They didn't need their mommies with them when they murdered an innocent woman and hid her body...so I'm sorry if I don't feel sorry for them and how the police handled them. I respect however that there are rules and laws....I hope that the prosecution is able to overcome what the Miller defense is trying to pull...if this gets thrown out bc evidence can't be used based on how it was obtained, then a murderer will walk free, and the victims family goes on without justice. I love my kids, but I would not protect them if they were involved in something like this.

I'm sorry but in this scenario it was the police and the prosecution that tried to "pull something" and if those boys walk free - that's on them. Just like Stephanie said, law enforcement did a piss poor job completely unnecessarily considering the amount if evidence they have had. The laws are in place to protect everyone, you included, from a wrongful prosecution and we all know those happen all the time.

I agree. I think that the justice system is flawed and that police fucked up if what his mom is saying is true... however he was old enough to know what he did was wrong, he's old enough to do a crime, so he needs to do his time and mom needs to realize how serious this is. He doesn't need mommies permission to speak. He's a big boy.

Agreed. Part of being a good parent is allowing your kids to face the consequences of their actions. It doesn't mean you don't love them or won't help them through it, but it does mean you don't help your kid shirk responsibility. He beat someone to death. That takes a lot of force and time to do. It's not like he accidentally ran over her when she was jogging at midnight and he was supposed to be asleep at home.

Working in education, this story is incredibly troubling and telling regarding the treatment of education professionals by students and parents who refuse to hold their children accountable and think they can do no wrong. Many teachers and admin cite that the entitlement and absolute out of control behavior demonstrated by students is what leads to high burnout and turnover. Parents aren’t parenting, then take the side of their children no matter the situation, and admin’s hands are often tied and at the mercy of these kids and their families. This seems like the extreme of what has been happening across the country, but a horrifying thought that being a strict teacher these days can get you killed by the very children you care about and work so hard to help. I hope Nohema and her family get the justice they deserve. It scares me to think what will happen if others get the idea they can get away with something this heinous if you don’t like your teacher.

That we should start with only positives since its first marking period. That we should show empathy first. Meanwhile, we are fearful of the kids themselves, and dread meeting the people who are raising them.

@@ashleyruma9591 I'm at the other end of the scale. When my son was in elementary school, I went to parent teacher conferences and found out that my son had not been turning in his homework. He did complete it, because he sat at the kitchen table to do it while I cooked. I even helped him if he had questions, but he neglected to turn it in to the teacher. Of course I became concerned because I realized that he was going to fail the class, as 50% of the grade is homework. So I asked the teacher about him repeating the grade, she said, "Oh, no, he's very intelligent. When I call on him in class he usually has the correct answer. I'm going to give him a B-." I was appalled. I asked her why. She responded that "it will look bad on the school" if she doesn't pass him. I was horrified. The following year, I decided to homeschool my son, to hold him to higher standards than the schools in my area.

She was pregnant with her last child when her oldest daughter was pregnant with the first of her five sons. I was in high school and visiting my grandmother, only a mile and a half away by road, on foot in the country. I got to her house and she was on the phone with a friend who was worried about a grandchild. I remember it so clearly. My grandmother told her friend, "If they don't know right from wrong by the time they are 16, they never will." I know not every kid is the same. However, there is a pattern of moral development, that despite the fact that yes, the pre-frontal cortex responsible for impulse control isn't fully developed until 25. Doesn't negate the fact that by the time we're two years from being old enough to register to serve in the military, from voting - that we really do, as human beings, know what is right and wrong according to the society we were raised in. This is a discussion that we probably should have as a larger society. It could be we need to see why kids like this are apparently so dismissive of the life of another.

I understand that parents want to protect their children but…these monsters literally MURDERED someone. How can you in good conscience still try to defend your child and try to find excuses? Okay, so the cops didn’t properly interview your son, he still MURDERED someone. This case is such a tragedy. If they’re this young and capable of committing something so atrocious then they should never be released. I hope they never get to live a normal life after taking away someone else’s.

Hes 16, brains not fully developed, no life experience, no travel experience, no emotional maturity. PARENTS know that. Good parents know that. And having to ask to see your child during a police interview and denied is illegal in a lot of states. The whole issue of this case isnt about the parents protecting the kids, its the fact there is a possibility he wasnt allowed to see his mother and he was a minor.

