I first spoke to today’s guest back on Episode 342 - and that episode has become one of the most downloaded episodes of the year - it has transformed the lives of many women - and men and I think this conversation will do the same.
Dr Mindy Pelz is a nutrition expert, a pioneer on the subject of women’s health & hormones, and the author of Fast Like A Girl and The Menopause Reset: Get Rid of Your Symptoms and Feel Like Your Younger Self Again.
Mindy’s aim is to empower women by explaining the biological changes that take place each month and throughout a woman’s life. She believes that, armed with that knowledge, they can improve their health, happiness and relationships. But this conversation is just as relevant for men.
We start off discussing whether weight gain is inevitable as we age. Is it our fate - and particularly a woman’s fate - to gain weight once she hits 40? It can be, she tells me, but only if women don’t know how to harness their hormones to prevent it. She explains how declining oestrogen levels can make women insulin resistant - which may be one the reasons why the diet and lifestyle that worked for them in their 20s and 30s, no longer does once they hit 40.
At the same time, declining levels of progesterone, the calming hormone, can result in lower-quality sleep, more perceived stress and increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol - which, in and of itself, will contribute to an increase in belly fat. It makes so much sense when Mindy explains it, but unfortunately, this information is still not widely known.
We cover so many different topics, including:
• How to adjust when and what you eat during different phases of your cycle.
• The importance of gut health when thinking about hormonal health.
• Why women often handle stress in a different way to men.
• The impact that hormonal changes can have on brain function.
• The practical steps we can take to improve our sleep.
• The importance of lifestyle changes irrespective of whether a woman chooses to have HRT or not.
• The best times in a woman’s cycle to resolve conflict and deal with relationship issues.
This episode is jam-packed with insightful information and practical take-homes. I hope you enjoy listening.

Oh so well said!! Women will spend 40% of our lives in menopause, so why are we not studying this a WHOLE lot more?!?!? Thank you, Dr. Mindy!!
I think it’s rooted in the sad fact that people only place value in a women’s youth and fertile years. It’s sad and disgusting.
Check out Dr. Mary Claire Haver - or any other NAMS expert! She has lots of amazing YT videos to help
Women’s health is so under looked. It’s real scary not realizing that woman health is under looked until pre-menopause hits. I’m 43 years of age I feel the change and Im scared. I have no one to talk to about this and everyone thinks I’m crazy. I wish my mommy was around.😢 I also read that if you have trauma or mental illness as a child that depression is even worse as you go through menopause, Lord, help me
@angelique2746 Don't be afraid. Instead, be thankful for the doctors we discover like Dr. Mindy at this point in our lives that will give us the answers we need to get through this change. I know you may feel alone, but there so many women's groups that can relate to you and definitely don't think you are crazy. You just have to take that extra step to reach out. Try to focus on POSITIVE reading material that will help you and less on negative material that will destroy you. Remember: The brain is a very powerful source of our being. If you believe and allow your past trauma to dictate your life in the future, then that's exactly what will happen to you. So, I suggest you change your mindset and start thinking otherwise. Peace and Blessings to you 🙏🏾
I'm 43 and Dr Mindy is exactly right. My low carb lifestyle no longer worked at all!!! I've been fasting the way she guides us to and doing keto. The weight finally shifted and I feel great!! Thank you Dr Mindy
I'm 45 and for the last few months learning more about IF and also incorporating keto. I lost 5lbs, but I need to get better at incorporating what works for my hormones
Dr Mindy is not correct when saying insuline resistance iss making the body store fat. I see 80 percent of people are storing plenty of fat from high glucose from starches and high processed wheat and sugar
@@sarahmoffett1296, keep it up, I was shocked to find out that Dr. Windy was usually right on target when you actually follow exactly what she says. If something she says hasn’t worked for you, please reconsider what you did wrong. I’m working on a 24 hour fast right now. Just the thought was enough to make me feel like giving up. Right now, I’m considering making it a 36 hour fast. That is the longest time I’ve ever done. 🙃. Will I want to consider doing a 72 hour fast? Don’t know. However, if I’m feeling good, I may just see how long I can maintain that pace. I would really love to be successful with it! 🥰
@@Changeworld408. They are attached at the hip! Lol! The carbs set up the insulin resistance ! You are both basically saying the same thing…. as I understand it. 😅
@@Changeworld408all those things spike insulin which promotes fat storage!! DR M is accurate!
