Speaking of people capitalizing off of her FREE knowledge, I saw a white dude selling rice water in a spray bottle on an IG ad. Smh
Prepooing & grease are changing my life. Them plus Ayurveda 🙌🏾 if my hair isn’t down my butt by next year, it’s because someone was praying hard against me 😂😭😂

@@CurlyChemistry i definitely will 🤍
@@tab5567 usually blue magic, either the blue one or the hemp seed one. I use it on wash days to seal my hair
Girl, you just are so quick and concise, I learn something from every video you make, thank you for your hard work and sharing your knowledge!
Thank you!! 💜💜
@@CurlyChemistry What is a great leave-in conditioner for HP hair?
P- Coconut oil
M- Fenugreek leave-in Conditioner
P- Avocado Oil
The Avocado oil is a recent thing. My fine sparcely dense hair loves this mixture like mad crazy, my hair doesn't shed as much and I'm actually retaining length. All the way from South Africa, Thanks for hair changing lesson. Keep it up❤👊🏽
Hey, what brand of fenugreek leave in you use? I love fenugreek!
@@Shoneeno1 Its homemade. I took Fenugreek powder (You can also use seeds) 1 tbsp. in boiled water and left it covered for 24hrs, then poured it in a spray bottle making sure not to pour in the powder fragments. Then added olive oil, coconut oil, glycerin and a few drops of peppermint and rosemary oil. You can just add oils and essential oils of your choice.
@@Shoneeno1 Hi!
@@kegaugetswemokoele5800Ok Cool!!! I'll try it...Thank you so much for replying!!!! 😉
Avocado oil is life.
P - a rich conditioner mixed w/ coconut oil
M - a hair milk or lotiony leave-in conditioner
P - a gel in warm months or grease topped with gel in cold months
I think Conditioner doesn't penetrate the hair, it just creates a film on top of the hair
Its the water that penetrates the hair from the conditioner and not necessarily the conditioner
Can you recommend any good moisturisers?
@@shomshomni2314 My favorites are Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus hair milk, Shea Moisture JBCO Leave in conditioner, Kinky-Curly Leave In Conditioner, & Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream in that order. All of these double as moisturizers & stylers for me.
@@sarahabeid2432 You're right. I need the conditioner to give my pre-poo slip and allow me to detangle. The coconut oil that I mix with the conditioner is still able to penetrate. I use extra virgin coconut oil or Vatika enriched coconut oil. It works great and is so cost-effective.
P-coconut or avocado
M- hair mask or conditioner
P-jojoba oil or sweet almond oil.
Also scalp Massages every night for blood flow.
Through out the week is super soft shiny 3b curls thanks to you God bless you.
I've used coconut oil for a long time as a pre-poo. But recently I've also added extra virgin olive oil and Avocado oil, after the coconut oil has been penetrating at overnight. It has made my hair so much more lubricated, after my wash days.
Yes same oils I use best for hair
Hi
For my prepoo I use olive oil
For my moisturizing I use ors olive oil moisturizing lotion
And for my protective (sealing), I use olive oil again 🙂
Coconut oil to pre-poo. Babassu oil to penetrate; aloe vera hell + leave in to moisturize and Jamaican black castor oil to protect. I have high porosity hair.
Thank God for a real chemist!. Natural Hair Gurus better run! I can’t wait to apply your suggestions. Thank you Tonya.
I use either coconut oil or the African Pride pre-shampoo to pre-poo; Aussie leave-in detangling milk or a DIY moisturizing spray to moisturize; and grapeseed oil, JBCO, or hair grease to seal.
Thank you for sharing! ☺️
That African pride pre shampoo works great on our hair. Definitely get the tangles out.
Very informative, P - Babassu oil M- Camille rose hair milk P- Melanin hair oil .
Pre-pooing was definitely a great add to my regime. And my P- Coconut Oi, M- Water, P- is a mult- oil from Alikay Naturals or from the Melanin hair care lines. The multi-oil from the Melanin hair care line is my new favorite add, such a good, light and sealing oil.
Grease is changing my life. Castor oil and sweet almond oil is everything.
P: coconut oil OR an Ayurvedic oil mix (coconut & babassu oil mixed with fenugreek, Amla, brahmi, Moringa & sometimes henna powder)
M: aloe juice & a leave in conditioner
P: grease or a Moringa/Amla Shea butter i make
I’m very high porosity so i do this twice a week. The rest of the days of the week it’s just aloe juice, leave in & oil/Shea butter mix 🤍
Everyday I moisturise my hair I apply coconut oil, then Kylex Naturals leave-in, then Sunny Isle castor oil blend. I do this almost every day and when I watched ur video about the PMP, I was like wow. But my hair loves it

