EXACTY forge world just made retro Steel Legion and called them Death Korps.
Unfortunately it's a pretty common misconception and considering how similar their motifs are it's probably only going to get worse.

The fact that these guys have saved their world twice and still have it (unlike the cadians) only adds on to not just how chaddy they are, but how criminal it is that you can't buy them for guard models that much anymore.
I know that Ork Invasions is nothing to scoff at but having your planet literally in the front of the biggest door to the warp might be a bit hard to protect.

these guys and the Maccabian Jannisaries are the coolest looking guardsmen imo. also the Tempestus but idk if they count as guardsmen or not.
They do, it's just they get extra special training in the scholarium and so are in a league far above the vast majority of the guard.
The scions are all orphans of dead imperial officers and families. Trained from a extremely young age to be as fearless and courageous as the emperor himself.
Heavily indoctrinated and drilled till injury these guardsmen are expected to take on the most dangerous and volatile tasks imaginable on the battlefields.
The closest a human can get to even the most vestigial tips of becoming a space marine.

The fact that they sold first kill team with kriegsman , instead of steel legion (which would make a lot more sense , since orks are their main antagonists , is outrageous)

Sadly pretty much everyone mistakes them for the Death Corps of Krieg.
While other Regiment throws shit load of Guards to the enemies, these guys throws shit load of Tanks instead.

If you're making an Imperial Guard regiment one thing to ask yourself is does the planet they come from send their best, or do they send their worst or do they just do what they can to "put bodies in uniforms."

Ever since the Horus Heresy (a big civil war a long time ago) the Imperial Army was divided into the Imperial Guard and Navy, but also reorganized the Guard into the regimental system. To sum it up, to prevent any one regiment from being too big of a threat in case they turn rogue each regiment has a speciality. Pure infantry regiments, pure tank regiments, pure artillery, etc, limiting their combined arms but this was expected to be made up for by each regiment supporting one another. As such, the idea of mixed or mechanized regiments is pretty taboo among the Guard and Imperium... with exceptions.
The Armageddon Steel Legion has proved time and again their loyalty to the cause, but the constant need for troops to defend their homeworld from Orks and Daemons had given the Legion plenty of leeway when it came to the organization of their regiments and so the Armageddon Steel Legion is one of the few Regiments that are allowed to have truely combined arms formations rather than janky multi-regimental brigades.
I consider them the superior version of the Kriegers because they aren’t memed to death

That's supposedly what they specialize but in Hellsreach they were always on the defensive, it's an awesome story but that's kind of unfortunate.

The designs are very distinct with colouration and the way the gas masks are, but also: the death korps of krieg and seige/trench warfare specialists. These lads are mechanised assualt specialists. 2 completly different styles of warfare.
Steel Legion: The guys Sabaton sang STEEL COMMANDERS about. A very underrated IG Regiment that have been overshadowed by the Death Korps who even have a very similar Gas Mask and Trench coat cheek. In fact sometimes I think the DEATH KORPS kinda ripped of the Steel Legion in a lot of ways.
After Yarrick's death at the hands of Angron, I think there might just be in the offing a truce between the Imperium and the Orkz of Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, to join forces against that Chaos Primarchs and all the other Spiky Gits in Yarrick's name. WAAAAAAAAAAGGGH!!

I like 40k for the over the top satire. So the fact that the steel legion are just criminals given tanks and a rifle that then fight the ork whichever are even more ridiculous and they fight on a planet called Armageddon that is basically uninhabited is why they are my favorite regiment.
sad that so many people see the steel legion as "ww2 kriegers" the way individual steel guardsman can be portrayed to be much cruder and rough rather than slapping another german accent to them.