So get sleep, workout in the morning, get some sunlight, and don't eat dinners late in the evenings.
I'm not sure where you got that from. She said eat late lunch and dinner in the summer and then a heavier lunch and a light dinner during summer. Where I live it's dark at 4 PM in winter, the idea was to not have heavy meals when it's dark outside, would you consider 4 PM as being late? Also she doesn't say get some sunlight, she says get sunlight in the morning to sync your body to the circadian cycle. And I have not heard her say to exercise in the morning, can you share the timestamp for that?
@@andreea-marinacozma6077😂😂
@@andreea-marinacozma607713:19. She says to move, take a walk. The red/sun light stimulates cortisol so you’ve got to work off the cortisol.
She did say to get up and exercise within 2hours of awakening..
@@Msdebbielove 10x ! Didn't remember that detail
I've noticed that Dr. Chatterjee often asks his guests about how whatever topic they're discussing might be different for women, or for post-menopausal women. The guest is usually male, and they usually scratch their head and don't have much to say to answer that question. I don't say this to criticize these guests---it's simply a reflection of the lack of research and knowledge out there. This episode has been the antidote to that lack.
I appreciate Dr. Chatterjee always remembering women in his discussions, even if the guests often don't have a good answer, at least the subject was broached. And I deeply appreciate this whole episode, it's like the missing piece that's allowing me to take the knowledge gained from those other guests and apply it in a more customized way that works for me (a 40-something woman).
Hopefully Dr. Chatterjee questioning those guests about women plants a seed for them . . . “Why don’t I know how women might be affected differently? I should look into that?” One can hope.
I have always wondered with all the havoc after menapausw, how did women ‘s body adapt before puberty? Why can't women go back to that?
Most big names in podcasting are male, so I'm always glad when they give some time for the discussion of women's health. Thanks for this
Especially when it comes from a feminist huh?
Like I said shawn, get over yourself
@@10317 Like I said 10317 LOL... get over myself? I'm not the one being a feminist pushing the term "Patriarchy"...I for one am a man that understands the importance of a family unit and how valuable it is for the youth growing up with a solid foundation so it's not about myself it's about others...men AND women sharing roles of their bond so I believe it's Mindy who needs to get over herself and her activist ways, she was obviously brainwashed in school and it has stuck with her ever since! So get lost if you can't handle the truth about this feminist! What would be nice is if she would step back and realize that BOTH men and women have their shortfalls and own problems to deal with, it's not just women
@@shawnlewis1918have you watched her videos on her own channel? She makes great points on how women with and without a menstrual cycle can benefit from modifying their diet. And it's true, how in most studies, the subjects are mostly, if not all, men. Being a feminist is about equality, not one sex dominating another.
@@kendallstark4302 Maybe you didn't comprehend my statement....I don't really give a sh*t listening to anyone who pushes the term Patriarchy...it's an activist and feminist term tearing down the family unit, put aside her knowledge, that's great and all but if a terrorist has great knowledge about something, do you support listening to that person regardless of their destructive beliefs that are an ideology??? And I'm not comparing her to a terrorist, I'm just trying to be clear here on what she believes internally is a toxic ideology that Patriarchy is a diseased system when it was the foundation of a well developed civilization and why we are where we are today...it's pure feminism to push what has been our natural way of developing into a toxic Patriarchy when it was a system that benefited BOTH men and women but now those ideologies are tearing down our foundation. Yes I agree we have some skid marks on our history like ALL nations do at some point and many STILL do today but we eventually rectified them like women not being able to vote a century ago, of course that was silly and it was corrected over time. You can't be this naive but because you are a women, you don't pick up on this behavior like I do, most people like this are very subtle in the messaging but it became clear halfway through the interview, she is a feminist, I don't tolerate feminism just like I don't tolerate male chauvinism!

I thought fasting wasn't for me because I had a bad experience but when I listened to Mindy, what she said made so much sense that I tried it her way, following my cycle, which I still have at 53, it is working! I am so excited to be finally losing weight after 30 plus years of nothing.
I always thought women fasting while on their cycle would be a bad idea and will cause you not to have a cycle. Your body needs nourishment during cycle so I don’t understand the fast on day 1 of your period logic. I’m under my boyfriend’s username btw.
@@Thaddeus-ml8if that's only if you starve yourself for an extended time. Intermittent fasting for 12-15 hours is really 'nothing'. Your body can go 5+ days without food easily!
