It’s haunting to think as soon as Timmy experienced stomach pains, he called out to his dad. Because of course he would. His dad is supposed to be his protector. It’s horrific.
To mirror another’s sentiment, it makes me so sad to think the person Timmy wanted to protect him, who he called out for and trusted, is the very person that brought his demise. That poor baby. Side note: the Trick or Treat candy chucking after the execution is the level of pettiness I aspire for 😂
My father was in Timothy’s class at school, and to this day my dad is scarred from this man’s actions. I remember being little, my dad would triple check all candy from trick or treating and we were only allowed to trick or treat at houses we knew.
My parents also raised us being afraid of receiving candies from strangers. And I'm Brazilian. They taught my siblings and I to be polite, put the candy in our pockets and then throw them away when the person was gone. And I taught my kids the same way.
I would buy a bunch of candy and switch it with whatever my kids have gotten for strangers We dont do Halloween or trick and treat in denmark but that what i would do if we did
Unfortunately, this man ruined trick-or-treat for millions of children all over the world. Our mother made us bring home ALL our candy for inspection before we were allowed to eat any of it. And all the delicious homemade popcorn balls? Gone. Nothing that wasn't in a factory package was allowed to be eaten. We do the same with our children today. Monsters ruin many lives. To murder your own child and potentially murder multiple children for a pitiful $25,000?? That demon will spend eternity in the deepest pit of hell.
I was a member of Second Baptist in Pasadena when this happened, so I knew him. I remember him singing in a church service a few days after Tim died. Before he sang, he spoke of how nothing worse could have happened to him and his wife than the death of his son. I was in 7th grade at the time. And, I will never forget any of it. :(
I was “up the road” in Arlington Texas, and had just turned 4. I remember it too. I just made me angry for years, and even when my own kids were little, the lingering fear it left over Halloween because it became an urban myth
Born and raised in Deer Park/Pasadena - My older sister, by 4 years, was born in ‘74 - No one ate Halloween candy until they were inspected by mom and dad. And for years the hospitals would actually x-ray our candy for free. True story.
I remember that. There was one year my brothers and I got apples. My mom noticed something not right about them. She cut them open and it looked as if they were injected with poison. We remembered who had given them to us. It was some mean looking old man. My mom called the police and apparently he had gotten arrested because a few kids were poisoned. They did not die, but got very sick. It was scary because we lived in a small town where people got along and looked after each other . So needless to say that created quite a shake up
I remember hearing about the X-rays. My parents in the 80s meticulously went through our Halloween candy before we could eat any. All apples and home made treats were thrown away.
Love from Iran! Reality has been an absolute painful hell over here so it's great to escape it for a short time with your channel. Thank you for another great content Stephanie!
Love from Montreal Stephanie! As an Iranian woman it's been a hellish two weeks with no end in sight. I'm October born and every year I look forward to Harloween, this year more than ever. thank you for providing an hour or so of escape! You're awesome!
The way you described this loving father in the beginning makes you so good at what you do. I was not familiar with this story, so I was shocked at the twist of events!!
Does that mean your going to b Stephanie???? That's what most are thinking, esp. Stephanie said she can't wait to see it completely finished, if that's not what u meant, u should consider it, b Stephanie Harlowe, we all would like to see it....happy Harloween .
Your writing and delivery of that introductory speech about the nature of monsters, and how the fear of the unknown diminishes when you understand the reasons behind someone’s actions, was absolutely brilliant. Engaging delivery, impeccable writing - it makes sense why I look forward to your new videos so much. Thank you sincerely for putting your time and energy into crafting these, you are a natural storyteller and I wish the world had more people in it who think like you.
I've followed you since you covered Chris Watts, and at the time I was bedridden for six months due to a severe autoimmune disease. All this time later, your fantastic storytelling continues to help distract me from my chronic and at times disabling pain. Seeing your notifications in my inbox always brightens my day, and your videos give me something to do when the insomnia wins. I hate to sound so sappy over someone I've never met and likely never will meet, and I'm sure I must've left half a dozen similar comments under your videos, but as always, thank you so much.
Hi, sorry for you pain & I mean that. So hey, you don't sound sappy to me, I feel the same way, but if it turns out it is sappy...damn well at least you're not alone...lol. Seriously, someone I will never meet , brings me knowledge, laughter, sincerity, similar opinions, focused concern for victims & well-self-written novellas or scripts( not sure what it's called) that I look forward to every week. So you're not alone in your sappy.......oops ..I mean..yep I think she's cool too. Pssst( so are you) keep up your strength.✌️
I’ve followed her since she was a makeup channel. :D YES, she started off as a makeup channel, and did the occasional crime video, and those took off. But she never went the disrespectful way that Bailey went.
Not to make light of this forcible situation but I used to live Dip Sticks growing up when I was a kid & still do! I grab myself one every once in a while. It think a part of it nostalgia. All the awesome candies we grew up eating! Those gostobber style candies but they were black licorice, fiz candies, rock pops, Hubba Bubba with the comics in them, Thrills gum, war heads, jaw breakers the size of a baseball lol. Love it all. Takes me right back to childhood! Saturday daytime, because I had an early bedtime right up until the time I left for college. Thank you for another great podcast! I hope there is some peace brought to those touched by this senseless act.
