My game changer is being intentional and caring for my hair like a baby. It grows like crazy now that I am gentle and thoughtful. I just have to be disciplined on the regular maintenance schedule. Busy life with a 15 year old and a 1 year old that wants to sprint for the Olympics. Can you provide recommendations on clean toddler natural hair care and products?
I would like to testify that sectioning my hair is definitely a healthy part of my hair care routine. I also sleep in a satin bonnet and trim my spilt ends and single strand knots as I notice them. I try not to tear my hair ever. I stop and try to figure out how it is tangled before proceeding with the detangling process.
Also to point out, oils give nutrients to hair as well as coats. Hydration should come internally, drinking liquids, raw plant/fruit diet. I’ve learned to use oils in place of lotion for skin. I use tea or water when mixing in. Like hair products, lotion dries up worse than it began and makes skin dependent. Lotion and hair products just try to bind moisture with oils and butters and if I can do that without the added possible damaging chemicals... I’ve been learning that these market products can make hair fragile with certain ingredients so the product can penetrate and can cause damage to the hair. The healthier hair comes from folk who use less product and there’a more to it than them not needing it. What’s been helpful in moisture was spraying lavender and chamomile brewed water in my hair. I’m growing my own herbs and brew them for teas and skincare. I found that these acted like a softening refresher or a light leave in. The hydration lasted long as well. Then I found many women spraying lavender in their hair and enjoying the benefits. For oils my go to, is the obvious jojoba which mimics skin oil closer than other oils and absorbs very well. It’s actually more of a wax than an oil structurally. I use this predominantly with small portions of other oils like avocado, coconut and almond. If you are going to put an oil in your hair, it should be small amount. I also notice we drown our hair in oil, in the way use market moisturizers and that’s also a mistake. If you wouldn’t do it for your skin, you probably shouldn’t do that for your hair, depending on your skins dryness level. The good ole water and grease was on to something. Water and oil can have great results with tweaking and not over-saturating. I also learned that dryness isn’t normal either. Check the products you are using, look into the ingredients and figure out what works but your hair. My dry scalp with 3b-3c hair, at medium porosity does not prefer the extra stuff. I find my teas more helpful. Also my sons locs are growing like crazy , out of nowhere since I started making my own herbal sprays. Thank you so much for helping me learn my natural hair more, I appreciate you 🌹❤️
Hey Tonya. Can you do a video on how to keep straight hair moisturized between washes (if that's even possible since water is moisture) cause the winter months are coming and some of us will be straightening our hair??
Shea butter and beeswax. I use the LOC method, but the butter feels like it evaporate by the next morning, so I use beeswax to lock everything in. Pre-pooing overnight before washing my hair as well.
My hair loves steam. I incorporate steam in my pre poo or whenever I need to detangle. My hair also loves Etae’s Carmel treatment. Leaves my hair very moisturized.
My game changer in keeping my hair moist is using a clarifying shampoo for my first wash, then using design essentials honey creme shampoo and conditioner and sealing with a hair grease ( carol’s daughter mimosa honey).
Deep conditioning Especially when I first started this natural hair journey.i definitely notice the difference when I didn't at all..as well as products that detangles well
Mine is Ivie...this moisturizer loves my high porosity thin hair. The ingredients are amazing in this cream and I love that it has fenugreek and MSM in it
Using Bentonite Clay once a year before I was wash my hair has been a game changer for me aswell. My hair has a nice shine to it, and I found it much easier to run the comb through it, without having to fight with my hair lol.
Melanin Leave-in Conditioner and Melanin Hair Oil, also Ecoslay Banana Conditioner. Steaming and then applying leave in, let absorb a few minutes then seal. If I do this after shampooing my hair stays moisturized for at least 3- 4 days.
My game changer is hemp oil... I've tried avocado, oil, sweet almond, jojoba, castor... They were all "meh", but hemp seed is the truth! This alongside thwith the camille rose coconut leave-in. I'm high/medium porosity btw
My game changer has been sealing with Blue Magic. My mom used Ultra Sheen when I was growing up. It was good but Blue Magic works much better on my hair.
Could you please do a tutorial on natural grey hair care. How to strengthen grey brittle hair, retain length and how tame wiry fly aways. Thank you and God bless.
