Also while I wash my scalp 2-3 times a month while my hair is in twists, I only finger detangling once a month. I have fine 4c hair, but a lot of it and I realized early on that my hair was growing, I was just not retaining length mainly for this reason of feeling like my hair needed to be 100% detangling all the time, but also because I was doing all that rough brush detangling while my hair was weak from over washing with sulfate shampoos. My hair is a lot more softer, durable and manageable now that it’s coated with sebum and the process of removing shed hairs has become easier. 5. I do inversion method at the end of every month with a blend of anti-inflammatory oils and herbs proven to promote hair growth and natural DHT blockers. I could NEVER be without my oils! This is definitely a 'do what works for you' community for sure. This year, I had to stop using thick products. I just realized my medium density, super fine strands just did not benefit from them. Especially deep conditioners. @@mfonix Hi! I dibble and dab from a few brands that have light weight, super moisturizing products. Right now I am using products: Oyin handmade Curl Origin Uniqurl Then my lightweight oils are Jojoba, Grapeseed and Moringa!
@@ChimereTrielle Thanks a lot.😊 Never used any of those brands and moringa oil. Been on Ayurvedic recipes and the other oils mentioned. Camille rose and soultanicals are my current brands.
@@mfonix i have used both and love them both too! I particularly used the soultanicals glide n go fenugreek deep conditioner and the Camille rose moisture milk. I used to deem the moisture milk too thick for my hair but i have been experimenting with using indirect heat to warm up the product prior to using and it makes a world of difference! Some of my products aren’t nearly as thick as i thought they were. They were just cold!
I had to stop not paying attention to my hair. I was literally taking it for granted until it started to leave. At that point it had my full attention and now we are happy again.
I am asian but i still love your channel! In my experience coconutn oil did clog my scalp so much after just a few tries that my hair was falling like CRAZY! So even tho every article told me to try it, youre right!
Girl I had to stop putting my oils on my scalp. I do a mix of argon, coconut, amla and jojoba with rosemary and peppermint. I have seborrheic dermatitis and my derm was on my case. I finally accidentally did not apply while travelling and saw a huge difference in the condition of my scalp.
Thank you for addressing stress. It is very important. Many people have stressful jobs or stressful situations that can have physical as well as psychological consequences.
I had to stop 1. Putting extensions in my hair & 2. Stop listening to everyone else & go old school. I'm literally doing my Mom's method w/products my hair likes & now after 1.5yrs I finally see my old thickness.
I am recently learning to take better care of my natural hair. My hair is very thick and gets very dry and the ends are brittle and is no stranger to shrinkage😞! I know one thing I had to 🛑was leaving my hair out especially when I sleep.
I had to stop: 1) Listening to everyone’s suggestions of products to use & observe my hair instead (product junkie) 2) sleeping with conditioner overnight 3) LEARN MY HAIR (porosity/density) 4) limit protein because my hair doesn’t care for it much 5) over-manipulation Bonus: stop allowing people in my head & learned how to do mine because everybody don’t love your hair like you do & jealousy is real 😒
Lately I don't like my natural hair much, it's sore when I detangle... I am still testing products that could help... 4C, dry, knotty hair... But I am learning from u each time
I had to start using my fingers first before I use a seamless wide tooth comb. Then I also have to make sure I saturate my hair completely (with water) before I prepoo it makes a difference. Love your channel I'm learning a lot!!!
@@allisond4916 I live in Jamaica, so it can be found in Chinese clothes store. They sell more than just clothes. The Beauty Supply should have as well.
I had to stop relaxing my hair. My hair was getting thinner and thinner. So after months of watching natural hair videos and doing research i am now natural. Big chop in March and loving my curls. Thanks for all the info!
My relaxed hair was always thin and my natural hair is always thick looking and feeling. lol! I spent far too much time trying to get some volume in my relaxed hair. It was just limp, flat and lifeless. We want that bodee oddy oddy.
I used to wear my hair in flat twists as a protective style but my hair tangled up while trying to twist it and I didn't realize it was breaking. I was also constantly brushing it to keep it "laid." Surprisingly, my hair grows more doing wash n gos
Lately, my hair has become very thin, and I don't know why. It would be great if you could do a video on how to reverse thinning hair, if that's possible. Every night I stand up, bent over at the waist and massage my scalp. It feels so, so, good! Thank you for all your knowledge on hair care. Your hair is so thick and beautiful. I look forward to your video's!