It did. They did divorce, thank god bc I couldn’t stay with a husband like that either! My mom was in her late teens in this area at the time and knew these people through friends. The mother and daughter became very close though and took care of eachother after everything. I’m so glad her daughter didn’t choose the same candy that night.
I'm not really into vampires, but I'd eagerly watch if you made a video on it. Also this is a great case to cover for this time of year. Poor Timmy, glad the other kids were okay, or at least as okay as they could be with something traumatic like this.
This is such a sad story. It's why parents always check their kids candy after trick or treating. I remember my parents checking for tampered candy and never understood why.
I once baked fairy cakes for Halloween and a friend told me that parents won't let their kids tale them. I couldn't work out why but then there are people who do this and it makes sense
It hurts my heart that we’ve gone from checking candy in this world, to only trick or treat during daytime, to no trick or treating at all in certain places. I wish my babies could enjoy what we used to some day, but of course safety first. 😔
I think it's a much sadder case since it was Timmy's own father that killed him😢I don't know why,but it always hurts my heart a little more when I find out that a parent, the one that should love and protect their child more than anyone else, is the one that hurt/killed them.
I remember this incident because I live in Harris County, Texas. My daughter was born in 1984. This sick fellow definitely ruined traditional Halloween around here for a looooong time. He is also one of the reasons parents nervously search for anomalies in their children's candy every year.
I’m from Deer Park and my grandfather worked with Lanier until he retired. I was born in 79 and was Never allowed out on Halloween. To this day I don’t celebrate it.
Stephanie, I am so interested in what you think about the currently developing Sean Daugherty case. The circumstances are SO bizarre and I hope that little boy gets justice! You always have such thoughtful insights on developing cases, would love to hear your take.
Husband took the kids out of the house and I get a notification that Harloween has started 😱 I feel spoiled!! Thank you for working so hard on this series every year. So excited to watch! ❤
I’ve never heard of this case before which I’m shocked about. It’s so sad that Timmy’s life was taken by his own father all because he wanted money to cover his debts. He stood there when Timmy was eating the Pixy stick knowing that he put cyanide in there and then saw when he wasn’t feeling well. Watching your child die knowing you played a part in it is such a cold-hearted thing to do. I just can’t believe he would harm his own children all for his own sick financial gain. It’s truly horrible. I would actually love to see a video on the myth of vampires and how it originated. I also love vampires and it would be so fascinating to hear about.
Fun fact. Tony Todd stayed at the hotel I worked at years ago when he was making a movie here in the Philly area. His voice creeped my out bc all I could remember was the Candyman!
I have known about this story for a while and it still baffles, enrages, and saddens me that a father could do such a thing to not only his own kids but his friends kids and some kid from his own church!
If he was halfway smart, he’d have left a few of those big sticks around for other kids to randomly pick up. In that time, kids would have done that. Then random kids not connected to him would have died too.
I love Harloween ❤oh my gosh. I was 9 years old when this happened my mom and dad made us throw our candy away. We lived in a suburb of Chicago. We were devastated. Rumors spread that someone had put razor blades in the chocolate candy bars. All my friends had their candy confiscated. This O’Brian guy ruined Halloween. I loved it when all the people yelled Trick or Treat when he got the needle. Couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Thank you for your wicked humor. We can't intervene or make it better, but we can rip emotional control of the event from every stupid monster who thought they had won. I, personally, have never found a reason to give a child in my care any candy from a stranger. Ah, I have always created the secret, most wonderful mix of elicit candy, in a special bag, to substitute for their own Halloween bags because my mother taught me not to ever trust anyone. Funny how life works out. I trust my father. I hope my neighbors were honest. We will never know. I was taught to go into protective sister overkill...and in 10 years, that never failed us...no matter who was lurking.
I was 8 in 1980. Parents were terrified and searched our bags when we got home. Pixie sticks were dumped out. Fun dip was also a favorite (typed that right before Stephanie mentioned it 😄)Apples with razor blades were another biggie. That went on for years. You'd hear a bizarre story from faraway but nobody local ever had issues.
What really sickens me about this story is that because of what he did we still tell the story of the anonymous Halloween poisoner, to the point of taking our candy to be x-rayed. We chose to believe his story, because it was easier than thinking our parents could kill us.
My mom used to stay up all night checking over every peice of candy we got, she would open some up and check them that way too. We haven't had any deaths from poisoned candy that I'm aware of, but we have had kids be drugged and like razors put in some
@@andy_is_lame_ street drugs are too expensive. Users tend to keep their goods close. They're not going to give it out for free. A razor blade would be even harder to insert into wrapped candy.
