Hello Tonya, i'm confused now , in a previous video ,you said not to completly rinse out a conditionner and one could even leave it in overghnight for extra moisture...🤔. Thank you.
Love you videos. I will print the flash cards so thank you. Quick question because you are a chemist. What is your take or advice on the Cherry Lola Treatment for when our hair has those spiderweb tangles and dry knots on the ends… no matter the amount of deep conditioning. Cherry Lola is just plain yogurt, baking soda and liquid amino acids. Are there long term effects or any wisdom about putting these agents in the hair? The after effects does give life to curls and it helps clear the spiderweb tangles. What are your thoughts?

Preach! Good thing I never followed trends. I did however try different things accordingly. Using a detangling brush for detangling AND styling is amazing. Cuts down so much time and work
Not necessarily advice, but the most important thing that I learned that really helped me with my hair journey is understanding the difference between larger and smaller proteins and what’s best for fine hair. I was using a keratin conditioner on my hair for the longest time, and I was wondering why it wasn’t giving me the results I was looking for. Finally learned that I should be using more wheat proteins or vegetable proteins, and that was a game changer for me.
I have to start doing that. I wait 2 weeks, and my hair is crispy by then😢 Wash day is so time consuming, that's why I wait 2 weeks But my hair pays the price! 😭
Some advice I’ve received that really helped: trim your hair when it needs to be trimmed. I was trimming every 6 or so weeks as we have been told to do growing up. But it wasn’t until I stopped that I retained more length.
The best advice I received was to use a leave-in conditioner after deep conditioning my hair. I never used a leave-in before I went natural We were not taught that in Cosmetology school back when I went there.
Keeping hair stretched in twists, oil rinse as the last thing in the shower before putting leave in, using peppermint, rosemary and lavender essential oils in carrier oil for hair growth, trim as needed, and finally, leaving my hair alone- I only comb it once or twice per week. 15+ inches of growth since my last relaxer way back in 2020! 😊
Hi Tonya, best advise was “do what is best for your hair and do not compare.” Also, I just big chopped again, started my natural grey hair journey; can you please address the science/care for grey hair content? Thank you for all that you do ❤.
Yeah!! My hair is BRITTLE, tangling. & so dehydrated that it has no curl pattern. The past 3 weeks I've been deep condish-n every week, instead of every month. Curl pattern is showing progress. 🙌🏝 of Barbados 🇧🇧
The best hair advice I learned was what a clarifying and chelating shampoo was because it changed my hair drastically! My hair was no longer dry and hard after shampoo because I got rid of product build up and was able to retain moisture better
@@christinenzau6390 At first I was clarifying once a week for about a month and a half but I always deep conditioner afterwards. Now I found a good moisturizing shampoo that cleans my hair, but still leaves it moisturize. It’s Quidad moisturizing shampoo. So, now I’m doing every two weeks. Some people do once a month.
The #1 game changer is prepoo everytime with coconut oil (sometimes I combine with aloevera) I have mature sisterlocks and very dry kinky coils. This tip came from you and I am very grateful 🙏
Using the whole product system. If I am doing a wash and go, I use the whole line (Uncle Funkys Daughter) to get moisturized curl definition. If I am straightening my hair, I use the whole line (Chi) to prepare my hair for the heat. I get consistent results, and my hair has been maintaining moisture, length and strength so much better. I am also saving money, because I'm not mixing and matching product lines to get lousy results.
Adding ayurverdic herbs (henna, fenugreek, hibiscus, amla dandelion root and zyzyphus and others so many to list) to my regimen was a game changer for me!! And heat to all my DC even when I re moisturize thru the week.
I can honestly say that following your advice for my high porosity hair has made it so much easier. I use the advice from the flash card and it really works. Thank u
My best hair advice, was frequent scalp massages, oiling my scalp often and deep conditioning every week. Using clove water helps too. I saw some changes in my hair in 2 weeks after doing all the above.
