    On February 24th, 2013 filming was done for a documentary in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy and 18 other Navy SEALs and Special Operations Forces soldiers who were killed during a counter-insurgent mission in Kunar province, Afghanistan. Lt. Murphy was an avid adherent to CrossFit, and after his death one of his favorite workouts was named after him.
    Sheepdog CrossFit trainers Seb, Rob, Chris, Sharen, Scotty, Paul, Alissa and Leah all completed the WOD "Murph". Regularly, the WOD "Murph" consists of: (while wearing a 20 lb vest as a substitute for body armor) a one mile run, followed by 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and finished with a one mile run. The Sheepdog team did this wearing vests ranging from 20lbs to 120lbs.

    Thank you kindly for the positive feedback guys we really appreciate it as I'm sure the vets do.
    Logan, at the fear of opening up a major can of worm I will simply say this: Crossfit is an elite and intense fitness program, as such injuries will inherently occur... Just like in soccer, tennis, MMA and so on ... It is extremely important to seek the gym that has reputable, experienced, dedicated and passionate coaches. Once you find that, Leave your ego at the door and EASE into it. Take your time before increasing the loads, learn the basics of all modalities and emphasize form over time. Once you are squared away start pushing.... And in turn help the newbies be safe.

    Wow, 120 pounds for murph is absolutely incredible. I can do a single pull up with a 60 pound vest added, I can't imagine doing 100 pulls ups, running etc... with double the weight.

    Awesome job. I did this two days ago and it sucked. But it's all mental toughness; you got to push yourself in a way you never had pushed yourself before. I finished Murph in 53:35 with all reps and 2 miles accounted for. Amazing workout and Murph seemed like an amazing guy. Bless all of our soldiers.

    Corny ? Ok, thanks for sharing your valued opinion. We truly appreciate your candid comment. As for training with a weight vest being bad for you joints .... This had nothing to do with being healthy but everything to do with honouring true sacrifice by sacrificing our comfort, safety and even health temporarily .... Thanks again for taking the time to let us know how you felt. Almost forgot, I have military service and I must say, if by being all broken you mean being able to complete murph with a 120 lb vest ... I'll take being "broken"

    I have to say that this truly inspired me. Thx Sheepdog Crossfit for doing your part in honoring and memorializing those fallen heroes. Please don't pay any mind to those negative comments (for which men and women like Lt Michael Murphy and etc have paid the highest sacrifice). I am a NYC Police Officer with 18 yrs on the job and a Marine who served during Operation Desert Storm and I personally thank you for what you've done. You guys are what
    makes the Crossfit community such a close knit group. Keep on doing what you're doing to inspire and ignite that passion for fitness! Semperfi Fi and Godspeed.

    The dude attempts something crazy on behalf something he believes in, showing principles. He doesn't just explain his motivations but absolutely pulls it off. You really think he shouldn't be admired? Shouldn't this inspire you?
    If you don't then I'm sure you have no idea what "personal development" means.
    This is an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT and outstanding example of how to pay tribute. If you don't know how respect is shown, look this through from end to end.
    I applaude this Affiliate and these athletes. I feel fortunate to have found and seen this video.

Your demonstrated part of our ethos "Never leave a fallen comrade," and I hope & pray that each Box will incorporate this method. So please, keep leading from the front!! I shared your video with my Box owners as we prepare do Murph, so that we'll encourage each other. This Monday will be my first time doing Murph, and after watching this video I'm amped. @Sebastian and the other good people at Sheepdog: Thank you for the most inspirational movie I have seen. I have shared it with all the people in the field that I know, and I watch it about once a month. It provides the monthly reminder about what really matters and makes the tiny voice in your head stop whining during a tough training session. Instead I kick in a higher gear to honor my fallen friends. Again, thank you.

    Awesome video, truly a inspiration. 120lbs is beastmode, honoring the fallen SEALs from Operation Redwings is priceless. I was part of the effort to find Marcus and his team as an infantryman in 2005, and its great to see people worldwide honoring those service members that truly put mission and teammates ahead of themselves. Also you have a great organization going as well. I fashion myself to be a Sheepdog, and its great that there are still others who have the same philosophy.

    Before I answer the disrespectful comment of evov monbly let me say this: the support we have received has been overwhelming and aside from a few pre pubescent unicellular internet warriors... We've received nothing but positive feedback, people got inspired and in turns inspired us to do better and push harder. For that we thank you.
    Evov, first of all the lady in the hijab was referring to walk the walk in terms of pushing hard to honour those who sacrificed... Not only those we lost but those that came back and paid a hefty price for us....second, the amount of assumption that you make must be an indication that your a self absorbed, confidence lacking douchebag and your failure to pay attention to details the confirmation that you couldn't see a pink elephant if you collided with it.... Some of us, several of us have walked the walk that you speak of .... Open your eyes and you shall see

    • @timeofreasonisnow
      @timeofreasonisnow 10 лет назад

      Fast food fitness ? Maybe I missed that part , but this is pretty fucking hard. I tried with a 55 vest tonight and due to my pathetic work ethic only half with jumping pullups with the vest and 50 reps without, squats were NP push ups okay, but split half dips half vested PU's . In my own defense , I just bought the vest and my pull up rig doesn't allow for kipping pullups ... I did however find a good way to run which lessened the back strain ...

    • @timeofreasonisnow
      @timeofreasonisnow 10 лет назад +1

      I usually do 100 pull ups a session 100 dips and a series of leg exes .. Thats a 7 day a week routine for the last 3 years ... mix in a little this and that ... but found I was bored .. This weighted vest thing re inspired me .. I need to mix it up and push myself again ...

    aint murph doing the whole 100pullups, and then go to 200pushups, and then do the 300squats ?
    I have seen this and a couple of clips doing like a "chipper" murph with a set of rounds instead (still a total of 600reps)??

      Thanks for your feedback and as for your question, Murph was designed to be broken down as you see fit ... Not breaking it down is another way to challenged yourself and depending who you are and how you train it could be harder or easier. I've ran this workout so many times I always switch things around to mix it up. Constantly varied, it should be !!!

    Excellent idea...finding the humanity in Crossfit! Personally I never bought into the über machismo in our sport. And still contend there's not enough emphasis made on the effort put forth by women in the armed forces, or those women who daily give of their lives to protect us. We need more hero wods named after women who've given their lives for our freedom, and less emphasis on Coach's troubled history with women. Only then we'll be fully honoring the power behind the human effort it takes to conquer our fears.

    • @timeofreasonisnow
      @timeofreasonisnow 10 лет назад

      I have lost friends in the " freedom " campaigns , and as much as I honour their commitment of courage , these wars are nothing more than securing the ENORMOUS wealth Afghanistan , libya and Iraq have in their natural resources. Afghanistan may become the worlds LEADING mining centre over the next 50 years and Libya and Iraq were awash with gold and oil/gas reserves. Don't kid yourself, NATO are just corporate mercenaries tricked into believing that big bad al- Killa is around every bush ... Just isn't the case .... Google afghanistan's mining and also libya and the petro dollar .. see why a friend turned into enemy number one after threatening the USD as reserve currency of the world
