I can't use coconut oil. It dries my hair out. My sister told me that the grease I had used my WHOLE life and grew shoulder length thick hair from was bad and I needed to use coconut oil. Long story short, my hair broke off, I had to cut it and as I was now married with 4 kids I didn't feel like putting in the work to grow it out again for 4 yrs. But I started growing it out again last August and have retained 4 inches with just twist, oh and yes, I use GREASE!
I thought I was the only one to get drying and breakage from coconut oil, and itching stopped using about 6 years ago and yes went back to blue magic, blue magic is good for my greys also .
Same here everyone raved over coconut oil and my hair felt like I could snap it off like a twig when I used. That was day I learned, all hair is not created equal.
I must detangle my hair at least every other day. I must shampoo every 7 - 10 days. No wigs, weaves, or synthetic hair in my natural hair. My scalp & head hates all of those.
@@BuffyNoir140 its like my hair likes to be free and just be itself. Since I realized this I just take the best care of it and allow it to flourish in all its beauty.
I am exactly like you on the shampoo and wigs, weaves, and synthetic hair. I have tried and my scalp and edges says " No I don't think so. Get this off my scalp "
I can't lay down on my hair and think it's going to bounce back. When I lay down, my hair is down for the count. I have to retwist my hair every night if I'm wearing it in a twistout to get a fresh look. No wake up, fluff and go for me.
Exact same thing with mine. I will see these ladies putting their twist outs in a "pineapple" before going to bed then wake up the nxt morning & it looks like new again. Me? This fluff ball would never so I got to retwist every nite🤦🏽♀️ the struggle
So true and don't get it when other people think because theirs will bounce back, so will yours. I'm a sweater plus my hair is fine but dense with its own kinky curl pattern.
@@jk9084 that's the point, we use water to stretch our hair so we can elongate it and it makes it easier to detangle. Once our hair dries we hope it retains the length.
I realized I can't thoroughly wash my type 4 hair without sectioning it. It's just impossible to get ALL of my hair and every part of my scalp clean without sectioning it (and of course, detangling every section). Sectioning my hair into 4 parts every wash day has been a HUGE game-changer for me.
I’m late to the party, but I’ve learned that the needs of my hair continuously evolve as the months and years pass. My regimen was one way during my transition to natural and the DAY I cut my relaxed ends off, I had to relearn how to handle my hair. Sometimes when I try a product and it doesn’t work, I’ll keep it around for a while and my hair will love and need it later. I’ve had to make continuing adjustments to my routine from when my hair was shoulder length, to now that it’s almost waist length. That’s why it’s a “journey”. You have to remain flexible and vigilant. When your hair tells you that it needs something different, listen.
Honestly you really aren't supposed to keep them in for more than two weeks according to my natural hair stylist. Some people can get away with longer but it really isnt healthy for anyone
Me too. My fine hair hates being trapped for even a week. I tell folks I protect style twice a week cause these fine strands lock up in No time and then break off. And also no extended deep treatments 15 maybe 30 minutes tops. Fine hair likes to act all delicate and finicky.
Just really thinking about the detangling. Sometimes I feel like it is a necessary evil, because as you pointed out we have to get rid of the shed hair, but at the same time detangling can break hair off of it is done improperly, and sometimes even when you are super gentle it can still break.
You can't manipulate your hair and expect to have no breakage at all, whether you are detangling it or not. The point is to have the less breakage you can get but don't be too harsh on yourself
With my hair I found out that I have to moisturize my hair every 2 days and finger comb in sections delicately. Thank You for this much needed info always learning something from every video.
I learned for my hair, I CANNOT be a "straight natural ". Anytime I apply even the least amount of heat to my hair (even with tons of heat protectant), there will be heat damage.
The one thing I can’t do is NOT WASH it! I can’t wait a week. And now that it’s summer, I do a conditioner. If I don’t wash once a week (can’t be more, and too much washing is an issue) I get scalp issues. I found a routine that works well for me. And I’m sticking to it! Lol
Me same. I must wash at least once a week at minimum. Sometimes even twice if I've been sweating. But I have sebhorreic dermatitis so unfortunately, I can't do just conditioner because it doesn't cleanse my scalp
@@stephanies3862 I’m right there with you on the SD. I probably wash mine every 4 days or so, but seems to be working for both my scalp & hair. I’m a bleached blonde, so my hair seems to like getting that much water, thank goodness.
Girl same. I have a friend that waits every 3 weeks and she complains about bad scalp itching after a week. I said girl...that MIGHT mean you need to try washing more frequently 🤷🏾♀️
@@keepinitkawaii Lol She definitely needs to wash more often for sure 🤣. Back when I was relaxed I used to hold out washing every 2 weeks and that was pure torture!! 🤯
"With my hair I cannot" do the LOC method. I do the LCO method, with a little gel afterward. I do it section by section....my moisture lasts for 4-5 days. Love it!
