Funny thing, I like the traditional scent in the kitchen! I think it's because that's what it smelled like at my home in cold/flu season? Every pan of dishes had a 'splash' from that gallon jug! Now I've been using more Pine sol. It has the sudsy quality and the kids think it's great, so since we're all living with the scent more directly that's been my more frequent old-school go-to. And I can find it for sale. All the floors are taking a beating with everyone home. I wonder what's the pH of Pine sol? I'll have to search that. I know it'll take the paint right off a boy's hot wheels.
My Dawn Powerwash spilled in my bag and I had a bottle of pills in there. It got all over everything but when I went to get it out and clean everything off I smelled something like paint in a can, before it’s put on the walls and dries. It was the pills bottle where the Dawn Powerwash got all on it, it ate away the label and was working on the plastic. I use that to clean grease splashes in kitchens and in the fridge. I never knew it was that strong. I rinse extra carefully now 😂.

The COVID pandemic has dumped the entire cleaning industry on it's head with regards to cleaning supplies, PPE and the way we clean. There is not a homeowner or cleaning company anywhere worldwide that is not affected by this. Like you, we are praying for a quick resolve and back to normalcy. Thanks for watching. :-)
There are people who assume that if they can't smell something strong that the area hasn't been cleaned. Clean doesn't have a smell, it's the strong chemicals that do.
Some people are allergic to coconut so you might want another scent. They probably won't go into anaphylaxis, (probably a fake scent) but smell will remind them of a bad reaction. My husb is that way. Chek w homeowner. Scent probably dissipates, but you never know
I was always taught: one capful of bleach per gallon of water will kill most germs. That's what I used during lockdown. I've also used 1/4 hydrogen peroxide into a bucket filled 3/4 to mop and wipe down surfaces. HPeroxide has a ph of about 6.2(?) so it doesn't really do a lot of damage. I have used those Scentivas and they are awesome and the coconut smell is nice, it's not overpowering like a floral scent can be. I wish companies would use a Mint or Cinnamon which I find are great smells.
Why not use peracetic acid and alcohoke for disinfectant it works great on covid 19 and most germs. All my hime made cleaners have them . Peracetic acid is the whitner in oxi clean and ocigenated lundry detergents
Dear Angela, I have been scrubbing the pink & white ceramic tiles on the bathroom floor in my 65 year old house for 58 years. They are spotless but dull. Is there any way I can brighten them up a little?
It sounds like due to age they may need to be replaced. We can't expect the same sheen on a 65 year old floor that it had when it was new. Spotless may need to be good enough. :-)
Thanks for the video. Are Clorox Scentiva wipes wrapped around a round sponge a good way to clean the corners where the baseboards and floor meet or do you recommend something else?
@@AskAngelaBrown Great, thank you for the information! Do you know of a wipe or bonnet that will fit over a yarn mop head? I like the way yarn mops can get into crevices and clean uneven surfaces like the base of the toilet.
the edges. You ever heard of using a bucket of water with a very small amount of Tide "powdered" detergent on floors including hardwood? If you have, what did you think of the results.
I do this - not on the hardwood, but on the tiled floors. We have cats so using bleach or other strong disinfectant detergents is not an option (my view is I wouldn't want it on my skin, so I'm assuming that neither do they). The soap powder works great and I also like the faint but pleasant smell.
I'm not crazy about the Scentiva product because it looks like there's significant amount of waste, since only about 1/3rd of the cloth (or even less) comes in contact with the floor. So with that said, what is your suggested mix of Clorox and water to use to mop a tile (and for anyone interested in wood floors-wood floors)? And what about using a spray bottle (or even a small electrostatic sprayer) filled with Clorox (full strength or diluted) on bathroom tile floors (with tile walls), where it would be quickly mopped up? Thanks.
+Richard Friend for tile floors a steamer is recommended since it can be cleaned with a reusable microfiber mop head. And if using steam, no chemicals other than water are required. For wood floors a damp microfiber cloth is preferred.
The bottle should tell you the dilution on the back but if you’re mopping it up right away it’s not disinfecting, it’s cleaning but not sanitizing. You have to let it sit for around 10 min visibly wet to disinfect bacteria and 60 seconds visibly wet to disinfect viruses. I didn’t know that when I first started cleaning all those years ago in my own bedroom and bathroom, I felt so grown up 😂, I was a teenager and I loved cleaning my room and organizing everything, and doing the laundry so I didn’t have to do the dishes, my mom would and I’d wash, fold, and put up all of the laundry in the whole house.
Angela, is Clorox Scentiva Sade for ENGINEERED hardwood floors? I am currently using Simple Green with a microfiber moo. But I just had a plumbing backup of black water and gunk in my double kitchen sink. Some of the black water went all over my kitchen floors (tile countertops). Then the plumber and I tracked the black gunk through my entire condo as we had to get to the outside deck to the hose bib to hook up a water hose and bring it in through a window in order to run the jet through the pipes to unblock and descale them. It’s been such a nightmare. (It happened on a weekend because these things always do). Would Clorox Scentiva have been safe on my engineered hardwood floors and a better cleaning product than Simple Green? On my tile countertops and window sill I used Clorox wipes. Thanks!
Oh no, so sorry to hear that happened. Check out the information about hardwood floors on the Clorox site, Scentivia is also mentioned in there: www.clorox.com/learn/how-to-disinfect-hardwood-floors/