I've been adding s. curl gel with lot's of glycerin in it and sealing with Ors hair lotion. It's keeping my strands hydrated near a week with less breakage on wash day.
Tonya the divine indeed!!! 😍 So many game changers for retaining moisture helped me! 1) No bleach; 2) LBG: Leave-in + Botanical + Gel; 3) prepoo & DIY; 4) not letting my med-to-hi po hair stay wet for too long; 5) not pushing my washdays past the dryness limit; 6) discovering that while it's ok for me in moderation, I can't load up on too much aloe, coconut, & flax; 7) using moisturizing shampoos; 8) diffusing on cool with some nice veeedeos to pass the looong time it takes!!! 😂 Thanks, beauty, & have a lovely weekend!!! xo 😘
I am so glad i subscribed to your channel because you not only give tips but use science to explain why we should do certain things and that is just everything to me. I can't believe this is free information. Thank you.
I’ve recently used henna hair dye and my hair has been seeming softer, shinier, defined etc. And Im not sure if it’s the henna alone or if it’s all the weekly deep conditioning finally catching up….
I'm still scared to use oils for anything besides a hot oil treatment BUT I tried grease recently on just my ends for a braid out then I used it for mini twists my scalp did not itch nor flake like with oil, frizz left me. shine & retained moisture came in for a month.😍 I've noticed grease washes out more easily than oil for me 🤔. Sectioning the hair makes styling, detangling, washing and conditioning so much faster.
I am planning to get my hair done for the first time with added hair. The style will be a passion twist crochet install. I have medium to low density, super fine stranded, high porosity, 3c hair. Question the Cardi B DIY is it good? Meaning as a moisturizer? Banana. Avocado. Honey. Mayo. Argan oil. Vitamin E oil. Jojoba oil. Olive oil and blend.
My game changer was technique. I now comb/brush FROM THE ROOT to tip after thoroughly detangling. As I apply product, I brush it through to make sure every strand is coated. I also have learned to put my product all the way from root to tip... like for real. And I wasn't using enough product. When I tell you game changer? I mean my hair grew 3/4" in just under one month! All I changed was technique - Not product. My hair is thriving and beautiful! Oh. And I seal with Mimosa Hair Honey. Boom! :)
After shampoo I use a mizani miracle milk leave in I use a t44z hair food to lock in the moisture It ll stay Moisturiser for 5days before starting the whole process again.
I swear by bentonite clay and gelatin weekly when it comes to moisturizing my hair. I don't know why, but my hair is prone to becoming over moisturized even though it's low porosity, so on damp hair (usually done with a spray bottle of water and some tea tree oil) I apply a homemade oil mix (usually coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, and occasionally carrot or avocado oil, infused with a bunch of stimulating herbs like rosemary, ginseng, peppermint, fenugrek and too many more to list) and let it sit for 20 mins or so before applying bentonite clay mixed with acv, aloe, marshmallow root powder, more lavender and tea tree oil and more oil mix. The oil seems to help make my hair slightly less hydrophilic, and the clay cleanses my hair without stripping it and loosens up my curl pattern slightly. After I rinse that out I mix a tbs of gelatin with a bit of water until it starts to bloom, then add in about a half cup of conditioner, apply that and let it sit a bit, then rinse it with tea and water (I read somewhere that tea rinses help restore the hairs natural ph, but honestly I just do it because I like pouring jasmine tea on my head, lol). The gelatin not only serves as a source of protein, but also significantly reduces the amount of frizz. It sounds like a lot but I can get away with moisturizing my hair throughout the week a lot less, and as well as it works on my type 4 hair, it also works wonders on type 3 hair as well (I did it to a friend's type 3 hair and she was super pleased with the results). Then I moisturize with a light leave in, and seal with Black seed oil and sulfur 8 grease or the Coconut blue magic. It's definitely a weekend thing, but having a spa day for your hair is a nice way to fit in some self care while doing something necessary and beneficial for your hair health. I've done it for probably at least 5 years and have never had as moisturized or shiny hair in my life until I started doing this!
A game changer for me was sealing with oils. My hair loves avocado oil as a sealant and I use coconut oil as a prepoo. Can you please do a video on the best ways to keep hair moisturized in the up coming cold months for those of us in colder climates? It can be an extension on this and please, please, please speak more on humectants for winter and the best way to use them. I have seen others speak on aloe vera as a humectant but how do I use it in NYC in the winter?
