FREE Chevy S10 Pickup Will It Run and Drive after many years? | Part 1

- A feller that's subscribed to the channel reached out to me and offered up his 1986 Chevrolet S10 Pickup for FREE. It's been sitting for 16 or 17 years on a farm, is completely rusty, and really rotten inside. Appears to be a 2.5L with a S101 4 speed manual. So of course I said yes. Let's get it over to the shop and see what we've got! Think I can get it running and driving again? What should we do with it?

Growing up without a dad was rough. It always makes me smile to see a good one.
Big facts my guy.
Derek is stepping in as the dad who works on cars with his kids for all of us who didn't have dad's to show us how to work on cars
I just got yelled at for holding the flashlight in the wrong spot.
Right there with ya bud
Me too Zach

Agreed.
"We're gonna have to do a wasp delete." I'm dying man!
My favorite part of the video!
🙄
These "will it run" videos are my absolute favorite!
Plenty more comin'
Oh I know cuz this is really the dream of every man on the planet to come across a classic that’s just sitting for god knows how long and seein if she can run
When I first saw the wasp delete I honestly thought it was the greatest moment in cinematic history
That impact about flipped the son. This is what the world needs kids being taught how to work.
Milwaukee fuel impact ftw, will literally rotate your kid because of the torque.
They have the best toys, did you see that little bike and car at the end?
Awesome Dads get awesome kids.
Yea im been working on cars and trucks sets I was like 8 or 9
Derek for president 2024.
Great dad. Teaching the boy how to work and how to be a good dad.
You can tell a guy really loves his kids....wonderful family
Thanks, they're my world

A guy seems to be spottin' a Corvair over yonder. Hopin' to see an episode on that girl sometime.
You took the words right off my keyboard....
I concur
Came here to say this...
Looks like a '61 700. It's been in a couple other videos so they'd had it a while.
I'd love to see the Corvair too ! My dad had 2 of them and a neighbor when I was older had the monza of it ! A repair shop owner in my town as a kid had a station wagon version too.
"It's thicker than Shakiras thighs in there" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😅😅😅

I hate to tell you this Derek, but I think I saw your 10 year old joyriding this unit.
uh oh!
Whose got the keys??
😎
I don’t think it’s going to be the first time we’ll see him recycling some tires.
He ran the tires plumb off of it! Well...At least one of them.
I'm always looking for bees in under and on my projects. Now we have to worry about the Murder Hornets here in the Pacific North West! I like to use the weed burner to clear the area.🔥🔥🔥
“Do we have a battery charger left around here? I don’t think so” that was hilarious
"Gonna have to break out the big tonya harding" freaking classic
"One horsepower engaged" that kid will remember that for ever
Good times!
I had a good healthy belly laugh at that one too. Classic!!! ..
Between that and learning how to kill wasps He's good to go
I just want to mention what a fantastic job you're doing with those boys. Fine job sir
Thank you Lucas
“Don’t breathe that in son” pulls shirt over mouth lol.
Even after reading all of the other similar comments . . . I still have to add: your boys are blessed to have a pop that includes them in some of the processes!!!
Can’t say enough positive things about you being the very best dad you are Derek. Thanks for putting your positivity out there for the whole world to witness. What an awesome human you are sir . May you always be an outstanding role to not just your family but to all of us as well. Thank you
Derek, you have no idea how happy watching you working with your kids makes me, As someone who grew up with a father that helped me rebuild my little john deer tractor when i was 3, it means so much to me being able to watch another father do the same thing that mine did for me, thank you for raising your kids with a mechanical mindset, it'll sure come in handy!
So glad you have your kids in there with you. They'll pick up information about cars without realizing they are actually learning.
Derek I just love how your kids help out like true professionals,
unlike some kids who get co-operated into someone's channel and have no idea what their doing!
So matey big THUMBS UP for the little fellas :)
just love how you involve your boy, if children were able to get there hands on the tools and dad wasnt worried about his perfect paintjob the kids will hang out with dad and get that little extra bonding that they need these days. its almost unseen these days a father not screaming at his kids , you work well and i can see a special calmness in your boys eyes im done great job Feller
Well said man. Right on about the dynamic betwixt them.
Thank you Ron
Ron , your one of the reasons a feller reads through the comments, thank you sir!

It's nice to see a good Dad these days. I see it as our job to be better parents than we had for me that's not easy.
Yes, we are being spoiled this Christmas 🎄
Thanks for watching Steve
You ain’t kiddin.
This is the most hilarious but educational thing I’ve watched in a long time! Please carry on mate, I’m recommending this channel to all car enthusiasts I know!
So good to see you creating memories with your boys. Those days are priceless.
as my dad taught me can't be stuck if its liquid, but then again he was a master with the torch.
You are seriously the best auto channel on the RUclips's and a guy aint kiddin ya!!!
Thank you Jonathan
Love to see them young boys at work, you cant learn this shtuff on Xbox.
Most dads can’t teach this now.
@@michaelharris3296 Yeah I can only get myself in trouble under the hood, I can fix anything around the house though and I do make my boys pay attention.
amen
Nice you got the little man helping you today, he will be the only young man of his generation to know anything about repairing his own vehicle good for you!
I love how his kids are just used to his behavior lol, their like dad threw a battery, that's cool lol
Beats on the hubcap with the rear bumper...nothing unusual about that.

That's a good rig for the kids to practice driving in.