I remember my mom took my candy to get x-rayed 🙈 she worked at the hospital but I remember as a child thinking why can't I just eat my candy?! 🤪 Now I know 🥴
@@andy_is_lame_ Even in the early 1960s (yes, I am retirement age) my parents inspected my candy before I could eat it. Only allowed to go to houses of people we knew. The home-baked goodies were fine. Why? Because my dad was in the Navy and we lived in a huge Navy city, but my folks were from tiny southern towns. He knew too much about filthy conditions in manufacturing foods and in grocery stores worldwide. The candy better be clean and tightly wrapped! You can guess how vindicated they felt when these poison and razor stories came out. And yes, I am a germaphobe and very cautious, too. 😊
@@baylorsailor I agree. I find halloween trick or treating be a very... strange tradition. There's a certain level of hypocrisy on the part of parents who allow their children to partake in this pagan festival celebration. The true pagan name of the festival is Samhain (pronounced Sow-en). It is definitely true that it is very easy for anyone wanting to cause extreme harm to children to do so at halloween. But for anyone who wants to remove that possibility there is a very easy-to-implement fix - that is, not going out onto the streets and knocking on stranger's doors to ask for sweeties. It's quite an absurd and ridiculous tradition when it's described in it's basic format really isnt it? I mean, based on the behaviour and rules imposed on our children for the other 364 days of the year it's something that is ordinarily utterly out of the question. Imagine - on any other day - if we found out our child had been knocking at the doors of strangers to beg for food... we would rightly go bonkers and our child would be in a great deal of trouble. Not to mention the sideways looks we would give to any adult who was enticing children to come to their front door with the promise of sweets! 😳 This is why i find the very new tradition of trick and treating to be extremely hypocritical on the part of us parents and i would have thought, extremely confusing for young children. Children who we constantly warn about taking candy from strangers... except for one day a year because apparently if its being done to celebrate the literal transitioning of evil spirits from their side of the veil to our side of the veil (which is there for our protection) its perfectly okay🤪 I can hear many people becoming angry at my comment because they feel that denying a child halloween will somehow detract from that child having a happy and memorable childhood. Those are the same people who know that McDonald's "food" is literal poison, but will feed their children with it occasionally as a "treat"... which is a massive contradiction in terms yet so many people can't seem to see the ridiculousness of feeding a child poison as a treat 😂 I'm not even going to start about "Christians" who celebrate Hallowe'en in any way, shape or form but most do seem to do so, which is just crazy to me. That's the exact same thing as Christians celebrating Satan's birthday. 😂 idk, i think the world's gone crazy 🤪 😂 😳 😝
I was a teen in Houston when this happened. Every Halloween after that, hospital ER's were x-raying candy. How that would show cyanide is a mystery to me! In 1980, I gave birth to my 1st son in Southmore Hospital. I didn't realize that was the hospital that little Timmy went to. You brought back a few memories... Houston and the surrounding suburbs covered a lot of miles and it put fear in a lot of people. The innocence of that day never returned. I wish that you would have updated us on his wife and daughter.
Yo we’re not gonna talk about how he forced his son to eat the candy and got a beverage to make it easier and WALKED away when he knew what was about to happen. That’s beyond sick.
My former neighbor always makes the best candy and goodies. She always used to say she wished she could hand out her own goodies instead of plain candy for Halloween. She made them for my kids, and I trusted her, but it’s sad that for Halloween, the neighborhood kids couldn’t enjoy her treats because of people like this.
It’s always the few that ruins it for everyone 😞 and it’s so awful that so many people don’t value the lives, safety and innocence of children and would do all these monstrous acts to hurt them.
I never knew about this case or that it was the reason "Halloween" was cancelled in people's minds and hearts. I have always grown up with the urban tale of razor blades in candy which made my mom check every piece before giving it back to me.
I love that his character witnesses were "he gave kids candy all the time" and "he researched how to buy cyanide". Way to shed doubt on whether or not he bought cyanide and put it in candy that he gave to kids
I always use these true crime stories as a learning tool. These episodes keep me aware of what's going on in the world while providing myself with helpful tips on navigating my own life.
That's a bad idea. This one evil man did this one evil deed once 47 years ago, so now you're going to make decisions in your life based on that? They've done studies that prove that raising children in a world where they're fearful of their surroundings and view the world as a dangerous place causes more psychological damage than giving them the piece of mind of knowing they're growing up and living on a safe planet. How many crimes do you think paranoia has prevented? Probably not many, but it can wreak havoc in your life and interpersonal relationships. Read this article: "Many Americans Are Convinced Crime Is Rising In The U.S. They’re Wrong. But their fear makes everyone less safe." I can't link it because RUclips doesn't allow outside links, but you can easily find it.
@@chaoswitch1974 I completely disagree. Kids need to know the dangers happening out in the real world. To make kids think nothing bad can ever happen and everything is rainbows and unicorns? Lol. Plus, where did you get that article? TIME? US Weekly? Some mainstream media garbage? You can’t trust those publications.
It’s good to be aware- and to know signs of tampering, or learn how people have survived or escaped monsters like this. As long as it makes you feel stronger and more confident in navigating your life ❤
I’ve heard this story before but there’s no one that can tell a story like you. You’re an awesome story teller. Thank you for entertaining us and getting us in the mood for Halloween. I hope you’re well.
