ABANDONED Ford F250 - First Drive On The HIGHWAY In 25 YEARS!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 ноя 2020
- This classic 1967 Ford F250 was saved off a property a year ago by my son and me. It had been forgotten on a property by a farmer that had apparently given up on the truck. We did get it running, but it had a host of issues to still work through that kept it off the road. A year later, we're ready to get it on the road officially. In this video, we'll be putting a complete brake system including all hard lines, soft lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and even hardware, bearings, and seals. How do YOU think the first drive will go?

Anybody else find themselves talking to themselves, but using Derek’s voice? It keeps me calmer in the garage, and my kids have now gotten used to me saying “That’s fine, everything’s fine”. 🤣
No, no it's not *shakes head and walks away*
Please!, Help me to understand, What's goin' on!
I went to Walmarts today to get the wife some pears, the first baggy tore, then the second, and I said "Will someone help me understand?" lolz
Haha yes !! I was teaching my son how to make a coffee the other day and I said “ just get the old boilator over there “
RIGHT NOW! huh? who said that???? lmao OK, OK, OK, I admit it!
As a mechanic with 35+ yrs experience I'm so glad to see you sharing all this information from your thinkalator and helping the younger generations with the older stuff
I thought Bradly was going down once he started to do the limbo with that heavy wheel, but he pulled out of it like a champ. Good save Bradly.
This is a lucky kid. Hes got a pretty level headed father from what iv seen. He gets to learn a important trade at the best age. Hell do well...
Wow, a kid who wants to learn some valuable skills with his Pop, building knowledge, friendship and respect......city kid: carpal tunnel farm kid: hands full of callouses at 11 yrs old
Derek, so amazing that your kids are involved in your hobby. Says something about a Dad when his kids want to hang around with him. You and Jessica must be great parents!
Thank you Paul

I'm thinking that kid is just going to take over the channel one of these days!
Props to the kid, he took that tire to the face and didn't miss a beat.
And he has a smile on his face when it happens 😂
But I doubt he’ll call it a Goodyear
He's pretty strong too.
He'll make a good Boatswain's Mate
My grandpa would say it builds character
Hi there. I wanted to let you know that you have been really supportive with your videos over the past 3 weeks. I am recovering from corona and could not do more than lie on the bed. Your videos helped me get through the days. Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands 💪🏼👍 Dion

awesome, thank you
@@ViceGripGarage , it's mind bottling how much awesome content you put out and how fast you do it! I've had to learn how to use the bell thingy to keep up!

Love how he says 'I don't know' all the time...and he damn well knows.
You got to film your son learning to drive would love to see that Derek 🙏
Can't beat a father son project be memories he'll never forget
Some kids just aren’t interested in these things, what I learned from doing this from my dad I’ll never forget that’s forsure
“The cab mount, she’s Wi-Fi” ...
Made me roar with laughter!
Well, to be fair, the truck is at least 3 years too old to be Bluetooth.

