by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy

    • @JM-gn9by
      @JM-gn9by Год назад +40

Definitely. That’s my take out from OMAD. I’m like I need to keep super busy cause I’m not hungry I’m just used to using the time thinking about or preparing food 😂😂😂

@@JM-gn9by I've been working at a body shop for a bit now and extra tips I learned was if you're painting the door, it's better to take off the mirror and belt molding (the trim at the bottom of the window) for a better paint job in the end. The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

I’m crying listening to this. I’ve been so hard on myself for not being able to “stick to a diet” or “stick to a routine” but the explanation of the relationship between my cycle and how my body has a variety of different needs throughout the cycle makes so much sense. Of course I give up after a couple of weeks. Because my body needs something different after a couple of weeks! But now I can see that it doesn’t mean to give up entirely. It means I need to shift and be fluid throughout the month. ❤️❤️❤️ thank you!

This is 99% SUPER brilliant!! I love this message SO MUCH. But as an indigenous women's healer, I feel the very strong need to add a caution to a part of the advice given here. PLEASE WOMEN, during the bleeding part of your cycle, DO NOT do a marathon, HIT training, or any other exercise, workouts, training, jogging... especially the intensive ones!!
I haven't read Mindy's book yet, and maybe there is some reference to that in the book, but I almost had a heart attack when I heard these brilliant people BOTH recommend extremely intense exercise in the bleeding part of the cycle 😲🤯🤯🤯😯 My 3 main reasons are below:
    1. Your uterus is VERY SENSITIVE ORGAN. During the time of increased "power" that power is needed for the cleaning out of the uterus and all of the extra blood flowing through her. She is also carrying a huge amount of excess weight from all the blood and fluid in and around her at that time, and that means the ligaments holding her in place are a lot of under pressure. Any exercise at this time can lead to uterine prolapses in the future, among many other negative consequences. Yes ladies, that's the real and deeper reason your grandmothers told you not to swim while bleeding... not because of sharks, cleanliness, or propriety, but to protect your precious inner organs from damage.
    2. Aside from risk of straining ligaments, take a lesson from traditional cultures all over the globe. Women REST and socialise during the bleeding... they don't cook, clean, care for children, and they definitely don't do any heavy work or exercise. The reason for that is to allow the uterus to do it's job, but also to allow the women downtime to rest and recharge.
    3. From an energetic perspective, resting allows and encourages the uterine energy to flow downwards, which prevents stagnation and some serious menstrual disorders from developing.
Considering the importance of Mindy's work and this amazing conversation, I'm extremely upset that hundreds of thousands of women listening to this just got told over and over again to do extreme exercise and sports during the bleeding phase... Nooooo!!! Please please please do EVERYTHING else she said, but don't do that 😭😯🙈

So, I was praying asking the Lord to show me how to take care of my body beyond the norm. Lo and behold, I somehow saw Dr. Mindy in my algorithm. So, I have lost 240lbs all naturally all ready, and due to my spiritual beliefs, I do fast often; however, I felt like something was off as sometimes my period brings the most horrible cramps. I am only on chapter one, and I realized that during my Luteal Phase, I am doing more than I need to. So, this last cycle, I decided to back off a little bit. When I did this, I noticed that my cramps on the 2nd day of my cycle were almost slim to none. I also noticed that by day three of my period, I felt energized and back to my normal self. I decided to fast until 1pm today and I think I will be able to go a little longer tomorrow. This book and this research is a game changer for so many of us. I am in my late 20s, and I want to be proactive to avoid some of the things Dr. Mindy and Dr. Chatterjee were discussing.
I think what is challenging for me is feeling weak/ guilty for needing 5-6 days of inward rest. I know culturally, black women are raised to be strong and persevere often, so this idea of " rest and pull back" feels so so wrong. Yet, I know that my body feels better already, I am also working through some deeply rooted ideas about food that I did not know were really resting dormant in my mind. Also, I did not realize how stress-adapted I was until I started to really listen to my body. I thank GOD for Dr. Mindy you are an answer to a prayer...seriously... I am telling everyone about this and have really gone down a rabbit hole in terms of researching. I have watched this podcast; as well as the CEO channel episode. Both brought much revelation and clarity !! I no longer feel guilty for being a woman and adapting my food and exercise to my cycle.

