Spoiler for the end of God of War: Ragnarok Theory: I am predicting that the green scar..... is connected to the “higher plane of existence” that Athena “Ascended” to after her death in God of War III. A few bits of dialog keyed me into this train of thought. 1st: Odin questioned what sort of afterlife awaited him after his death and looking into the green scar gave him some insight. I believe he was looking into the realm of “higher existence” that Athena occupies (possibly) to this day. (She was defiantly present to pull the sword from Kratos at the end GoW3) 2rd. Odin in the game is the closest match to a God of wisdom much like Athena. I believe had Odin stayed on a virtuous path he would have “Ascended” beyond the green scar to the “higher plan of existence” naturally. However, unlike Athena when Odin was confronted with a glimpse of the realm beyond, he became obsessive and destructive. Odin is an example of the kind of damage a wise person can do with a lack of empathy. As he stated in the fight when Atreus (Loki) destroyed the mask, “Everything I worked for. Everything I killed for….. what was it all for” he justified all the evil acts and manipulation of others as the cost of seeking “truth and knowledge”. Ultimately, (if the theory that Athena ascended because she sacrificed herself for the greater good” this evil obsession would have possibly led to his rejection from “higher existence” (aka the loss of an eye). Minor other points: As it stands there is a plot hole on why the Mask reacted to Garm in Helheim even though no mask fragment was present. If the prediction is that the Green Scar is a tear in existence to a “Higher Plane” my prediction is that Garm was the one who made the tear. Garm’s ability to traverse and tear holes win the realms is second to none. Who knows the scars he ripped open in the world tree before being chained in Helheim. It may even be possible that Gram’s soul may have unintentionally crossed over to the “high existence” leaving his soulless body behind. Mask could be reacting to any number of Gram’s connections to “higher existence”. (Not to mention the game points out the difference between primordial beings and gods much as the original trilogy did) Both Athena and Odin wanted Knowledge in order to rule over the land. Odin lied to himself thinking he could make the 9 realms a better place with what lies beyond the tear and Athena in her “ascended state” stated, “mankind was ready to hear her message and mankind would not know what to do with it (hope)”. In the end, both seemed to have delusions that they were the fittest to rule over all.
Odin may be the chief of the Aesir, ever questing for knowledge... I like how Santa Monica explored just how high a body count, and how low a person's sanity, could climb in pursuit of knowledge. It was interesting to see Loki and Odin's "blood brothers" relationship from the myths played out as "fellow scholars, despite their differing intentions". In either case, I remember Odin forgave Loki all his mistakes and dangerous mischief because of the challenges he presented to the All Father, the new ways of thinking and clever plots Loki crafted to get the Aesir out of many dire straits. Asgard's Wall, "Freya's Unusual Wedding", and the creation of Draupnir and Gungnir (among other gifts) are but some of the myths where Loki gets ultimate credit for making sure the Aesir are secure in their rule... only Santa Monica rearranged them a little to showcase the Aesir's predilection for deceit, bloodshed, and belligerence. With Marvel's version of Loki being the one most people think of when they hear "trickster god" or "silver tongued liar", maybe "bringer of death", they forget that all of these titles can/have been applied to Odin mythology. I knew from when he walked into Kratos' house, he was looking for a fight, anticipating the destruction to come, keen to weave elaborate games of deception for players to unravel (or fall into). I knew the Noose with runes on it for EXACTLY what it was when Freya and Kratos found it; it is the reason why Odin is considered a DEATH god, among other kinds of god he is, since he sacrificed himself (to Yggdrasil and to himself) in pursuit of knowledge. This could be seen as either "creative and unusual punishment" or "desperation for knowledge that supersedes any living being"; Santa Monica brought BOTH aspects to their Odin's cruelty. I hate him, I admire him, I knew to NEVER trust him when I first saw him. What a marvelous villain!
I'm honestly disappointed they didn't give the opportunity to look in the rift, so much building up to it and the mask itself... it was deflating. What would have happened if Atreus wore the mask? Would he turn into a reality breaking slapstick caricature(like the Mask movie and comics)? What would have the rift revealed?
You don't always need to he spoon-fed every answer or not always at the moment/ 1 particular game, episode or film if it's a series. For the minute, use your imagination, that crack can be anything you want it to be at this point. Or it's possible/ even probable that this will be a story thread they pick back up in a future game to be resolved. Hell that's the kind of story thread you don't resolve until the very end of a franchise.
That is true, I am not certain if the mask of what lies within the rift was mentioned after Odin dies. Perhaps there will be explanation in a future game.