Olive oil is a penetrating oil
Oh, NOW I understand. Watched the PMP video before and wanted to do it but had SO many questions. Got it! Thanks, Curly Chemistry.
You're welcome Gloria! :-)
Thanks so much for explaining the PMP hair method! Today was my wash day and I was wondering which oil should be first then last. This explained it all! She really broke it down. I really appreciate her taking the time to help us on this hair growth journey!
This was great. I lost the back of my hair, the nape because the shower water made the hair wet everyday. I lost so much protein that it broke off. I trimmed it and it’s about 3 inches long in the back now. I was thinking about getting a under cut but I’m going to try PMP...do the MP instead of LOC.
This video explains it all this just puts everything in perspective for me. I think you hit on every level of doing our hair. Thank you so much!
I want to say thank you so much for ur channel...yrs of struggling with my hair right now my hair is thicker and growing so much.....thank you....🇩🇲 Caribbean beauty

Don't worry only took me 10 years to figure out my hair. Lol!
I have been binge watching your videos since yesterday and I will say I have learnt a lot so far. I would love an indepth video on Prepoo, how it works difference between using Oil or conditioner or even ayurvedic herbs as a Prepoo. More like a scientific take on Prepoo. Thank you for all your awesome videos
Great video! I have locs, 4c low porosity dense hair. For my P - Fractionated coconut oil infused with Amla and Brahmi (I can not use solid coconut oil or babassu oil. As a loose natural those oils were great for me; no Bueno on my locs). I tend to let it sit overnight for maximum penetration or if I don't have the time I sit under a bonnet dryer or steamer cap for 10-15min with a shower cap on). M - Very watered-down Kinky Curly Knot today conditioner or Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner with Rosewater & Aloe Vera juice in a continuous spray bottle. P - Jojoba or Avocado oil in winter months, Grapeseed oil in summer.
I use on my low porosity hair -
P - African Pride Aloe & Coconut Water Detangle & Condition Pre-Shampoo,
M - Ouidad Moisture Lock Leave-In Conditioner,
P - Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Styling Gel
I'm pretty new to pre-pooing! I've been trying to regrow my hair after most of it fell out due to a heart medication I'd been prescribed. Since then I've been researching hair growth products and methods and to be honest, I am overwhelmed!!There's such a plethora of information and products available that it's hard to know where to start. I don't know how I came across your channel but, I am so glad that I did! I feel like I'm finally starting to understand "Hair" and, more importantly, "My Hair". That being said, I am now trying your PMP method using Ayurvedic products. For my Pre-Poo I've been using Amla oil. To moisturize I use a water based cream product with Amla Powder mixed in. To protect I us a mixture of Almond Mint oil and Mahabhringaraj oil. I'd really like your opinion as to whether I'm on the right track here.
Praying for you
P-coconut oil
M-Rinse out conditioner with water
P-Castor oil. Gel sometimes for extra hold

I am so glad someone else has said this. Oils do not work for my hair, so I switched to using butters and grease on my hair and that works fine for me.
Hair grease is a secret gem! :-)
@@CurlyChemistry Yes it is.

Very helpful! P - coconut oil M - water/leavin mix P - Melanin hair oil With my hairs current length wash n go’s are a staple because it’s not long enough for braid/twist outs that don’t look a hot mess. So this method is tricky based on hair length for me.
Understandable! I’m a huge fan of doing what works for you. At the end of the day if wash and go’s are great for your hair, stick with it! ☺️
I guess I been doing this method without knowing the name of it 🤦🏾♀️😬. I normally do a double treatment at the Prepoo stage. I use the warm oil ( The Mane choice Alpha growth oil and coconut oil) to detangle. After my whole head is detangled and twisted up I pour onion juice over my hair and scalp and cover for 2 hrs. Then I wash and deep condition with ayurvedic herbs. My hair has grown so much.
I haven't used a prepoo often usually after long term protective styles. I stay in the M.P. realm. Right now I am using Melanin hair cares Leave in but I am going Back to Oyins hair dew once this is finished. The P lately has been my Cutly Proverb oil blend. I made some after the one I purchased ran out. So far so good