1. Combing 2. Cleansing 3. Bandwagon When I was pregnant, I couldn't comb my hair because I was always too tired. I had to big chop like 4 times. It's a year later and my hair is below my armpit now. Now, one thing I'll never do to my hair ever again is crochet! My hair will be as dry as a dessert leaf and shed in gobs! Not even with a million dollars would I do that style again. I can't go a week without washing my scalp; it will be on fire!
Yesss I completely agree with you that crocheting makes my hair fall out even more than box braids and box braids make my hair fall out too I don't want shedding hair so I just don't put my hair in anything anymore just basic dookie braid protective styles are fine with me
@@nnenne4 Wash n Go is my best friend now. If I want a twist, I do a three-strand twist especially when I'm trimming. Aside from that, Wash n Go all the wayyyy🙌🏿
Get water friendly crotchet, and wash your hair. If a protective style prevents your from accessing your scalp, it’s probably not the best one. So modify it or find a new one.
I used to spray water on my hair and seal in the moisture with olive oil every 2 to 3 days. My hair dried out in a day. I have learned that I have to oil my scalp and ends every 2 to 3 days and use Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion on my hair. My hair loves this product. This routine retains the moisture of my hair and I have less shedding and breakage. For my scalp I make my own herb oils using moringa, rosemary, amla, fenugreek, brahm and aloe vera. The best detangler for me is the aloe vera leaf. I deep condition my hair once a month with Dove deep conditioning cream adding jamaican caster oil, my own herb oils, glycerin, honey, vitamin E and peppermint essential oil. I have also learned that I lose less hair if I finger tangle my hair and blow dry my roots after each wash day.
I've learned that protective styling with extensions is not for me! I would get my hair cornrowed and wear wigs 25/7 and have dry hair for almost two months at a time - but no more! I did the big chop on my natural hair last July (my hair was about 1 cm long) and one year later, even after neglecting my hair like crazy, my hair is now 5 inches long, and that makes me wonder about my hair's true potential - all I have to do is take care of it and I'm sure I'll see even more growth within a year's time. I've started a regimen of washing my hair weekly and using an aloe vera gel+peppermint oil spritz, Camille Rose leave-in conditioner, and sealing with Kuza's Indian Hemp Grease. I'm on a journey to growing my natural hair and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me!
I can’t use combs. I detangle on wash day. I have to finger detangle first then use my tangle teaser. I use The one for fine/fragile hair it’s more gentle. Then I use my fingers until the next wash day. Having said that my hair are in twists most of the time so there isn’t really a need for tools throughout the week.
@@sarahabeid2432 if you want a thorough detangling and you have tight curls a brush is way much better than a wide tooth comb imo. The felicia leatherwood brush works as well. I use those bestool one on my son which is some rendition of it(🤣) and it makes my life easier. He has tighter curls than mine. I've got a mixed and a lot of 4z hair which has no definition. Whatever you decide always go for the fragile hair options when it comes to hair tools.
For me that 30 day detox absolutely works! I don't plan on returning to raw oils and butters BUT I do think they are beneficial for many people and I see evidence of that all around me. For my fine strands though it's a no.
I have to wash my hair twice a week on a scheduled to keep it looking good and feeling moisturized. I wash it with a moisturizing shampoo one day and use a co-wash the other day. But, once a month I'm sure to use a clarifying shampoo to start with a clean slate. That always makes a difference and keeps my fine, low porosity hair from getting any build-up and no shedding and also is helping me to retain length. 👍🏻🤗🥰
I learned that if I go more than two weeks without washing my hair cause my scalp speaks to me. And also putting hair grease in my hair after leave in, twisting cream keeps my hair feeling great. I've been a natural for 15 years and I've learned so much from watching your videos. God bless you.
Apple Cider vinegar and water cleared my dermatitis in a month. I had it for 12 years. Spray your hair after you condition your hair. Wash every week. Good luck.
@@emmanuellao2248 too funny🤣 I literally laughed out loud. The same here but it's like you took the words right out of my brain 🧠🤣🤣✌ to a wide tooth comb!!!!!
I can’t go without greasing my scalp or putting oil on my hair and scalp. My scalp eats up oil fast. I can’t do Braids, crochet, breaks my hair out. I have fine, soft, hair. I usually wash once a week. Now I just do every two weeks. I may wash one week and the second would be conditioned week. Can’t wear high bun or pony tails, easy break off. Can’t do molded (gel, sprtz) hairstyles under the dryer. Major breakage 😔 I can’t use eco gel for my edges a lot, breaks off. If I use soft edge control, there is no control. Lol I’m all natural going on 10 years. Years before I had perms but it started not to take anymore. Once I went natural, I didn’t know I had inherited curly hair. So my journey has been good and bad. Still trying to figure it out. I’m now looking at products without alcohol.
