I love my SX740 HS. Replaced my Panasonic DC-ZS70 with it. It's great to have a pocket sized super zoom for easily getting up close to things when I don't want to lug around a huge lens for my X-T3
Nice review. I have been using the much older SX700 as an "Every day - Everywhere Carry". YES, most current mirrorless cameras and DSLRs are way better. But this is super light, super small .. and way better than the smartphone camera. Improvements over my old model: 1. Longer zoom 30X >> 40X 2. 1080HD >> 4K 3. Higher resolution: 16 >> 20 megapixel 4. Fixed Screen >> Tilt Screen Is this line "perfect" .. of course not, but it can do quite a bit and it can fill a niche. For me, it's worth upgrading from my old model as an every day camera.
I've got the 730, same but just 1080 and it's so useful. The zoom is amazing for the size/price. If you just want 1 reasonable compact camera, I definitely recommend these.
I just bought this camera for my wife. She can no longer hold her full size canon dslr camera. Great review by the way. It’s been along time since I have left a comment but thanks for the great review.
I personally don't think it's a vlogging camera either. It's more of a quick point and shoot camera. where you quickly take a pic or get a good zoom picture
im not a genius when it comes to cameras but the fact it can zoom so far out is exactly what i want, i am always in situations where i want to record something that is a little far away and my iphone 11 is garbage when it comes to zooming. it also has a 60 fps option at full HD and 720p hd which is amazing!
I have had this camera since it first came out. Absolutely excellent in EVERY way but one. It really eats battery power, especially shooting 4K. The battery designed for it is inadequately small.
That sure sounds like decent audio from a built-in mic. By the way, this is the best camera/technology review for the "Average Joe" or "Average Jill" out there. Thanks for doing this for us!
Bought this a few months ago because of the zoom lens and it works great as a "B" camera or even my primary when I'm just doing my daily walks! I forgot how much easier/faster/better it is compared to my phone. It's a shame that this is the end of the line for compact cameras. I was hoping Canon would put out a 750 model by now.
Hi Marly, are you used the cámara with low light or without light, how are the images? For example did you take photos to the moon? Can you share you experience or comments...
The compact zoom is the biggest attraction to this camera. Can we get some low light zoom tests? Compact zoom lenses vary. Some focus better in low light than others.
Wow, for a similar price my Sony HX99 thrashes this Canon. The sony has; touchscreen, extensive manual control, fantastic autofocus, zoom 770mm out to 1440mm with clearimage zoom, really good HDR and DRO, and razor sharp 4k. The HX99 has a lot of the new software and image processor stuff that will soon be out on other sonys. Definitely check it out if you want a pocket cam or tiny B cam.
I actually love the quality of the SX740 better than your main vlogging camera... and the menu layout looks less complicated than say a Panasonic or Sony menu.
Brett G I’m probably getting this camera because I feel Canon has better colors than the last two Panasonics I’ve have and the simple menu layout. But I’m considering this manly for a zoom camera.
@@BYUEagle I just returned a Panasonic and going to buy this one instead. I have a Canon DSLR and a Sony a6000 but just want a small camera that is easy to carry along everywhere. I don't care about 4k, I have nothing to watch it on or edit, so for me this is fine as an extra little camera.
It's a great little point and shot that is great if you want auto everything and jpg. I have been using this for quite a while with great results assuming you don't want great control of the camera. That focal range and zoom is amazing for a travel camera.

Do you think this is a good entry level vlog camera? Me and GF plan on starting a vlog channel and obviously don’t want to spend too much so we’re in the max 400$ price range. This is the only one that has stood out to me due to the great price and flip screen which is a must for my GF. Thanks in advanced for the reply

Works pretty much like my Olympus SH-1, + longer zoom, +4k, but less battery life. Nikon A1000 has a viewfinder. Will look at both when my SH-1 gives up (no service available for it).
For me, point n shoots in general are interesting until they get north of $300. Then I start thinking used Interchangeable lens cameras...although I will look up super zooms on occasion. That said, I still mess around with my 8 year old Canon SX 230HS from time to time. It works great for a pocket camera and shoots 1080 / 24. I've just debated to myself whether to get this camera or smartphone camera. Finally, I got a smartphone, LG V40 to be precise. They literally have the similar sensor size, though LG has 1/2.6". Only thing I'd consider Canon is the zoom functionality beside V40 has manual control, 4K60, wider lens, raw and cheaper.