My best hair advice that I have ever received is your whole video on “Holy Grail Products for High Porosity Hair and the “ Holy Grail Products for Low Porosity Hair”. I have high porosity hair and my daughter has low porosity hair and those two videos have made our hair care so much easier. Although, I still need to work on my hair care routine but we are no more jumping from one product to another and washing money down the drain, literally! Thank you Girl ❤❤
Best advice came from you!!!! ❤ Jajoba oil in my hair after washing it and while its still wet. As soon as i take the conditioner off I put jajoba oil on my ends. It truly does lock in the moisture and has reduced my shedding significantly!!! The biggest issue I have is SHEDDING and it's so depressing. This has helped a lot. Thank you so much beautiful queen ❤
My best hair advise came from YOU! LOL! Beleive it or not I do not have natural hair. I still have relaxed hair, but I use all your advise to keep my hair on my head! LOL! But the one that I implemented that I absolutely love is prepoo'ing my hair. I didn't used to do that before listening to you and it has been a game changer for me!
I really wish more brands would do travel size so that you could try out. That's why people's houses are full of stuff! Many which don't get on with your hair, but because you've paid out the dollars, you feel you can't just throw it out! So you start mixing or use it for other things like shaving your legs!
Game changer for me was not detangling my fine kinky hair with water based products. I detangle with oil then proceed to wash and condition my hair. Went from wash day to wash hour.
Thank you for another great tip. I left in my detangling nectar instead of using a leave in conditioner on last weekend's wash. My curls were so bad I rewashed on Wednesday. Now I know what made the difference. This channel means so much to me. I don't have a lot of people to go to for advice. Many Blessings Miss Lady
Best hair advice I've ever received was to TRIM MY ENDS REGULARLY. Many black women are obsessed with length and would rather cut off a toe than cut off their hair ends, LOL. But if your ends are split, you're going to lose most of your length anyway as the split travels further and further up toward the root. Also when your ends look raggedy, your hair looks raggedy, you look raggedy. When I started clipping my ends more frequently my hair grew so long and so quickly, I was shocked. It holds a curl. It's shinier without the dull ends. It stopped shedding all over the floor leaving a trail like Hansel and Gretel crumbs. And it's literally TWICE the length it was when I wasn't trimming as often as needed. TOTAL GAME CHANGER & BEST HAIR ADVICE EVER!!! (Just discovered your channel and love how knowledgeable you are. I can't wait to hear your next topic. I hope you use my suggestion - if you haven't already done a video on trimming ends. Gimme a shout out if you do. - Marsha M. from New Jersey. 💇🏽♀)
For me, it's been wearing a bonnet at night regardless if I have a satin pillow case or not..I have had less breakage and I have retained my hair length more as well
Best hair advice was not to drench my scalp with hair oils every other day,let my natural sebum nourish my scalp and to avoid blocking the hair follicles.
Thank u for the tips....my best tip i learn is to always keep your hair moisturizes if u want healthy hair....protective styles helps to grow your hair...i mean keeping your hands out of your hair.....thank u again for the hair tips may god keep blessing u sis❤❤❤❤.
Love love love you. Love the way you are straight talk. Other are bouncing around and talking about things that doesn't matter. You are gorgeous and intelligent.
Aloe vera juice and water right out of the shower. Naptural85 taught me this and it changed my WHOLE hair hair regimen. I can tell when I don't use it. The curls don't pop and the whole style is dry and crunchy.
Best advice was to use warm water to rinse my low porosity hair rather than cold water. My hair absorbs product better and my hair isn’t hard after rinsing. Game changer!
My best advice was to deep condition with heat weekly & always apply my leave in conditioner in the shower. And it is true one time I didn’t & I saw the big difference.
I don't remember who it was on RUclips that recommended applying my leave-in in the shower. I've been doing that, then waiting before continuing with my routine(sealing, etc) Even though I'm high porosity, it helps to give my hair time to soak in the leave-in. My hair still doesn't stay moisturized as long as I would like, but, it stays moisturized longer than it does when I apply the leave in after I get out of the shower I seal when my hair is almost dry Still damp, but no longer wet
The moisture vs protein balance was a game changer for me. I use a deep conditioner that has a little bit of both and has AMAZING slip (looked for a specific ingredient thanks to a RUclipsr as well!). This product is so good that I use it as a regular conditioner on regular weeks (only leave it for 5 min as per instructions) and I use it for detangling and deep conditioning ( 30 min). Leaves my hair soft and my curls pop really good. Best thing it's CHEAP snd it's made in my country. It's good on both ny children's hair as well.