I think that was the whole point of the story. To forge your own path instead of relying on knowing what will happen. It's the same reason why faye hid the panel of them being victorious. We should not overlook storytelling over lore that just fills wiki articles
No the ending wasn't really him saying he's above consequences he was just saying he couldn't change that basically his madness is obsession with knowledge was something he could not control actually felt sorry for Odin
Fun fuct: everybody says odin lies every time he says something, this is proved the first time atreus goes to asgard when he goes to look in the gap in the lodge. He says he lost his eye because of that gap, but mimir says in the 2018 game that he offered him knowledge and that he needs to sacrafise his eye, but then he says he always knew that mimir druged him and didnt get any knowledge.
Wow bro. What an amazing, well versed video. You really summarized everything and made it understandable. Appreciate your hard work into this man thank you so much.
The scene where the soldier were returning to Asgard and Odin sent them back to battle showed how selfish and evil he is. He was literally denying them Valhalla!!!!

Mythology-wise, it’s a big challenge. Need to research about Ra though, and how powerful he is compared to the other two, but in the mythology, Zeus and Odin are equal in terms of power, with Zeus NARROWLY WINNING against Odin. GOW-wise, Zeus stomps Odin in the same high-diff battle. We haven’t seen Ra in the GOW games yet as of the moment.
he lied, mimir tells in the 2018 game that he gave odin a drug that made him alucinate so hard he riped off his own eye, and after he had imprisioned mimir he took one of mimir eyes as revenge for this. its a hint about odins true nature on this game while you almost believe in what he's saying
@@PedroDiogoAzarias yeah, and even in the myths something similar happened. he struck a deal w/ mimir because he wanted to drink from his well of knowledge ( something along those lines ) and mimir asked him for something equally as important, and odin without hesitation ripped his own eye out and gave it to him lol. i'm more inclined to believe mimir as santa monica does like to sorta twist and rewrite the events of the myths to fit their stories. not a bad thing, it's really sick!

Odin is exactly the god we needed after the Greek Saga. Zeus was awesome, but making a repeat character would only make a worse Zeus. Zeus is force of nature that is tremendous powerhouse of strength. Odin is a deceitful master tactician whos strength lays in knowledge and intelligence. A master manipulator who makes you and your friends doubt themselves and strike at the perfect timing. Odin fooled everyone in the room and instigated chaos from within without most people questioning it. The only person that noticed "Tyr" being weird was Brok. He lives by gut feeling without questioning it and that approach was the only approach immune to Odin's Deception. Brok was the only one who put a halt to Odin's nearly perfect plan, and its even more poetic that draupnier spear that he blessed was the thing to catch the mask. The only reason why his near perfect getaway fell apart was a dwarf he considered insignificant.
Atreus can actually bring that up to Mimir when travelling. Mimir mentions Odin will lie on principle just because he can get away with it, even if it seems like something not worth lying about.
I really liked how he was portrayed in the game. He was a manipulator through and through, even making me trust him a bit. When I first saw him I was like, “this is Odin?” I thought Odin was weak, which is exactly what he was going for.
@@zak1872 yeah another guy mentioned that in the last game mimir tells you a story about how odin lost his eye. I didnt notice right away cause of watching so many scenes but i realized that theres so many things he could lie about and not make it obvious, "if he tells you the snows white, he's lying!".
@@Tribrid-zv3nq traditionally, but this Mimir in the GoW universe mentions that he was originally a Fae, making heavy references that make it seem like he was Puck, Jester to Oberon and Titania, King and Queen of the Faeries. It's Celtic/Old English folklore.
I gotta say I love the Game, but Odin was not as Cunning and slick as I expected him to be. I expected him to keep it seven steps ahead of the Game so to speak.
Think of it like Odin being Batman and Zeus being Superman. Sure the latter's more powerful and has feats where he slams Gods into the Sun, but give Batman prep time? He'll take down your entire empire. Odin's a more insidious villain because he acted like Tyr perfectly and tricked everyone with his hero's journey. If Brokkr wasn't there, they would've done exactly what Odin wanted. Willingly. He almost tricked the Ghost of Sparta, the genocidal killer of gods, the last Greek God, into being a "sacrifice" for his knowledge. That's something Zeus could've never done because he was too overt with his manipulation. Remember, the best criminals in life are the ones who were never found out.
@@GothaBillsAndDeath not to mention he's been watching and learning of the team's plan the entire game. He disguised himself as a dwarf, a dark elf and always had his raven around to keep one step ahead of everyone.
Wait you say odin clawed his eye out in because of the well of knowledge but in the game dont they say he lost the eye when he tried to look into the rift? Or was that perhaps one of his lies?
At first I hated Odins character design. But after spending some time in the game, he grew on me. While I do enjoy this game, very much, I can't help feeling it could've been better. Just my opinion tho.
