Not in my family AND not in the families of any one I know actually. The world is what we make it. Everyone is not the same, there are always exceptions to everything. Many many many people “in the West” Do know the Elders are treasures of wisdom. It depends on the “culture” of each individual family household. There are no coincidences in life. Yesterday I was asking God why do humans not understand that life is about love, not all the negative things we see. Today he sent me a gentle reminder in the form of an angel. What a wonderful human being Gladys is. So very happy I had the opportunity to listen to this conversation.
Proud of you never too late as far as I am concerned for anyone to learn anything not right time or wrong time say same about myself 😊 I'm 72 & that's what I love about getting older only need few knocks in life makes one stronger more confident, soon start to learn. Keep standing up for ourselves & anyone else I say 😅
That gives me hope at 74. Lots of struggles now and no ability to retire, but at least working keeps me active, engaged and working around many younger people.
This episode pop up at exactly the right time when I thought in my 50’s I had no purpose in this life. Listening to her has given me hope in the future and to leave the past mistakes behind me. ❤
Thank you! This is so inspiring to me. I am 71 and grateful every day for waking up. I’m making new friends, learning new things that i love, and so enjoying my grandchildren!
Im going through a severe midlife crisis at the age of 38 and have been depressed since i turned 35 because i thought my life was over since i am still single childless and not established career wise.. But this conversation lit a lightbulb in my soul ❤ Thank u
I'm 65 and when I was in my late 30s I started to question life's big questions. What's my purpose on this earth, why am I here. I was in good marriage, 2 healthy beautiful children, etc. Yet, felt I was missing something. I read Betty's book "Embraced By The Light". Bought 5 copies and gave them out. You, Doctor, are as inspiring as Gladys. You show such respect to the people you interview, especially in the way that you intently listen to them. You are so polite and so obviously deeply deeply compassionate. Doctor, in the truest and most noble sense of the word, is most certainly your calling. Thank you for all that you do. People like you make this world a much better place.
🇺🇸. Agree. Never too late to improve ourselves and learn from other or as it appeared that Gladys said, find something that is loved in the other person, not for one self only, but-to give the other person hope 🇺🇸
And she remembered all the way back when she jumped in the pond instead over the pond. And every body were laughing so hard! 103 years old, she got an incredible memory
As somebody who reached 60 in January and is definitely changing her life purpose, this woman has provided a blueprint for my own aging into health journey. I treasure people with such capacity to live and prosper. Thank you for this Dr. Chatterjee.
Great podcast w/Gladys! Early on when she talks about refusing help from the man at the grocery store it rang a bell w/me. I’m a 78 yr old female (I don’t look or act it) and am just realizing recently to let people help me. I’ve been on my own a very long time, divorced and never remarried for 40 years. I got so used to doing everything on my own and had the attitude that I was so powerful and didn’t need any help. I regret that now. I’m only now accepting help even for small favors when they are offered. It helps me and more importantly it gives the helper joy and purpose for him or herself. It’s an honorable thing to help someone and to be helped!
I took an unexpected slump at 70. Now 72. I am listening to bring back meaning at a time where many options are no longer there. I wasn't prepared for this slump. But I will regroup and keep going because to be this age and we'll, means we always regrouped and kept going. Good luck. The force is with us!

This woman is so beautiful, full of wisdom . I can listen her all day. Life, love, laughter, labor, listen. Her mother did a wonderful job in her up bringing. She talked so much of lessons learned from her mother.

Wish I had known this about just letting things go 50 years ago. My life would have been completely different from just one encounter. Beautiful woman....Gives me hope for the next 50.
I am 82 and expanding my business to fulfill my purpose. Thank you, Gladys for inspiring me to not stop. I realize that my own attitude has been to live with no regrets, despite many unpleasant experiences. I’ve looked at all of them as an opportunity for growth and understanding. I'm only 78 and when I went to medical school I couldn't get a loan because I was a woman. All 6 of the women in a class of 126 had fathers who believed in them and were helping them through.
How wonderful to have a father who believed in their daughter enough to spend that kind of money. Also Gladys' Mom was a wonderful and intelligent person who cared about her children's mental health.
My mother received her PHD in biochemistry in 1948. She was the smartest person I have ever known. I am sure glad her father and my father had such faith in her.
