The “you blocked me” (writers block), “right my wrongs”, “see paper” “your favorite movie is the notebook” that track is so fun to listen to again after context
I’ve been to LA one time and this album is making me feel like a 45 year old native. I have so much pride for a place I know little about. Kendrick’s influence is unmatched 🐐
This album was literally complete just a 2 days before it dropped. The Spanish singer met said Kendrick heard her singing at Dodgers game a month ago and pulled her into the project. The producer of GNX said that he only gave Kendrick the beat for the song 2 days before the album dropped.
"gloria" is a love letter to his "pen" aka his craft. It's a flip on I Used To Love HER by Common / Homecoming by Kanye / I Gave You Power by Nas where they make you think they're talking about a woman but it's about a non living thing
Jack Antonoff is such a chameleon in the best way possible. There's a reason why so many artists like to work with him, and it's because he knows how to capture the sound they have in their mind, regardless of genre.
This album is inarguably a powerful statement by Kendrick, but I think it is also a strong statement from Antonoff against the haters who claim that he 'ruins' artists or that he doesn't have any range. The common response to that complaint is that he is just servicing any given artist's desire and they end up with the sound they are going for, and this album shows what he can do when what the artist is going for is completely different than what people expect from him.
The whole album is an ode to South LA. Growing up, we’d party listening to Debbie Deb and other artists like that, coming from a Hispanic LA household. Kendrick’s including of the Hispanic side of LA is huge in uniting us. That’s what he’s trying to do with this one, to me. He incorporating something for everyone where we (us from LA) will notice first. The west is up this year.
It’s an ode to LA and the bay aka the two parts of Cali that have the richest culture as far as rap goes. Lots of the sound is highly inspired by the Bay Area sound from the hyphy movement of the 90’s.
“Man in the garden”’s beat interpolates a Nas song, called “One Mic”, which is about the struggle of growing up in the projects and nas explaining how the mic helped him. It’s so nice to seeing Kendrick giving flowers to Nas not once but twice on this project, really hoping for a collab between the two of them in the future
this album is feeding the bay area of LA. The sound kendrick is going for on most of the tracks is hyphy, a sub genre of rap in the bay area emphasized by high energy and a crunk like sound.
There are tons of correlations between this album and Tupacs Makavelli album -The beat and flow on Reincarnation -Makavelli dropped after a beef, just like this one -Both are 12 songs -Both have songs representing LA -Both have “love songs” dedicated to their art -One of the music videos Kenny wears a hat w the same words as the title to the intro of Makavelli. So I think it’s safe to say this is his take on that album and also another “Reincarnation” hidden in the details from the song
reincarnated is easily my favourite, literally just sat there in shock listening to the full thing on the first listen, it's just perfection. Nice to see you guys loved it as much as I did.
Also going to be a MASSIVE stadium hit. A D1 pep band in Virginia played it on Sunday, just two days after it dropped. Every pep band in the country is currently adding it to their repertoire. There will be at least one choreographed marching band routine at a college football stadium this weekend- likely more. It's not often that a song is so incredibly tailor-made to work well for a marching/pep band, so it's inevitable that they are going to respond in force.
I had the SAME EXACT reaction to his cadence, the drums, the piano, and the BASS on "reincarnated" genuine jaw dropping song and was my favorite off first listen.
Debbie Deb was played a lot in roller skating rinks in the 80s especially around Los Angeles very popular in Latino communities . This was my mother’s favorite song and personally I’ve been trying to settle it a beat myself, but this blew it completely out the water.
kendrick randomly dropping one of the best rap albums of the whole year with one snippet as prior warning prove to me how incredible 2024 has been for music!! i hope yall enjoyed this project as much as i did
And the songs from the snippet aren’t even on the album?!😵💫 This year has been absolutely unreal out here for every genre, and everybody got grey album covers😭
When Drake said he gets more support from Kendrick’s city than him, this album is Kendrick supporting the underground scene of LA, that’s why you see all these underground rappers, it’s also a homage to home type of sound, with reincarnated being a Tupac style sign, tv off, hey now, squabble having “not like us” vibes, and these vibes leading into LA dancing. I hope that makes sense. I label this project as a fun collection of demos where Kendrick had more fun, and just like you guys analyzed he doesn’t give af about anyone, so he doesn’t give af about opinions, he made something fun while also holding the production standard
watching kevin talking about how hes wondering what kind of introspective and deep ideas he thinks the album was gonna go into without knowing its just straight up bangers was so funny
@@lewhunterrright, even the bangers have introspective qualities. But it’s like OutKast said, some people don’t wanna listen they just wanna dance lmao
Kendrick yet again proving that he is one of, if not the best, to ever do it. Thematically not his deepest record but what an album. Kendrick fans are eating this year.