Beat me to it. That one killed me.
I Laughed out loud too.
Yep I was waiting for that. I've never seen one of those old fords that didn't have the body mount delete. It's probably just a rust belt thing, but I have never bought one of these because of it, and I've looked at dozens. But after seeing the blind engineering just on the front axles, I'm glad I never found one. Talk about over complicating something simple.
Vice grip garage is literally my favorite channel to watch.. I really love the fact that hes out there bringing all these classics back to life after all those years sitting... Also even though he claims to be an "idiot" its very clear that he knows his craft very very well... I love the way he incorporates humor into everything. Dad jokes for days... 💯😆😆. Keep doing your thing man.. Id love to get into this myself..
We got a 66 f 250 two years ago when y son was 15 so he could learn to drive too. We are about to do the brakes too. We rebuilt the 352 engine and learned how to weld too. Great fun. Now we got a 64 Tbird for son number 2 they just put the engine back in it last weekend. It sure feels good working with the boys and glad to see you sharing the same experiences. My boys brought me to this sight after they kept calling the car parts by your names like sparkulators and fire maker. Love it.
Right in the feels Derek!! I was probably 11 years old when my dad taught me to drive his '67 F100 Ranger long bed on "back roads". Spending a lot of time in the middle with the underdash A/C freezing my giblets and only allowed to 'steer' occasionally. The moment finally came where I was behind that huge, skinny steering wheel, all those pedals down there (what do they all do?) and that column gearshift. I did quite well, I had that clutch held to the floor with my tippy toes and my knee locked. I wasn't gonna stall that 352 V8. There was so much going on!! Both legs dancing on so many pedals, my right arm shifting gears and my left hand keeping that big 'ol wheel centered with those tires "between the mayo and mustard LOL!!!!!". We were on dirt roads in undeveloped areas where you could shoot guns and drink beer while the dogs ran around.
You can take everything from me, but you'll never take the best memories of my life!! I am so glad to have front row seats for you to share those same memories with your son.
Keeping her between "The Mayo and the Mustard" ROFLMAO! Cold beverage shot right out my left nostril!
Thanks for watching
Same! Hahaha
Yeah that one got me too! I have started to steal Derekisms such as "the drinker's side" and "lightening whirler". Guess "between the mustard and the mayo" will be a new one.
“Ask me if i care, i dont” best line of the year
I love that this will be your son's first truck, it's great to see him working on it and seeing you teaching him the right ways..
“I gotta keep it between the mustard and the mayo” 😂😂😂
LOL, I was laughing pretty good at that one. This guy is full of funny things i've never heard before... Love it!
Can’t give it too much ketchup right out the gate
dude is setting the standards on being a dad. something to aspire to when passing the car life onto your kids
You’re such a good dad my dude. I hope to be like that when I have kids. Thanks for always being a great example to us younger folks.
A fella took a s10 apart 2 years ago and had a baby, then the truck sat untouched for a year and a half... after watchinging and listening to at least half of your videos in the past few months at work... now you got a fella making progress again! Thanks for bringing my drive, right back around.
A guy is only thirteen minutes in and wheezing! This is the funniest one yet!
Glad you're likin on it
Hope not, but might be from the asbestosis...
@@FangBlah A lot of people mentioning asbestos. I think in my own country (Australia) we banned asbestos pads in '03. In the US, you guys were ahead, and banned them a decade earlier. I guess there's a chance a truck parked for 25 years may have asbestos pads - still, I'd be interested to know if manufacturers started phasing them out before then. We've got older houses jam-packed with the stuff, so a lot of it's still out there.
@@FangBlah suppose a feller might do the right thing and go get checked.... Nope. :)
@@MattExzy Here are a couple interesting reads about it in the US: www.asbestos.com/

He made a point of showing the safety goggles, then immediately took them off and started blowing brake dust in his face. Yelling at my screen didn't help.
If I didnt know better the way he turned the brake adjusters he has the right adjuster on the Left and VISE-VERSA. Those adjusting cables pull the adjusting wheel up to adjust the brakes out, and Derick rolled the wheel down to extend the shoes out for more drag.
asbestos
@@billysmith5721 At least the kid wasn't there to coat those lungs early.
yeah... mesothelioma comes along years later to remind you of all the times you blew the dust out of a set of drum brakes with compressed air. My dad did brake work for about 40 years and it eventually got him.
There was a lot of crud falling out of the vehicle. I bet his boys spend some time sweeping the floor for dad.
I love seeing you working with your kiddo. Keep him learning! A wise old man once told me "if you ain't learning something new everyday, you ain't doing it right"
I just wanna say, I love how you revive old vehicles. I have never bought a new vehicle in my life. Also, I hate dry humor. I always have. It's not funny but I find you hilarious. Not sure why. Keep up the good work! Love your videos. 👍
By the time he's ready to drive full time, he is going to have a beautiful truck. Good job dad.

Seeing as how much you were swerving and countersteering, a guy had to wonder....Did you ever put the bolts back in the steering gear? 🤣
OH MY GOD!
I thought the same thing lol
My step-dad had a 67 Ford F150, and it was all you could do keep that thing on the road also. Those old manual steering beasts made you pay attention like nothing else.
That steering box is probably as sloppy as, well I don't have a good metaphor. We'll leave that to Derek.