I live in Finland, and am stressed daily about what the russians are gonna do next. I am having nightmares and am really anxious. So this distraction from the poopshow that is real life is welcome and needed. Thank you❤
@@elisalaakkonen2268 that is because you didn't live under russian occupation. As someone born in Soviet "union" and gained freedom, I always expect worst from them.
It might be a good topic for you to cover the Ruthie Mae McCoy case in which 1990's Candy-man was partially based on. and great work covering this case; I appreciate the way you set it up as I've always considered it to be tragic. He was ruthless.
It's kind of crazy that the most notorious case of Halloween candy tampering didn't come from a stranger at all, but rather the father of the victim. And I would guess it's actually much easier to get cyanide today than it was in the 70's. Because of the internet you can now have it shipped to your front door, I'm not sure how exactly, but this has come up as a way of getting it in other cases.
Stephanie's ability to comfort others, whisk us away from things etc is a gift. Literally when I decided to finally dive into this Harloween Episode I'm about to go do something I'm dreading... but I've got Steph over here having my back right now to help take my mind off of it. She's the best 😄🥰
You could not have said it better, Stephanie. Sometimes it’s the ones who walk among us we need to watch out for and we need to protect ourselves from. And THAT is freaking terrifying. GREAT episode, RIP little Timmy 💛
Stephanie, I just have to say I absolutely love your channel and your podcast with Derrick. The level of professionalism and research you put in is amazing. I am binge watching all your videos. I’ve already watched all of crime weekly and listened to the podcasts. I tell everyone about you and Derrick, those who are interested in true crime. As hard as the cases are, you are always respectful to the victims and give them a voice, and their families. Thanks for all you do! This is my first year of catching Harloween as it is happening, so I’m definitely excited!! I had ordered your coffee and then got pregnant, and literally as soon as the coffee came I couldn’t drink it 😭😭. When this little guy is born I will be back to ordering!! Can’t wait to try it. My mom loved the gifted coffee 😂
I've heard this story before and it still gives me the creeps. I love the deep dives you do, going into the extra details other youtubers may miss! I truly don't understand how you could poison your child and watch them die and not react. It hurts my heart.
Thank you for a RESPECTFUL retelling of this heartbreaking case! I’ve seen at least two big true crime channels make this into a lighthearted, comedic story and it’s like…umm, a CHILD was murdered here and his own father betrayed him. How is that fodder for a “funny” video?? Just because it didn’t happen in the last ten years doesn’t make it any less horrific. On another note, this is definitely my favorite time of years and I look forward to harloween SO much. I love making memories around Halloween that will last a long time and you’re part of it!
HARLOWEEN 🎉 I can’t believe I’ve been watching you for 4 years!!!! And here I am 4 years later and your still my number 1 favourite true crime RUclipsr ❤
Your intro advice on escaping the horrible news of the world is solid and you and my other favorite YT friends make this possible. Thanks for all you do. You make a difference in our lives. Lvya much
I love the start to Harloween!! This happened in the town I grew up in, it was about 17 years before I was born. But it was a story I heard all the time growing up...especially on Halloween while checking our candy.
I was only two when this happened, but we lived in Texas and I was never allowed to trick-or-treat, and have never to this day. Thank you for your professionalism and care in presenting these cases. Also, your wicked sense of humor is awesome. I’ll be back for more Harloween, and Crime Time. ❤
If this story isn't dad enough, the saddest part (or at least one of the saddest) is the expanse of time, a year, months, whatever, when his kids felt safe and loved by their daddy. Meanwhile, what their daddy was thinking about, and planning. Heartbreaking. 🥺 The betrayal of such innocence.
Ok, she accidentally hit the wrong letter, do you like being corrected everytime you don’t pronounce something the right way or accidentally hit the wrong key? I’m thinking that you don’t, otherwise you would have just took it for what it is! Karma comes back WAY too quickly on trivial things!
I could tell just by how you said “hello” in your intro how excited you are for Harloween. I’m a long time sub, so this is my 4th harloween and I’m so happy to be here again 👻
There are 2 candy men (mans) in Houston, one owned a candy shop in The Heights Neighborhood, Dean Arnold Corll, 1970-1973, min of 28 teenagers and young men. This candy man is the reason it’s (or at least was, or so we were told) illegal to trick or treat in Deer Park. And my mom through out all pixie sticks 😒
I'm so excited! Stephanie putting out the first Harloween episode today and then we get Crime Weekly tomorrow! Hells yeah! Happy Harloween everyone!! 🖤🧡💀🎃🖤🧡
And I just now noticed this was posted yesterday, but RUclips is an asshole and didn't tell me until today. 😂 Still, for me I get back to back videos so it's all good!
