This video is fantastic. But I have one question. How can I record a video that is longer (for example 2 hours) without the camera turning off due to sleeping mode? I didn't find an option to turn it off in the settings.
Thank you so much!!! Unfortunately at the time there were regulations which would classify a camera as a camcorder if it recorded video longer than 30 minutes, which is why very many cameras automatically stop recording at 29 minutes and 59 seconds. Sorry about that!

I have the sx740 hs and I would like to use the various modes instead of just Auto, not least because -and this is my query: On Auto mode, especially noticeable outside, photos are not coming out very succesfully. None are sharp and most are too blurry to keep. Also, the zoom sounds good, but the focus is poor when using zoom, in my experience even if it looks ok in the screen. I would appreciate any information you may have regards this, thank you.

Under Shutter Priority Mode section, you mentioned you could control the Aperture @13:19, which confused me because I couldn't control that on my camera in Tv mode. I'm glad you found my video helpful! I'm sorry, I wasn't that clear in the video but what I meant was that if you adjust the exposure compensation, the camera will NOT change the shutter speed, but will increase/decrease the aperture and ISO to give you a brighter or darker image. It doesn't let you control the aperture as it would in manual mode. Sorry about that!

Hello, I just bought this camera for vlogs in my channel. I’ve been using my iPhone and has been great, however it was taking lots of memory space so I decided to purchase this 740 camera. I’ve been playing with it but I notice that my videos are coming out not very crisp and clear. Can you please show me/us in what setting should I be setting my camera when I Vlog, also can you please please show me how to transfer data to my laptop be able to edit 🙏🏼 and what do you use to edit, I have a Dell laptop. Hi! I'm gonna get really technical, but the iPhone has a lower aperture lens and a better processor, so basically, more light reaches the 'camera' on the iPhone than the Canon. That means, to get the same crispness, you need to get more light in your video. One thing you can do is press menu, then go to the camera icon tab, then page 2, and press Auto Lighting Optimizer. Click that, and set it to off. That will make it less muddy looking but it won't change that it gathers less light, so you might need to get some video lights if you shoot indoors. To transfer video, you need to plug in the card from the camera into an SD card slot on your computer. From there, there should be a folder called DCIM, if you click that, all your photos and videos are there and you can drag and drop them into a folder on your computer. From there, you can use any editing software, I used to use wondershare filmora, it was great but then I got a macbook so I switched to Final Cut Pro. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I think this camera is AWESOME for vlogging! Completely recommend it! The only thing to remember is when you shoot 4k video, it will crop in which could be hard for vlogging without something like a gorillapod. If you want to hold the camera handheld, I would keep it at 1080p (a mistake I've made with some of my older videos). Overall, in my opinion I think this is the best $500 camera for vlogging today!

Hey, the smooth skin effect is off and not available during video mode. If you mean the auto lighting optimizer (which I turned off on mine), you would press Q (the center button), then go to the icon with person and three bars, then use the scroll wheel to select disable. This makes the images a bit worse in low light, but in exchange you have a lot more detail.
No, unfortunately manual controls are available ONLY for photos, not videos. Even if you press record while in manual mode, the camera will automatically switch to full auto for the video

Personally, for portraits, I would recommend a different camera, something like a used NEX6 or Sony a5000 would be in this price range (or cheaper). I'd recommend these because you will have the ability to switch the lenses as you wish, and it has a larger sensor, meaning its going to be easier to achieve the background blur in portraits. This camera IS NOT BAD though!!!! But for portraits, there are better options. This camera does not have a spot to attach the audio cables that come with the Blue Yeti. It only has a USB and HDMI component. Would I just have to use OBS to record my audio portion using an external microphone then sync the audio and video files on my editing software?
thank you!!! yup, you are right. there is no way of connecting any external microphone to the canon sx740 hs to record internally, so the only way to do that is to record it separately. I think the best tool to do that (i've used it before for recording audio separatly) is "Audacity", its super easy to use and easy to save. then in post you will have to sync them, but i think some editing softwares like premier pro have an auto align feature but i don't record audio separately enough to know if its any good. hope that helps!
No, the flash on most compact cameras and higher end cameras have only photography flashes. Only some camcorders and most cell phones have this feature for video
I think you might have the write protect switched to the on position on the actual SD card. there's a little switch on the sd card and you need to make sure it's not in the lock position. try it with the switch in either position until it deletes, if it doesn't work for either, try deleting it on the computer to see if it's a problem with the card or the camera.
I used getpaint.net to simply put the text on top of a screenshot from the intro of my video! I do sometimes use photoshop if I want to do more edits, it's easier to work with when you have lots of layers ans stuff.

After recording a video, I found out, the volume is very low. Do you have any solution to resolve this? Or can I use an external Mike with the canon sx740hs?
Hmm thats really weird... I haven't came across an issue like that. By chance, are you holding the camera in a way that somehow covers the microphone? Also, if you go through the settings, theres an option called Wind Filter. I would usually keep it on but it might make it your audio quieter. Also, try to record video in a completely closed quiet room... and see if its a hardware issue or if the microphone is focusing on different sounds like wind or people in the background. If none of this fixes it, I would probably contact Canon for help. Unfortunately, you can't connect an external microphone to the canon sx740 hs.
there's a little button on the bottom right with a play button surrounded by a rectangle. use that button, and then look through pictures buy pressing left or right on the center pad
at 3:51 you can see a bit of how the camera microphone works, although this video was a walk though of the modes not the video/audio specifically. sorry about that!

Yes it does, it can take 1080p video at 60fps, meaning you can slow down the video manually up to 50% speed while it looking completely smooth

Nice video, very helpful! which is the compatible cheap gimbal for Canon sx740hs camera ?
After recording a video, I found out, the volume is very low. Do you have any solution to resolve this? Or can I use an external Mike with the canon sx740hs?
Hmm thats really weird... I haven't came across an issue like that. By chance, are you holding the camera in a way that somehow covers the microphone? Also, if you go through the settings, theres an option called Wind Filter. I would usually keep it on but it might make it your audio quieter. Also, try to record video in a completely closed quiet room... and see if its a hardware issue or if the microphone is focusing on different sounds like wind or people in the background. If none of this fixes it, I would probably contact Canon for help. Unfortunately, you can't connect an external microphone to the canon sx740 hs.

How to view pictures ?
there's a little button on the bottom right with a play button surrounded by a rectangle. use that button, and then look through pictures buy pressing left or right on the center pad