Bradley - Today we're gonna work on MY truck!!!! Love it - raising him right!!! He's gonna be a chip off the ol block!!! Awesome - reminds me of my dad
I am seriously excited to see Bradley throwin gears n spinning the rig around. Your boy is a hell of a kid. He’s well mannered, polite, he listens, he helps (without complaining), he’s FAR from lazy, he’s learning so much so fast and over all just seems so thrilled to be learning so much with his old man. Basically he’s absolutely 180 degrees from all other kids his age/generation. That’s what we need now days in kiddos. I say that with the most utmost respect as the friendly neighbor and not the creepy uncle. Sad fact that I even needed to elaborate on that but now days it seems like a must. My hats off to u Derek and your family. You got one hell of a wife and a boy any true man would be proud to call his son. God bless you all and I hope he grows up to just like u. We need kids like that and not the spoiled lazy shitcans ppl have as kids now who aren’t even 18 and thinks the world owes them everything. Did I mention how parents need to bring the old ass whooping back and tell the government to fuck off when it comes to raising your own kid, long as your not breaking bones or separating joints they’ll be fine. Love the videos and keep em coming.
PS... Get a nice BIG dumpster for ye old truck stopper for Bradley so he doesn’t push it around too lol.
You are correct sir, 100%!!!
got home from work and my boy said "you got a vice grip"-no kinder words have been spoken.
Thanks for inspiring me to get my 1987 Mustang GT Convertible started. It’s been sitting for 14 years. Watching your show motivated me to start working on it.
"Gonna have to teach him to hit the dumpster. That'll stop him" My goodness, haha. 😂
Have a sub your profile picture is nice
Cant wait to see a guy teach a little one how to drive a stick, that's a modern day anti theft and a lost art. great work Sir.
"It's as dry as Betty White's back" ... lol
i asume thats extremely dry nowdays xD
Or maybe as dry as this guy's sense of humor. Deadpan delivery mixed with a car repair video? I just found this guy about a month ago, and he just tickles me. Detached, comfortable country humor that just goes down well on the ear. He'll unintentionally knock a huge chunk of metal off a car with a hammer and say, "Oh, well that'll just buff right out. We won't worry about that." It's a hoot.
Derek needs to host all things cars these companies are slacking big time
I though he said box...needless to say I about choked to death on my own spit LMAO
Great job Derek. Seems the family is also into your hobby. Your humor is one of a kind.. just funny one liners most of us catch ourselves using.
So glad to see you teaching your son the trade. In a few short years he will be doing the heavy work and you can sit and watch with a nice cool snack or two. 😎
thought you son did great when he pulled that wheel off ,for a second thought it might be to heavy ,but the little fella held on, great to see father and son working together !
A touch of anti-seize on adjusters will be a good investment.
Brad did a good job of staying with the tire when he took it off. For a minute, I thought it was going to take him down. Good job Brad.-
Really enjoyed watching you rebuild the brake system. I owned and drove a 1969 F250 Ranger Camper Special for about twenty years. In that time I renewed the brakes a few times, but I don't have all the tools you have. The lift makes it so much easier.
Total respect Derek
Some of my fondest memories are working with my Dad “RIP” and learning
Teach em skills besides modern games and texting
Sure did enjoy that one Derek, great music, you & i have the same taste, could'nt believe Bradley held that wheel & put it down, he's a strong kid to do that, his head saying dont drop it, those folks that sent him money, there's some lovely people out there, he wont forget that when he grows up, that pickup will be his pride & joy.
Well I'll be Dipped! I forgot about that phrase. My Dad would use that. He was a mechanic, this channel reminds me of my childhood reviving stuff. Thanks for your channel! It always brightens my day!
Love your channel VGG is the one Auto channel I watch every video of and go back and watch all your old videos to. You were meant to be in front of a camera! Got some great young men around you to help you out as well! Always look forward to new videos and and up watching every second! Thanks for having this channel for me to consume!
Just a quick thought, if you forgot to bolt the steering box back down, I imagine that could make her ride a bit squirrelly

Derek, we all seen Megan Fox in Transformers. Ain't no way a guy can get a torch that hot!
I can't remember having good brakes until I was in my twenties . Derek your spoiling the boy .👨🔧
I'm a landscaper/snow removal kinda guy. So January and February in Denver allows me time to sit back and relax and watch my favorite go fast channels. I was getting worried thinking Kyle at 1320 was going to let me down and leave me with everything watched and time to kill. But then You Tube was good enough to lead me to your channel. I have to tell you, that you've made a feller very happy that your highly educational information is presented in such a way that I can't wait to find out what else you might leave me rolling on the floor gasping for more O2 with! So please keep Tanya busy and rolling tape while you keep up the awesome work you do! It's a big thank you from Denver!