Great video! My brother was poisoned with Halloween candy. He was in a coma for 50 days. We are so blessed that he recovered and eventually got back to being his normal self. I can not imagine why anyone would do such a horrific thing. This guy killed his own son. I’m sure that even as he was dying he looked to his father for comfort and trusted him completely. To do that to a child is so incredibly awful and sad. That poor boy. What a horrific thing that happened. Thank goodness none of the other children ingested the poison. The mom knowing her own husband did this to their child is heartbreaking.
Can you please provide more info on this so I can Google news articles? Bc literally just two weeks ago I watched multiple videos that all stated that the… dea? FDA? I’m not sure but some govt agencies were all reporting that there’s never been even one single incident of poison in Halloween candy…. It always seems like somebody knows a friend of a friend that it happened to… but there’s no real proof. I’d be super curious to look this up and read about it, your the first person I’ve ever seen to claim they have a close connection with someone it happened to
@@lizjarvis689 there has NEVER been ANY Halloween candy that was tampered with, except the man who poisoned his son. Never one instance, so her story about her brother is bs
Did anyone else wonder why he didn’t ensure that his daughter also ate the pixie stick that night, since his motive was life insurance money? I don’t have much doubt about his guilt, but I did wonder about this point. Another great video, Stephanie! I’m excited that Harloween is back!
Maybe he figured he would "help" her eat it the next day, so that it didn't seem too obvious? Or maybe once Timmy started getting sick he freaked out because he didn't know it would happen so quickly?
Been watching for a couple years and admire your story-telling, as well as the amazing research you demonstrate. I’m always a bit puzzled at the way you pronounce the word “documentary”, but I find it endearing and have adopted it as my own. My thought is you must be right. Love you, girl!
It’s ur time to shine!!!! Yaaaaaa🌈🙏🍧 iv joined ur family about 9months ago! So iv been waiting for harloween ever since I found out about u!!! Yes I’m soooo excited! An when guests r in my car they also listen to u! No talking just listening! An if they ever have a problem with it they can find another ride or drive there selfs! Lol true story thou
I would LOVE a vampire video! I can't wait for Harloween this year! I've been dying in anticipation. I will fly myself out to New York just to trick or treat at your house to get some criminal coffee and meet you. But I know that would actually freak you out so I'll just tell you here that I love all your content, including crime weekly. Thank you for all you do. Happy spooky season witches! ❤️👻
When I saw the title of the episode, I was of course expecting Dean Corl. Who, coincidentally was also in Houston. He's called the Candyman. I had never heard of this case, even though I'm only a couple hours away, in Louisiana.
The moment the kid said his candy tasted bitter and bad, and the dad's response is to give him something to wash out down so his kid could finish it off? Guilty. Who makes their kid finish a giant dose of sugar that tastes bad?? Much less right before bed? It's not like he didn't want to eat his broccoli
Im not even done with the video yet but came here to say that riff about Halloween Candy at 13:09. Can you please continue to give into your stand up comedy skills because im here for it. 🤣
For someone who was truly traumatized as a child by the movie Candyman, I was still so drawn to this story. Then to top it off, this story being from Texas ugh! Scary 🥴🥴🥴
My old house had two big beautiful oleander bushes right at the beginning of the walkway to my front door. One white and one pink with large jasmine vines and lavender bushes in between. It smelled heavenly, I really miss that.
I have a white oleander that my mom bought me many years ago, because I loved the book with the plant's name as the title. For those that don't know the book, it is in fact used as a poison in it. It is beautiful and I know the milk in the flower is indeed poison, but I've never gotten a rash from it. I wonder if the pink flower is different in that way? I def do not eat it though:)
Hi Stephanie, off topic for this video but thought you'd be interested, some media over here in England is reporting that the search for missing victims of the moors murderers is being resumed. On another note, happy harloween 🎃
Growing up in a small country town we kids ran wild on Halloween, knowing we were safe and protected by our neighbors and community. Then someone got an apple with a razor blade, and this story rose it's head, and suddenly fear entered our world. We got restricted to a 2 block radius and candy inspection. The hospital would x-ray bags of candy for free. He really did kill Halloween. 🎃
"It should be noted that there has never been a recorded straight instance of this happening; the World War II example below aside, it is _entirely_ an Urban Legend" regarding the 'razorblades in apples' story. If you google it, you'll find there isn't a single recorded case of that happening
So excited for Harloween!!! I don't know how you do it all! You make such great videos plus I love Crime Weekly. You put so much time and effort into your videos so I think it's okay to speak for everyone and say we really appreciate you Stephanie ❤️❤️❤️
Firstly, yes please on the vampire vid! Secondly, you are the only other adult I have seen admit to loving Fun Dip, and it makes me feel validated in some strange way, so thank you for that.
I heard of this case before. The man who killed Halloween. It goes to show that some parents like this despicable man don't deserve to have kids. 👻🧛♂🎃Happy Harloween👻🧛♂🎃, Stephanie.