Just a theory: What if Fjörgyn died due to the same thing as Faye ( a sickness of sort ) and then giants didn’t want to help her that’s why Thors hatred for the Jotnar is so strong cuz he loved his mother?
Or she trying to stop odin madness and be killed by odin himself (like thor) and manipulate thor to hate other giant. But heyy it just a theory A GAME THEORY
Thor is forced to listen to Odin. Who Odin wants killed, Thor will kill. Who he wants alive, Baldur would find him. Tyr was the one who sought peace with the Jotnar, so Odin imprisoned him. Odin hates giants, and so does Thor.
I hated the plot twist reveal, it didn't make sense at all to me as Odin would also need to have ability to be in multiple places at the same time. While we saw Atreus in Asgard chilling with Odin, there was Tyr hanging out with like 3 other people in Sindri's house, it kinda ruined that for me.
The signs were there.... Tyr's early dialogue, the game mentions how comfortable he was in the broom closet, atreus walking with Odin while he's running "errands" to show you how quickly he can travel around the realm. The cutscene was a little sloppy tho
Are you sure it was Mimir's spiked well that made Odin lose his eye? Cause Odin said so himself that it was looking through the reality crack without the mask that took his eye, and he stopped Atreus from looking into the crack and showed his missing eye as a result?
Honestly I just wish we had gotten another game so we could have fleshed out the all father even more and thor as well, so in this game we could have taken on heimdoll and maybe hela as well in place of killing both thor and Odin, or they could have at least maybe made some dlc to confine their story so it was stretched out more, I really liked getting to know thor better and Odin and only wanted more of it, also better end fights for them as well, I get they didn’t have the budget or time for it in this game but again if they had made a third game they would have had the time and money to make more epic and separate end fights for the both of them, it’s just sad they felt they had to rush it all into one game instead of taking their time with it and making 2 banger games
so in the game is the spark of the world supposed to be gunungagap? also if the rift was made by the battle with ymir how is the rift in asgard since the corpse of ymir is supposed be what is used to make the other realms ??
Could Kratos defeat odin 1v1? I think not, however Kratos with the weapons of multiple God's pretty much single handedly defeat Zeus. Is Odin stronger than Zeus?
So many people say that the Greek gods are ways more powerful than the Norse but you have to look at their magic manipulation - Especially with Odin! P.s We definitely need the Egyptian Gods next. It's going to be wicked!
Didn't see the twist coming from Odin shit hit me like a ton of bricks My buddy showed me something interesting though when you have subtitles on and he talks very subtle and if you do notice you'll likely forget soon after
He might have been lying about the eye, but I think he wasn’t about looking into it without the mask. It might cost Atreus an eye or worse if he really did try to look into the tear.
Isn't this lovely One believing Odin story and one Believing Mimir's. I do believe Mimir more cause Odin could have just told the boy that so he won't sneak down here and possibly sneak the answers away from him, just in case the boy did not need the mask to look inside.
Kratos, Freya, and Loki triple-teaming Odin mirrors how he and his brothers did the same to Ymir.

Hell that's the kind of story thread you don't resolve until the very end of a franchise.
it could probably tie in to the next game though even if it doesn't it doesn't really matter.
@@Zer0Fox_gibbon you can lose the condescending tone, most likely this is something that won't even be brought up again.
Yes this is what I wanted
thank you for the bigger episode. I loved the details.
Wow bro. What an amazing, well versed video. You really summarized everything and made it understandable. Appreciate your hard work into this man thank you so much.
7:16 Odin doing that is right out of Zeus's playbook since he couldn't take rejection either.
Odin is such a complete and utter monster that I am glad we were able to take him down.
@@Tribrid-zv3nq indeed both Zeus and odin were monsters yes but like you said Odin was far worst then Zeus.
@@Tribrid-zv3nq ah gotcha and that's okay man and honestly your not exactly wrong about that.
The scene where the soldier were returning to Asgard and Odin sent them back to battle showed how selfish and evil he is. He was literally denying them Valhalla!!!!

Zeus from GoW 3 bodies Odin and Thor from GoW 5 at the same time
@@Tribrid-zv3nq Well yeah i see you totaly dont care hehe lolz... anyway why would you think that im looking for a argument ? Because i told the truth ? Are you saying that GOW 3 Zeus dosent bodie them both at the same time ? A stronger younger and better armed with better powers and weapons Kratos could not beat Zeus and had to travel back in time to kill him... and this weaker version of Kratos bodied both Odin and Thor sooo yeah....
@@Tribrid-zv3nq Indeed.
I wonder what my life would be like if I used everyone as a stepping stone, a means to an end.
I freaking love this channel 💯
Im confused. Didn't Odin say that he lost his eye because he tried to look through the tear?