@@melvaughn29 I have lost my periods doing 16:8 before. Fasting for women is different and can cause some to loose their cycle if they fast without considering where they are in the cycle.
The title here makes so much more sense! I listened to this as a Poscast and it was titled as Menopause: How to burn fat and live in harmony with your Hormones yet 80% of the episode was about PERIODS which really annoyed me because I though this was about menopause. It felt like a slap in the face…
Hello, could you kindly inform me about this podcast?
🌸 LOVE to see MORE for POST MENOPAUSAL women too. THANK YOU.🌸
"Hello Linda, I hope you are doing well."
Exactly! I’m a healthy young 66 year old woman who wants to be at the top of my game!
Her book helps sooo much I’m post menopausal and 36 hour fasts 12 hour eating intervals I’m about to try tomo for a month I’ll keep you posted but I think my weight will go down a lot❤️
I CAN’T “get up at sunrise.” I’m a nurse. In the winter, I go to work in the dark and go home in the dark. And I HATE winter-I stay in a funk ti the daffodils bloom.
Is there any way you can go to sleep close enough to a window that you could have the sunrise light shine on you even if you’re sleeping? I have a window that I have made it allow the sunrise light to come in to the room when I’m sleeping. It has worked out great for me. Hopefully, I have been able to help you in some way.❤
@@charannhare4369 Lol I get up and go to work BEFORE the sunrise.
As a teacher, I feel your pain! I’m up at 3:45 and home around 6 pm or later. It’s tough!
1:53:13 they talk about this
I am an RN, too, and have the same issue 😢
I am stunned! I listened to this video, then went through my planner to see what my days looked like during my last two cycles. I made BIG plans and had BIG ideas in the manifestation stage. I was more tired and lightened my list of things to do the week before my period, even canceled my workouts. I was much more energetic and efficient in my work, with a more pleasant attitude, during the first week of my cycle. So just from my own calendar, I can see an amazing rhythm that I've never known before! I am going to label the days of my planner with this information and continue to test this out. My husband is a future planner, massively into wanting to know what we will be doing two and three weeks from now. Drives me crazy because I won't know how I will feel then. But maybe now I can! I can schedule big projects and trips for certain times of the month, and stay close to home, and have more relaxing time when I need it. So much to think about!
Personal note: I am 49, suffer from insulin resistance and PCOS, and struggling to lose weight. I will use this information to change my workout schedule, too!
I am blown away to find out our cycles sync through smell of hormones. I actually got goosebumps. We are truly such incredible beings.
I tried to take fasting seriously during my cycle. This month I’m doing really well. I’m approaching 40 and trying to figure this out before perimenopause starts. Thank you for all of the info. Fasting has made me feel soooo much better overall!
I would love to see a summary video that's less than 20 minutes that takes the key parts. REALLY hard to watch the full 2 hours. But still have the original and then a followup summary one. Just a tip to get more interaction from people that probably see it's 2 hours and just don't watch.
Basically eat protein, exercise and do intermittent fasting. Nothing new.
You can listen to it while going about your day. It's a podcast, like a radio program.
A lot is new, the whole bit about hormones and how our modern world ignores female hormones in all medical studies until extremely recently. Everything she says about cycles. Super important and I definitely had to take notes and watched in the span of 3 days..
Watch at 1.5 or 1.75 speed. Once I discovered it I never watch anything on RUclips below 1.5 now.
Agree. Total waste of precious time wading through a video this long. That’s why people are putting on weight, sitting around watching overly long RUclips videos.
Thank you Dr Mindy . At 66 I will be advising younger women to listen. Thank you Dr Chatterjee for all your podcasts. It is so heartening to listen to the people you interview. I love the way they and you share information to help us all. 🙏👍😊
This was absolutely amazing!!!! Just hitting the 40s and this has helped tremendously!!! I literally I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my body. And this has answered my question. Thank you Dr Mindy!!!

I’m so grateful for this as a woman with pcos and having gained weight in My mid 40s about to be 50 and can’t lose belly fat and weight horrendous moods during week before period !
This is such an important conversation. I would like to see more discussions on Women’s health, especially regarding menopause and connected sleep issues. Thank you for a great podcast.
I'm convinced that the chronic stress since lockdowns, losing my job, friends, reinventing myself too slowly to feel secure etc. threw me into perimenopause. I was regular, 30 pounds lighter, and didn't have scalp psoriasis before it happened. And, yes, the old ways aren't working, maybe because I still have a lot of stress and haven't adjusted to the new normal. I'm also convinced that I shouldn't be doing things like HIIT at all since I am so stressed, since that stresses the body. I have my own breath work/body scan/Yin yoga practice and sometimes throw vinyasa in there, but, I still feel like I'm in someone else's body.