I can’t use coconut oil , jojoba oil or honey in my hair. I can’t use shea butter creams on my scalp but my hair loves creams. My hair loves water daily and my scalp loves massage daily
I’ve learned that once I remoisturise my hair 3-4 days after my first initial moisturising routine on wash day. It is redundant for me to keep remoisturising my hair after that because it starts to feel like it’s parched. And what my hair needs is real hydration(water) so wash day HASSSS to be every week and if I’m busy I can only push it to a week and a half after that I risk damage to my ends. It’s like they become brittle and really weak after that point
What I’ve learned about my hair is that I cannot go more than a week without washing it. My hair is fine and thin it doesn’t take much for product to build up. I’m loving this natural hair journey although I’ve been doing it for a while I’m just finding out how to care for my natural hair to prevent breakage retain moisture and promote growth!!!
I learned very recently that I have to moisturize my hair every 4 days after watching your videos faithfully. Thank you for helping me! My hair recently suffered from excessive shedding and now it is recovering from that.
I know that putting chemicals in my hair was the worst thing I could ever have done, it is magnificently healthy, beautiful, and long in the absence of chemicals. With my natural hair, finger combing really doesn't work well for me, shampooing too frequently is a no no, using a wide-tooth comb and detangling and shampooing in sections is a Go Go! :-)
My hair doesn't perform well if it's brushed or combed. I must finger comb. I get the right amount of curl separation, decent volume and much less tugging when I finger comb.
I cannot section my hair in to 4 sections to wash or do anything because it cause breakage in my crown area. I cannot flat twist or braid down the from section of my hair because my hairline is so baby fine and fragile it breaks. I cannot use a comb to detangle it has to be a paddle brush if I’m detangling before washing or styling and a tangle teaser brush in the shower. I have to add coconut oil to dry hair to make detangling easy. I cannot grease my scalp the old fashion way due to very fine strands so I liquify it then use an applicator bottle to put it on my scalp.I absolutely cannot wear fake hair at all not even braids or twist with added hair. I cannot go weeks without washing my hair.
Used Aussie once . My hair fell out the same way an over processed perm would fall out. Followed instructions to the T. My hair is super fine, although 4C.
That third tip is gold! I had to learn not to jump on every bandwagon the hard way. For my low porosity hair I realized I can't do a cold water rinse since I need heat to absorb moisture
@@lindarandall8022 But for my low porosity hair if you do a cold water rinse and then try to apply a leave in or any other moisturizers the hair will have trouble absorbing it and then it just sits in top so that's why it doesn't work but I would think a cold water rinse works better for high porosity hair since they have trouble retaining moisture Instead apply my leave in and put a plastic cap on for 10 mins to give it time to absorb and then use a oil to seal it in ☺️ my hair is now almost waist length
@@kittyjoy4374 when I started my hair journey my hair was LP and hated cold water rinses, now my hair is medium/high porosity and now it's a must so you're totally right
It took years for me to notice, but I realize I don’t regularly deep condition, do hot oil treatments (never have) or use leave in conditioner or creams. I started reevaluating things I’ve done and not done over the years, and it made me wonder if I was doing something wrong. My hair thrives with a medicated shampoo for my scalp, a heavy shampoo for my hair, a rinse out conditioner and a whipped shea butter/coconut oil mix to style. (Raw shea butter does not have the same effect as whipped for me) I’ve tried things outside of that, but nothing else keeps my hair consistent and easy to maintain.
When I started my natural hair journey, I was trying everything on YT to get my hair to grow and to a healthy state. My wasn't having any of it not only did it stop growing I know have a bald spot in the front of my head. I found your channel it has been a great benefit I have learned the correct way to moisturize my hair and it is lovely. Thank you😄
@8:09 To answer your question, with my hair, I have learned: • Combs break my hair strands (especially when soaking wet) so finger-detangling 100% of the time is best • Putting oil on my scalp makes my scalp itchy and causes acne bumps to develop, so I can't do that. Instead, I spray my scalp with diluted tea tree oil and peppermint essential oil or even aloe vera juice after shampooing to keep my scalp under control • The foam and suds from shampoo make finger-detangling my hair super easy and also makes it so I don't have to section my hair anymore on wash day because of how the foam sort of acts like a glue and keeps my clumped, detangled curls together. This allows me to wash my hair in 20-25 minutes instead of it taking the usual 45-60 minutes when I would try to bother with sectioning beforehand. I'm still learning more about my hair, but these 3 things have been amazing learning lessons I've picked up on for my own hair. Awesome video 🙂.
It might've been better to say detangling instead of combing. I haven't used a comb in my hair for over a year now and now my hair is mid back length. That being said my hair is mid density so we gotta know what works for us as individuals
Yup! Combs and brushes ripped my hair out so badly I was stuck at above chin length for the longest. I started finger detangling only since December and my hair is thriving.