@@Aish115 after I moisturize my hair I put oil on top of the moisturizer to seal in that moisture. My roots get dry quickly so I make sure I coat them well with a moisturizing lotion or cream and the seal it well with oil, or hair grease, or Shea butter.
Thanks Tonya. What is the best time of the day for moisturizing the hair? I find that when I do it at night just before bedtime, wake up the next morning with my hair looking dry again as my satin scarf slides off during sleep and also slide away from the pillow with a satin case.
Try getting a satin hair bonnet that has an adjustable strap or one that you can tie, this works for me as it keeps my bonnet on and helps to keep in the moisture longer
My holy grail leave-in/moisturizer is from the dollar tree (Who Knew!). My hair ❤️ the Salon Selectivea Frizz control leave-in (blue and white tube). It delivers an Entire experience Each and Every time I use it! It plays nicely with any other products I use as well (butters, oils, grease or moisturizers). Can't say enuf about this stuff!
Design Essentials Daily Curl Revitalizing Spray adds great moisture especially when using gels. It tends to soften the crunch of the gel while maintaining the definition of the curl and moisturizing at the same time. It is great I love it!
Blessings everyone I have one pet -peeve about all this hair car tips etc., back in the day we had very long hair and we never had to do all these things that we are doing today we washed dry, greased and hot comb pressed our hair if that's what we wanted as a style and this was the norm. U just want something very simple as a routine I think less is better.
Awesome video 👍 I started using an oil pre-poo but I heat it up before I use it so my LP hair can absorb it better. Also I’m incorporating a curling cream in my wash ‘n’ go routine and not just jumping straight to gel after applying my Leave-in. Game changers 😀
Hi, I was wondering if you could do a video on how is the best way to get your hair detangled so you don't lose a lot of hair and time. My last wash day I decided to finally make sure I have clean parts. That took the entire day. Please give any tips you can.
Steaming has changed the game for me. I steam in my deep conditioner, and after rinsing and towel drying for about 15-20 mins, I spray aloe vera juice (homemade) and use whatever leave-in I choose that wash day, because it may be homemade or store bought depending on if I have homemade readily available, and I put on a shower cap and sit under the dryer about 10-20 mins. My hair's completely hydrated and moisturized after that. I deep condition every wash day. I then add my cream (TGIN Daily Moisturizing Cream) and my homemade whipped butter, which changes ingredients depending upon what my hair needs that wash day. I typically braid my hair in cornrows and leave it alone for up to 3 weeks. I'll oil my scalp, but my hair's still moisturized when I do decide to wash it again. And because I can stretch wash days by up to 10 more days than normal, my hair's really grown so much more too. I had lots of breakage in my crown section, and it's growing out FAST because I'm mostly leaving it alone. I'm low porosity and once that moisture is in for me, it's really in there!
So I flat iron my hair, (easier to maintain throughout the week) is there any way to moisturize my hair without it getting all frizzy and curly after 2 days?
I think the game changer for retaining moisture has been not being afraid to wet my hair daily or every other day. Once I obtained a good protein moisture balance my hair started to sort of redefine itself after I’d wet it in the shower or with a spray bottle.
Hi! First, thanks for the recommendations. I use aloe vera gel (lily of the desert) , leave in (mielle pomegranate and honey) and I let it sit in with a plastic bag for a couple minutes.
It is normal that my hair with high porosity does not like any oil I have already tried jojoba, olive, coconut, almond oil, grapeseed oil when I put any oil or butter my hair gets very hard and I have to use a clarifying shampoo 🥺

I have recently started using grease properly. For years I was applying it incorrectly but now, thanks to people like yourself, I find my tresses looking lushious and moisturised healthy and long, like yours, only shorter. Thanks for all the great advice.
You’re so welcome! Hair grease is a game changer. ☺️
How do you use grease now?
@@taneishajohnson3790 I apply it when doing my wash and goes. A small fingernail amount on a quarter section of wet hair and brush it through. This keeps my hair moisturised for days with no need to reapply water or grease. Check out Lauren Leigh 11 on youtube. She has loads of ideas and solutions on what to do using pommade/grease
@@yvonnestarr8933 Thank you. I will try doing that and check that channel too. Is there one grease brand you recommend over another?