@Curly Chemistry First, I would like to say thank you for providing such informative and highly beneficial videos which I have found to be both educational , and gives me the answers I could not find elsewhere. For years I hated my natural hair and hid it away under weaves and relaxers. I now know it was because I didn't understand my hair and how to care for it, or even how special and beautiful it is. My awakening happened in 2014 when I came across an article that explained the dangerous chemicals that relaxers contain, so, when I realised these chemicals actually seep into the skin and their potential, I knew it was my responsibility to act and treat my health with respect. I cut off my relaxed hair and began my natural hair journey which I have found to be both liberating and true to myself. My hair is a mixture of 2A, 2C, and 3C. It is low-porosity, with fine strands and lots of follicles so, when it is out I have lots of hair, and as you can imagine it also tangles quickly. I moisturise every two days, and my PMP routine is centered around coconut and olive oil as a prepoo, TGIN leave-in, sealed with Jojoba oil.
Keep up the great work, lots of love from the UK!!
Thank you so much for sharing!! 💜
@@CurlyChemistry you're so welcome!!

I swear I am confused. When did taking care of natural hair become so complicated? My mother's generation never had all the issues we seem to be having or have to use all these different products and methods and grew hair like nobody's business. It used to be simple but now it is way too complicated.
So true, I think I will just stick with what I have been doing from time
Agreed! Just need to wash, deep condition and style! It's truly that simple.
@@felicia_716 agree!! It was weekly washing, condition, grease and done. Lol and we had very health hair. There was no such thing as hair typing and porosity. And my mother back in the day used the cheap shampoo and conditioner. LOL
@@debrahodge7125 interesting on purely a theoretical level. Ppl who feel the same as you are proof that the old system did work yet the fact that new systems were invented in the first suggest that the old system didn't work for everyone. I'm probably stating the obvious but I had fun reasoning through this "old hair v new hair" rivalry. Lol, thanks🤪
@@sasha.t3737 have no idea what you are talking about but okay. I was not discussing any new hair vs old hair rivalry. Just have a wonderful memory of what my mother did when I was a child... I am well aware that everyone's hair is unique and to each their own. 😊
My personal PMP is :
P- coconut cream mixed with ayurvedic powders or african pride aloe vera prepoo
M- a leave in either Pink's Luster coconut one or Shea Moisture JBCO leave in
P- Curly Proverbz DIY ayurvedic oil blend (that I customize a little depending on what I have available)
But I have a question though: what are your thoughts on ayurvedic treatments (plants, seeds, technique etc.)? Could you make a serie about it? because ayurveda has been key to my hair's health yet as chemist I'd like your scientific insight
Because based on this video, since I'm not using any oils as my prepoos, then I missing out on something...
My favorite video! Great questions and like this PMP method.
I use amla or coconut oil with rosemary leaves to prepoo, I have a moisture mix I made which has glycerine in it, and I seal with shea butter and two greases. I know it sounds like overloading my hair, but it's not. When I moisturize my hair it's good for two weeks sometimes three depending on the state it was in previously and then I moisturize again after the two or three weeks till my washday, so all in all, my hair only needs moisturizing twice a month.
That's amazing! I'm glad you found what works for you! :-)
Thanks for tips I like the way you go straight to the point. I think I'm doing this method already but need to tweet it as I may have been using in the incorrect order lol. Great tips 👌

Thank you so much!
question 🙋🏽♀️: can you do a video on diy flax seed gel? as a rinse (after shampoo) or leave-in? Do you think it’s beneficial for high porosity hair?
Hi I’d like to know what your opinion is on flaxseed gel as well!
I moisturise with water or a mix of water and aloe vera juice or gel when needed. I try to wash my hair once a week 2 at the most. I pre-poo once a. I shampoo, once or twice a month I make a clay mask with a mix of fenugreek, cheba, Amla powder with other herbs, then I rinse out, and condition. I use a leave in conditioner on damp hair, the use my hand crafted hair butter I made with different butters oils, fenugreek and hibiscus.
My hair is very dry no matter what I used hair rinse blonde I'm grey some parts and black some time i use golden brown i do leave in moisturize oil still dry steam once a week shampoo condition also I'll try what u said on yr video it sounds awesome
Thanks for the great information!
what are your thoughts on aunt jackie’s quench leave in conditioner if you’ve used it
You are a life saver 💕
Sho nuff been playin myself not reapplying a protectant layer when moisturizing throughout the week. I thought it would be excessive since I already have protectant in my hair from wash day buuuuut apparently not lol. So thank you! About to go MP right now :)
Another question 😄 is Grapeseed oil and Olive oil penetrating oils. I think I read to much because I read that low porosity hair shouldn't prepoo. Again I need help 🆘🆘🆘
Can you please do a video for growing hair over 50 years old.
What I love about prepooing is that my hair dries so much faster!
Oh 😳 interesting..... I am back to prepoo and planning to be consistent. Will pay attention to how my hair react ☺️. Low/medium porosity here.
Thank you once again for providing excellent fact based hairformation.