I can't do weekly protective styles. My hair HATES manipulation. It grows best when out and un-styled. If I braid my hair, it has to stay that way for no less than two weeks. Don't worry I wash my hair biweekly with my braids and redo them in sections. My hair also hates tension, so knotless box braids are my life.
I discovered my scalp hates when I put oils, grease etc. I get itching. I put nothing on my scalp except occasionally aloe juice and I have no more itching.
I have fine low porosity natural hair and have learned over the past seven years that simplicity is key! I mainly finger detangle, use black owned Ayurvedic products and do low manipulation hairstyles. My hair is currently at waist length 🙏🏾
Thank you for this! I’m in the process of regrowing my hair after cutting it 2 years ago, and I’ve learned that I cannot do synthetic hair anymore! It dries my hair out horribly and makes it very unmanageable.
I have fine natural hair too and I mainly finger detangle and use a wide tooth comb on blow dried hair! I’ve retained so much length from doing this 🙌🏾
Wait... is fine hair More prone to single strand knots? This is new info to me. I have fine strands. I get the crazy fairy knots. Didnt know this could be the reason.
I can't use non-clarifying shampoos. They don't get my hair clean enough and my scalp always has a layer of dead skin and oils left on it. I might follow a clarifying wash with a moisturizing shampoo if I could use the second wash but don't it to be as harsh though. But on their own, moisturizing shampoos are a no-go.
Please do videos on the difference of protein and moisturising deep conditioning hair masks. Also what is a protein etc. The different ingredients to find in these products, effective percentage (where it is on the inci list), what makes it intensive? and recommend some too please (internationally available). You've never gotten into detail before.
With my hair I have to wash it once a week. I deep condition every wash day and use jojoba oil, black jamaican castor oil and cantu leave in conditioner to seal in the moisture. My hair stays moisturized all week.
Finally figured out why the different oils weren’t growing my hair or stopping it from breakage. I was iron and vitamin D deficient. Check your levels ladies. Also folic acid supplementation will work wonders.
My hair loves heat. I blow dry to stretch it and it retains moisture, breaks/tangles less and I get fewer single strand knots. My hair likes grease and I use varying herbal, petroleum free ones. It also likes to be pre-pooed, washed at least once a week, detangled, and deep conditioned.
I agree. I used Curly proverbs henna & clay mask that she teaches about and my hair strands became split from the root. I was horrified. I have very coily, fine high porosity hair. I thought I may have done it wrong and tried it again a year later & the same thing happened 😪😥😪. So now I listen to my hair and threw everything henna & clay in the trash. My hair loves creams & light oils. I also leave conditioner in my hair ( the one you suppose to rinse out ) I am going to cut my hair for the winter and start again from scratch. It's very important to follow what your hair reacts to. I do use the teas Curly proverbs teach about & my hair loves it. It's always a watch & see when it comes to new regimens.
I’ve learned over the years, I’ve been waist length twice, that if I want fast length retention I cannot I repeat cannot comb my hair more than once a month...🤷🏾♀️
@@aliciastewart3037 I wash every 4-6 weeks either I bun or braid my hair under a wig I’m relaxed now and mid back length will be waist I’m pretty sure by the end of this year. I’m 4c nothing special though low manipulation is the name of the game. Just leave your hair alone🤷🏾♀️
Me too 😱, I protective style for 4-6 weeks at a time but I wash my hair every 7-10 days in the protective style. Combing more than once a month is a recipe for thousands of single strand knots 😆. This regimen took me to waist length
I have hair that is fine and I have found that butters are to thick and heavy for my hair and doesnt really help with moisture or moisture retention. Even heavier oils like olive, so I stick with the lighter weight oils and heavy ones just on my scalp. My hair has been happier. ❤ fantastic video!
I’ve learned (from my most recent twist out fail) that I cannot deep condition with my leave in in twists after shampooing. I can’t be lazy. I have to take my time and deep condition and detangle and then style my hair.
@@sharondadottery6551 where I live in the there are vendors on the streets selling little packets of fenugreek powder, but you can get it at health food stores as well as the seeds are sold at the supermarket. I usually blend the powder with aloe vera and peppermint and use it as a pre poo. I also add some to my homemade black soap shampoo. I use to mix it with water I my spray bottle but the powder clogs the nozzle of the bottle. Present using these regiments my hair is now waist length.
Soak 2 to 3 tablespoons in hot water, leave for a day, or drink after a few hours. Blend the swollen left over seeds in with your smoothy, don't throw them away. Fenugreek has many health benefits besides applying topically on your scalp as hair mask. Also good to help get clear skin when used regularly ,as in daily. It has a bit of a nutty flavour, but as with all natural products; patience is a virtue🍀
Great video, love your content! If I put my hair in twists then I can typically get away without a wash day for 2 weeks, but if I just have my curls out, my hair needs a wash weekly. I am so glad that I have finally found products that my hair really loves. I was so tired of wasting money on basically failed experimentation with other products.
