  • Both of these cases are fantastic but there are noticeable differences between the two other than size. The Corsair 7000D Airflow has several improvements over the 5000D that warrant the extra cost. Honestly you can't go wrong with either case. They both have fantastic airflow and lots of room.
I personally use the 7000D because of the extra room and the hinged panels for easy access to the mothboard.

I got a 5000d and upgraded it with more glass to an X, wish I got a 7000d just for the extra space around everything... the 5000 is cramped.
The biggest problem with these cases... is the inacessibility of mounting harddrives. You have to access them all through the back panel, which once my computer is up and running and in place with the back against the wall, is impossible to do. There is no way to access them from the front glass side. Sometimes you need to temporarily attach another harddrive for drive to drive copies, or a CDROM, and these cases make it impossible, or just upgrade your drives when you run out of space. For me, I'd have to disconnect everything, pick it up, and move it somewhere else, and then take off the back side, do the upgrades, reconnect everything, and hope it worked the first time around.
Otherwise the cases are built well, but all that glass and steel to support it makes them... heavy. The X even more so.
Unless your PC is in someplace where you can show it off and impress lots of others, you'll run them always with the grill and glass removed, so you might as well get the D. All that extra money I spent on extra glass was kind of a waste, as it just stays off now and inside the cardboard box. I did not end up showing of my PC as much as I thought I would. I use it for work.
Avoid the Corsair LC100 Nano RGB triangles, they are flakey and fail a lot.
The extra price for the 7000 is excessive for just a little more room everywhere. It will make your build process more enjoyable though having the extra clearance around the motherboard edges to make all those little jumper connections.
13:02 Maybe someday I'll rebuild it all in a 7000d case.. and try and orient two harddrive cages stacked on top of each other facing backwards to the glass front side, without the plastic shroud on, so I can connect and disconnect them and get access to them. Dunno if that will work. Or just move over to a different case entirely with more accessible harddrive cages, or move to NAS.
Get an L shaped GPU support bracket for yours, I think I got mine off Amazon. It bolts on to the thumb screws on the empty PCI slot and looks pretty good and works and is available in white. I had to squeeze a little Intel Nic under it to fill one of the slots and it was possible. On the 7000D if you get a 3.0->2.0 adapter you can access all 4 usb spots at the top

Been reading some posts that the glass door on the 7000D can be prone to sagging. The hinges are only attached to the glass by some adhesive and the glue can lose its grip if the door is left open for a few minutes due to its weight. That is a concern. Did you ever notice such a thing?

I have not noticed any sagging. The hinge is attached to a long strip of metal and I am assuming it is then glued to the glass panel.

Great video, I'd recommend that you cut to close ups of the systems so you can say the info without looking at it on camera. Otherwise it makes it look like you don't know what's what.

Is the hidden cable space the same depth for both? Looking at getting a Shift PSU and wondering if there will be room to bend all the cables up without pinching them too badly or cranking on the connectors. If the 7000D has a deeper niche, that might be worth the extra weight and $$.

The 5000d has more space at around 1.5 inches deep vs 1.25 inches for the 7000d. The 7000d has a 3 slot vertical gpu bracket, causing the back plate the motherboard screws into to be pushed back. Still lots of room though.

@@jackshardwarenice. Was hoping to keep my tower the same size, and the 5000 is almost exactly the same…the 7000 would have been almost too tight for where it goes. And tougher on the wallet too!

I have the 7000x and the Shift RM1000X. Without the secondary door there is plenty of space. However as I have cable extensions, I've folded the excess above the psu. I'm using 5 out of 6 HDD cages so I have only about an inch of space in front.

How heavy was the 7000D after it was all built out?

How about the 5000d? The 7000d is nice, but the weight might be an issue for some!

@user-xj6po5xx1j the 4000d would probably be around 40lbs. Still not light.
