she starts right back up
I have a 2003 Dodge Durango. Still a very good vehicle..keeping up with the. maintenance is not that bad...this only thing I need done is my front rotors...Can you tell me where is the best place to get these??? Never mind I just saw the website👍
Mine after driving a little wants to lock up. I smell a burning and if i keep driving it, it will start smoking out of the wheel area. I have already had all the front brakes replaced and they still dont know where the issue os coming from. I do have to say that it was Pep Boys who changed everything and they said they put a lot of the parts on ther for free like the break pads and two other parts. I paid for the master cylinder and new tires bc whem I bought it, it had weather rotted tires and breaks wouldnt apply correctly. When I got her back the first issue I memtioned started happening so I I dont know if it was Pep Boys or just something that would have happened later on anyways. Any info would be appreciated 👍
Do you have any info on the rear light assemblies failing. My L rear blinker failed, brake light and tail light also. I changed bulb, didn’t work, bought new screw turn bulb bracket, didn’t work. Ugh!!
Its people who do t maintain their vehicles that complain when something goes wrong with an engine. My dad has a 2001 ford expedition with nearly 300,000 miles and he still takes it on long road trips. Yet a family friend has 2014 raptor 1st owner and already has a rebuilt engine.
Hey hopefully your having a good day.. So I disconnected a wrong hose and coolant went into my Throttle body what can go wrong or what should I do to fix the problem.
Pull sparkplugs and fuse for fuel pump. Crank engine to eject coolant from cylinders. A quick crank should do it, give it a blast of compressed air down the sparkplug holes in the head, and also a short spray of wd40 to displace any rust causing moisture in the cylinder. Put it back together and run it.
I still have mine 2001 same color and model in the video runs good has brand new engine jasper and transmission everybody ask me to buy it I am having a issue with the abs break light comes on random and it has brand new breaks and rotors but the light comes on and I hear a roaring sound under the drivers side as I drive it lately. I took it to the shop before they said they couldnt find anything but something is wrong i have to get old blue fixed any ideas what it could be????

Mine runs perfect until 3000 to 3500 and then loses power and starts cutting out and bogging down and u have to let off footfeet to get going, I've replaced cam, crank,TPS ,iac, cleaned throttle body . Any suggestions where to look next?
In my '01 R/T which only came with AWD, when my front prop shaft puked (both times) I could pull the shaft and switch T-case knob from AWD to 4HI and like that I drove just fine. This last time it's been from this past summer until earlier today when I finally installed the replacement. YMMV
i have 2003 dodge durango same color as on your video. it makes like an engine revving sound when the engine is cold and you start it, but disappears after a few seconds. somebody told it is some kind of a sensor. i notice that when i drove it the other day for about 30 minutes and while im sitting on a red stop light i notice that it is making the same revving sound and it did not go away for about 10 minutes or more. any idea what this revving sound is?
Hello, I have a question about Dodge Durango from 2002. As in this video, there are roof rails (elements placed crosswise). How can you remove them to, for example, easily enter the garage? The car is about 1803mm, the garage is up to 2000mm. What is the height of these roof rails from the point of contact with the car body to its maximum height? Thank you for your help. greetings

I’m the extremely off chance anyone sees this. My issue is an extended crank time to turn over. I think it’s throttle body at this point (newer battery, newer spark plug and ignition system). No check engine light tho… help a brother out
Love the video. Love the channel. Solid SUV. Is that the 4.7 I've heard people on Facebook have nothing but problems when it comes to the 4.7L. I have a 99 5.2L twin turbo Durango. One question I do have to ask for everyone is Why does the oil pressure sender or oil pump fluctuate??? I know its a constant question but acceleration is fine but braking, oil gauge will drop to almost 40 then when acceleration its normal. How do we fix that or is that how dodge built this SUV. Thank you.
Yes that's a 4.7 in it (ya can tell simply by the big square boxy black plastic intake box on top...the 5.2 & 5.9 Magnum's with the carb style throttle bodies on 'em have the MUCH smaller round ones on 'em)...& yeah, the 4.7's have some well known issues! Most all of which are primarily due to neglected proper servicing/maintaining of 'em. If ya run the correct weight & viscosity of oil (5W20...NOTHIN' thicker or heavier than that!!) in 'em, use the right coolant in 'em (the orange stuff & not the normal green stuff), change the oil religiously every 3,000 miles, & DO NOT keep drivin' 'em if/when the temp gauge creeps up very much over 210-220° (at the very most) they're fairly good engines & usually won't be too troublesome...but if ya neglect 'em or overheat 'em they'll definitely become a major problem in a hurry!! Yeah, the oil pressure fluctuation is somewhat normal...if/when it goes totally wacky (by either reading wayyy low or wayyy high) it's most usually because the oil pressure sensor is bad & it just needs replaced, which is a fairly simple, inexpensive, & easy fix...or it could be due to the oil pump pick up screen is becoming clogged up, which is a much more difficult job to clean (or replace). Given a choice though...I'd go with the good ol' reliable & proven 318/5.2 Magnum's over these 4.7's myself...👍
Mine did that also (99'). My mechanic just replaced a few sensors and he said its fixed now. Of course, mine didn't start acting up until I was on a real bumpy gravel road. Everytime I stopped my oil pressure gauge wouldn't even registet
I have a 99 4wd 5.2. It will stall after about 30 minutes of running. It will start back up after about 20 minutes. It will start back up with starting fluid for a few seconds after the initial 30 minutes. My guess is fuel pump. Any help? No codes on generic scanner. Battery posts are clean and tight. Lights and dash stay on after stall. No no buss across odometer. I know it could be the ecm or the crank position sensor or cam position sensor. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge or I'd test that. Pretty sure its the fuel pump cause it will start with a squirt of starting fluid for a few seconds.
My problems on my 99 is stiff suspension wven after new shocks and tires. Ac dont blow cold and nothing blows out of dash vents facing you, only floor and defrost. And the door lock thing.
Update! She ran hot on me coming home one evening and it failed the exhaust gas in coolant test. Verified blown head gasket at #2 cyl. Due to age, needing lifters, and since I love my "classic" Durango, I have since replaced the engine with a new crate engine. Still going 😉
Curious, mine has 255k miles. I had all the fluids flushed when I bought it and the guy said no metal shavings in the tranny. Maybe its been replaced already...