Using a leave in conditioner after washing and conditioning hair is the best advice ever. I swear by Aphogee leave in conditioner (both the liquid and the cream) best product ever!!
Hello, thank you for the video. I am a little bit confused. Do we use the deep conditioner or mask after the shampoo or after the conditioner? Some say it's after the shampoo because it helps with product absorption, while others say it's after the conditioner. What is the truth?
Thank you for the knowledge that you share! May God make you ruler over much ❤ Question: what’s the difference between deep conditioner and leave in conditioner (from chemistry standpoint)? And why can’t we leave deep conditioner in?
Thank you! :-) DC are usually thicker than leave in's and need to be rinsed out because of that to avoid build up, also DC will usually have more conditioning performance then a leave-in conditioner. Great question! :-)
As always, thanks Tonya for those great tips. Overall best advice has been to carefully finger detangle my stretched hair under running water in the shower. Wash days are so easy now. 😊
There’s so many and I learned the majority from you. One that was especially new to me was oiling my scalp at night. I really appreciate that advice. I have a question also. What do you think about the ingredient methylisothiazolinone? What is it’s role in hair care products? One derm influencer says to avoid it.
Prepoo! Preepoo! Prepoo! Different kinds of prepoos with different ingredients for different reasons depending on what my hair is going through at the time always well usually almost always coconut oil base. Best advice I ever got pre-poo your hair and shampoo, your hair followed by a deep conditioner. Not co-washing- - a proper washday must consist of all of these steps
Think about this: 1) what are you achieving by "pre-pooing" with coconut oil, 2) what does "deep conditionings" do that coconut oil and water don't, 3) are you probably wasting time and money by repeating the same application/process?
@@caroln3564 clearly you don’t understand the concept of a pre-pool. If you are applying water (and or water and soap) to your hair on a regular basis to wash it, and or to refresh your curls, and you are not applying a (preferably coconut oil- based) pre-poo to your hair, you are inviting Hydro-fatigue. You are also missing the opportunity to nourish your scalp and proteinate and or moisturize your hair (to maintain the proper protein/ moisture balance). You are raising the chances of mechanical damage to the hair. a deep conditioner with ingredients that are going to penetrate the hair shaft after you have cleansed the hair and raised the cuticle of the hair, is going to impart nourishment into the strands, seal the shaft and restore proper Ph balance. No, I dont think its a waste of time all since i started pre-pooing my hair and my family’s and client’s hair, the condition of ALL of our hair has improved tremendously! Hair that was once high porosity now behaves much like normal porosity. Hair that was weak and breaking is now strong and retaining length. Hair that was frizzy, dull and impossible to define if now shiny, smooth perfectly defined curls/ coils. Scalps that were irritated and healthy. Hair that was constantly tangled, even after brushing now doesnt even need a brush to detangle. Hair follicles that had checked out have started growing hairs again… shall i continue with all the improvements in health, appearance, growth, retention and manageability??? Historically, throughout the world’s carious cultures, the ethnic sub-groups that are know for having the longest, healthiest hair that lasts up until old age ALL do some kind of pre-poo! Coconut oil, ayurvedic masks, rice water, olive water, aloe vera gel, Ethiopian dairy-based hair butter, chebe powder, the list goes on and on. Hopefully you are inspired to do some research and start taking better care of your hair and scalp. Peace. ✌🏾🫶🏾
@@cookiedoughmonstertravels4469 lovely it's worked for you, family and clients. I was just wondering if the "pre-poo" (which, if by limiting "hydra-fatigue" by not mixing with water and forming a "slick barrier" of sorts along the "cuticle") is not performing the same function as "deep conditioning" of "conditioning" (by trapping water in "cuticle") and "sealing the strand" (oil sitting on top of water). You could argue - "the shampoo washes away the pre-poo" - and I could counter argue - ""simply re-apply the "oil" after shampooing since the "deep conditioners" contain the same "oils and water" that you have "pre-pooed" with"". You could argue - ""deep conditioners have "hydrolised proteins"" and I would say - ""it's problably a "protein treatment" of sorts you need then and not a "deep conditioner"". My guess would be, your hair is doing great because you're using one or the other and not both. P.S. I also think the normal "conditioner" ((alternatively (stories for another day) your home remedies like Apple Cider, Aloe Vera)) should be sufficient for balancing the PH levels.