Admittedly, I remember when this Horrific thing happened, although I was Very Young- I also remember that for the next few or so years of Halloween, my Mom would carefully inspect my Candy before Id get to eat it- When explaining what had happened prior to that poor little boy eating that tainted pixi-stick, One thing that you/Steph had said that was Such a Huge Tip Off to me was when the little boy told his Father that it tasted funny- Pretty Much Any Other Parent would have Snatched that candy out of the child’s hand and Carefully Inspect it and then taste it- They wouldn’t give their child of glass of Kool Aid to wash it down with! Anyways, although I’m not even half way through with the video, I just wanted to say (in advance) Thanks for another Amazing and Well Done Video Steph! Many Blessings to you and your family and Keep up the Great Work!!
I was born in 74, so I don't remember, but I know this story. We had to check our candy every year to make sure it was properly sealed. We couldn't eat it until it was checked for having been tampered with.
i was born in '97 and there was still anxiety around kids getting tainted sweets when i grew up, but let's be real here: if the forensics back then were good enough to trace everything back to timmy's dad, there's no way in hell someone could get away with it these days.
Thank you so much for this, it just feels like one thing after another and I can't seem to catch a break, especially after Hurricane Ian, all I needed was a break and to just get a second to relax so this is such perfect timing, amazing video on top of that!
Thanks for another great video Stephanie 😊 I was so relieved when you said that the man Ronald accused had an airtight alibi, I was really worried there for a moment! Also, I'm totally with you on the 'fun size' chocolate thing .... disappointment size would be a better name 🤣
You did really good with this one Steph. In the past couple of months another crime channel covered this & I'd never heard of it before. I'm glad I decided to watch your video because you covered it much better, and even gave more info than the previous one. You are very thorough, to say the least.
I love how America decorates holidays. Halloween 🎃 where I live over the years people Just stopped decorating houses etc it's so sad 😞 yet you guys go all out I love it 😀 cx
This case has always fascinated me. It's so chilling that a father could actually do this to his own son. I love your channel. Thanks for what you do! 🎃🎃
What's worse is that the entire country became terrified that people were out there trying to poison their children on Halloween, for years. My entire childhood was marred by this man because of all of the propaganda surrounding this case. We all grew up thinking people out there were poisoning children's Halloween candy, when in fact it was just misinformation. He had poisoned his own kid. We weren't allowed to eat any candy on Halloween until each piece was inspected, properly sealed and confirmed to be untampered with. It's best, but really it was the beginning of growing up during the worst period of crime in US history, and we were latchkey kids from around 1970-1992 (the year I graduated).... crime has dropped significantly since 1993, though the pandemic did cause crime to increase some. Relatively we're still living in the safest time since the 1950's. Though, due to the information era most people believe the opposite is true. I can't tell you how often I hear and read people talk about how dangerous it is "these days".
This is Harloween, this is Harloween, Harloween Harloween... and my bday, so again, thank you Stephanie for you unrelenting, amazing hard work, it does not go unappreciated 🥰
I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it, for Harloween! PS: I have a 3 car garage, and you’re right! We get the good candy. I’m surrounded by Oleander here, it lines the streets, it’s a little creepy. This was an excellent story, I’ve heard bits and pieces, but never the whole thing. May Timmy rest in peace.
Now you have to live up to the hype!! I only have a 1 car garage but live on a main road and kids don’t want where there’s no sidewalks 😔 I would LOVE to live a street and open my garage door and have cool decorations and a table of cider and a table of candy!
It’s haunting to think as soon as Timmy experienced stomach pains, he called out to his dad. Because of course he would. His dad is supposed to be his protector. It’s horrific.
That’s what I’m saying- it’s disgusting
Haunting and heart wrenching. Poor kid.
To mirror another’s sentiment, it makes me so sad to think the person Timmy wanted to protect him, who he called out for and trusted, is the very person that brought his demise. That poor baby.
Side note: the Trick or Treat candy chucking after the execution is the level of pettiness I aspire for 😂
Right?! F-ing terrible monster.
heartbreaking 💔
My father was in Timothy’s class at school, and to this day my dad is scarred from this man’s actions. I remember being little, my dad would triple check all candy from trick or treating and we were only allowed to trick or treat at houses we knew.
That was same with us . I am sorry that your dad knew this child. That is so horrible and scary especially for that time.
My parents also raised us being afraid of receiving candies from strangers. And I'm Brazilian. They taught my siblings and I to be polite, put the candy in our pockets and then throw them away when the person was gone. And I taught my kids the same way.
I would buy a bunch of candy and switch it with whatever my kids have gotten for strangers
We dont do Halloween or trick and treat in denmark but that what i would do if we did
Unfortunately, this man ruined trick-or-treat for millions of children all over the world.
Wow I bet you guys were shocked! 🥴 So creepy.
I was “up the road” in Arlington Texas, and had just turned 4. I remember it too. I just made me angry for years, and even when my own kids were little, the lingering fear it left over Halloween because it became an urban myth
Wow! That’s really creepy! I’m sorry you had to experience that. I’m sure it completely changes a person. Blessings to you and your family 💖
Wow
😕😞💙
Born and raised in Deer Park/Pasadena - My older sister, by 4 years, was born in ‘74 - No one ate Halloween candy until they were inspected by mom and dad. And for years the hospitals would actually x-ray our candy for free. True story.