The rest are regular maintenance items such as thermostat, hoses, belts.
+addertooth1 Thanks for the feedback!
Bought a 2003 rango I’m embarrassed at how much I spent to keep it going but it runs great…. I hope I don’t have anymore issues for a while it has about 170k miles on it now
+James Z Thanks for the feedback!
Just picked up a 2000 Durango r/t and can’t complain minus the fuel consumption 😆
Same
Does that crapper still run?
@Onyi Ononye Run Seafoam through the intake. Add Marvel Mystery oil to the engine oil. This might solve the issue and help lubricate the sticky valves
Mine went out twice within one month luckily it was still under warranty
Yea man that’s rare most Dodge Durango transmissions last forever however in anything else that came from the Chrysler brand failed miserably
I have 2003 all original! No rust from frame too body! Only my back hatch has some rust! I have now have the manifold on the passenger side
My first vehlice was a 99 durango. Had 160k miles. Had to go into the shop all the time...
Helping to turn my durang back into a duranGO!
Guess im lucky my 99 Durango isn't having any of those issues even with almost 209,000 miles on it
Same here. I owned three of these, all had over 200k when I got rid of them. Never had any of those issues.
@@clarda1 was it always kept on maintenance?
@@clarda1 I’m thinking about getting one I’m 17
@@kennymelgar3740 Honestly not really. The only regular maintenance I did was the oil changes. My first one had a 4.7 and was tuned, intake, ported throttle body and had an exhaust. It his redline multiple times per day over the course of 50k miles and ran perfect with 200k on it. Best vehicle I have ever owned
Have 1 now with 206,000+ miles and still going strong
My 4.7 is at 215k n im pretty confident its going to see 315k,Oil changed religiously
That's cool my 99 5.9 has rite at 209,000 and runs like a champ
01 5.9 has 235k and transfer case exploded at 190k and been driving rwd ever since. Still runs great
My 4.7 is having coolant problems and I'm always getting a code for one of the sensors that I can't track down. My check engine light on I don't know what the hell's going on with this car
I would replace your timing chain/guides/tensioners, oil pump an do a full seal/gasket set asap!
Please make more videos like this. All make and model. Thank you.
Crank position sensor is a big problem, especially trying to replace it, Also make sure to get the right one, or it will run very Rough, or not at all..
BALL JOINTS
Yes
Ball joints go bad in any vehicle
Just uppers, working on heim joint conversion
Steering box 🤣
😂😂😂
I just found a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus for sale about 12 miles away that has 232k miles on it. It's a great price, but I'd like to know how much life is left in the engine now that it has so many miles on it.
I think I’m having ALL 5 problems 😫😫😫😫 !!
But point A to B right?
Steering knuckles strip out for the sliding pin bolts
I seriously can’t remember the last time I saw one of these. They rushed out like crazy up north.
Here in the United states they are everywhere lol
Here in maine there are very few 2nd gen rams or durangos. The 97-03 fords seem to be the most prevalent 'older' truck still on roads. Gmc 1500's also like to snap frames once rusted. I see it usually rear driver side where shock mounts to frame.
I’m currently trying to fix my heater but I do have some other problems like the window on my passenger side in the front will work sometimes and just some other small things
*had a 5.9 and traded it in for an all black 4.7 to save some gas. the engines on these are pretty powerful; but i had so many over heating problems and coolant issues. went through 3 engines. all over heated. after spending so much money on a truck i loved; i vowed to never buy dodge again.*
I own a ‘96 RAM 2500 with a 5.9, and never had such issues. Not all Magnums are bad.
@@adriananoelle4699
Hi. I'm planning to buy one 5.9 Diesel.
In your experience those can be a geat love?
@@adriananoelle4699 The 5.2's & 5.9's are solid engines (& he didn't say that he had any problems with the 5.9 that he had...the problems that he had were all with the 4.7's that he had!...which is valid because they're well known for having some issues with 'em...particularly if/when they're not properly maintained very well &/or they get too overheated!). The 4.7's are a completely different design than what the 5.2 & 5.9 Magnums are!
Last year of the 4.7 which was in 03 rectified all the problems for prior years
I still like the LA over the magnum, most of the 5.2 I've driven run better than the 5.9 and felt stronger .
I was waiting for this video.. since I'm on the market looking for a Durango
+Maro Sanchez Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Stick with the 5.2 or 5.9 and you will be fine. 4.7 is great if you like to work on it.
I have a '99 with the 5.2ltr. Absolutely love it. 325K miles and going.
5.9 magnum in my 2003 SLT with 167000 miles on her. Always garage kept, still looks new inside and out. This little truck is prolific, nothing it can't handle.
Love mine. Just have to replace ball joints every couple years.
Just bought a '98. Hope it lasts a while. It has less than 180k on it.
Very useful information and a great presentation! Thanks for doing this video.
@@markk3652 would think a vaccume leak would cause lean condition and result in a fast idle?
Any tips on the ABS & brake issues and if it's a easy fix or the cost
Great video. Excuse the thumbs down. Mouse finger stuttered.
My dad drives a 99 dodge Durango 4x4 and we are just now replacing factory original parts on the truck idk and it has 250k+ miles on her she still runs only thing that is wrong with the old girl is a senior under the engine is going out what makes her shut off but she starts right back up
How is rear hatch problems not on this list? Or Ball joints
Ugh!!
Tapping the bearings back in for the drive differential rear axle is doable but bring a good 🔨
Yeah axle bearings are a bitch
Transmission stares, am I a joke to you? They're pretty great, mine had 215k and runs decent.
Its people who do t maintain their vehicles that complain when something goes wrong with an engine. My dad has a 2001 ford expedition with nearly 300,000 miles and he still takes it on long road trips. Yet a family friend has 2014 raptor 1st owner and already has a rebuilt engine.