Definitely check your blood work and lifestyle choices. I see a personal trainer one day a week. I take hair vitamins daily. I take multi-vitamins and minerals daily. I use protein deep treatments, moisture treatments and Olaplex on a weekly rotation. I shampoo with a scalp shampoo every week because I have a sensitive scalp. I moisturise daily. I no longer use long term protective styles. I do twists, flat twisted and 2 or 3 french braids and take them down every week to detangle, shampoo and deep condition. I use seamless combs to detangle damp, deep conditioned hair with a leave-in detangler and a leave-in conditioner applied. I'm 40 in a week and I'm a thalassemia carrier so those things work against my hair too.
I usually don't post a reply but had to share my experience...due to stress a couple years ago (caring for a family member fighting cancer), my hair thinned so bad in just a matter of a few months. I was so shocked and disappointed. I had spent 3 years growing my natural hair and taking good care of it but it only took a few months to set me wayback. I dont believe in quick fixes, I think time and consistent effort and high quality natural hair products are the key but I must say I started taking collagen powder and within a couple months I saw a significant difference in the thickness of my hair and today my hair is the thickest it has ever been and yes I continue to take collagen every day. Its the one thing I swear by and its because it truly has worked wonders in stimulating my hair to regrow right away. I think its underrated.
@@lexilomax4986 Stress is absolutely terrible. I have to take psychotropic medication but I also exercise and use therapy skills to manage my stress. I hope the family member is better now.
I had to accept the fact any shampoo weekly was to much for my hair and scalp! Though I sweat daily in my scalp I have learned shampoo once a month and clay mixes the other weeks has been a positive change for me. Holding more moisture and less scalp inflammation and itching!!! Oils and butters to seal my strands is the only way for me to battle breakage!! Even with low porosity my strains love butters!!!
I had to STOP trying to blow dry my hair. I am NOT good at that. That's also why I can't wait for your video on how not to damage our hair with heat. Thanks, Tonya, for yet another great vid.
LMFAO same. I’m a guy but I would blow dry my hair every day and of course I had to cut it after a year from split ends and breakage. It was horrible but I use a microfiber towel now.
I had to stop 🛑 wearing wigs thinning my edges!love my natural hair and stop dyeing my hair with box dyes drying and damaging and stop stressing leave in Gods Hand🙌
Rocking my puff 😐 my right edge was starting to thin out... now we rock the deep side part with two twist to the back! Sulfur 8 has my edges growing back strong 💪🏾 😌
I mess with my hair all day long. No issues at all. Heck, if I get hot I put it in a ponytail. When I need my scalp to be free and relaxed I take the ponytails out. I am constantly rubbing on my scalp then distributing the natural oils down the shaft. Keeps my hair soft and silky. I like running my fingers thru it and the way it feels. Relaxing, extremely relaxing. I do braid it at nite and take them out in the morning for freedom.
I no longer use products with glycerin. Since I live in a high humid area (dew point seems to stay above 60) for at least half of the year if not more (Long Island, NY), glycerin wreaks complete havoc on my hair. So none of my products have glycerin (or any humectants really). My go-to brand is Nature's Little Secret. I love their Irish Moss Cream and Banana Leave-in. Their cucumber shampoo is also heavenly as it is gentle on my hair and cleans without removing my hair's natural oils. I also do Ayurvedic treatments (henna & indigo; hibiscus & fenugreek with marshmallow root & aloe vera, etc.
I am prone to stress and anxiety, and I use tea and aromatherapy to help me manage. I love ashwagandha, lavender and chamomile teas. Ashwagandha is an ayurvedic herb you can use on your hair and it has been shown to reduce the levels of the stress hormone called cortisol. And lavender reduces anxiety levels. I've also heard that St John's Wort is good but you have to be careful if you're taking prescription meds like anti-depressants. And for arometherapy I like diffusing patchouli, rosemary and peppermint oils. I also want to get serious again with yoga. I used to do it weekly until life caught up with me.
I had to stop stressing about my hair growth.....now as I look back, as a child my hair was always braided and always pulled in a ponytail....so Yes I've developed traction Alopecia. I've just simply cut it all Off and died basically my scalp and I Love It! You are Awesome my dear, keep up the good work and content...I'm learning alot from you.