I think this F250 is my favorite of the VGG series. Even more wholesome that is for your son.
The boy damn near did a back flip when he pulled that first wheel off there.
Nearly broke the boys nose ,not funny . I hope he's ok .
I thought that wheel was gonna fall on him for a second!
"Went with the chilli, it felt good!" Love it dude! Keep bringing machines back to life, we all love that too!!

Roflmfao. That part had me rolling
Gotta tell ya, a guy was impressed. Mozzle go watch another one. Thanks for the hilarious video, Derek.
Appreciate it
Long time fan, I appreciate what you do. Thank you sir, for sharing. Get yourself a decent air hammer, useful for wheel studs both in and out, with the right chisel with a nice round or tapered tip can get them out in good shape. Chisel shape is whatever you need it to be, thanks to friendly bench grinder. Minimal touch up grinding perhaps and studs back in service. Wide flat hammer bits are great to massage knuckles around ball joints, go hard until you see the joint rust line break. Also works on brake caliper bleed screws, beat the area they thread into like a rented mule and watch for rust line break. It is an acquried skill, the more you use it the better it gets. I learned torch work first, cant argue with heat in the right places but its nice to do it cold if you can.
This is the build that got me interested in this channel. Please keep chippin' away at the improvements! Would love to see more videos and potentially donate for upcoming projects.
I about pissed myself laughing when he sprayed off the brake cylinder, and yelled "Get Some". Atta Boy!
Best way to get rid of them tailgaters is to have a big ol' engine in the back of the bed just ready to roll on out.
I just laughed for five minutes!
and be an avid user of the e-brake jerk that doesnt turn on the tail lights to let them know your slowing down , I love those moments when they nearly shit their pants as they get closer
Or haul railroad ties in truck bed without a tailgate or strapped down! Always had plenty of room.😁
As always, you leave us with a warm Glow at the end......So Happy that Bradley has a Great DAD like you....Thank you again......
I am so glad I stumbled onto your page. A great channel to sit back and remember the way my father talked when we were working together

I love Vice Grip videos and it is neat seeing him work with his sons. One thing I would like to mention on these old vehicles, you probably should wear a mask when messing with the brake shoes. They may have used asbestos in the linings.
I really don't understand how people give these videos a thumbs down. I crack up from all his videos and he's literally never frustrated nor mad in any of his videos. I'll bet those 190 people who gave it a thumbs down are the type of people when they get a little mud on their shoes it's the end of the world. People are just so miserable .

This F250 is what got me hooked on VGG. Ive got the ol F100 ive been wrenching on. We Want More FORDS!
Enjoyed seeing an update on the F250. The one where you and your son got her running in the field was my first VGG episode to watch, and still one of my favorites. Reason I watched it was because my son and I had just done a first start in eight years on the 70 F100 my dad bought new. We did all new brake lines and hardware just like you did, but I made my own lines with NiCopp...next time I'm ordering a kit like you did! WAY too slow a process to save maybe $100. It was neat seeing how the rear drums come off on a Dana 60...A LOT more work than my Ford 9", but I've got a 70 F250 rolling frame I'm hoping to build another truck on, so now I know what to look forward to! It's got front discs though, which is why I was happy to snag on buying that frame from a guy who parted out the truck.
I laughed when you were putting in the sending unit...I went through the EXACT same process on mine!
Every time I watch you and all them other "fixin' up junker" channels, I'm reminded how much fun this kinda work isn't. And why I quit doin' it.
Charlie Pride is 86 my grandma loved him.. You have good taste in music..
He was awesome. Grandparents watched him in Montana on their honeymoon at the bar. He was just startin out
When he came for a visit to middle earth way back in the I don't know may be like the early 80s or something. Fella got taken to one of his concerts in Christchurch NZ. Now that's a memory a fella can take some Pride in.
Hey Derek-
You probably already got to this, since it’s been since December, but the radius arm bushings are toast, and especially the rear one on the captain’s side.
I enjoyed this a LOT, as I did this same kinda stuff for 37 years ... steering and brakes and “under-car” stuff.
Kudos to you and the boys! Have fun!!

I really enjoyed the detailed work through on the old brakes. Not easy unless you know the language of stuck mechanisms, how metals expand differentially so heat can help (or plain burn out oil/grease). If you just swing at everything, it’ll be less enjoyable. Thanks for the edification 😎