Hi I’m in the uk and have just started work cleaning a children’s nursery just wondered what cleaning products would you use on the floors? That is safe around babies and pre school children. Thank you
You might have to try natural cleaning products. But with everything going on these days, you might have to clean before the kids get there and give the products time to dry up.
No, I don't recommend it - the mop pads do have a certain amount of liquid and chemicals in them and while they may technically be pH neutral, they will leave water spots on your floor when the dampness dries. I recommend instead a damp a microfiber mop head only for marble or granite floors.
Thank you, Angela. This was very informative. Since bleach is toxic to cats and dogs, I wonder if the fumes that remain in the air are unhealthy? What do you think about cleaning wood floors with vinegar?
The bleach (whatever brand and version you are using) will have an associated SDS sheet that will tell you if the fumes are harmful. You can also call the manufacturer (their number is on the SDS as well in section 1) and they can answer specific questions about the toxicity to your pets. Vinegar also has a very strong smell if you're worried about bothering the breathing of your pets. Vinegar is great when diluted to use on floors as a way to remove dog slobber and other hard to remove stains. But you have to be careful to the dilution ratios and the type of flooring when using vinegar. Wood floors for the most part need a pH neutral floor cleaner. Cleaning vinegar (white vinegar) by itself is a pH of 2.5 which is REALLY strong.
I don't have a specific product to suggest, but when it comes to cleaning stone floors, it's important to use a cleaner specifically formulated for stone surfaces. Avoid using acidic or abrasive cleaners that can damage the stone. Instead, opt for a pH-neutral cleaner that is suitable for your type of stone flooring. It's recommended to test the cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area of the floor first to ensure compatibility. Additionally, using a soft mop or cloth for cleaning and avoiding excessive water or moisture is advisable to protect the stone. Regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove loose dirt and debris, followed by gentle mopping with the appropriate cleaner, is generally sufficient for maintaining the cleanliness of stone floors.
If you can plug the drain and run some hot water in the shower pan with some dish soap. Cover the bottom of the pan and let it soak (like you would a big pan soaking on the kitchen cupboard) then scrub it out after a bit, that should loosen up all the gunk, and the dish soap should break up the gunk on the bottom. Use a hand-held scrub brush to scrub the base.
Question: Can you use Krud Kutter in a mop bucket and clean floors ? Or do you have a better dirt cutter for old house floors with kids and pets that drop food smear stuff and just all over nastyness ?
Yes, you can create a mop solution with Krud Kutter. Here is the entire line of Krud Kutter Household products www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/krud-kutter/household-cleaners - the key is to follow the manufacturers specification and dilution ratios for the type of flooring you have.
I love Scentiva products and used them all the time before the pandemic; however, since the pandemic started, I can't find any of the products at any store OR online. I found online one time and it was the spray foam. Is there a place to order online so I'm not running around from store to store trying to find any of the products?
Right now it's hard to recommend any online site. Many of them don't even have the stock available. One of my staff member has a monthly subscription on Amazon and she hasn't received any Lysol wipes for months because it says currently unavailable as well as disinfecting sprays.
You can dilute it with water - but please do not mix it with other chemicals. Clorox is one of those chemicals that is strong enough it works by itself. Changing the chemistry of it creates toxic fumes.
My mother and grandmother always used Clorox, and I use it too. But I have a question: why do some of the Clorox products not say "disinfecting"? The splashless and scented bleaches, for instance, don't seem to use the word. That worries me, so I use only the one original one. Can you help me out with this?
If a Clorox product is not labeled as a disinfectant, it likely just cleans or sanitizes. According to the site, "Clorox sells several bleach products-some are labeled as disinfectants and others are not. To determine if a product disinfects, check the label. All our disinfecting products-registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-prominently state their ability to kill germs."
Hey Andrew when you say a good ratio what do you mean? And did you mean you wanted to disinfect wooden floors? There are lots of great sanitization products on the market that will reduce bacteria load up to 99.99 percent. For most homes that is quite enough. Floors for the most part are for walking on. And while they collect dust, a gentle mopping usually does the trick.
Angela Brown. Most of the time I use clear water on my wood floors using a amount to dampen my mop. I only spot clean using a disinfectant if I need to. For example if my cat spits up. If I drip coffee or drop something it's clear water. My brother was a floor salesman & he told me when I bought this house to keep the water off the wood floors. I have done that & when I had this house inspected for a remortgage the inspector said my floors had the best patina ever!
Hello I have a question for you so is ajax powdered bleach or comet powdered bleach a better more effective cleaner and disinfectant (asking for future reference)
For what purpose? The secret to any chemical is to know if it's safe for the type of soil you are trying to remove and the type of surface you are trying to clean. Both Ajax and Comet are safe for cleaning toilets, sinks and bathtubs when used following the manufacturers instructions.