I also thought I was in someone else’s body. But then I started listening to Mindy Pelz on YT. Soon, I bought one of her books because the ratings were so good. Her book, called Fast like a Girl, is on Audible. I don’t have time to read but I listen to this while I drive or clean my house. I have read it once and am midway through my second time. It’s worth the read, and I’m starting to get my mind and body back through slow improvements to my lifestyle.
@@ishouldknowthis5095 :) She's got a vocal quality (nasal-y, and vocal fry-y) and delivery (talking loudly at me, rather than to me) that's pretty harsh in her videos for me, but then again I'm a voice artist and probably a bit critical. I'll have to check to see if she's got a demo up on Audible. Thank you!
Loved this podcast! Love Dr Mindy I can hear the passion in her to help women .
I’m 70 and have applied many of her techniques. I just wish that there was a Dr Mindy to help in my earlier years.

This is because we were "taught" we are EQUAL!!! So much so we are busy building careers and being masculine that we have forgotten that we are DIFFERENT! We forgot the last part...Equal BUT Different. The plumbing is not the same. Thank you Mindy for reminding ladies about all the things that we forgot!
Mindy was listing 5 things for over 40’s to do, number 4 was toxicity, she didn’t get to 5, does anyone know what it is?
Powerful statement and absolutely true!!
YES we need to research more women. I’m in perimenopause and have been for two years. I’m not on any medications due to insurance and having cancer previously. It has destroyed my marriage due to ZERO libido. 😢 my sleep is horrible, I’ve gained 75lbs and I’m completely miserable. I started the 18:6 IF my protein intake is 110 grams and keep my carbs and calories in my window as well. I drink 120oz of water a day as well it seems to be helping tremendously. I just purchased a home gym and starting my strength training. I work a physical job M-F 7am - 3:30pm and I work out at 5am to 5:30am and will be starting my weight training in the evening.
I’m 46 and 5’11 and 245lbs 😢 my goal is to get back to 175lbs and gain muscle.
I have polycystic ovary syndrome as well
Thank you Dr Mindy for representing voices of us women
Love a woman that is going through menopause they are the ones that understand what the body goes through. Love her for trying to explain to both men and women this subject was hidden from many of us and now we struggle to understand.

It is always awesome to hear someone say "get up at dawn, meditate with a Red Light, then go for a walk, get out for a walk at Lunch, don't eat when it is dark in the Winter but have a big Lunch and go for a walk....". Where do you live? Fairy Land? I get up at dawn, wake my son, leave for work, have 30mins Lunch breaks, get home around 7 or 8 pm, have dinner and go to bed. Am I the only one? These Tips don't sound like they are made for Real life people....
Why not? It's not like you have to meditate for hours or go for hourly walks. You could easily meditate for 10 mins. Go for a walk for 10 mins (even on your lunch break). Not eating during the dark of winter is sensible considering we are less active during the colder months.
One can make excuses, or one can slowly shift their schedule in the right direction to prioritize health. It's a choice.
Medication as part of my ongoing cancer treatment makes it very, very difficult to get out of bed before midday
Exactly I commented exactly this. Many women even into their 70s are working and also running the home
You just need to put yourself in priority. I used to be like that, too. But now I get up early , get some morning sun and a little quite time in my vegetable garden , cook breakfast / lunch , pack their lunch, see them onto school bus. Pack my own breakfast & lunch to office, eat breakfast while checking email between 9-10am , and do some chair resistance training or stair climbing right after (about 15 mins) . Resume working, lunch around 2pm, and find reasons to walk around talk to people or go downstairs for a brisk walk of 15 mins. No dinner most of the time, but I still cook dinner for the family. Just need to plan well, I do pack half of the dinner protein into my lunchbox, and increase protein in my breakfast. I will walk 1 hour or 2 while waiting for my children on their sports practice.
Two of my most respected pillars. Dr Mindy you are amazing. Thank you for your incredible passion and for helping women!! ❤
It's interesting to adapt your regular routine to your menstrual cycle. I think I do it instinctively but I didn't realize it. I do weight lifting but I would lift less heavy a week before my period. I thought it's cos I was tired but it's just how my body works. I also do 13 hours fast unconsciously! Dinner by 7 or 8 pm, breakfast by 9 or 10 am. Interesting!
