Attempting a 600 Mile Drive In a FORGOTTEN Chevy S10 (multiple Issues)

- After doing some professional paint correction, adding some nice new tires and wheels it's time to see if this 1986 Chevrolet S10 pickup will make the 600 mile journey from Eastern Minnesota to Northwestern North Dakota. That is where I plan on giving it to my brother for free and he has no idea. Of course this would not be a vice grip garage journey without plenty of obstacles in the way including sub 0 temperatures and no heater. Will I make it? Watch and find out!

LIsten Derek (and Kevin @JYD) keeps me interested and entertained enough so that I watch all of his videos and priortize them for when I have time to really relax and enjoy them on the big screen like the fine film productions that they are - and you guys, I don't even drive. I never had a driver's license and have never been interested in cars. Between you and Kevin and Scotty Kilmer, I have started noticing makes of cars and things like that, I never did before. Maybe I'll even learn to drive (I'm kind of old for that! :-)

Hey, Derek, Check your pedal assembly mount! My ex-girlfriend's trooper did that, and I replaced EVERYTHING at least 4 times, and came to find out, the pedal assembly was cracked and bent all over!! Replaced the pedal assembly, and she worked perfectly.

I had a newer S-10. The engine was fine though it wasted gasoline. Stupid transmission and transfer case always needed work.
Front lower ball joints had to be replaced twice in a 4 year period.
Or that pesky intake manifold gasket that commits suicide.

I watch faithfully, I have to say I love this show. I lost my son shortly after he was born so seeing you show your son how to do things like this hits a fellar in the feels. A guy misses his old '93 S10, last of the square body. Never cared for 94's on what with all the swoops and child safe corners. That '93 and I had some fond memories after 380k or so miles. One fond memory was when the truck needed its second replacement clutch and the broken springs fell between the clutch disk and flywheel rendering the clutch pedal useless. Sure, a feller could've replaced it right away, but I did the right thing and just kept on driving it daily for the next 6 months, and replacing both the clutch disk, and a starter. Have to say though, I got pretty good at RPM matching for shifts, even for downshift. Also learned the space to drop and replace that starter was tighter than Roseanne Barr's girdle.

I prefer to delete those old mufflers and replace them with galvanized fence post. It gives them a really nice sound!

What a journey! I always enjoy watching your road trips. However, this one was different. The fact that you fixed this rig up to give to your brother, and seeing how many challenges you went through on this trip, you got to see family, and you got to hand it over to your brother in the end. Had an 88 GMC flavor of this truck, bought it cheap, replaced the throttle body and distributor and it ran good for 5 years, 4 speed was fun, but coulda used a 5th on the highway. Great job Derek, love your sense of humor, I need a T Shirt that says, " That's fine " .... Love your channel and your ability to revive forgotten rides....Eventually sold the truck for nearly double what I had in it, was my first fuel injected vehicle ever...

I had a 86 s 10 a while back, and i loved it. One of the best trucks i ever owned and i have owned dozens as a contractor. Vortec 4 cyl but it was strong. Looked good too. Kinda like this one...no not even close;-). Thanks for the video. Always fun and interesting.

i drove an 87 S10 with a 5 speed manual for 13 yrs, changed the engine once and rebuilt the body with new paint once. replaced most of the interior other than the dash. replaced the bench seat with factory buckets and consol. put in a tilt wheel and power steering too. was a great little truck. it was a Manitoba truck. it had over 635 thousand kilometers on it when i finally retired it. the origional iron duke overheated and cracked the head. couldn't find another engine for cheap so, I put pepper in the rad and plugged the crack. got another year out of the engine before i finally found a replacement Duke.

I would like to add a suggestion on rusty bolts and nuts. My. Dad and I had to remove large machines from the floor. Dad would get a bottle of warm coke and pour it on the nuts and floor bolts that hold down the machines. Works every time.
Man you’ve made me feel good about my mechanic skills. I mean I put the sparkilators in the gas tank and the ice cube juice in the cup holder. But my 72 mustang has never ran, better late than never lol.

They got these new gizmos so as you can just drill a hole saw thru the bottom of the gas tank and drain all the crud out and install it so it plugs up the hole.
Watching this series has been an absolute barrel of laughs for me, because every problem I've had with my exact same model, he is having. The stupid alternator/tension adjuster thing is ridiculous, but we had to do the same thing. Very much enjoying.

Have made so many of those with one sketchy vehicle or another at various times in my life, but with some regularity when I was younger. $42 and change in my wallet, a hand full of miscellaneous tools, pre cell phone and, no one to call for help in any case . High adrenaline adventure, living life. Nice job on the video. Keep 'er between the ditches.