Borax is powdered bleach. It can be dampened (to not scratch some surfaces). But it cleans just as well as bleach.. I have cleaned a whole office floor & Desk and cabinets with it. It does not streak if it is measured properly.
Ur not supposed to mix bleach with other chems. Could be toxic. People have died cleaning bathrooms bc they were in a confined space breathing toxic fumes. We only have one set of lungs.
Depending on what you are trying to remove in the toilet. Usually in toilets we use an acid (1-2 on the pH scale - and bleach is on the alkaline side of the pH scale. (12-12.5) Here is the Safety Data Sheet for the Clorox products www.thecloroxcompany.com/brands/safety-information/sds/ My suggestion is to find the product you are using, and see if it is safe based on your usage type.
a family I grew up with all wood and such with only bleach and water , Luminant idk about but wood and tile didn't do anything to it. Idk if I would use it with dogs and such around but hey. But idk today I find most things you can buy now is better than bleach though. As far as the writer if they are a professional cleaner the fact that she's complainers about her customer and seems to have to be right or it drives them crazy then i would say its probably not a good relationship to begin with. Idk if i would stay with that to begin with imagine paying someone who thinks yours nuts or don't like you, or imagine getting paid by someone you can't stand, its probably not going to end well. The idea that bleacha nd lysol shouldn't be used on floors when the labels tell you how to use it to begin with its a bit crazy but hey their is better products tofay than in the 90's than bleach and lysol thank god because i can't stand it. Its fun to watch the video at least ;p
Hi Angela, I heard from someone that they mop their wood or laminate flooring (can’t remember) using water and tide powder. They said this gets rid of the haze other floor cleaners leave. Would you recommend this?
The pH for cleaning solutions on wood can be different from laminate flooring. No, I don't recommend this method as I'm assuming you're talking about TIde Laundry detergent and it was not designed for mopping floors. You also didn't mention the dilution ratios which leaves things to chance (and a huge possibility where flooring could get ruined.) When in doubt, read the label instructions from the manufacturer or call the number on your Tide bottle and ask a Tide expert. You might be able to use it without any harm - but you may void the warranty on your wood flooring.
Hi Angela! Thanks for the video. Do you have any recommendations for a good multi surface floor cleaner that can be used all over the house? Also, what is that belt pouch you are wearing in the video? Thanks!
For multi surface floor cleaning a product with a neutral pH would be preferable. They are hard to find right now during this pandemic. The apron/pouch I'm wearing is in our Amazon store. amazon.com/shop/angelabrown
Lots of similar products do similar things but they don't all do the same things. It's important to read the safety data sheets and labels for each of the products we use. Thanks for the reminder.
We do wear the booties in homes (but not when cleaning showers) to prevent tracking stuff in from outside. But as house cleaners wearing booties allows us to wear supportive shoes with shock absorbers to protect our knees, hips and back while standing and moving on our feet all day, every day. It's non-mandatory PPE.
@Theresa Ann... Angela is so correct. I recall from my Chemistry class: You mustn’t combine [certain] chemicals- released fumes can be toxic to breathe. Serious- I think it says so too on the products labels. You could also GOOGLE “natural cleaning” or search same on RUclips. Good luck & happy safe cleaning
Angela...I am extremely confused. I read "never, never, never use water, cleaners etc on your hardwood floors, only use products only designed for hardwood floors". I have "Mohawk" engineered hardwood floors and I use Bona because that is what was recommended. My hardwood floors have what appears as a dull film on them and I cannot get my floors clean. We bought this house with the hardwood already in it and I've just got to say, I hate hardwood because of it's special care. I wish I could remove every single plank but I don't have the amount it would take to do that. I can mop with Boba a small section of my floor, let it dry, then take a soft cloth and wipe that same area, and it's brown with dirt! I am frustrated. To all your viewers.. don't install hardwood on your floors! Just a note,,,I did remove the hardwood from the kitchen and I'm much happier with the tile installed and wish I could do the tile everywhere. My house is 3500 square feet. Please help me understand why I can use the product you suggested in this video...and nor damage my floors. I was told that if an owner uses anything other than what is "made fir hardwood" the finish will begin to peel 9n thecedges.
I use clear water with the least amount of water that I have to. I know that dull film your talking about & clear water will clear that up it might take a time or two. If I need to disinfect an area I usually do it by hand.
Kathryn Clark Mine are the the true old timely hardwood & if i had to replace them, they are very expensive. I think I received a replacement of $10,000 for mine & you've got twice as much as I do. Treasure them.
@@darlenemeek2201 No, mine are the "engineered hardware", and I've been told NEVER use anything but a product made for them like Bona, but I think there are a couple of other products. If engineered hardware has too much water, they will peel off along the top edges of the planks. That's why I'm afraid to use anything but what the manufacturer advises to use. It's expensive and 3500 square feet of hardwood is really a pain in the neck. I wish I didn't have it and if I had known when we bought the house, what trouble to clean they are, I would have passed this house up.