@@taneishajohnson3790 I spritz aloe Vera mixed with a little water and conditioner and apply Dax hair grease. It stayed moisturised for days. My twists are plump and HP fine hair looks healthy.
Defintely seen improvements in moisture and overall hair health since I introduced ayurveda into my regimen!
Same!
Me too!
💯
what do you use?
@@angelini.NC. The herbs I primarily use as of late are hibiscus, fenugreek, neem, moringa, and sometimes henna
Game changer for me was when I started seeing my ends daily and soak them nightly with my organic amla oil and every morning my end mimick a fresh cut even though it's been months since I've trimmed😊😉
Aloe vera changed my hair from thinning and a dry, lifeless appearance to thicker, healthier, bouncy and moisturized. I grow my own. Also periodic use of straight onion juice. By the way I have salt and pepper natural hair worn in loose twists mostly.
I’ve started using your PMP method and alternating with scalp massages with oil. I think it is working well for me so far
Great to know!!! I am old fashion! Water and hair grease works best for me!!
I love using hair grease as sealant twist looks fantastic
My hair and I are LOVING the Blue Magic hair grease. Makes all the difference!!! Better curls, definition, and seals in the moisture like crazy!!! Thank you for confirming what was in my spirit!
I want to get back to using grease. What is your regimen and how do you use the grease? Like do you spray your hair with water first then grease ect
@@Shrimp459 I use the LCO method. I make my own leave in, use Shea Moisture curl smoothie as my moisturizer, then seal with Blue Magic Coconut Oil (it's the white and blue jar). For reference, I have type 4b, high porosity, coarse, and super dense hair.
@@CinemaDoll137 oh wow ok. I have the Blue Magic coconut and the Blue magic Indian hemp. I'm high porosity too but don't know hair type but I do have fine strands. Is the leave in really necessary if your using a moisturizing curl cream? I always feel like one or the other will do when it comes to those 2 product's
@@Shrimp459 for me, it is. I can't just apply cream to dry hair. I have to at least wet it with water.
@@CinemaDoll137 oh yes you absolutely have to wet the hair. I'm not talking about wetting it I'm talking about using leave in AND a moisturizing cream together. I usually use one or the other
Keeping a routine and understanding my hair needs to be moisturised every couple of days
Sectioning 👀👀👀🤣🤣 I tried to avoid it because it’s exhausting. But my hair behaves soooo much better
I know the feeling! It can be time consuming, but so worth it!
Going back to grease has been a game changer for me 🙏🏼 I have thick high density LP hair and moisturizing wasn’t too much of a problem for me but retaining that moisture was hard until I found a good sealant (thanks to the PMP method video).
Thank you so much for helping me learn my natural hair more, I appreciate you 🌹❤️
You’re so welcome!! 🥰
Grease has been an absolute life saver to me I will never give it up again
Hi love, what’s the PMP method?
My coarse low porosity hair strands love olive oil, honey🍯and hair grease. 😌👌🏾
Deep conditioning Especially when I first started this natural hair journey.i definitely notice the difference when I didn't at all..as well as products that detangles well
Great tip!
Mine is Ivie...this moisturizer loves my high porosity thin hair. The ingredients are amazing in this cream and I love that it has fenugreek and MSM in it
Where did you purchase it?
Using Bentonite Clay once a year before I was wash my hair has been a game changer for me aswell. My hair has a nice shine to it, and I found it much easier to run the comb through it, without having to fight with my hair lol.
Melanin Leave-in Conditioner and Melanin Hair Oil, also Ecoslay Banana Conditioner. Steaming and then applying leave in, let absorb a few minutes then seal. If I do this after shampooing my hair stays moisturized for at least 3- 4 days.
Tanya! could you please do a video on different hair breakage (crown, nape, edges, etc.)?
Yesss! That’s a great topic. 😆
And how to deal with different porosities/ textures on one head.
Thx, I appreciate the context you bring!
Two questions. 1. Can we re-moisturize a wash and go? 2. Can we re-moisturize after sealing? Would the oil block the new moisture?
Can you please do a video about hair thickness and thinness? You are one of the RUclipsrs I trust love your content about natural hair thanks 🙏
😂 Thanks, beauty, & have a lovely weekend!!! xo 😘
Thank youuu for sharing! 🥰
I am so glad i subscribed to your channel because you not only give tips but use science to explain why we should do certain things and that is just everything to me. I can't believe this is free information. Thank you.