I have never struggled with weight and just being sensible for a week or so after a holiday has always worked to shift the holiday binge weight- until it didn't! It all changed when I hit 45 n everything which worked before didn't. I started fasting in the first half of my cycle and hey presto, ut is working. Thank you Dr Mindy
Ps- I'm a 47 year old woman
I have a food garden. So I’m going there everyday after breakfast and walking my dogs and mostly I’m there for 3 hours. I always feel so good after. And when I’m back I walk my dogs again. I’m trying to listen to my body and watch what I eat. I don’t eat processed foods anymore. No sugar. No bread.I cook fresh meals I’m so enjoying it. I’m loosing weight like 500 grams a week. I sleep great. Less stressed. I’m 48.
When I changed my foods, i don’t have extreme back pain and stomach pain when I get my period. I was like shit I think I’m having my period. Normally I know because off the back and stomach pain. I love the way I feel now.
Sincerely the best episode I have heard this year. Thank you doctors so so much. You have brought this 44 year old to the realization that we all need rest.
I weighed 118 lbs in my late teens early 20’s but then I start gaining weight rapidly around my early 20’s my menstrual cycle started becoming later than normal . I didnt change my diet or activity level and I kept piling on the pounds. A GYN suggested I had PCOS. I managed to lose 30 pounds and was able to conceive our only child. I didnt get diagnosed with T2D until I was 37. I was never told about the connection between lower estrogen level and insulin resistance.
I learned how to be a woman at 42 thanks to this woman, thank you Dr. Mindy!
Thanks for highlighting the complexities of the human body!
Ladies we can lose the weight....and GAIN our health❤❤
True! My question is, why didn't this happen to our forefathers/mothers? Weight is purely lifestyle!!
@@hellenkini1943because human life styles and food environment entirely changed from our forefathers and foremothers… including the terrible government food pyramid recommendations that many people listened to
We are guinea pigs in the medical profession. I had knee pain and mistaking went to my PCP. He did t ask me any questions about lifestyle. He just wanted to put a needle in my knee. Not happening. These conversation are so important as you say. Thank you.
At 37, nearly 38 years old I am experiencing many of these symptoms. Struggling with weight loss, (in the gym everyday/ consuming healthy food). So disheartening not to be seeing any results.
This conversation is so interesting.
I agree blood work/ hormones/ women’s hormones/ health during perimenopausal/ menopausal stage needs to be taken more seriously for sure.
Sorry ladies. I must be from another pĺanet or not fully human. I almost never had period pain and the only thing I experienced at menopause was the cessation of my periods, abruptly, from one month to the next. My belly fat occurred at age 17, immediately after returning to my birth country, the U.S, and starting college. I seem to have gained 1 lb of visceral fat per year until retiring, moving back to Mexico, and watching these podcasts. For me, intermittent fasting and removal of diet soda from my diet led to the astonishing loss of my belly fat and eliminated the need for statins within a week. I have never liked sweets, which is why type 2 diabetes had come as a surprise to me.
What was the point of bragging about this? You didn’t add anything of value to the conversation.
Phytoestrogens completely eliminated this problem for me. Later in life I had the described problem with weight gain and found it was a problem of sugar addiction. I eat loads of whole fruits and sweet potatoes and legumes as part of a whole food balanced diet. The weight fell off at almost 1kg /2lbs each week.
This is the best youtube video I have ever watched that actually taught me something about myself to help me heal myself. Thank you so much!
PCOS with insulin resistance, Quit smoking at 21, quit alcohol completely at 28, no regular cycle after almost three decades of being on birth control, went off the pill early 30s, periods came every two or three months, always had a pregnant looking belly all my life, but never been pregnant. I didn't lose any weight, but I got pregnant at 39 after cutting out sugar down to whole food fruits, and cutting cow milk, took me 2 weeks to heal my acne with these lifestyle changes, took me 6 months to get regular timed menstrual cycle, took me a year to get pregnant, stuck to a regular whole food diet during pregnancy didn't overeat, didn't starve, just chose whole food if I was hungry and rarely had convenience or ate out. Baby one came a month early, healthy otherwise. Baby two was pregnant with 6 months after first was born. Second baby came on time and healthy. Diagnosed type 2 diabetes at 42 years old while trying to work full time job from home with two kids at home to also care for with very little help available because pandemic (once a week, 4 hours) so lack of sleep working sometimes allnighters. I try to get 6 hours now. I'm on ozempic and taro-gliclazide for type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar is back to prediabetic levels. I'm watching total carbs not just sugar grams now. I've noticed craving are gone i no longer feel deprived and weight easily coming off with diet changes and even faster with 5,000 steps (about 45 mins to 1 hour of walking) three times a week, I'm also getting enough carbs, protein and fats for my ideal weight 145lbs, I did the math to figure out macros. I'm down to 212 from 219 after 4 weeks. First week I lost 3 lbs, I'm fasting 2-4 hours between meals currently. meals are much smaller though as hunger is reduced probably from the medication.