There is not a homeowner or cleaning company anywhere worldwide that is not affected by this. Like you, we are praying for a quick resolve and back to normalcy. Thanks for watching. :-)

"likes the smell of bleach" = a better way to say you have a huffing addiction.
There are people who assume that if they can't smell something strong that the area hasn't been cleaned. Clean doesn't have a smell, it's the strong chemicals that do.
Love your videos Angela. Love from Montreal 🇨🇦
Yay! I appreciate you : )
Some people are allergic to coconut so you might want another scent. They probably won't go into anaphylaxis, (probably a fake scent) but smell will remind them of a bad reaction. My husb is that way. Chek w homeowner. Scent probably dissipates, but you never know
Thanks for sharing this!

@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you Angela. Spotless is good enough.

Clorox has been phenomenal through this pandemic. Hats off to them.
With 3 dogs and cats, I think my righthand has the mop stuck to it....lol ❤️

Thanks for the video. Are Clorox Scentiva wipes wrapped around a round sponge a good way to clean the corners where the baseboards and floor meet or do you recommend something else?
You can do it that way, you can also attach them to a Swiffer Sweeper or some other form of flat mop.
Interesting, thanks so much for sharing this.
Thanks angela

Check out the information about hardwood floors on the Clorox site, Scentivia is also mentioned in there:

well, some clients cam be wrong if they are stupid enough to use bleach on wood....

LOL. Or, room fresheners that just smell like bleach.
Hi there...thanks for the great videos. They are very helpful.
Glad you like them! Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
Can I use these on marble or granite floors also?
No, I don't recommend it - the mop pads do have a certain amount of liquid and chemicals in them and while they may technically be pH neutral, they will leave water spots on your floor when the dampness dries. I recommend instead a damp a microfiber mop head only for marble or granite floors.
Hi just wanted to know what about tile
Sure, what is the question?
I find clorox/bleach a lil old school, I get it from my mom and granny, they wash the floors this way. I also don't like the smell of pinesol
Thanks for sharing!
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you so much for such a detailed answer.
Yes it is. Yor not supposed to be breathing that. Poor animals they are stuck in that.
What about pre-stained, unsealed wooden floors? What should I use on that?
Are the floors new? If so, reach out to the manufacturer to see what they recommend for your floors.
Please can you suggest what is the best thing to clean stone floor
Clean clear water & clean mop!
We use bleach n hot water on all floors done it for years...all our friends do always have...
Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
Have a question about best way to clean fiberglass shower pans the one with raise dot texture?
If you can plug the drain and run some hot water in the shower pan with some dish soap. Cover the bottom of the pan and let it soak (like you would a big pan soaking on the kitchen cupboard) then scrub it out after a bit, that should loosen up all the gunk, and the dish soap should break up the gunk on the bottom. Use a hand-held scrub brush to scrub the base.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you so much I will give it a try
Question: Can you use Krud Kutter in a mop bucket and clean floors ? Or do you have a better dirt cutter for old house floors with kids and pets that drop food smear stuff and just all over nastyness ?
Yes, you can create a mop solution with Krud Kutter. Here is the entire line of Krud Kutter Household products www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/krud-kutter/household-cleaners - the key is to follow the manufacturers specification and dilution ratios for the type of flooring you have.
Question do the krud kutter have a specific smell?