I lived in America for two years and did a few courses at a local college as a mature student. I worked hard at the art courses I signed up for but there were some students who were only doing them for the extra credits and put in next to no effort. When they only got B’s and C’s, which I thought was generous, they cornered the teacher and became vocally aggressive, demanding he change the grades to A’s. I couldn’t believe it when he gave into them. It’s terrible what teachers have to put up with. That was in the early nineties so I can only imagine what it’s like now. It comes down to poor parenting and the prevailing culture. In this case, judging be the behaviour of the mother here, I would assume poor parenting. A terrible case, I feel a great deal of sympathy for that poor woman and her family. The monsters who did this should rot in jail.

It is a lovely town. Neoma also taught in the town I live in briefly and my adult children knew her. As a high school teacher it is unsettling to think students are capable of such violence. Pray that God lays this upon his heart to have mercy on us before it gets too cold😭 I feel I’m in a safe space here. If I didn’t really need prayer I wouldn’t be asking for it. Stephanie thank you for letting me post my prayer request. I appreciate you very much and I feel that you will understand. I’m older and this is not ok😭 and I sure hope I don’t bring everybody down. God bless each and everyone here.

happy tears because after about one month of taking cold showers which doesn’t seem like a terrible thing until you have to do it. Three days ago I posted this asking for prayer. Today they replaced our hot water heater with a new one😭 for everyone that prayed God bless you and thank you. And seriously it’s been like two years that I have not had a refrigerator. But my freezer does work. So this is really truly a miracle! And I know that people will judge me and please don’t. Please don’t victim shame me because I’m an older lady and I can’t afford anything else right now. I’m just feeling so happy and appreciative😭 and I just can’t thank you enough for your prayer because Jesus heard it and I’ve got a hot water again! And it’s amazing that this is the very first night here in Austin that our temperatures have dropped down to 38°. That shower would’ve been torture. I’m happy 😀 Thank you Jesus 🙏 Thank you who prayed! God is so good. I feel so thankful 😭

People are becoming more and more ruthless at younger and younger ages. I feel like we need to close some of these loopholes that allow these monsters out if it’s pretty obvious they committed the crime. Just my 2 cents. I’m like you Steph and don’t like to give much slack to people we know who are dead to rights guilty. Yes, we should make sure they are convicted fairly, but all these legal gymnastics to get a guilty person off the hook just angers me so much. Anyway, great video as always! I agree. Here in Sweden gangs are using young kids to commit murders and other serious violent crimes because children under the age of 15 can’t be prosecuted here. I’m not saying we should throw little kids in adult prisons, but something needs to be done about these loopholes.

There’s a quote in some US documentation, don’t think it’s the constitution, but it’s somewhere in a document like that, and it says how 10 guilty people getting off will always be better than one innocent person being convicted. I thought about it a lot, and the more I did, the more I agreed with this statement. It can be very frustrating, but not as frustrating as lazy police, and a lazy legal system. The system is supposed to protect innocent people, obviously it’s a very flawed system, but innocent until proven guilty is an aspect I would never change. If I was being wrongfully convicted of murder, I would be grateful for all the legal gymnastics that could potentially save my life.

Human rights is the way society protects people from harm done to them by others. As far as I’m concerned once you stop being a functioning member of society and harm others, you forfeit those rights. We as a society around the world think too much about the rights of perpetrators rather than the rights of the victims. She had the right to have an afternoon walk. She had a right to grow old. She had a right to live and they robbed her of those rights. Now she has the right to justice and they want to take that too

Haven’t finished the video, but as a criminal justice student I wanted to add my two cents: If Miller signed a waiver then the police didn’t have to stop until he specifically asked for a lawyer. It sounds like his mom is just angry her precious son got caught and she didn’t bother to read anything before signing. The police have no obligation to inform that you’re a suspect when questioning you, and it’s not their fault that you were stupid and didn’t get a lawyer. It’s not misleading or lying to just ask for an interview, they didn’t arrest or detain him on the spot, he was free to go or ask for his mommy. He just didn’t because he’s a pompous ass who thought he could murder someone and escape all consequences. Their job is to investigate and catch the killer, not coddle a 16 year old who has never been told no in his life. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree & it sounds like miller learned his snobby entitlement from his mother. The police obviously have more evidence than just Snapchat messages and that’s probably not the only evidence referenced in the pc affidavit, idk if that’s public info yet. It’s a heinous crime and I have no sympathy for him, the police did their job fully and correctly and hopefully the system works and he goes away forever.