LOVE you girl!!! I don't know what these tiktok stylists talking about with the "no leave-in" 🤣Anyway, the best hair advice honestly are from you with the PMP method and Kimberly Cherelle, with the applying your leave in, in the shower.
For me the advice was do what works for you. If what you're doing doesn't work for you then don't do. There is no one size fits all. Thanks for all you do.
I deep conditioner once a week But I love rinsing my deep conditioner with a rosemary clove tea - then applying a leave in conditioner which I created myself
I haven't been loving my hair the past 3 yrs. I've been VERY stressed! I'm recovering from alopecia areata. I'm making a conscious effort to STRESS LESS! 🍵🍵 So my hair is growing back. I'm guilty of not deep condition often bc I leave my crochet in for a long time for work reasons. But I vow to do better. What do you recommend for detangling? That's the main reason why I hate wash days. When my hair was shorter, it didn't tangle much. But now that it's long..........
I like detangling my hair when I pre-poo, the oil makes it easy for me to comb my hair. Also, get a really good moisturizing detangling conditioner and take your time! Check out my holy Grail product video to see the conditioners that I recommend. ☺️
QUESTION When I use the Revair to dry my hair, do I still apply a leave-in? If so in which order do I apply it, when using keratin and a serum to protect it from the heat? Also should I use the keratin every time? Or is that too much protein? Thank you for all you great advice
Best advice...the right products for my low porosity hair. Your PMP was another gem. The herbal scalp & essential oil treatments. Finally, being very gentle with my hair and handling roots, middle and ends differently.
Clarify before using any new products, and use the full product line for a full 30 days before you say it doesn’t work- it may be you that’s the issue.
I’m curious y’all, when you need to deep condition do you use your regular conditioner first & rinse it out or do you only use deep conditioner that day?
No need to use both in the same wash day. Deep conditioning treatments don't need to follow a quick conditioner. Choose the one your hair needs the most each wash day - and save your products (and coins). 😊
Always deep condition first then rinse it out and use the rinse out conditioner after. After you rinse out your rinse out conditioner apply the leave in while your hair is damp and then follow up with a sealant like a heavy butter if you have high porosity hair or a light oil such as jojoba oil if you have low porosity hair. That’s what I do and it has been working for me over the years whether I’m natural or relaxed. Right now I’m relaxed and I still do the same thing, I’m low po and I used watery leave ins and jojoba oil to seal
The best hair advice I got was from YOU😊. Using the apple cider vinegar with the deep conditioner, really help my hair. Thank you. I still have dry hair issues, bit I am working on it❤
Can you break down the step where oil rinsing comes in when you deep condition? Should you oil rinse after deep condition and before leave in conditioner?

Aloe vera juice and water right out of the shower. Naptural85 taught me this and it changed my WHOLE hair hair regimen. I can tell when I don't use it. The curls don't pop and the whole style is dry and crunchy.
Best advice was to use warm water to rinse my low porosity hair rather than cold water. My hair absorbs product better and my hair isn’t hard after rinsing. Game changer!
My best advice was to deep condition with heat weekly & always apply my leave in conditioner in the shower. And it is true one time I didn’t & I saw the big difference.
Using a little face steamer for hair...😱 never would've thought about it but I'm currently using mine and loving the results
Prepoo and regular trims
Yes to those!!
Best advice I received, Keep heat styling tools off your hair as much as possible
I don't remember who it was on RUclips that recommended applying my leave-in in the shower.
I've been doing that, then waiting before continuing with my routine(sealing, etc)
Even though I'm high porosity, it helps to give my hair time to soak in the leave-in.