Rangan and team... please change the title of this podcast... it's click baitish and misleading! You're well beyond needing to do that!
Please call it Learn to improve your life and relationships by tuning into hormonal cycles or something like that. People are searching for this info and won't find it like this!
Good conversation. Love Mindy. ❤️
So true!! I only found this video by random chance.
Exactly! Title definitely doesn't match the contents!
Good suggestion - this video was amazing & I learned so much re: hormones and cycles. These were the changes I did to finally lose the extra weight I gained in my 30-40s but I figured it out by chance and trial/error.
This discussion ignores the fact that many women now work well into their seventies... They also are the cook and housekeeper in the evening so having main meal at lunch is complicated. They can't just get up and do yoga and go play in the sun. Those women who are single and living alone can adapt meal times but many can't.
Thank you Drs. Chatterjee and Pelz! This was a very informative Podcast! I am in my late 50's and have been so confused about my body changes and the menopause stage. This has opened my eyes. I appreciate you both for taking the time to speak about "Hormones" in depth. Subscribed to you both and happily reading "Fast Like a Girl" Thanks again!
Excellent points Dr. Mindy. What also needs to be discussed is how come Drs. don't prescribe womens sex hormones Estrogen, Progesterone and testosterone like they do for the hormones insulin & thyroid??? DR. Barbie Taylor ( retired OBGYN) gives many tutorials on utube to educate woman on menopause! She's an excellent resource.
This makes me want to cry. I don't recognize my body anymore and my tricks aren't working and I'm wiped out. I need to implement her protocols but I don't know where to start
I am going to try to start with sleep. I am going to try to be off screens after dark, sleep in a cool dark room, get a long enough stretch, and try to get some natural light in my eyes in the morning.
Start with sleep. Dark cool room, no screens after dark. Enough hours. Try to get natural light in the morning.
I have always felt powerful during my period. Like I am the one that is the boss of everything and can stand my ground.
42 years old and have felt before that anyone can understand what has been going on in my body like Dr Mandy did. !! Endless search in YT and google but never found anything so related
Dr Mindy is on yt
Thank you for this excellent discission with Dr. Mindy--I wish I had known about this when I hit hormone chaos at 50--really went through a lot that I could have softened or avoided. Now at 60 I have incorporated many of Dr Mindy's hormone and other biochemistry info and it is such a blessing of health, mental and physical. Much thanks to you both.
Listen to your body. If you feel like a powerful workout a week before your period or even during, go for it, but if not, then do not. I don't go by my cycle but by how I feel. I am 46. It's more than just a cycle that influences how we feel and function.
I discovered Dr. Rangan's videos a few months ago and have always gained great insights from watching his interviews. However, in this interview, which was originally promoted as being for women over 40 and menopause, I found that I walked away with little to no insight on on how to deal with my hormones at my stage in life. This was because the conversation consistently focused on young women, and continually shifted in that direction whenever the subject of menopause was mentioned. I was so confused that I decided to look through the comments section to find other women's impressions, and noticed that Linda picked up on the same thing, and had a similar experience to mine. Just thought I'd share these thoughts.
Her book menopause reset is very clear and gives clear instructions.
You need to get dr.mindys book "fast like a girl" or "the menopause reset". I stumbled on dr Mindy back in July of this year and she has helped me to understand my hormones and how to balance it. I was pretty sick back in the spring and my family dr. Could not help me figure it put. Thank goodness I found her and her reset community and she has helped me tremendously and I feel so much better and on the path to healing. Hope you check out her videos on YT
Time stamps would be so helpful.
I have NOT slept well since I delivered my first child. Afterward, any noise or no noise I am up and checking: kids, dogs, home, & property. Bathroom visit & then back to bed. If I cannot sleep, I stay up til I get sleepy. In 2 to 4 hours I go back to bed & sleep a bit more. If it is not drug-induced, I never get 8 or more hours.