The more I listen the more Hey Now is becoming my favorite. That part where the synths come in makes me lose my mind lol my 3rd favorite Kendrick right now.
i love how much of an ode to music this entire record is. feels like samples, and flows, and inflections are all derivative but made super fresh with kendricks owns style.
The fact that he completely flipped the script on Drake with his actual Heart Pt 6. Not just by making a WAY better track overall (a hit most definitely) but it's got as usual, beautiful story telling, it's incredibly nostalgic, and just absolutely wonderful and lovely, showing love for his true friends and sending a super positive message to everyone else. A COMPLETE 180 to the pathetic attempts that Drake did with his version... and Kendrick didn't even have to invoke his name whatsoever.
Another thing Canadians might not get about the line about "The 10": Californians have a dialect thing where they use a naming convention for Interstates featuring "The", where the rest Americans say "I". For example: My best friend is from LA, North of The 10, and always calls it The Ten. In live in Florida on the other side of I-10, and i will always make fun of them for calling I-10 "The 10" when outside of LA. So "The 10" is a local color thing for the Californians
Good observation, we use numbers only, and we all understand and know where each freeway is and where it leads... from the south to the north, the east to the west!
Saying "the" before the highway number is much more common in Southern California than northern. For example, us in the north call interstate 5 "I-5" or just "5" while southerners often say "the 5"
Man at the garden is also so wild coming from the perspective of 'U' all those years ago. Like jfc, how much Kendrick has grown these past few years is beautiful to see 🥲

Genuinely surprised about them not knowing Debbie Deb. I’m born and raised in SoCal so I guess it’s a local thing. Thought that was a hit around the world lmao 12:24
I hope he performs a good amount of Mr Morale because the world deserves to hear some of that album. I went through a lot after that album came out and it helped me heal parts of myself that were in pain…and him talking about meditation has helped me incorporate that into my own life and it’s been a very powerful tool for me. Loved this video and I’m excited to go see K dot live for the second time whenever the tour comes around 🙌 Love y’all’s videos so much 🙏 Thanks for this and shoutout from Columbus Ohio 🤙
Hello guys !! At first I just wanna say that I love the that work you're doing and this new dimension with the interviews is sooo great. Even if a lot of people recommend some albums (and this com will drown in all these comment section) I'm also going to do it because "who tries nothing has nothing". And it could be a first premier in your channel (audio and video). It's Volcano by Jungle a bunch of a lot of genres : disco, neo soul, french touch and rap, it's really varied. The album is really insane sooo sooo fun and well produced. But the twist is that they created a movie out of it (49min so basically the album length), it's dance videos with a story. It's clearly a wonderful experience. The dancers, camera work, lightning everything is perfect. Jungle is a two in one project, the dance allows to understand more of the song and listen things you couldn't be able to hear at first. I think it could be incredible if you could do it and it will be the first time for you to do it. It's my favorite project of 2023, the band won the Brits award for group of the year after this. So it worth a listening. Thank you for your attention !! You're the bests
i like how connor asks kevin if he knows anything about GNX the car and he specifies every last detail without studdering once just off the top of his head lmao
it kinda does suprises me that a lot of reactors don’t know, though when I hear music sample or no what it is, i’m 25 and my parents always played it, there’s kind of a stereotype going around there that Mexicans love house music like this so it does kind of make sense why i know it then lol

Great reaction as always guys. Such a great album. Also, I see that Godspeed record in the background, you guys need to do reactions to GY!BE’s discography, that would be awesome!
man he's something different! Kendrick since 2012 is bringing art, just art. Seems like he doesn't play with this, he takes it personal and with real commitment❤
MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD
Genuinely surprised about them not knowing Debbie Deb. I’m born and raised in SoCal so I guess it’s a local thing. Thought that was a hit around the world lmao 12:24
yeah, those Debbie Deb songs still get play on west coast radio stations, I was also surprised that so many people didn't know it.
same here and I associate it with LA so much that I thought she was from LA too
Same I thought it was an international global hit, sounds like one
I hope he performs a good amount of Mr Morale because the world deserves to hear some of that album. I went through a lot after that album came out and it helped me heal parts of myself that were in pain…and him talking about meditation has helped me incorporate that into my own life and it’s been a very powerful tool for me. Loved this video and I’m excited to go see K dot live for the second time whenever the tour comes around 🙌 Love y’all’s videos so much 🙏 Thanks for this and shoutout from Columbus Ohio 🤙
9:28 "How do you keep your pants up when performing?"
lmfao
Best album opener I’ve heard in a long time, straight goosebumps and probably my favorite on the album!
Love you guys man …I appreciate the videos
When Kendrick drops, I always look forward to your reaction the most because you guys have the ideal amount of gratitude.