‘’When you learn something in regards of healing you have to share it” thank you Gladys for your beautiful wisdom 😊💐 I feel so blessed that I was able to listen to this amazing podcast. You just made my day very beautiful. 😀
Born 1921. What an incredible time period. She experienced a lot of the 20th century. Now in her twilight years of her life, her testimony shows us the brevity of time. Each and everyone of us will reach this point in our life at some time. Many of us will be fortunate enough to make it to 80. So wise advice from her for sure.
Absolutely love this lady. Humanity needs a lot of healing. And much Soul Searching. To get rid of toxicity and go in a positive direction. Both is exactly spot on. Finding purpose & align with purpose. This is a fantastic video. Just beautiful. Gladys & you are an earth angel. Great insight.
One in a million like Gladys..Let us encourage others too follow in her footsteps...I just feel like listening to her, golden wisdom.. Keep shining as always..Life is worth living, not winging about..
What a beautiful thing...how can we as a family..mske sure if something like this happens again, we can make sure people laugh with and not at...so beautiful.
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us, Gladys. You are an inspiration to me at 57 when I really needed to hear this. I also love your name, that is my Granny's name too, and she was another amazing woman. Rock on, Gladys!!!
That was cute when she said when her little grandkid touched her neck and she was "thrilled". Physical closeness and touch can be so powerful. Good thing that we have this whole virtual reality like FaceTime, videocalls, but a tight chest to chest hug with a loved one is definitely one of the best feeling. Personal contact is the "real thing". I also agree with that on paper you can seem healthy, your blood test can be perfect, but if your soul is lonely or you don't get the love you want, then you are not that fully healthy...The 5 L: love life laughing listening labour, I would highlight the laugh. VERY VERY important to find some humour even in our darkest days...a good joyful belly laugh everyday with a loved one can definitely increase our happiness level, plus it absolutely makes us feel alive. It's wise to be responsible, but don't always take life too seriously, sometimes we win, sometimes we fail, and it's okay, we have to learn to laugh at ourselves.
I am 80 years old now and I can honestly say that the five Ls she mentioned are absolutely essential. Actually, in my retirement years now I am so much more able to pay attention to things of interest to me. I can listen to things for hours on end to learn more and more every day. I only listen or read things that I can learn by..once in a while I do solitaire or watch a program I love (NCIS), but for the most part I’m only geared toward substantive info..
This is such an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing her story. I went home and we went to the cemetery. Ther was a shiny new black headstone with a suitcase engraved (white. So it stood out on the background). I had to go over and look. It was a lady who was over 100 yr old. (centenarian). As I got closer, I read the writing above the engraved suitcase (literally, a huge suitcase with a handle) . It said, “GO, GRANNY, GO”!! Probably 30years later, I still remember that moment. I wished I could have had a conversation with her. Mostly, I realized her life was fulfilled and well spent. How many of us can say that?
What an amazing, beautiful and inspirational lady. Thank you so much for this opportunity, I’m truly touched and grateful to have watched your interview with the delightful Gladys.
Wow! Amazing interview from start to finish. The highlight was when she mentioned AZ! I looked up Gladys and she's in Scottsdale, and I'm in Phoenix. I hope to run in to her someday. She's a great inspiration to LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH, LABOR AND LISTEN.
Dr McGarey provides no-nonsense, meaningful navigation through phases of our lives based on her own experiences. Truly inspirational - this is the very BEST conversation I have ever viewed (and there have been many). Thank you so very much for creating this exchange.
This was helpful to me. I have always regretted letting so many of my teachers down when they invested so much of themselves in me and in their other students. They probably forgot me easily while I carried my gratitude, love and shame with me into my seventh decade! Gratitude is enough. I hopeG-d will let those teachers know how their caring and efforts left indelible impressions.