Something that I had to stop doing is changing my protective style and rebranding my hair so much. I am definitely someone who likes to change their hair every week or two.
That's why I am careful who I subscribe to or follow on RUclips not everyone knows what there doing. I had to learn that not because it works for other ppl, that means it's gonna work for you. Started my journey last yr n I seeing some results, it's slow but I c some results none the less. Hoping to c much more results going forward.
I had to stop over saturating my hair with water. My hair is low porosity and takes an incredibly long time to air dry. I also have a bad dandruff problem which the excess moisture may have been making worse. 😊I has to START doing some things really such as protein treatments, prepooing, etc. How do you feel about black seed oil, hemp seed oil or black castor oil ?
I had to stop 2 strand twisting my hair then finger combing through my hair on wash day because it causes my hair to tangle and mat during the washing process. So now I have to take down my twists and apply my pre poo coconut oil to each section and detangle my hair with my wide tooth comb slowly and carefully.
Thank you so much for sharing 🥰💙💕.. I had to stop rushing when doing my hair .. now I don’t care what is going on when it’s my wash day .. that is my time to take care and nourish my hair 🥰
Hey my sister. Thank you for your informative videos. I had to stop wash and go, the use of heavy creams and having my hands in my hair. I put my hair in a protective style 3 weeks ago and have seen a vast improvement in the quality of my fine hair along with growth.
For me, I didn’t not to stop doing anything but being lazy. I needed to get back to my old hair care routine that had me grow my hair waist length when I was relaxed and then again when I went natural. A few years ago I decided to rock a tapered style and since I was getting my hair cut every 2 weeks, I wasn’t doing my normal upkeep. I continued that same laziness of not washing and deep conditioning, regular moisturizing after I decided to grow my hair back out and that was a mistake. I just started to get some act right with my hair and it’s responding. The main thing that I’m doing THAT WORKS FIR ME is weekly hot oil treatments. My hair loves it!
Love your videos for myself and my little mama. Can you tell me why my scalp gets so darn sore even if I put my hair in a loose protective style. After a day or two my scalp hurts? Thanks in advance.
I had to stop using large proteins and also gels for my wash and gos. However I may take a break from wash and gos to see if it changes the amount of split ends that I get. Great video, as always.
I Love your video and wanted to say “Thank You” fir all the information you provide. I would like to ask if you could talk about how to take care of gray hair. Thanks.
THANK you!!! Needed this for hair in my TEMPLES. I think the problem has been CREAMS on my scalp I the temple area clogging the pores. I purchased Carol's daughter aloe shampoo which thoroughly cleans the scalp and other products you've mentioned. Hair is coming back in the temple area...now some TIME. THANK you SOOOO much! You are TRULY a BLESSING!!!
WNGs had to go as well for me too. Only occasionally do but maybe once a month if that. I prefer twist styles or twist outs as less friction on my individual hair strands and my hair stays moisturized longer too. 🙏🏿
What I stopped doing is pineappling my hair on top of my head every night I have and it was pulling and tugging on my edges so now I still tie my hair up at night but I sleep with it down instead of up I have noticed a difference nobody got no time for no edges girl lol
Hi Sherri Dee! I am a 50+ menopausal women; I started using unflavored collagen powder with Vitamin C-- in my coffee every morning. It has helped a lot with my skin and hair. I started seeing results in about 30-45 days.
I use to drink this stuff called Vemma.(looked like tomato juice).helped my hair get thicker but no longer is made. I take hair vitamins and folic acid tablets plus drink Mother Milk tea 3 times aweek. My hair grew when put in a weave for abut 6 weeks. I do like wigs but seems my hair on top gets thin so stopped. Now wear it natural using the LOC (liquid oil conditioner) method each nite with product Virgin Hair fertilizer stuff. I have a very stressful life and thin spot on top of head...cannot get rid of it. Thank you for your help
I love your content and somehow i trust every word that comes out of your mouth, very useful information, could you possibly make a video for men's hair?
@@CurlyChemistry thank you for your reply! Like a video on how man can properly wash their hair safely, ik there’s plenty content on yt but they’re all always sponsored in some way so Idk how to take that ahah
Thank you so much for the info on the oil for scalp. I will check my scalp oils and adjust. I had some health issues and abandoned my hair, it started thinning badly, but I am back to taking care of it, hoping it gets back to normal.
