Dear Fellow Texans. I am a 1980 graduate of SMU and the SMU Mustang Band. I have always respected our former SWC foe for the rich traditions and the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. Always.
I have been a Texas Longhorn fan since 1958. I am also a retired United States Marine and Vietnam Veteran. Nothing beats the Aggie War Hymn for firing up your soul and God bless every Aggie that done the uniform of our country to fight for our freedom. I love this band and the Corps of Cadets and all that they stand for. I am so sad to see the greatest rivalry in college football coming to an end.
Playing this song in the band was the best and gave me so much pride. This song, noble men of kyle, ballad of the green berets, spirit of aggieland, and Patton were my favs. Go crappers (baritones) and b-batt!!
As a lifelong Dawg, I'm thrilled to have the Aggies join the SEC, they were always my favorite Big 12 team and now unless their play affects the Dawgs they will always have my support. They are a rare breed of passionate and tenacious individuals its hard not to like them.
The4thaggie Yeah "Recall" is the bugle call that is played right before you would say "Hullabaloo". So he's basically telling the trumpet corps what to play. Even though I'm sure they would already know.
I've had several friends graduate from Texas A&M. I'm proud to claim our youngest son-in-law, an Army LTC, Texas A&M tackle, member of the Corps of Cadets and graduate!
As a future Aggie (Class of 2022), I love this war hymn. I actually wrote the lyrics to my high school's fight song based off of the lyrics of the Aggie War Hymn. Gig Em
I'll be going to Sam Houston State because they offer my intended major, but I'm still gonna love the Ags. Greatest school on Earth. You can't spell "stupid" without "t.u." Let's give it up for the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band! And for the Aggie War Hymn, the world's longest fight song! Go A&M! Saw their horns off and beat 'em all to chig-gar-roo-gar-em! WHOOP!
The same was done for my granddad when he passed away. He went to A&M and served in the Army during WWII. He also collected drinking cups from every home game he went to. Sadly, we no longer have that collection.
The song "Power" (Texas A&M Univ.) is played as the football team entrance piece just prior to kick-off for the AGGIES at Kyle Field. Some are claiming.."yeah, it's racially slurred and profane, but we don't sing the lyrics (progress here as at least some are admitting that racial slurs and profanity are not such a good idea).. But,what if the song contained lyrics promoting cop killing? Or encouraged the resumption of slavery? But were not voiced of course...(at this point some even might believe lyrics are not part of a song-huh?) Would the song remain acceptable? Others have suggested it's OK for a person of color to use these shameful and hurtful slurs...is this not racist in itself? That's a confusing and dangerous road to take. It's not OK. Would Dr. King give his approval? Regardless, the extreme profanity in the song's lyrics should make the decision much easier. IMO, when the song was selected, someone dropped the ball here. Big time. Both the team and fans deserve better than this. It's tradition now, but does that make it any less toxic and inappropriate? Google the lyrics...you'll be shocked. A state supported institution no less...Would there be any negative consequences if another song, lyrically devoid of racial slurs and profanity was chosen as a replacement? A&M has an optimal opportunity here at becoming part of the answer, not the problem. What hinders us from doing the right thing?
@Radon11209 LOL, couldn't be anything else. I'm a Florida fan, and I'm sure fans of everyone but y'all's arch-rivals love the Aggie War Hymn. (Presuming they've heard it!) USA Today ranked it as the best college fight song, and I'd have to agree.
@sloan0777 "Late one night, when the t-sips were in bed, Old Sul Ross put the lantern in the shed, The Aggie kicked it over, and winked his eye and said "There's going to be a hot time in Austin tonight!" "

Actually...My Great Uncle Vernon wrote this. James Vernon Wilson, AKA Pinky. about Oct. of 1918, as near as our family can pin down. Not in a foxhole, but in a Rain Soaked Trench on the far right of the French/German Lines, while with the 6th Marines of WW1. It was written on the back of my great great grandmothers letter to him most likely at first. He was Born on Our Wilson Family Ranch, in 1897. He GAVE this Yell Song to Texas A&M in 1920, as a gift. It has been added to over the years.
+Michael Vandigriff Those piccolos are doing fine representing that smaller voices can still be heard, besides piccolos are always played an octave higher than all the other music.
62 yrs old and everytime I hear The War Hymn, it brings tears to my eyes.....God Bless Texas A&M and what it stands for.........

I may be a Longhorn fan but I have damn respect for the Texas Fightin Aggies War Hymn. I’m a veteran and that hymn makes me damn proud to be a Texan.
5 words. 25 letters. Say it and I'm yours.
"Recall! Step off on Hullabaloo!"
What great music the brings a tear to my eye and fire in my belly. Gig 'em Aggies!!
Drum Major says "Recall! Step off on 'Hullabaloo'!"
I've wondered what he was saying. Heh.
The4thaggie Yeah "Recall" is the bugle call that is played right before you would say "Hullabaloo". So he's basically telling the trumpet corps what to play. Even though I'm sure they would already know.
Next April 2020, I will attend my 50th reunion at Texas A&M, can’t wait! Gig Em, Aggies!
I've had several friends graduate from Texas A&M. I'm proud to claim our youngest son-in-law, an Army LTC, Texas A&M tackle, member of the Corps of Cadets and graduate!
William Carter so your son in law played football AND was in the Corps of Cadets? He must’ve been a master at managing his time while there!
As a future Aggie (Class of 2022), I love this war hymn. I actually wrote the lyrics to my high school's fight song based off of the lyrics of the Aggie War Hymn. Gig Em
Why didn't you ever end up joining??:(
Isn't that plagiarism to some degree?
Still get goosebumps every time I hear this. Gig em!!!
I'll be going to Sam Houston State because they offer my intended major, but I'm still gonna love the Ags. Greatest school on Earth.

hey does anyone know what the really high-pitched instrument is with the melody? it almost sounds like squeaking but a good squeaking
maybe a bunch of flutes?
i believe that is it. thanks.
What good is a hymn without the WORDS.....good band, but where are the singers?
Great song but is the end part a separate song or add on to the war hymn if the end part is a separate song I need the video
Why did you have to point that out? Now it's all I hear when I listen to this!!
What are the lyrics after the "Varsity's horns are sawed off" part?
Saw off 3 times, then SHORT
Late one night, when the teasips were in bed,
Old Sul Ross took a lantern in the shed.
The Aggie kicked it over, he winked and then he said,
“It’ll be a hot time in austin tonight.”

Gig 'em!!! My future School!!!
What is the drum major saying before the step off? The only thing I can make out is "hullabaloo."
That means beat the hell out of Texas (UT Lonehorns)
Recall! Step off...on...hullabaloo!
GIG 'EM, AGS!
@sailette01 EVERYONE at A&M knows the words and sings along, just another example of the family that A&M is, we have no need for "singers".
Two words: Gig 'Em!
2:51 is that their TD song?
You are indeed correct. "Late one night, while the t-sips were in bed..."