S curl is a good moisturizer for me.
I’ve recently used henna hair dye and my hair has been seeming softer, shinier, defined etc. And Im not sure if it’s the henna alone or if it’s all the weekly deep conditioning finally catching up….
I'm still scared to use oils for anything besides a hot oil treatment BUT I tried grease recently on just my ends for a braid out then I used it for mini twists my scalp did not itch nor flake like with oil, frizz left me. shine & retained moisture came in for a month.😍
I've noticed grease washes out more easily than oil for me 🤔.
Sectioning the hair makes styling, detangling, washing and conditioning so much faster.
Same here! I love grease
I am planning to get my hair done for the first time with added hair. The style will be a passion twist crochet install. I have medium to low density, super fine stranded, high porosity, 3c hair. How does one moisturize their hair while in protective style? I have no clue about any of it, but am excited and don’t want my hair to dry out as it does so very quickly. Thanks for any help!
Just spray water in the partitions, then seal with a good oil to retain moisture.

Whats the difference between moisturiser and conditioner? Can I moisturise with a conditioner? Do I need both?
My game changer is definitely ayurveda. The strengthening treatments help my high porosity hair retain moisture for longer. Also using teas in place of water also helps 👌🏾
could do a video on how to moisturize the hair between washdays?
Can u plz make a tutorial video on how to moisturize the scalp? Im having trouble with that
Pre-pooing, co-washing instead of shampooing too often and deep conditioning has helped me with retaining moisture
Please help i am mixed raced and my hair is always frizzy,i just started aunti jackie and castor oil, and wow i frizz after two hours .dont know what to do
Steaming under a hooded steamer and adding Ayurveda into my regimen has been the game changer for me.
I wonder what’s the difference between leave in and moisturizer.
And whether I should use liquid sprays or creams to moisturize my hair .
Question the Cardi B DIY is it good? Meaning as a moisturizer?
Banana. Avocado. Honey. Mayo. Argan oil. Vitamin E oil. Jojoba oil. Olive oil and blend.
I have used a blend of all these minus mayo as a deep moisturizing conditioner and my hair loves it.
@@arethareynolds302 thank you for letting me know. How long do you leave the moisturizer in your hair
Boom! :)
After I do my LOC method, I wear a conditioning cap for about 15 to 20 minutes to lock in the moisture.
Just on time with a new video when I'm about to wash my hair
Thank you 😭❤️❤️
Yayyyy! Enjoy!
After shampoo
I use a mizani miracle milk leave in
I use a t44z hair food to lock in the moisture
It ll stay Moisturiser for 5days before starting the whole process again.
5:12 For the list of hair oils for the different high and low hair porosities.
Glycerin has been a game changer for my hair.
Glycerin is great!
I have seen others speak on aloe vera as a humectant but how do I use it in NYC in the winter?
doesn’t coconut oil dry your scalp out?
@@kenisha6262 I don't put it on my scalp, just on my hair.
ok, i might try that
How do you seel your hair with oil? Like when it’s wet? Or dry? After leave in, curling cream and gel? Or when? I struggle with the steps :/
@@Aish115 after I moisturize my hair I put oil on top of the moisturizer to seal in that moisture. My roots get dry quickly so I make sure I coat them well with a moisturizing lotion or cream and the seal it well with oil, or hair grease, or Shea butter.
Is blue magic conditioning hair dress put on dry hair or freshly washed hair
Thank you for this video.. I’m luvin Almond and Avocado oil 🥰💙💕
I'm a short natural so curl activator works well for moisturizing my hair.

Ur hair is gorgeous...can u please tell me what hair you used for that style....and are they twist?
When do you need to put the oil? In what order? On wet hair or dry hair?
Grate for you. Your knowledge sharing has made an incredible difference in my hair journey. Thank you.
It is normal that my hair with high porosity does not like any oil I have already tried jojoba, olive, coconut, almond oil, grapeseed oil when I put any oil or butter my hair gets very hard and I have to use a clarifying shampoo 🥺

Can I put a couple drops of peppermint oil or eucalyptus in my water diluted conditioner spray ?
Is beeswax great for your hair and scalp.
I tried the oatmeal hair rinse and that made a real difference in my hair. Will start using that rinse more often. Question, is this a protein rinse.