I like they did it for free!
So needless to say that created quite a shake up
I was born in 1958 but I remember that back in the 70s there were always warning and hospitals offering to x-ray candy.
I remember hearing about the X-rays. My parents in the 80s meticulously went through our Halloween candy before we could eat any. All apples and home made treats were thrown away.
OMG when I tell people my candy was x-rayed for a period in my youth they think I am crazy (born in 1976)

The minute I heard the word 'pixie sticks' I screamed "NO! I KNOW THIS STORY! DON'T EAT THOSE!" Targeting children is a whole different level of evil.
Especially one’s own children.
Well now I know the story too 🤦🏻♀️ lol
Love from Montreal Stephanie! As an Iranian woman it's been a hellish two weeks with no end in sight. I'm October born and every year I look forward to Harloween, this year more than ever. thank you for providing an hour or so of escape! You're awesome!
The way you described this loving father in the beginning makes you so good at what you do. I was not familiar with this story, so I was shocked at the twist of events!!

@@SamanthaLeigh7 that's exactly what I thought.
I second that!! she has helped me get through recovery from 3 brain surgeries
Yes! I have chronic illness too, and when i am in bed in pain, i turn on my fav RUclipsrs and close my eyes. It’s the best help available.
Keep the faith!
I feel so bad for his wife and daughter. It had to have wrecked their entire lives.
And knowing you also were supposed to die,, beyond sick
His wife divorced him and hated him
It did. They did divorce, thank god bc I couldn’t stay with a husband like that either! My mom was in her late teens in this area at the time and knew these people through friends. The mother and daughter became very close though and took care of eachother after everything. I’m so glad her daughter didn’t choose the same candy that night.
@@theIaurenshow right!! Because he was going to kill both of them, and some other random kids too!!
As an Aussie, Halloween isn't celebrated widely here and isn't my cup of tea, but I am absolutely here for another fantastic Harloween!
This story is so horrifying. Some things are just unfathomable.
I agree! And he helped him eat it, that's so disgusting
I remember my parents checking for tampered candy and never understood why.
you can't take any chances!
Same!!!
My Dad always "checked" our candy but now that I am a parent, I know it was also so he could take some of his favorites
@@sweettea527 hahahaha SAME. his toll was Reese’s PB cups 😂
Waited all year for this!!!! I know I'm not alone when I say this!
You're literally THE BEST ♡♡♡
Grateful for you!!! 🤗🤗🤗
I am grateful for YOU!
Yes, @MisseE, me, too! I'm so excited. 😁
I think it's a much sadder case since it was Timmy's own father that killed him😢I don't know why,but it always hurts my heart a little more when I find out that a parent, the one that should love and protect their child more than anyone else, is the one that hurt/killed them.
Absolutely. As twisted as it sounds, I would rather it have been a psychopathic random stranger than a father for money 😞
I remember this incident because I live in Harris County, Texas. My daughter was born in 1984. This sick fellow definitely ruined traditional Halloween around here for a looooong time. He is also one of the reasons parents nervously search for anomalies in their children's candy every year.
I was in Dallas and the same thing happened there. Halloween was ruined for a long time.
Yup. Families still check the candy now. I remember having my parents do it every year when I was a kid.
Most malls and churches across the country have the children trick or treat with their confines.
I’m from Deer Park and my grandfather worked with Lanier until he retired. I was born in 79 and was Never allowed out on Halloween. To this day I don’t celebrate it.
I live on the street it happened on.. We moved here the year after
Stephanie, I am so interested in what you think about the currently developing Sean Daugherty case.
His voice creeped my out bc all I could remember was the Candyman!
he was a GREAT actor though! He had me shook for life!
Oh my gosh YES!!!!! Ever since I saw him as Candyman his voice terrified me. Any roll he was in afterwards sent shivers up my spine.
Amen.
I just got through the very last video in my subscriptions, then this came through. Now I don't have to fold laundry in silence. 😁
I listen to her doing housework too. I get aggro when my husband tries talking to me and I have to keep pausing or pulling my headphones out. Lol
OMG, me too! Looked this up to do folding right now. You're probably done by now...😄
@Jodie Renee I read your comment and felt attacked bc of the current state of my pantry 😂😅
@@geenadavis7365 ..so relatable!!!
Why do we sometimes feel guilty for leisure? Good point, October best month live it up
Can you imagine the shock his friend that went out trick o treating with when he learned this guy tried to poison his kids too?
Shock? i would be furious!
I’d be in a prison cell very quickly after that.
This is why i find the very new tradition of trick and treating to be extremely hypocritical on the part of us parents and i would have thought, extremely confusing for young children. Children who we constantly warn about taking candy from strangers... except for one day a year because apparently if its being done to celebrate the literal transitioning of evil spirits from their side of the veil to our side of the veil (which is there for our protection) its perfectly okay🤪
I can hear many people becoming angry at my comment because they feel that denying a child halloween will somehow detract from that child having a happy and memorable childhood.