Hi have you done a video on the 'no raw oil/no raw butter' trend that is being discussed at the moment. I would really welcome your scientific perspective and views.
I live in FL so wash n gos have been my go to since every other style instantly frizzes out thanks to 1000% humidity 🙄 but my hair has broken off soooooo much b/c of it and I didn’t realize until it was too late and I had to cut off 4” of split/ dead ends. I literally NEVER get split ends. And ALWAYS deep condition & do protein treatments as needed. So now I guess I will just add more gel to my twist/ braids out & hope for the best even though I LOVE the wash n go look & convenience 😩
I had to stop going to bed without a bonnet or any moisturizing products at night even though I sleep on satin pillow cases. I have low porosity super fine hair and those fairy knots like to take advantage of my unprotected hair at night. So even though my hair grows I'm constantly cutting 2 inches of damaged hair. I also use mustard seed oil to stimulate blood flow to my scalp. It's super light too.
I have to double up the protection ( scarf/ bonnet, nightly moisturising and satin pillow case) because....I sleep wild. Lol! sometimes I even pin my scarf or bonnet to my head to make sure it doesn't come off. smh. high maintenance hair.
I’ve noticed wash n gos are damaging my ends as well. When I go for a trim I lose length. I’m curious to know what alternative styles you’re doing now.
What do you recommend to help with the inflammation on the scalp? I don’t put anything on my scalp and I don’t put too much tension on my hair but sometimes in certain areas my scalp will hurt for no reason😖
I had to stop touching my hair so much. I'm just starting this journey and I would style my hair every day or every other day. I learned how has that is and that I actually like my hair better after day 3. 😌
This is so important and so well said - thanks Tonya! Stress has been at unprecedented levels in our lives & in the world. What has stopped... several things but the most basic is that I had to stop bleaching. xo 🌸🌸🌸
What oils on the scalp for high porosity thin fine hair are you recommending? Please share. . .. Most of my DIY hair products first ingredient is coconut oil..
If stress was a person....🥴 Whew Chile! In grad school, working full time, hubby works, and three kids in with full sports schedules. 🙃. But I had to let coconut oil go. My crown rejects it like the plaegue 😂 It was great when I was younger, but I definitely noticed a difference in my hair and skin after pregnancy. I wash my hair once a week as part of my self care. It's either that or spending hours at Target 😂🤷🏿♀️
My scalp is always dry and itchy. I also have an area where the hair grows through the scalp but it's thin and easily broken. Anything that can help. Also I have a relaxer
I don't know that anything was harming my hair and hopefully this is not but for the entire pandemic time, I have not styled my hair. I will undo the braids to moisturize and then normally if I go out I wear a head wrap or a wig. I've only worn a wig about 3 times to funerals the other funerals were live-streamed. I was locked in for quite a while so when I'm indoors I do not have a head wrap on and I tried to let my scalp breathe.
Yaaay I finally got to sit down and watch this video! Today's my wash day. As always I love your content. As far as my stoppage, I stop doing washing n go's. They didn't work for me away. I didn't know what I was doing wrong. Fine with me, twist outs are Bae I also started being faithful to my teas 🍵 I alternate between BBO's green tea and witch hazel tea. I 100% I can see the difference in my shedding and my scalp health
Had to stop getting into lazy phases with my hair, my hair grows really well but I just had to cut off about two inches due to breakage in the middle 😭 but we’re back and working on it
Can you do a video on how to take care of your hair if you are a swimmer, I swim 3 times a week and wash my hair every time after swimming, but I feel like I need a better understanding on how to take care of it if I swim 🙏🏽
I recently tried to not wash out all the conditioner from my hair.... it was a nightmare. There was some crusty stuff left back and for the first time since I started washing my hair in twists it was tangled as hell. Definitely not doing that again
@@BellaHairCare4u I think it depends on the ingredients. There is a conditioner that I use as a leave in because the consistency and ingredients are very similar to leave ins I've used before
trim/dust your ends. Moisturise daily. Deep condition with heat weekly. keep your hair stretched. Keep your hair in a protective style. Olaplex. Those things helped my hair.
I had to stop using anything that had coconut or coconut oil. I was breaking out in rashes on my face, neck, and on my scalp. So much question would be, with the pre-poo the other oils that you had mentioned are they in the same family as coconut?