Just to hear you say the product in your hair is acting like a cement to the shedding hair meshing it together with the other hair is why combing is so essential......sooooo gooood info you are on spot Thanks!!!!!
With my hair I can not just finger detangle. I have to go in with a tool for sure. Question: can u maybe talk about hard water & sulfate free shampoos?
With my hair I learned I cannot go without washing weekly, I cannot use sulfate shampoos, I cannot wear my hair in a wash & go style often and I cannot go without oils on my scalp/hair.
I can't go more than 2-3 days without washing my hair. I mostly use non sulfate shampoos and I wash at least 2 times a week. Twice a month I use a sulfate shampoo to cleanse. I have been told by a lot of people, including hair dressers to learn to push my wash dates out to a week or 9 days. I just can't do it. I feel like I collect dust in my hair, or it gets caked with oil or pollen from outside. I feel sick (like I have a cold) and I get head aches. I do have allergies to dust and pollens, so I might actually have allergens in my hair. I've tried, but even with 'refreshing' my hair, I can't go more than 3 days without shampooing, or at the very least, using a cleansing conditioner.
I have to moisturizer regularly LCO method seems to work best for me and I can't shampoo to often. Finger comb is the only combing and protective styles still have to moisturizer with 4b 4c hair
When I was relaxed I washed every two to three weeks sometimes longer. Now I think I'm gonna have start washing weekly. Also when I wear wash n gos which I love I feel like I need to spray and refresh my hair often I guess because I'm high porosity I can't go days and days without refreshing like some people
@A1 hair type Beauty I have ultra-fine 4c hair. I can only rebraid my hair in 2 or 3 French braids every night. Everything else is too much manipulation. I wear flat twists and two strand twists for a week then redo them every week.
I learned that my hair/scalp likes it better when I wash 2x a month versus once every 6-8 weeks, and that I don’t require having loads of product sitting on my strands
With my 4Z hair, I have learnt that pre poo is great. I also use the onion and ginger treatment. Aloe vera and oil pre poo, sulphate shampoos once a month, bentonite clay every 3 weeks, Dax hair grease, whipped shea butter, infused oils, deep condition, finger detangling is a big NO NO, wide tooth comb and detangling brush is an absolute must, henna treatment......all these work for my high porosity hair. I don't use all at once but a combination of them. I deep condition every wash day. I re-moisturize every two days.
The few things I can't do is go 7 days without washing. I have to wash at least every 4 days or twice a week. I have less shed hair when I wash twice a week. I also can't skip oil and have recently went back to hair grease. That is one bandwagon I can't follow 😂. Love your content ❤️
What I’ve found with my hair is since I stopped using hair grease on my scalp and started using oils on my scalp instead, my scalp isn’t on fire anymore from itching. I only use hair grease to seal my ends since it’s more heavier than oils.
Can you pleeeeaaasseee upload the holy grail high porosity products video sooner? My wash day is coming up and I want to make the necessary product changes before hand 😩😩 and also I just stumbled upon your channel and thank you for all the knowledge you share with us! 🤗
My hair doesn't like coconut oil. It dries it out. Moisturizing every two days helps my hair. Jumping on every bandwagon is not good for me. I learn to be consistent and just stick with what works. Pre-pooing with fresh aloe vera, fenugreek, organic kelp and other oils mixed together has helped my hair. My hair likes when I use my fingers or a comb. I use the Aussie Miracle moist Avacado Australian jojoba oil conditioner and my hair loves it. Thank you for sharing. Love and Light.❤️❤️🙏🙏☮️☮️
My very fine hair does not like heavy oils or butters. No Castor oil for me or Shea. A creamy conditioner mixed with a bit of grapeseed oil works well on the strands, aloe vera juice on the scalp.
Real question: I have 4c hair, I am a wash and go girl, I don’t stretch my hair. I don’t comb my hair, I only brush at least 7 most 10 days, I never ever have any substantial shedding . I have tried to google if it’s normal but I can’t see anything. It’s so minimal. I love it. I am just curious if any other person experiences this and if it’s scientifically backed because I can’t find any article online.
I just found this channel, the information shared in this video is important, especially the point about sticking to what works. With my hair, I need to wash at least once a week, if I had the time I would wash it every 4 days, also I can't oil my scalp, that's a big no no for me, it causes intense itching, swelling and I basically have to wash my hair immediately
You really have to be careful what you listen to. What was said about combing the hair makes sense. Most said do not comb your hair during the week. Thanks for sharing
I'm 63 years young and let someone trim my hair in the spring. The back is not growing back. It' ok because I want it short anyway. My hair began to thin years ago and takes months to grow. Not sure if I cut anymore. Will look into this utube using horsetail, coffee and other ingredients to apply and wash out.