I have just forwarded this to 3 female friends- the two of you are so in tuned to women’s needs, and i think you need to lecture at medical schools!! Dr. Chatterjee- you hit the nail on the head when you said that some of us do not feel heard. Instead of doctors telling us to simply lose weight, and not believing us when we tell them that dieting is not working, they need to understand hormonal cycles and the differing needs of women at different phases of their reproductive life. I have never felt that my doctors could partner with me in my preventative health. Dr. Pelz- I just bought your book- I am 100% in!!!!

This has been a game changer for me. I haven't heard such fascinating podcast in a long time. I can totally relate to what Mindy's saying, and I am am so grateful for scientists like Mindy who investigate this basic but completely ignored aspect of human biology like the oestrous cycle. Us woman should start to respect our biology and listen to our body instead of focusing on trying to be like the men are. This has consequences on female health, sadly disregarded by the feministic movement. Let's celebrate our differences and respect them ❤

I do OMAD (as Mindy used to strongly encourage) and it´s the best I´ve ever felt. I´ve done 2, 3 or 4 smaller meals, varying amounts of IF, etc, but OMAD by far gives me the best results. When I stopped OMAD to try some other recommendations, I gained weight and didn´t feel as well. To each their own, but there´s not just one way that fits everyone, including women at all hormonal stages.

I see I'm not the only one disappointed in the limited post-menopausal discussion. Your audience may be younger than 50+ but such a blatant near exclusion perpetuates the idea that we're unworthy of attention at that age. If we're lucky, we all get there. And if anyone is surprised at the lack of basic knowledge around menstrual cycles, I'm surprised we keep dismissing older folks of any gender.
Wisdom holders are keys to less suffering and can help younger people to avoid unnecessary mistakes.

A person is not considered to be in menopause until 1 full year after their last period during which there is no spotting. The majority of people go through peri-menopause before that. Peri-menopause can sometimes last several years, and is often marked by irregular periods. Some people might even go nearly the entire year without a period, then have one, then none again. Or, they might have irregular periods and different lengths or flow rates. Often the flow rate is reduced compared to earlier in their life. A person can get pregnant if they have not used birth control during that period of 12 months after their last period because an egg may still be able to be released. Once the entire year has gone by, then a person uses the date of their last period as the date they went into menopause. But, you can’t know that until the year has passed. And, if even one period or spotting event occurs, the year-long count begins again.

Please invite Shahroo Izadi to your podcast next, Dr. Chatterjee. Her way makes the most sense to me as an overweight woman who fasted and dieted. Women and weight is a societal problem, there is so much pressure put on you to be thin, only when you are thin you will have a great life and be accepted is the underlying message. We must stop women believing that it is not ok if you are not a size zero. Restricting yourself causes all sorts of problems in your metabolism and even more in your soul. Some people believe in Ketones of being great providers to the body, others say you must not let the liver be without glycogen, because it will not work at its best then. There are so many different opinions out there! But once you live a fasting lifestyle, you will always have to fast. You will put everything back on if you eat "normal" afterwards otherwise. Please look at self compassion and intuitive eating.

Everything in this podcast makes such sense and is really fascinating BUT as a 60 year old woman I am puzzled why has there been no mention of HRT either in this podcast or any of your podcasts? I have been super interested in diet, time restricted eating and exercise and good sleep practices since reading your books and following your podcasts which have helped me hugely. However when I started taking body identical HRT aged 59 years last year I felt as though this had an even greater positive effect on my well being. I can now exercise longer and harder, I sleep better, my anxiety has reduced enormously. I get that fasting could help me further but there’s no way that I would want to stop my body identical HRT now or ever. Please Dr Chatterjee could you interview Dr Louise Newson as well to discuss the issue of HRT?

I am in my seventh decade. This is the first time ever a woman’s cycle has been explained, and how hormones work and fit (or don’t) into everyday activities and eating. I’m not sure if anyone else notices that the cycle is still there, even at this age, it is just more subtle. Our hormones are not done and dusted. They are still here, just very muted and make weight loss more challenging. The weight struggle post-menopause is very dramatic for some, including me. I had tried a couple of weeks of intermittent fasting. I realize now I started at the wrong time. I actually gave up because it wasn’t going well. I felt. I’m going to read the book and go at it again informed.