As long as you're just applying it to your hair only and keeping it away from your face it should be fine as a pre-poo because you're going to wash it out.
same I just stopped using oils and butters altogether as recommended and diagnosed by my trichologists. Professionals who have seen, felt and analysed my scalp and hair. I didn't stop due to the latest natural hair trend for no oils and butters.
Great video 👍 stress is a real issue for me 😬. I had to stop doing pre-poos it just added to the build up already on my hair 🤷♀️ Wash days are much easier for me now 😊
@@jackywairegi2316 I can only use it as a pre-poo on my hair and then thoroughly shampoo my scalp. I use a 25c/50p sized amount of the Olaplex Oil no. 7 once a week on my hair only. Nothing more than that. My trichologists gave me scalp spray and a scalp gel so they work.
I recently had to stop doing wash and go as well and really curly styles like rod sets. Maybe it's the products I'm using. I noticed a lot of broken pieces in the sink, on the floor, or in my hands when I manipulate my hair at the end of the day and when unwrapping it in the morning. Too much breakage!

@@ChimereTrielle Thanks a lot.😊 Never used any of those brands and moringa oil. Been on Ayurvedic recipes and the other oils mentioned. Camille rose and soultanicals are my current brands.
@@mfonix agreed, I love me some Ayurveda 👍🏽
@@mfonix i have used both and love them both too! I particularly used the soultanicals glide n go fenugreek deep conditioner and the Camille rose moisture milk. I used to deem the moisture milk too thick for my hair but i have been experimenting with using indirect heat to warm up the product prior to using and it makes a world of difference! Some of my products aren’t nearly as thick as i thought they were. They were just cold!
Stopped going to hairdresser. I am far more gentle and attentive to my hair. My hair is thriving.
God is so good. Thx for giving God the glory. I sat right up. Stay blessed
I had to stop not paying attention to my hair. I was literally taking it for granted until it started to leave. At that point it had my full attention and now we are happy again.

Heyy! Thank you for being here! 💜

Very true! Thank you for sharing!
Due to my crown area being the most coarse & weakest part of my head I section in 6 instead of 4.
Girl me too ✋!!! I do 6 sections as well. Don't get me started on my crown... all I can say is wow.
I had to stop:
1) Listening to everyone’s suggestions of products to use & observe my hair instead (product junkie)
2) sleeping with conditioner overnight
3) LEARN MY HAIR (porosity/density)
4) limit protein because my hair doesn’t care for it much
5) over-manipulation
Bonus: stop allowing people in my head & learned how to do mine because everybody don’t love your hair like you do & jealousy is real 😒
Great advice! 😆
Lately I don't like my natural hair much, it's sore when I detangle... I am still testing products that could help... 4C, dry, knotty hair... But I am learning from u each time

I stopped using wash and goes. learnt my hair porosity and changed how I keep my hair moisturized. Game changer
I had to start using my fingers first before I use a seamless wide tooth comb. Then I also have to make sure I saturate my hair completely (with water) before I prepoo it makes a difference. Love your channel I'm learning a lot!!!

Thank you Sheila! I will definitely add that topic to my list. 😆
@@lexilomax4986 Thanks Lexi for your comments. I will definitely try Collagen for my thinning hair.
You’re so welcome Gloria!
I had to stop putting my hands in my hair every single day. It's now in a protective style and I don't plan on touching it for at least 3 weeks.
Yay protective styling!
A lot of us live in stress. Especially me. Making small changes helps until you get to where you need to be.
I had to stop two strand twisting my hair for protective styling. Plaiting my hair has kept it from tangles and knots.
I live in LI too, I did the same thing. I was wondering what it was then found it was the glycerin.

I stopped combing my hair except once a week on wash day.
God bless you! I appreciate your advice! I backed off from retouching my hair (just to give it a break). Keep the advice coming; very helpful!

I usually used to put alot of products on my hair so styling has been leave-in and an oil braid it or bun for low manipulation.
Can you do a video about how to care of the hair when you have protective style

@Jennifer Rogers, my hair doesn't like a lot of coconut oil, but the pre-poo I use, which has coconut oil in it, works wonders for my hair.
As long as you're just applying it to your hair only and keeping it away from your face it should be fine as a pre-poo because you're going to wash it out.