Really like how the young fellas are in there helping and not just to hold the "light" like i did when I was a kid lol
Wasp Delete...a fella's boy laughing off camera watching his legend dad!
Derek living the dream many of us wish for, thanks to all the hard work he has put into getting where he is today, good things happen for GOOD people.
Love seeing your boys involved in some of your projects. You're a good dad teaching the boys early.
Thanks Chuck
I love how the underlings have no reaction whatsoever to dad's jokes & antics. They just give the old man that blank stare that says: ' You done yet? Can we get back to it?' LOL
You can tell they really love hangin' with the ol' man, but they are completely unaffected by the Vice Grip schtick.
Fast forward 10 years when dad gets home and tells them his bought them their first car they will so happy , not stay safe cheers
Um, Corvair? Yes yes on the Corvair please.
Boy am I glad you got the 2.5 instead of the 2.2. The difference is astounding. I had a 2,2 and it barely puule the truck, let alone any load or climbing a hill. It sold it to a freind, he isn't speaking to me now.
Then I bought a Colorado with the 2.5 and it runs like a large six. Good little mill for small truck!
The main thing I look out for when digging through a treasure is the owner coming out of his house.
It will run and it will do a burnout. I can see the Future
Yeah, so do I.
Actually it's In the past in the short vidyas
Yep!!!
You sir are AMAZING I LOVE how you have your kids around you , and include them in what you do....You will remember , and they also will remember these times fondly someday , as I and my kids often do...and they often remind me of things that we did together when they were young ( they are both in their late 30s) ..Keep up the great work , and you will have followers for life !!!!!
Thank you!
I agree with this comment derek you have a very soecial relationship with all your family derek you rock
Well look at that. One person out there who hates life so much that they had to give this vid a thumbs down. Cheer up, guy!

I learned to drive on a 1985 GMC S15 that was very similar to this S10. Great little truck. Glad you got this one back on the road.

I just about spewed my coffee everywhere when you went after the wheel with the bumper and just smashed the minty hubcap.
I had an 85 with a long bed. Automatic transmission blew up 120k miles or so. Had it rebuilt for $750 dollars. It ran when I gave it away. It was a good truck. Hauled more weight than I thought possible. It was awful in wet rainy conditions. Had the 2.5 liter too. It was a very reliable engine.
Raced Iron Dukes for many years, one of the best engines ever built!🌞
I love to see the little guys helping out, maybe learning a few things.

Around a year ago I bought an ‘86 s10 2.5 4speed 2wd also. Pretty much identical except mines black. This thing had no compression, timing was all jacked up and leaked coolant into the floorboard. After messing with it for two days we got it running. It had been resurrected lol. Now Iv been daily driving it for a year without many issues. Absolutely love it!!
That is the absolute beat "wasp delete" I've ever seen!

The “Iron Duke” is a tough little unit. I saw the WV tag on the wall, adds a touch of class to this already great channel 😁

Only thing I'm scared of when digging through a new to me rig is the wife finding out about me buying it cause I "forgot" to tell her about it
“Watch out son.” Dads about to drag this puppy by a chain. Your such a badass in his eyes forsure lmao
I love the S10 Chevy truck, i have one and she is so beautiful and easy to repair. My truck is 2000 and i think never never change for other truck.
when you release the burn out video first it's a give away that it runs!!!! LOL

Bingo. Killer burnout tho
A feller could be using trickery and wizardy. You just never know.

thank you
Those old iron dukes will run forever, had one with close to 500,000 miles on the clock before she finally got tired, great little trucks, gotta Luv the S-10's!!!!
Always with the great content at the perfect timing !
Many years ago, my youngest son, about five at the time, wanted to help me change a tire. He saw me using a spinner lug wrench and thought it looked like fun. It was until he leaned in to close and got whacked in the jaw. He shook it off, I made sure he was okay, and showed him how to lean back and remove a tire. That same kid built a custom fresh air intake for an Infinity M35, with no check engine light. I almost cried, almost.
Derek, ya just made a fellers day with the notification of a new VGG ep! Love it thanks
Thanks for watching Dave
Such a magical combination of AvE and American corn farmer, I'm subbed for life!
Your going to have to look up zip ties and bias plies
Coming back to this one 3 years later... My stars the amount of progress you made in Independence. A feller misses that rig.
Love seeing the boys there learning and having fun....also great to see you making him wear safety glasses you only get one set of eyes
That’s part of learning alright. Amazing how fast it goes by.
We are definitely in the same boat about never having brakes on an old car. It's a curse, I swear it is!
Same here man...LOL
Poor Rocky, hope whoever got him. Brought it back around.
I miss my old 85 with the 2.8 v6 and 700r4. Was one of my favorite trucks. Wish I still had that one.
Haven't seen the vidja yet but for some reason a guy's got a hunch this thing'll run just fine...
We have to watch out for Samsquantch’s around these parts while digging through old rigs.
There's one right outside my f***in shed, Ricky!
Very handy that you installed a multi connector battree in the old girl. Don’t forget to install one of those fancy Kraco decks with amp, which will mount right up to the top post for power.
"She's tuned!!" LOL, smoothed it right out.
Just gotta get some rev's in em
Can't help but notice your kids never laugh your antics. This tells me you're pretty much like that all the time and it's normal for them. lmao
yeah, you nailed it
Had one of these trucks back in the day. Nice to see it again
I wish i would've had a dad like Derek, i grew up without my dad in my life, so everything i learned about working on cars, i learned on my own, i wouldn't trade that for anything
24:09 you get a nice lightning show. That’s fac tree 🤩
main issue for working on My cars here (Australia) is redback spiders(they hide in the day time, you can shine the torch at night and eliminate them with the brake rejuvenator and fire also) they like to hide in the perfect spot where you can barely fit your sasquatch hands etc while trying to undo a bolt/screw/clip etc.. results in a hospital visit i'm told...(now i think about it, this could be the subconscious reason i can't seem to work on My cars lately. Hidden fear of death by most painful bite imaginable followed by a hospital visit)
glad i found this channel, so many relatable, entertaining stories and some great warnings/advise