I have near 200k miles on my transmission. Still runs and drives and I'm having no issues
My 99' has 255k miles. Runs decent. Already planning on an engine rebuild
I have a 2000 with a 106.000 miles on it. It has two wheel drive with a 5.9 liter.
I just replaced that drive side bearing on my Dakota.
I got the 99 5.2 and i got it working to its finest but ac not working at moment 🤣

180k still going strong 💪
If the front drive shaft is off do you keep the button for the 4x4 in the AWD position or the 4 Hi position??
In my '01 R/T which only came with AWD, when my front prop shaft puked (both times) I could pull the shaft and switch T-case knob from AWD to 4HI and like that I drove just fine. This last time it's been from this past summer until earlier today when I finally installed the replacement. YMMV
Axle bearings and seals, power steering pump failure: Top problems 1-10

i have 2003 dodge durango same color as on your video. it makes like an engine revving sound when the engine is cold and you start it, but disappears after a few seconds. somebody told it is some kind of a sensor. i notice that when i drove it the other day for about 30 minutes and while im sitting on a red stop light i notice that it is making the same revving sound and it did not go away for about 10 minutes or more. any idea what this revving sound is?
Anymore videos about 98 Durangos, rear end problems in particular?
Found an 02 with 77k miles and new transmission for $6500. Wondering if it's worth the risk?
Hello, I have a question about Dodge Durango from 2002. As in this video, there are roof rails (elements placed crosswise). How can you remove them to, for example, easily enter the garage? The car is about 1803mm, the garage is up to 2000mm. What is the height of these roof rails from the point of contact with the car body to its maximum height? Thank you for your help. greetings

How do get the ac working is it a blen door were is it can you show me plz
Never seen any of these on a durango.
Thank you.
Mine does that too, it will drop when you brake then rise when you accelerate. I never had an issue so it should be fine.
Ive had 4 durangos of this era none of what u stated ever happened im thinking more of water pumps and rusty rocker panels
What about the 5.9 Rt AWD? Is that driveshaft the same?

I have a 2001 SLT Plus and lucky. It's 2WD and on this list, I've only had to change the throttle position sensor.
Update! She ran hot on me coming home one evening and it failed the exhaust gas in coolant test. Verified blown head gasket at #2 cyl. Due to age, needing lifters, and since I love my "classic" Durango, I have since replaced the engine with a new crate engine. Still going 😉
Can the rear window be designed to go down like a regular window?

Curious, mine has 255k miles. I had all the fluids flushed when I bought it and the guy said no metal shavings in the tranny. Maybe its been replaced already...
