Jay Williams idiot, the time trunks became a ssj as a kid is one timeline during the BUU SAGA. In this timeline with the ANDROIDS, trunks became a ssj as a teen because he lost his only friend. They are basically two different people in two different timelines

Without time travel, everyone dies yes. It all split the moment trunks traveled back to kill frieza and give Goku the antidote. Time travel is a real bitch and gets confusing fast. Half the time I miss something and nobody will blame you either.

Buu kinda had ruined super saiyan for me. Trunks and goten got it for no reason and ssj3 is awesome but it is like ssg and SSGSS No emotion behind it

This scene for me perfectly sums up why Trunks is a far better hero than the rest of the other fighters. They prance around and hold back, instead of finishing the enemy when they have the chance. Trunks never wanted to experience this pain again. He never once toyed with an enemy, he always went at them with everything he had. It's a shame we never got a follow up of how his timeline went after he killed Cell.

In my opinion, this is the best SSJ transformation in the entire series, period. Trunks is literally the last Z fighter and last saiyan alive and his best friend and mentor sacrificed himself because he believed in the next generation. That scream was Trunks at his breaking point. His pain, heartbreak, and anguish all pent up and came boiling over at once. Gohan was the last straw and it pushed him over the edge. Poor Trunks has suffered so much.

Its not even the second. Timeline 4 is our DBZ, Timeline 3 is our Future Trunks, Timeline 2 is a Timeline we haven't seen in which Timeline 1 Trunks destroyed the Androids and went back to his TimeLine 1 only to be killed by cell who travels to Timeline 4. Timeline 3 Cell, who tried to do the same as Timeline 1 Cell, is later killed by future Trunks which stops the continuing appearances of new Timelines because there isn't a cell left to continue all of it as Timeline 4 cell was destroyed before he was finished.

It's the brief realisation that Trunks has after turning Super Saiyan that makes this scene go from a 10/10 to 11/10.
Turned Super Saiyan at last, but it was too late, and at what cost? His master/brother/best friend's death.
Which causes him to slam the ground in frustration.
That is what makes the scene that much better. Just his brief realisation that he transformed, and he hates it.
And in Super he slams the ground before he turns super saiyan...
Facts, to him... the transformation was a curse to him, to have achieved it... his best friend/brother needed to die and he couldn't wish him back... permanent loss just for a greater future.

Me when I heard.
This makes me tear up as much now as it did when I was a kid. Something about Trunks' reaction when he cries out 'Oh gosh no....what did they do to you, Gohan?!' is so powerful. You can feel his immense loss and sorrow at losing someone so dear to him, and his incredible rage and sense of helplessness is palpable through the screen. What makes it even more moving is there are no dragon balls in this timeline. Death is permanent. Easily the most memorable scene in all of Dragonball for me. THIS is how you earn Super Saiyan. It's a damn shame Toriyama decided to make the transformation meaningless and basically hand it out for free in the Majin Buu saga and beyond.

The Super Saiyan retcon they did for DB Super is just outrageous.
Its stupid but i dont think its a retcon. They are from another Universe so it isnt right to say that because they dont do it the exact same its wrong.
I believe that the reason why Future Trunks is such a beloved character, is because he is the most human of them all. I can describe this for those wondering in just two words. He suffers.
We as humans like to know that we are not alone by suffering. We like to know that our heroes can bleed, because it establishes a connection with us and them.
Future Trunks never wanted a life of glory or power. He just wanted to stop all of Dr. Gero's creations, and to prevent anymore unnecessary innocent deaths from occurring.
We like to know that they struggle along the way, and yet their journey almost never seems to end. Always another challenge that takes away something precious to them.
This is also why Zuko(Avatar), Vegeta(DBZ), and almost every character in the Marvel Universe are such fan favorites.
The symbolism in this scene shows that even in the dark and stormy night of their nightmarish lives, their may still be a glimmer of hope that can rise above. The glimmer of course would be Future Trunks. And we too like to know that we are not alone in the pain that we struggle through and endure everyday. And that maybe someday, we too may be able to rise above our natural limits. One day, we can all shine as brightly as a super saiyan.

Vegeta lost his entire race and spent his life being ruled and laughed at by an all-powerful monster, who threatened to kill his dad if he left, killed his dad anyway, then got killed himself by the same monster, after realizing he had no chance. Then he trained like an absolute beast and almost died again in a meteor storm. I'd say Vegeta deserved it more.

James Bond The present counterparts are way different from their future selves. I personally think their future selves were different people due to how ruthless they were. The present androids at least had humane in them like #18 sparing krillin. So I'm fine with the present androids joining the Z fighters but their future selves were too cold and brutal.

Greatest scene ever, not just in DBZ, but probably all of anime. Nothing will ever top this for sheer emotional impact. The music works wonderfully, echoing and amplifying the shock, utter despair, hopelessness and finally sheer rage that Trunks feels upon witnessing the horrific sight of his only friend lying dead on the ground before him. The rain. The buildup as he slowly walks toward Gohan's body. The super saiyan transformation right after. Absolutely perfect.

One of the most powerful transformation scenes, this is what Dragonball is all about, sacrifice and strength I mean just listen to Trunks "What did they do to you Gohan!?" "You were my best friend! "You meant everything to me!" Gets me crying everytime. FreedomFighter08 no since goku died from a natural cause the dragon balls are unable to restore him. Usually a person would have to die when someone kills them in order to bring him back to life.
Also the Dragon Balls couldn't revive anyone who died after they've been dead for 1 year or longer. Even so, they were made useless when Piccolo died, so it doesn't matter anyways.
Gohan was the only hope left for humanity yet he didnt notice it before he died. He should of waited for trunks to pop from pressure of the androids

What tragedy... By the time Trunks reached the high plain of super saiyan, his master was already dead, leaving him no chance of winning on his own, and leaving the future unsalvageable. Seems this scene is less of a victory for Trunks and more of a last shining light before all goodness in the world is snuffed out in darkness. It's very sad.
Can't blame Trunks for heading to the past, but it never made a fuckin' bit of sense that he didn't spend time with Gohan. It's very clear that he loves the guy and mourned his death. Perhaps its for the best, so present Gohan and present Trunks can grow up without the pain that Mirai Trunks had to go through ... Seeing all he valued burned to ash.

Well when Goku died Vegeta gave up on him for a while until he decided he would do the next best thing which is make his son stronger than Gohan but then Goku came back and he's now back on track to surpassing him. Trunks now had a stronger desire to kill the androids they didn't just kill innocent people for fun they ganged up and murdered his best friend and mentor who only had one arm thanks to them.

@@liggerstuxin1 As he was in other timeline, he scaped zeno's power, he currently lives in an alternate copy of his own, that's said by whis.
Well, the original timeline is dark. So goku not dying was the best for everyone.

This whole part was beautiful but the lines delivered at 0:26 get me every single time.
Trunks is really my favourite character. Even tho Vegeta and Goku had a good reason to go Super Saiyan, I would say I'd rather see Future Trunks become the most powerful. When he would've defeated Cell I would've been so happy. He deserved the right to. He has suffered so much, and it almost makes everyone cry in this scene, isn't that beautiful? When I feel bad I can really pull myself up by this video or by Vegeta, because they feel so human, in what they go trough and stuff. I love DBZ not just for the series, but when I feel like screaming, I just scream along with those video's. It releases a lot of pain.

Nobody as a sad back story as Future Trunks.. Warrior of Hope... Warrior from the Future...Future Trunks is my all time favorite DBZ character and Future Gohan too... This scene always break my heart... Legends never die.... I have huge respect to Future Trunks he is my true hero.