Thanks for the video. With my hair I have noticed a few times I cannot do wash & gos. My hair does not respond to it well. Hairstyles that call for me hair to not be combed through end up causing me to lose more hair and experience a lot of breakage. Although I am natural, my hair experiences very good growth when I apply heat once a week (which is my hair wash day)...when I blowdry on low heat and use my flatiron then I style it in a low ponytail and hold up the ends. My hair grows the fastest that way or when I use mousse on blowdried hair with my permrods and do a curly style. But natural styles like twist outs, braid outs, wash & gos are damaging to my hair. I cannot use a wide tooth comb to detangle in the shower I use a wet brush. Less hair comes out and never snag. Blessings~
I know this channel is geared towards the ladies but I have to say I love watching your channel because I feel like you answer all the questions that no one else even addresses. The what if’s and certain scenarios that people don’t even think about. Once my hair gets a little longer I’ll be able to put it in a ponytail or pineapple but unfortunately right now I’m at the length to where it’s starting to hang but it’s simply not long enough to put up at night. That’s literally the only struggle I have after discovering your channel. Thank you and continue to do what you do. Thanks for your post on my hair I cannot wear it out for a long period of time a week two weeks tops then I have to go back in to protect the style i.e. brain win anything another thing my hair can’t take his head for last for five years every single stock price I get I lose massive amounts of hair So unfortunately no more surprises no more blowouts for me ever once I grow my hair back I also can’t use half the product out there for my hair because I’m a sensitive scalp but pretty much my hair hates being manipulated and hates being touched so I have found crochet hair styles of been my go to for the last four years the minute I deviate from that and try to wear my hair out I lost my hair it’s frustrating and it’s sad it’s really depressing
i can't detangle when my hair is wet. It's like the strands get too saturated with water, become more elastic and break. So i do it before washing with conditioner. My hair also hates two strand twists. They don't hold unless i cake my hair with product or redo them 3/4 times so my hair understands what it's meant to do lol. But braids? They hooooold!

Your skin girl!! We need a skincare routine and products you use, please pretty please! Guilty as charged, I don’t comb my high porosity, dry 4C hair, it hurts to comb my hair that I make excuses 😢! Thanks for the products recommendations, will give them a try!
I cannot do weaves or wigs in my hair! I just hate the thought of synthetic hair. I am 34 yrs old and have never done it, and neither have my 5 kids. Natural all the way! :)
To each their own. 1st lesson on the natural hair journey. 😌👌🏾 I wash my hair 2 - 3 times a week. I live in hot temperate zone. ☀️☀️ I use herbal 🌿🍵infused olive oil, honey, black soap shampoo and hair grease. Once awhile I use egg 🥚 masks. I trim or dust my ends〰️〰️ when needed. ✂️✂️Low manipulation styles and scalp massages. I prefer satin pillowcase to scarf. I only use tangle teezer shampoo brush and boar brush for edges. I don't section my hair to wash. My strands can't stand anything gel even aloe vera. I have coarse, high density, low porosity hair.
I have learned that I must wash my hair every 6 to 10 days. If I don't fairy knots form along with increased hair loss. I also maintain a good moisture and protein balance with the products I use. If not my hair loses elasticity w/mousture overload. I also comb and brush my hair every wash day and sometimes during the week. I try not to over pick my hair or it becomes one big tangled mass. I have low density hair and this also will lead to more hair loss.
Yess! I use GREASE!
There’s Nothing wrong with using hair grease . Blue Magic , and Ultra Sheen in the blue ! Works Great !
Coconut oil has the same effect on my hair! I stopped using it years ago. The same goes for aloe Vera juice. It makes my hair stiff and straw-like.
Number 4: Don’t say; “I hate my hair!” We always create a unique masterpiece when we do our hair or have it done for us!
Videos like these seriously help me with my clinical depression and hygiene. Reminding myself I can work on myself little by little :)
It really does
I must detangle my hair at least every other day. I must shampoo every 7 - 10 days. No wigs, weaves, or synthetic hair in my natural hair. My scalp & head hates all of those.
I bought an expensive wig was planning to wear it, but it gives me headaches
I agree too...some of those fake hair for crochet braids cause my scalp itching irritation and soreness
You're not alone sugar. Same here. I can't even do twists for more than two days.
@@BuffyNoir140 its like my hair likes to be free and just be itself. Since I realized this I just take the best care of it and allow it to flourish in all its beauty.
I am exactly like you on the shampoo and wigs, weaves, and synthetic hair. I have tried and my scalp and edges says
" No I don't think so.
Yes! I spend an extra 90 minutes just to do medium twists on my hair at night.
But you don't wet it then right, because it will loosen the pattern?