And drug-induced is very rare.
I love this type of amazing informational discussions or interviews! I'm so glad that someone finally got us women! For yrs and yrs I have struggled with female issues like heavy periods, pms, mood swings, bloating, depression, difficult pregnancies etc, etc, and I always felt invisible and like no one cared., Im glad this is going public, since many, especially women refuse to talk abt "the woman issue", unless is to discriminate and prejudgel
The title never does justice to this podcast... So in depth and so insightful, I love it! (and every episode I have seen) Thank you (for existing :))!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this interview was life-changing for me. Thank you!
Any man that gives time to talk about how women are different and make space for this has my instant respect ❤
I'd like to see something like this for post menopausal women. We still have these problems, they dont go away once youve gone through the menopause and come out tbe other side. You dont have a cycle to time things by, would it still help to follow some sort of cycle for instance following the moon or the cycle of women in your group? Do these things talked about in this podcast, apply in some way to post menopause or do we need something completely different. Is anyone even talking about it?
This is what I'm wondering, I wish I'd known when I was younger about what I've heard so far but I need to prepare for post menopause.
Starts around 1:20:00
I wish that I’d heard this conversation 25 years ago. I’m waiting for a cancer diagnosis for uterine cancer tomorrow. Tbh, I am scared but I will do everything Dr Mindy says. I wish everyone could hear this important podcast.❤
Hi Lookup the Doctor’s RUclips channel. She has lots of great videos on post menopausal women.
I’m 57 and wo a cycle since 2012. I’ve taken on a serious of wtf and growing physically larger , ugh! I’m noticing through these recommended fasts that my rhythm mimics ( of what I recall) my youth’s rhythms of the monthly cycle. This was my ah ha moment this week.
James smith does a video on menopause 😊
Wonderful information... like getting 3 medical consults for free! Brilliant and empowering, thank you both 😊
Yup free quality health education . No excuses for the majority tbh to not having some basic knowledge in this era of information abundance
Have *
Wonderful, a true, wholesome somatic approach to wellbeing.
And feminism....smdh
I am in my early 40's and have been doing intermittent fasting and healthy eating for 2 months with great results. I added a 36 hour fast and at hour 32 was incredibly nauseous. I drank water and had some sea salt throughout the fast to keep hydrated and to have minerals. Is there something I was doing wrong?
Mindy is an absolute legend! So much vital information to share and thank you Rangan too for leading a great conversation. I have both those books and they are just brilliant resources. I can't recommend them enough to any woman over 30.
I’m in menopause right now,in my life.Have Pcos,and I’m insulin resistance.
This information is imperative.
🙏🙏🙏 you both.
@DrMindy mentions a study on breast cancer and the impact of less 64% reocurrence with fasting. Can you please share the link to this study? 🙏
Thank you for your life changing podcasts Dr Rangan and Dr Mindy!
This is phenomenal. I think I'm going crazy at times. I am 56. I had a partial hysterectomy in the middle of going through menopause. I have fewer normal feeling days. I get over stimulated easily. I have no clue what phase my body is at or where to begin to get back to any kind of normal.
People from Los Angleles do not really understand the massive changes in seasonal weather and daylight. In London there is around 9 hours less in winter as summer, in Scotland is can be up to 12 hours. In LA its less than 5 hours.
Oh my, I enjoyed this conversation so much, it's such an important topic and we need to talk about it!!
lol
L
Me llll
L lo lol
This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!❤
Dr. Mindy is a living legend! 😊
Thank you, for getting to menopausal women at one hour, 21 minutes! What a relief😅 a fantastic informative easy to listen to wonderful contribution to women - thank you so much! Brilliant job🎉
Thank you for this meaningful conversation--the importance of empowering women and men with this information really cannot be overstated. That said, it's a bit of a disservice to the topic, guest, and (potential) audiences to use a click-bait title about belly fat.🙄
I don't know why you'd call a talk "how to lose weight after 40" and then focus the conversation predominantly on women who still had their period. I'm 51 and just went into menopause a year ago, and I'm struggling to adjust my workouts, sleep cycle, etc. So I am listening to shows aimed at my demographic with interest. This show has so far focused on adapting your routines to the menstrual cycle which is NOT helpful to me at all. Dr Pelz mentioned that women tell her they "feel seen" but I definitely don't feel seen. I'd like to suggest you aim for more clarity in your show titles and content generally when it comes to this issue.
