Really appreciate the content! Here's another thought for a potential future experiment. You're currently routing the runners from cylinders 1 and 2 together, and then 3 + 4 together. What if you instead combined runners from cylinders 1 and 4 together and then 2 + 3 together, since their pistons coincide with top stroke? Might give a different exhaust note. Then record what that would sound like with and without x pipe. Hopefully you give this a shot. Huge fan!
The x pipe needs to be designed based on the firing order of an inline 4 cylinder engine 1-3-4-2. The two cylinders in the middle fire together against the outer cylinders. Meaning that the middle two cross into the outer two. Your design is blending the opposite firing cylinders into one before it even hits the cross section... which will make it sound like a single exhaust.
The x pipe just makes it sound more like a basic 4 cylinder. albeit it did sound smoother. But yea no x pipe sounded super interesting. would love to hear it in person
So, I remember asking in the last vid if you did left half/right half, or inners and outers. You first replied the former, then made another comment correcting yourself saying it was the latter... However, based on your diagram in this video, it would be left half/right half. This is the traditional pairing for making a UEL, and if you made one pair 50% to 2x as long as the other, then joined them up into a single (or did an x-pipe) you'd get a subie rumble. On the other hand, if you changed it to inners and outers pair, it'd sound even more different (like a vintage British twin or BMW R1200), have better scavenging than left/right pairs, and subsequently doing the UEL thing to it might even make it sound a bit like a GT350 or a mid-80s Honda v65 magna with a MAC or Kerker 4-into-1 header, which I have videos of if you want to see/hear.
I was incorrect in the pairing of the headers, they were paired 1-3, 2-4. So the pulses were not even, which was the main reason for the choppy sound. I actually just finished changing the pairing of the headers, I'm editing that video right now.
Try true dual UEL length headers, basically an UEL length header split in half with one tube larger than the other and then the same for the other 2 tubes
@@HatersGarageif you're going to make a uel header you May try a unique one, i've seen a lot of subaru style uel (1-2/3-4 1-3/2-4 2-4/3-1) all of then should sound like a subaru, but i never seen a 2-3 1-4 style, it should sound like 2 MT07 engines 😂
@@braziliansheetbox2497 I've had a lot of requests for headers, some crazier than others. Whichever I decide to go with it will be one-of-a-kind, that's for sure.
@@HatersGarageI’ve messed with unequal length headers and it made my ford sound like a boxer Subaru absolutely insane. I’m experimenting with a custom 4 to 4 header and 4 pipes all the way back. It’s got 4 1 3/4 pipes grouped together in twos routed like a dual exhaust about halfway back but I can’t even describe the sound it makes my crappy iPhone cant record it without brapping out lol
I honestly would love to have a full custom true dual exhaust on my 2015 lifted Scion xB. And I honestly see that make it sound more unique. Just two new magnaflow high-flow cat and two vibrant performance ultra quiet resonator. A full 2.5” exhaust. Now that I can see make ur more unique. More custom work but it be worth it.
That true dual sound GLORIOUS!🤩🤩 I really wanna do this on my 4 other cars which I have in storage, just different ways of doing it for each and everyone! Can you please try to create a true quad exhaust going in to 4 more with more length on the tubing for the next 4 making the total of 8? I think having the regular outlet close to the bank and 4 more further out will make the sound of this 4 cylinder sound like an 8 cylinder with additional spacing of the next 4 exhaust pulses😃 Wanna give it a go?
I have a 2014 Focus ST and I'm thinking I should throw an X pipe on it. Nothing I could find on RUclips about what that set up would sound like on my car so now I'm dead set on x pipe for my car.
Theres some options that i just thought of i wonder if it would have any effect. H pipe? True duals with cylinder split 1,2 then 3,4 Patern change 1,3 then 2,4
I’ve just watched your last vid and now this one, I wanna learn to weld to do this sort of stuff aha. Idk if you’ve done it but what about if you did 4 single pipes with 2 x pipes? So it would improve the flow and sound like the last vid? Thinking about it now I’m most likely wrong but hey ho
Are both of these just straight pipes? If so I think without the x pipe it would sound better with a couple mufflers or resonators to get rid of the rasp.
It does look like it runs a little better than dual? Like 0-60 looks like allmost 2 seconds faster with x-pipe? Would be cool to dyno this and really find out!
Hear me out, 4 pipes off the block, one per cylinder. Two pipes side exit one side, two pipes side exit the other side. True quad exhaust. How would it sound?
sounds more luxury sport tone, don't know what your looking for, maybe just cut mufflers and run x-pipe open exhaust. it will kill all the power under 3500 rpm
Yeah, definitely better without. I'll add, though that I'm the type who keeps driving his NA Subaru for another few years after the exhaust rots and falls off because it sounds good.
1-3-4-2. like almost every other i4 engine both outer and both inners move together, you cant really do a set of headers like you can with v8s in a 8 into 1 to get that smooth f1 like sound as there's basically only 2 ignite cycles. he essentially made what you're asking for already. since both 3-4 and 1-2 ignite at the same time at tdc. if hooking up 1-2 and 3-4 is the header you want, its just gonna further sound like a less thumpy harley/2 cylinder and have worse exhaust flow than 1-3|4-2 headers he made.
I think it sounded much more mean and aggressive without the x pipe. And he agrees with me, he thinks the x pipe was a failure 😢 . I like the sound of no exhaust but I straightpiped every single car I've ever had because i love that straight pipe. No muffler. No resonator. I would delete my cats, But that's not legal. If you didn't know that well now you do. Now don't try and delete your cats thinking your gonna get away with it, just wait until your in need of a smog check 😢😢 , and now how are you gonna slove your problem, and still be able to get your vehicle smog checked 😢😢😢
X-pipe does sound a lot smoother , but without it was much cooler
The true duals sounded awesome! Kinda like a small v8 or an inline twin motorcycle, great video!
Agreed

With the X-pipe it sounds like in Live For Speed when you make a custom engine sound and turn the roughness all the way to zero

Be neat to hear this on v6s
Do a true quad exhaust but with 2 coupe’s one for each side
ooooh, yeah better without the x pipe but i respect ur channel subbed cause this is gonna pop off
Personally I like the true duals over the x pipe sound

H pipe?
True duals with cylinder split 1,2 then 3,4
Patern change 1,3 then 2,4

1-4 and 2-3 is the better connection, equal timed pulse

Do individual exhausts from header back plzzzzzzzzz
You cant. Theres only 1 header.

Much better
Do a true dual by merging the outer two cylinders into one pipe, and the inner two into another.

It is definitely more efficient with the X-pipe. Personally I don't like the buzzy sound.
try a boom tube
when from a subaru to a k series
Sounds like a baby gen 4 NASCAR
all youve done here is re-discover the 4-2-1 manifold. the true dual sounds good though almost like an old alfa romeo or lancia rally car.
Sort of. It still a dual exhaust, it just sounds like a 4-2-1.
Make twinturbo with k&n air filter and straight pipe exhaust

Is that a song from Postal 2? 😅
Sounds like a k20 with the x pipe
can u get a v8 and put a shorty header on one side and a long tube on the other side
I think maybe I prefer the X-pipe of the three.... At least from the video. Excellent job making interesting content, BTW!!
The x pipe would sound like a v8 in qn engine that goes 11000 rpm
No X pipe sounds best!