@@jk9084 that's the point, we use water to stretch our hair so we can elongate it and it makes it easier to detangle. Once our hair dries we hope it retains the length.
I love to see the ONE WEEK SHAMPOOERS!!! Thought I was alone
Right here sis!
I'm the ONCE EACH THREE WEEKS 😅
I have been washing weekly for 6 years. I tell myself to go longer but mentally I can't.
I'm a weekly washer with shampoo!!! My hair takes a bad turn when I start reaching 10 days, so it's weekly for me.
@@bjmorgan3092 Same!!!!
With my hair I can’t exclusively finger detangle, I must also use a detangling brush or a wide tooth comb.
I have a crap load of wide tooth combs. My hair dresser uses those crazy brushes.
Me too! Finger detangling tangled my hair so bad I almost had to cut it one day!
I’ve learned that I can not keep a protective style in for long. My fine hair will break vs flourish!!
My hair starts to lock and I end of cutting out the locked part to detangle. Especially around the perimeter (nape etc)
I have fine hair too and this is so true!
@@jasmines.2829 my fine hair is the same way
Just really thinking about the detangling. Sometimes I feel like it is a necessary evil, because as you pointed out we have to get rid of the shed hair, but at the same time detangling can break hair off of it is done improperly, and sometimes even when you are super gentle it can still break.
Purchase the EZ detangler brush and detangle in the shower. The brush will change your life!
Your hair is weakest when wet, dry detangle with oil. Hempseed is good and its low on the comedogenic scale 👍🏾
Figure out what is best for you.
@@sonyapeach I concur!💯💯😊
You can't manipulate your hair and expect to have no breakage at all, whether you are detangling it or not. The point is to have the less breakage you can get but don't be too harsh on yourself
With my hair I found out that I have to moisturize my hair every 2 days and finger comb in sections delicately. Thank You for this much needed info always learning something from every video.
You’re welcome!
Same! I learnt that on this channel and it has CHANGED my hair for the better!!!
Same.
Day 1 is great, Day 2 ok. Then comes Day 3.... need to moisturize.

"With my hair I cannot" do the LOC method. I do the LCO method, with a little gel afterward. I do it section by section....my moisture lasts for 4-5 days. Love it!
I have noticed LCO method is better for me too
1. Combing
2. Cleansing
3. Bandwagon
When I was pregnant, I couldn't comb my hair because I was always too tired.
Yesss I completely agree with you that crocheting makes my hair fall out even more than box braids and box braids make my hair fall out too I don't want shedding hair so I just don't put my hair in anything anymore just basic dookie braid protective styles are fine with me
I am with you on the crochet. Did it once and I HATED it. It is just too hot of a style for me.

Get water friendly crotchet, and wash your hair. If a protective style prevents your from accessing your scalp, it’s probably not the best one. So modify it or find a new one.
I realize that I need to use grease as a sealant. I am not sure why some people are against grease and oils.
I’ve learned that too. The way my hair is set in these twists and was moisturized for days…
Grease is amazing!
@@CurlyChemistry thank you for sharing about grease my thin 4c hair is now growing. ❤️❤️

@@cfoster6804 I guess the shampoo will dry out their hair.
“With my hair” I can’t use heavy butters and creams because they weigh my hair down. Water based leave in conditioners seem to work well for moisture.
Do you have any recommendations?
@@hellokitty2552 I like the Mielle White Peony Leave-In Conditioner
Thank you for sharing Doris!
When you do protective styles you have to keep moisturizing
I can’t use combs. I detangle on wash day. I have to finger detangle first then use my tangle teaser. I use The one for fine/fragile hair it’s more gentle. Then I use my fingers until the next wash day. Having said that my hair are in twists most of the time so there isn’t really a need for tools throughout the week.
Sounds good Maya! I'm glad you discovered what works!
So you mean tangle teaser works better than wide tooth comb?😲
I have fragile hair too, ,😭
This is also my method
I do this too.
Clarifying shampoos strip my hair too much. I am going back to clay washes.
I learned that if I go more than two weeks without washing my hair cause my scalp speaks to me. And also putting hair grease in my hair after leave in, twisting cream keeps my hair feeling great. I've been a natural for 15 years and I've learned so much from watching your videos. God bless you.
I can’t use sulfate free shampoo or co wash. I need my scalp thoroughly cleaned to keep seborrheic dermatitis at bay.
@Willowdene Baker exactly, me too.
Apple Cider vinegar and water cleared my dermatitis in a month. I had it for 12 years. Spray your hair after you condition your hair. Wash every week. Good luck.
I learned that I can't comb my hair. A comb is not enough to get all the shed hairs out, I use a detangling brush instead.

Can’t do molded (gel, sprtz) hairstyles under the dryer. Major breakage 😔
I can’t use eco gel for my edges a lot, breaks off. If I use soft edge control, there is no control. Lol
I’m all natural going on 10 years.