Those are the same people who know that McDonald's "food" is literal poison, but will feed their children with it occasionally as a "treat"... which is a massive contradiction in terms yet so many people can't seem to see the ridiculousness of feeding a child poison as a treat 😂
I'm not even going to start about "Christians" who celebrate Hallowe'en in any way, shape or form but most do seem to do so, which is just crazy to me.
RIGHT!?
Right!! So sick.
Yessss! Omggg I was just thinking that about that specific part 😮😢 LITERALLY killing him, forcing that shit down. HORRIFIC 😢😢😢
Horrifying that anyone could so easily thoughtlessly do this to anyone else alone their own child. Just insane
So terrible. Heartless. Soulless.

But their fear makes everyone less safe."

I mean sure you can order it from the internet but damn what a trail
I have a friend who uses it in electroplating. Easy to get through regular channels so your right, it probably available on the internet. Good call.
I don't think there have been any cases of candy tampering that involved strangers. I could be wrong though.
Essentially, candy poisoning was an urban legend spawned by this horrible man. As I understand it, it wasn’t a fear until this case.

What was he poisoned with that landed him in a coma? I researched and could not find an actual single incidence of Halloween candy being poisioned.

@@lizjarvis689 there has NEVER been ANY Halloween candy that was tampered with, except the man who poisoned his son. Never one instance, so her story about her brother is bs
i don’t believe you.
“It’s the most… wonderful time…. Of the year!!!” I LOVE HARLOWEEN SO MUCH! I’m so excited for this month!!
The other day I was talking to my brother and I said documen-ta-ry, I smirked and thought, " it rubbed off from Stephanie" .. lol
I also thought the same thing..
It's so 😁 funny
It’s ur time to shine!!!! Yaaaaaa🌈🙏🍧 iv joined ur family about 9months ago! So iv been waiting for harloween ever since

In the car anymore just u an ur videos!
Hell Yeah!!!
Hell Freakin Yeah! For Harloween
🎃
…and YES to Vampire 🧛🏽♀️ stuff
The moment the kid said his candy tasted bitter and bad, and the dad's response is to give him something to wash out down so his kid could finish it off? Guilty. Who makes their kid finish a giant dose of sugar that tastes bad?? Much less right before bed? It's not like he didn't want to eat his broccoli
Im not even done with the video yet but came here to say that riff about Halloween Candy at 13:09. Can you please continue to give into your stand up comedy skills because im here for it. 🤣
I wasn’t even from the area, born in the 90s, and I wasn’t allowed to trick or treat bc of that man
For someone who was truly traumatized as a child by the movie Candyman, I was still so drawn to this story.
Harloween is heeeeere! My favorite time of the year 😁
Hi Stephanie, off topic for this video but thought you'd be interested, some media over here in England is reporting that the search for missing victims of the moors murderers is being resumed. On another note, happy harloween 🎃
I'm really hoping it is him. He deserves to be laid to rest properly. 😪
@StephanieHarlowe
I was literally about to comment about this lol x
@@lynsayrooney7753 😊
@@bloodyneptune then you dont google good go back 2 school
@@Samanta-van-laar based on your spelling, grammar, and failure of logic, it is you who should go back to school
So excited for Harloween!!! I don't know how you do it all! You make such great videos plus I love Crime Weekly. You put so much time and effort into your videos so I think it's okay to speak for everyone and say we really appreciate you Stephanie ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely ❤
Firstly, yes please on the vampire vid! Secondly, you are the only other adult I have seen admit to loving Fun Dip, and it makes me feel validated in some strange way, so thank you for that.
I heard of this case before. The man who killed Halloween. It goes to show that some parents like this despicable man don't deserve to have kids. 👻🧛♂🎃Happy Harloween👻🧛♂🎃, Stephanie.
Looking forward to all of these stories......thanks Stephanie x
Truly.
i was born in '97 and there was still anxiety around kids getting tainted sweets when i grew up, but let's be real here: if the forensics back then were good enough to trace everything back to timmy's dad, there's no way in hell someone could get away with it these days.
You are such a talented story teller. I have heard this story a lot but appreciate how well you told it here. Thank you Stephanie! Happy Harloween!
Yes I definitely want a vampire episode.
LOVED this Pod Cast !! Never knew the REAL story of the CANDYMAN. Now that I do, it really upsets me ( kinda like, watch what you ask for ☹️ ) ♥️
This case has always fascinated me. It's so chilling that a father could actually do this to his own son. I love your channel. Thanks for what you do! 🎃🎃
*spoiler alert
Happy Halloween!
I love it when it’s just you! I’m a big fan. Thank you!
This has even an October tradition for me for the past three years. Harloween was there for me when nobody else was, lol. Love you Steph ❤
Yes please do a vampire video!!!
I used to be a huge Ann Rice fan, and have always been very intrigued by the vampire lore and myths.
I loved it Stephanie! Thanks so much for all the time you put in to do our Harloween videos. It’s the best thing about October. 🦇🎃👻