I love Scentiva products and used them all the time before the pandemic; however, since the pandemic started, I can't find any of the products at any store OR online. I found online one time and it was the spray foam. Is there a place to order online so I'm not running around from store to store trying to find any of the products?
Right now it's hard to recommend any online site. Many of them don't even have the stock available. One of my staff member has a monthly subscription on Amazon and she hasn't received any Lysol wipes for months because it says currently unavailable as well as disinfecting sprays.
Can clorox be mixed with dish soap ??? .. I use to clean my bathroom like that but once I heard mixing realises toxic gas if mixed
You can dilute it with water - but please do not mix it with other chemicals. Clorox is one of those chemicals that is strong enough it works by itself. Changing the chemistry of it creates toxic fumes.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you for answering, I won't
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you so much! I really appreciate your settling this question in my mind. Love your channel!

What do you think is a good ratio for disinfecting wooden floor?
@@AskAngelaBrown okay thank you
Borax is powdered bleach. It can be dampened (to not scratch some surfaces). But it cleans just as well as bleach.. I have cleaned a whole office floor & Desk and cabinets with it. It does not streak if it is measured properly.
Liquid bleach and dettol can I plus to get aperfume
Let me know which scent you choose. Right now, it might be the only one available in the stores. LOL. So many places are already sold out.
Ur not supposed to mix bleach with other chems. Could be toxic. People have died cleaning bathrooms bc they were in a confined space breathing toxic fumes. We only have one set of lungs.
Thanks for this information.one question. I use bleack full strength in my toliet. Not mixed with anything. Is it safe to use it this way
Depending on what you are trying to remove in the toilet. Usually in toilets we use an acid (1-2 on the pH scale - and bleach is on the alkaline side of the pH scale. (12-12.5) Here is the Safety Data Sheet for the Clorox products www.thecloroxcompany.com/brands/safety-information/sds/
My suggestion is to find the product you are using, and see if it is safe based on your usage type.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you
My wooden floor has some wear and tear, so every time I use this product, it will produce a smell. Is there any other way?
In the video we recommended a solution you might consider as an alternative. Let me know how it works for you.
a family I grew up with all wood and such with only bleach and water , Luminant idk about but wood and tile didn't do anything to it.

The only thing I use Pine sol on is my stove. Pine sol is the best grease remover I've ever found!
Great answer! Really appreciate it
I wouldn't mop my floors without bleach !
It's great that you want to keep your floors clean, but it's important to remember that not all floors can handle bleach
The scented version of bleach dont disinfect.
Lots of similar products do similar things but they don't all do the same things. It's important to read the safety data sheets and labels for each of the products we use. Thanks for the reminder.
I love clorox products.

Hello second here!😁

Would it be smart to wear the booties?
We do wear the booties in homes (but not when cleaning showers) to prevent tracking stuff in from outside. But as house cleaners wearing booties allows us to wear supportive shoes with shock absorbers to protect our knees, hips and back while standing and moving on our feet all day, every day. It's non-mandatory PPE.
I add Lysol to mines. Bleach, water and Lysol is awesome and leaves your house clean and refresh.
Thanks for sharing!!
Did you check to see if you can mix them? U shouldnt add hydrogen peroxide & bleach. Makes a gas. You might be breathing very bad fumes. Stay safe:)
Thank you Darlene,
I have 3500 square feet of hardwood and I wish I didn't
Kathryn Clark I have no answer for you other than to gripe to the manufacturer which I would do. Maybe they've got another answer now.