My hair still doesn't stay moisturized as long as I would like, but, it stays moisturized longer than it does when I apply the leave in after I get out of the shower
I seal when my hair is almost dry
Still damp, but no longer wet
Beat advice: keep your hair rountine simple and consistent
Great recommendations. I have CCCA type alopecia. My Dermatologist also recommendations deep conditioning my patchy scalp one a week.😊
Please tell us what deep conditioner you use? I need one badly.
What is the product name? Thanks 💜
Clean skalp is key to healty hair growth.
What is the truth?
this one, right here, was the best hair advice. I've been doing most of these all wrong. thanks so very much.
I love your videos, 2 years ago I loss a lot of my hair, because of stress and I am so glad that I found you. My hair is so healthy thank you. ❤
The best hair advice I have ever received is to do oil rinses.
The best hair care advice is ayurvedic herbs, consistency & diy treatments. This has changed my hair in the best way possible.
Love it! Thank you for sharing. ☺️
@@CurlyChemistryI still don't think you answered the question from a "chemistry" point of view.
Check it out on EWG....
Prepoo! Preepoo!
Think about this:
1) what are you achieving by "pre-pooing" with coconut oil,
2) what does "deep conditionings" do that coconut oil and water don't,
3) are you probably wasting time and money by repeating the same application/process?
Hi Tanya! What is your thought on deep conditioning first, then wash and then leave-in?
Great vid as always!
Best advice I've gotten so far would have to be "do what works for you".
Can you deep condition with a regular conditioner?
For me the advice was do what works for you. If what you're doing doesn't work for you then don't do. There is no one size fits all. Thanks for all you do.
I deep conditioner once a week
But I love rinsing my deep conditioner with a rosemary clove tea - then applying a leave in conditioner which I created myself
Thank you for sharing!
Warm coconut oil as a prepoo to remove tangles/detangle. God send!!! Will not do wash day without it.
QUESTION
When I use the Revair to dry my hair, do I still apply a leave-in? If so in which order do I apply it, when using keratin and a serum to protect it from the heat?
Also should I use the keratin every time? Or is that too much protein?
Thank you for all you great advice
Thanks for this. I also appreciate how succinct you were.
You’re welcome! 🤗
Best advice: put a plastic bag on after you apply leave in conditioner. I’ve noticed the difference in how my hair feels and I love it.
Use products! Best advice ever
quick question, for cream moisturizers is it ok to only use a leave in conditioner, or are curling/twisting butters actually important?
Best advice...the right products for my low porosity hair. Your PMP was another gem. The herbal scalp & essential oil treatments. Finally, being very gentle with my hair and handling roots, middle and ends differently.
As I've said in the past, the advice of acv for scalp health and hair smoothing but number two would be finger detangling.
Whattttt I could never just deep condition every two months. I weekly deep condition. Only every two months would not work for my hair.
Wash my hair more often to avoid build up!❤
The best advice I received was take your time detangling. If I’m in a hurry I’ll put off doing my hair.
The best hair advice I got was from YOU😊. Using the apple cider vinegar with the deep conditioner, really help my hair. Thank you.
I still have dry hair issues, bit I am working on it❤
First comment 😂❤❤ I plan to deep condition my hair tomorrow so this is coming at a good time 😊
Woo hoo! Perfect timing! 😀
Being patient ❤
Can you break down the step where oil rinsing comes in when you deep condition? Should you oil rinse after deep condition and before leave in conditioner?
What deep conditioners do you recommend for low porosity hair? I searched for a video, but couldn’t find one.
Hi Tonya. Just wanted to say that your channel has been a blessing to us all . And I wanted to ask . What are your thoughts on amla oil ?
Hey sis, I'm having problems with knots on my ends. Do u have a video on that issue?
Someone up-thread shared that detangling not w water but more of an oily product changed everything for her.
❤
@@macummings7818 I cut it all off, now it's growing back. I needed a new shampoo and conditioner
I agree completely. And I don't understand not using a good leave in for a silk press. Flowy hair for me = damaged hair eventually. Is it just me?😮
Is it ok to condition, then deep condition with heat and then use leave in?
All of your advice Ms. Tonya!
Great Teacher!
Prepooing with Babassu oil