Hi darling🌻
Can I prepoo with chebe?
Preepoo coco oil - Shampoo - condition - butter creame- grease- oil
Great info. I have many oils and butter I'm trying to find out what works best for me
For prepoo is it better to use Aloe Vera gel or Avocado oil? My hair is 80% hi-porosity. Are they both moisturizing? I’m confused. I would like to know your point of you on this. Thank you always for all the tips you gave us. Love from 🇨🇦
Oh and I forgot:
P= Avocado oil or Aloe Vera Gel
M= Shea Moisture sillicone free Leave-In
P= Castor oil+ Grapeseed oil+ few drops of rosemary oil
I am loving you’re videos been so much helpful
Very educative thank you 🤗🤗
From a chemist point of view, can melted organic shea butter be used as a pre poo?
I love avocado oil, and it's more accessible to me in Jamaica as opposed to other oils...
Question: how do i know if it even should ho in my hair? Specifically if its marketed for cooking😬 much love🔥❤💘
I like to use Melanin Hair Care's oil blend or my own which is predominantly sunflower oil. I apply it and some type of creamy leave-in before getting out of the shower. I'll let that sit in my hair under a plastic cap to let my body heat help it get absorbed into my strands. Then my styler and then a serum ( Eden Bodyworks Almond Marshmallow), extra dark JBCO castor oil, or grease (Blue Magic Indian Hemp is my favorite) as my protectant.
Thanks for sharing! ☺️
This is more for my baby boy, but the P- undecided, I'm about to try coconut oil kn his dry hair as a prepoo. M- Knot Sauce by soultanicals mixed in a water bottle P- a mix of shea butter, castor oil, avocado, flax seed oil, jojoba, sunflower AND grapeseed AND argan with a bit of frankincense and chamomile essential oils for his crown 👑
So here's my question. He's a toddler. He has to have a bath just about every day but I'm pretty sure his hair is having hydro-fatique. How do I get the food and dirt out of his hair without overhydrating his hair? Should I cowash?
If folks are washing their hair once (maybe a couple of times) a week like most naturals do, if not *less* frequently, what is the likelihood that they could experience hygral fatigue, necessitating prepoo in the first place?
From my understanding constantly wet/damp hair and over conditioning (esp on damaged hair to begin with) is the main factor for hygral fatigue and not a weekly/biweekly wash.
Also if your M step has protecting oils in the formulation do you need to add more?
If you’re not washing your hair daily and leaving it wet you are very unlikely to experience hygral fatigue
Hairstylist would also argue that you don’t need another oil if your styler has some already
@@isabellevasquez7433 exactly 🙂 on both answers 👏🏽
This seems redundant
I usually wash my hair once a week and struggle badly with the ends of my hair. My hair dries VERY fast, especially the ends. As a result I can never get my ends smooth for a style and they knot up badly. I found this video and gave it a try after having it in a crochet for 4 weeks, starting with a coconut hot oil treatment that I let sit overnight. The difference was night and day--easy to detangle and hardly any fairy knots. I shared with my mom who had also taken out a crochet after 3-4 weeks and washed her hair. In addition to her regular complaints, she said her hair was hard and brittle and snapping at the slightest touch. She did the prepoo that night and the next day after washing/conditioning, said her hair looked and felt "so much better". For some of us, it is not about the frequency of washing. Every time, my hair will soak up all the water it can. I have been missing that oil/water balance.
@@EBlack2011 when is the last time you got a trim? Did you get a trim before your protective style?
Tbh the way many naturals are using oils is just a way to mask (literally it's a layer) the condition of our hair whether that is weathered split ends that are tangling, product buildup, a lack of water in the strands. Oils are smooth and slick and so yes the hair will feel better but the hair is in the exact same condition underneath it
Thank you, you've answered all my questions ♥️