So much info - i would love a shorter summary video with just a tip.
Very interesting. I’m 50 and seriously struggling with menopause in the sense of extreme hot flushes and night sweats which is causing sleep deprivation. It’s been over 6 months now and taking its toll. I’ve lost 35 kgs over the past few years and within goal weight range. Been doing healthy keto and IF for a year and my symptoms are getting worse. Researched as much as I can but actually besides Dr Mindy and Dr Berg, there really isn’t much help out there. I refuse to do HRT’s. Dr Mindy said more research on women needs to be done. Here I am putting my hand up😂, pick me pick me, feeling helpless
This is great discussion. I also find that as we get older we become lazier and not dance, play football or whatever sports and not looking after diet especially with dinners, going out attending parties, offices eating sugar products eg donuts - emotions can change due to losing loved ones, break ups, children issues - not able to time manage to be able to exercise. Lifestyle factors will be different for everyone depending what lifestyle you chose. Definitely love to the Intermittent fasting to reset the body - to then start eating healthy and get exercised again. Love it - I agree this is the way
Would a study on menopausal women using continuous blood glucose monitor and measuring cortisol levels be a good start?
This is amazing I feel like a lightbulbs went off here!! Thank you.
This conversation is such a wonderful gift. Not only is this so helpful, but it's inspiring as well. I am incredibly grateful to both of you for giving us this gift. I took away so many juicy nuggets that I will put into practice and share with others.
How can fasting be for everyone when we diabetics are supposed to keep our glucose levels as even as possible, and the best way is to eat smaller meals and snacks over a longer more even period of time? The longest I'm to go without a small snack is 8 hours, when I sleep. It was not mentioned with your list of people who should not fast.
Lots of fasting experts are saying that diabetics who fast can actually cure their diabetes. Research Dr Jason Fung. He is a kidney specialist who noticed some things in his practice and realised some fascinating things about diabetics. You'd have to work with your doctor, but lots of doctors figure you don't want to make lifestyle changes and just want meds. You can keep your glucose levels stable and lower while fasting, and then you wouldn't use insulin during fasting periods. I hope you find some answers through Dr Jason Fung xxx
Absolutely hate the headline, but fabulous content. I listened to this because it was two Doctors discussing women's hormones. Thank goodness I ignored the headline. Love your messages!
Just over 59mins into this podcast. Absolutely fantastic
Thank you, Dra Mindy. This podcast gives me more understanding about myself now. All along, I thought there was a problem in me. That I wasn't good enough... That no one understands... Thank you, for the topic. I hope this will be watched by husbands out there.
Would have liked to hear more about Menapause
I disagree. I had no problem losing weight and being in shape w a healthy diet and exercise in my 40s.. It wasn't until 54-55 after menopause that put on weird back fat. Bhrt helped immensely along w intermittent fasting. I feel great now. Oh and lots of plants added to my diet.im 59 now
Who is talking about women after menopause? Love you. Thanks.
I like dr Rangan ‘s hair today, of course he is always a good interview
Last week I started intermittent fasting at 45....lost 2 pounds in one week. Didn't change anything else. It gave me a hope I didn't have prior, because being this age with kids and a husband I wondered led how I was going to lose this extra belly fat I gained thru stress eating and my old tricks where NOT working 🙃
Can you share how you did it? When did you eat? How many hours did you fast per day? Did you drink water?
Im so looking for that Fast like a girl journal 💖
Love the way she explains thing like no other🎉thankyou
I get hot with too many regular blankets, I don’t think I can handle a weighted blanket….sounds too hot. This conversation is so interesting and informative. Thank you so much.
You got it again Mindy - exercise at post-menopausal is the answer; as is running and walking with others - and always, yoga. :)
Full of interesting information. I am wondering which red-light therapy product or brand you or Dr Mindy recommend ? Thank you ❤
I love the he cares about the needs of women.
I am enjoying your extremely well communicated information thank you Dr. mindy
Dr. Mindy is cool. I’m down 45 lbs with walking, weight training and intermittent fasting. Calories in/out doesn’t fully explain the realities of our bodies since reducing calories only works to a point (i.e. the point at which the body slows metabolism). It’s more like a algebraic equation:
Body Fat = calories in(vw) - calories out(xyz)
…with the variable “vw” including quantity & type of calories; and “xyz” including physical output, fasting and the body’s set point.
The above is still an oversimplification…
I love her she really cares about women thank you for this podcast ❤️