She is brighter than most . Loved hearing about her mum. More gorgeous and youthful than many . Elders of this age, exude a new born baby look about them , I see . Dress sense is suitably energetic, the cool green with abstract print , single noticeable broach jewel , the dainty long necklace of bead, and matching broach style rings ; and the beautiful braid bun hair do ; she is like a girl in a painting . What she said from her experience I need to think on about not fixing things ; being a maintenance person, jump to fixing it. (Don't know whether I can break the habit but at least I don't try and fix things that are not broken). Love the background, with all her nice things on display in the handsome real deal wood wall cabinet . Looking at her home decor . She is truly amazing ! Totally gorgeous and youthful and endearing woman . Didn't like the "mother earth" thing . But that's me . I don't like the hippie in anyone . Nor in me so no one gets upset by my aversion to that part of her message. This was a hopeful, and optimistic, pleasurable video, especially for RUclips . I hope it inspires others to do the same as it is the circle of life skills sharing and rather important. 😊
Needed this. Thank you. Heavenly Father please continue to protect me and my sons. As a single mother God has carried me. Both of my sons are special needs. I’m overwhelmed because I’m struggling to provide the necessities for my sons like food and clothing and I struggle to pay rent each and every single month yet my struggles have brought me closer to Jesus. I know he will get me through this hard time in Jesus name.❤️
I am both so sorry and so proud of you. Your journey has been beyond hard and yet you know you are needed. Do you get Community Assistance. I am a single mother with two sons and found the office of Assistance and it has changed my life so much. Italy is also very cheap and no crime and homes are 400.00 a month and people are delightful. Look into 90 days there and 90 days in Ireland. Great inspiration there. You can contact me for more info for help. Stay positive, things will change for the better. Xoxo

The wisdom of elders is seen as a treasure in every part of the world. This is what we lack in the West. We have lost the connection with the elders.

Wonderful! What a wise and happy lady! Exudes pure joy!
I aspire to grow old like her!
One in a million like Gladys..Let us encourage others too follow in her footsteps...I just feel like listening to her, golden wisdom.. Keep shining as always..Life is worth living, not winging about..
She is the Grandma of this century! What an amazing positive woman. I miss my amazing, strong Grandmas, who fixed their men at their place.
Yes😢
Thank you for your insightful stories, Gladys 😮
What a beautiful thing...how can we as a family..mske sure if something like this happens again, we can make sure people laugh with and not at...so beautiful.
What a beautiful soul, what a treasure she is if we really listen and act on what she is saying❤️ God bless Gladys🙏
She is so inspiring. At 73 she makes me feel like a kid. I distinctly remember in the 60s hearing that someday we will have video/picture phones.
Love this lady …. She inspirational to many Blessings. She’s so grand ❤
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us, Gladys. You are an inspiration to me at 57 when I really needed to hear this. I also love your name, that is my Granny's name too, and she was another amazing woman. Rock on, Gladys!!!
‘’But that plant got through to him ‘’ so inspiring Rangan …. Thank you for this podcast. Have a lovely weekend all☺️
That was cute when she said when her little grandkid touched her neck and she was "thrilled".
What amazing!! memory ,she is recounting stories when she was at first grade ❤
It’s amazing that she can recall her life from such a young age😮
I am 80 years old now and I can honestly say that the five Ls she mentioned are absolutely essential. Actually, in my retirement years now I am so much more able to pay attention to things of interest to me. I can listen to things for hours on end to learn more and more every day. I only listen or read things that I can learn by..once in a while I do solitaire or watch a program I love (NCIS), but for the most part I’m only geared toward substantive info..
A lesson to learn. She’s a very positive lady. Most people who help others- parents, teachers, nurses, doctors have a very positive outlook on life.
She reminds me of my wonderful grandma
Especially saying " you know" all the time.
So cute..
Reminds me of the old times..
Shes an amazing soul...
We are privileged to hear this message ❤ Thank you ma'am
This is such an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing her story.
I went home and we went to the cemetery. Ther was a shiny new black headstone with a suitcase engraved (white. So it stood out on the background). I had to go over and look. It was a lady who was over 100 yr old. (centenarian).
As I got closer, I read the writing above the engraved suitcase (literally, a huge suitcase with a handle) . It said,
“GO, GRANNY, GO”!!
Probably 30years later, I still remember that moment.
I wished I could have had a conversation with her. Mostly, I realized her life was fulfilled and well spent. How many of us can say that?
I just am so grateful I stumbled on this wonderful interview with this marvelous woman.
Please interview prof Margaret Clark, she lives in Birmingham uk and is still publishing research on education at the age is 98.
Oh my gosh I couldn’t help but cry at the end! It’s all about LOVE❣️❣️❣️❣️
Xoxo
I haven’t finished listening but would not want to cut any part of it. Saving as a treat for later in my day.