I can't go for more than 48 hours without moisturizing and detangling my hair! I need to add water and oil or butter every 2 days then comb it out.
I can go 2-3 days with a protective style that’ll stay moisturized but I can only go 1 day with having my fro out and it needs rehydration. 😩
Maybe try a whipped butter to seal the moisture in.
That's awesome Nakia! It's defintiely a journey, but it's so worth it especially when you begin to learn what works best for your hair.
Yes, that's one of my favorite tips! :-)
Kitty Joy, the cold water rinse, locks in the moisture. 🤗
@@lindarandall8022 But for my low porosity hair if you do a cold water rinse and then try to apply a leave in or any other moisturizers the hair will have trouble absorbing it and then it just sits in top so that's why it doesn't work but I would think a cold water rinse works better for high porosity hair since they have trouble retaining moisture
Instead apply my leave in and put a plastic cap on for 10 mins to give it time to absorb and then use a oil to seal it in ☺️ my hair is now almost waist length

I found your channel it has been a great benefit I have learned the correct way to moisturize my hair and it is lovely. Thank you😄
@8:09
To answer your question, with my hair, I have learned:
• Combs break my hair strands (especially when soaking wet) so finger-detangling 100% of the time is best
• Putting oil on my scalp makes my scalp itchy and causes acne bumps to develop, so I can't do that. Instead, I spray my scalp with diluted tea tree oil and peppermint essential oil or even aloe vera juice after shampooing to keep my scalp under control
• The foam and suds from shampoo make finger-detangling my hair super easy and also makes it so I don't have to section my hair anymore on wash day because of how the foam sort of acts like a glue and keeps my clumped, detangled curls together.
She said it right because finger detangling does not detangle your hair
She said do what's best for your hair. Combing works best for some and finger detangling works best for others.
I need a wide tooth comb after finger detangling. My hair loves avocado oil and thick butters.
I have fine low porosity natural hair and have learned over the past seven years that simplicity is key! I mainly finger detangle, use black owned Ayurvedic products and do low manipulation hairstyles. My hair is currently at waist length 🙏🏾

I don’t understand how come her subscribers are always 118k😣😭😭😭She’s so informative 🥺..❤️
The few things I can't do is go 7 days without washing. I have to wash at least every 4 days or twice a week. I have less shed hair when I wash twice a week. I also can't skip oil and have recently went back to hair grease. That is one bandwagon I can't follow 😂. Love your content ❤️
Same here!! I thought I was the only one! Wish all of you a happy hair journey!! 😘
Hii! I’m so struggling with my hair curly dryness. What is your recommend for products shampoo and conditioner, and other products for wet hair
I can't just use oils without grease. Grease helps length retention sooo much in my hair. One went a month without grease and the breakage was so bad.
Oil is great for locking in moisture after moisturizering the hair
I have to per poo with coconut oil. I can tell the difference when washing my hair. It's doesn't feel stripped down.
Yay! Looking for the high porosity video! We need extra TLC!
I’m sure your subscriber really appreciate the connection that you are trying to create with us!
I have to wash my hair in twist it works better for my hair and I also keep my hair that way till the next time I wash or do something different with my hair....❣️
Do you have any material that you've covered that addresses alopecia? Most of what I've read and heard has not been from professionals and I would love to get your opinion and experience with it.
I need to hear from you on this no oils, no butters detox that’s going around. Please ma’am and thank you.
Me too
Thanks for your post on my hair I cannot wear it out for a long period of time a week two weeks tops then I have to go back in to protect the style i.e. brain win anything another thing my hair can’t take his head for last for five years every single stock price I get I lose massive amounts of hair So unfortunately no more surprises no more blowouts for me ever once I grow my hair back I also can’t use half the product out there for my hair because I’m a sensitive scalp but pretty much my hair hates being manipulated and hates being touched so I have found crochet hair styles of been my go to for the last four years the minute I deviate from that and try to wear my hair out I lost my hair it’s frustrating and it’s sad it’s really depressing
Thank you so much for the information. I'm a low porosity girl, and I have to wash once a week.
i can't detangle when my hair is wet. It's like the strands get too saturated with water, become more elastic and break. So i do it before washing with conditioner.
My hair also hates two strand twists. They don't hold unless i cake my hair with product or redo them 3/4 times so my hair understands what it's meant to do lol. But braids? They hooooold!
You have moisture overload and need to do a protein treatment
@@ghameurn i do protein treatments once a month. i'll test out wet detangling when i do my next one and see if it makes a difference cos i've never tried doing it after protein :)
Your skin girl!! We need a skincare routine and products you use, please pretty please! Guilty as charged, I don’t comb my high porosity, dry 4C hair, it hurts to comb my hair that I make excuses 😢! Thanks for the products recommendations, will give them a try!
Thank you! And yes try it and keep us posted! 💜