He probably lied. They literally say in the game that Odin will do anything to get his way.
he lied, mimir tells in the 2018 game that he gave odin a drug that made him alucinate so hard he riped off his own eye, and after he had imprisioned mimir he took one of mimir eyes as revenge for this. its a hint about odins true nature on this game while you almost believe in what he's saying
@@xylynthian753 highly possible this man has been lying throughout the entire game.

When kratos first comes up in the video I jumped up and cheered
Zeus is stronger than Odin but Odin is much smarter
On the Valhalla DLC and now on more inspection on the Atreus and Thor mission Niflheim you see on the murals the story and its actually pretty much like myth, u see the cow, Odin and his brothers , the sword of Surtr. Pretty cool since you are the only one that has dived in the lore for this game .
Pandora's box corrupted The Greek Pantheons. Zeus got jealous and became an evil for it. Odin was evil, ruthless, manipulative without anything.
Now I can imagine if Odin ever met Zeus. I wonder how the conversation would go.

and also Odin besides having yours crows he also has his wolves and his horse Sleipnir just as Freyr has his boar Gullinbursti and Thor has his goats and There's a new information in the Valhalla dlc about Odin and his relationship with Valhalla and the Valkyrie Make an updated video about his story 🤔😁👍 like and Bye!
Love the new intro
What I don’t understand is how the Greek creation myth meshes with the Nordic creation myth in god of war. Are these different dimensions?
Hammers don't rip and tear. They crush and pulverize
Do the Story of Sindri next please
15:35 Unlike Baldur Odin would have deserved the sense depriving suffering that spell caused.
But it’s true what they say: “What you see isn’t always what you get”
The whole thing with the well got retconned apparently cause in ragnarok Odin apparently lost his eye from trying to look into the crack
Atreus can actually bring that up to Mimir when travelling. Mimir mentions Odin will lie on principle just because he can get away with it, even if it seems like something not worth lying about.
@@Prince__Teclis I dunno why he would prevent him from looking in the crack if it wasn't dangerous....unless he didn't want to risk it
@keybladegames_real Never said the crack wasn't dangerous. But it being dangerous doesn't mean it's why Odin lost an eye.
I think that mask and tear has something to do with whatever plain Athena is on now
Odin might be the best villain in this series surpassing Ares and even Zeus in villainy
Very good video! Well done!
Great video 📹
I really liked how he was portrayed in the game. He was a manipulator through and through, even making me trust him a bit. When I first saw him I was like, “this is Odin?” I thought Odin was weak, which is exactly what he was going for.
@@Tribrid-zv3nq He isn’t, but his knowledge in magic and warfare are still amazing
Heimdall next !
If it's a gateway to a higher power what if Santa Monica for shits and giggles said Odin was hearing the voice of the devs.
Odín told atreus he lost his eye when he was trying to look what was in the tear not because of the well.
You're forgetting the whole point of Odin being a manipulative liar willing to say and do anything to get his own way.
@@zak1872 yeah another guy mentioned that in the last game mimir tells you a story about how odin lost his eye. I didnt notice right away cause of watching so many scenes but i realized that theres so many things he could lie about and not make it obvious, "if he tells you the snows white, he's lying!".
Fantastic video
I really hope they add a new game mode plus I need to play the story another 3 times
Usually 3 months after release
Which Mythology should the next God of War take place after God of War Ragnarok for me Egyptian Mythology Japanese Mythology or Chinese Mythology
Celtic mythology which is where Mimir is from - creates a motivation for Kratos to leave the Norselands
Perfect character
It's funny because they made Odin more like Loki than even Loki
Which is accurate, since hermes was synchronized with odin instead of loki
@@Auricalios hmm?
I gotta say I love the Game, but Odin was not as Cunning and slick as I expected him to be. I expected him to keep it seven steps ahead of the Game so to speak.
Yeah, his character was interesting but i wish we would have seen more of his powers.
He reminds me of Dutch van der linde from RDR. He even believed his own lies.
Wait you say odin clawed his eye out in because of the well of knowledge but in the game dont they say he lost the eye when he tried to look into the rift? Or was that perhaps one of his lies?
Do sigrun the valkyrie queen next
It would have been cooler to have seen him devoured by Fenrir..
At first I hated Odins character design. But after spending some time in the game, he grew on me. While I do enjoy this game, very much, I can't help feeling it could've been better. Just my opinion tho.
GOW Ragnarok was great. Even though they’re a lot of plot holes,Atreaus/Loki stole the show.
Very interested in a history of tyr video and his times in other lands
Refresh my memory, what’s the song name for both intro and outro
Just a theory:
What if Fjörgyn died due to the same thing as Faye ( a sickness of sort ) and then giants didn’t want to help her that’s why Thors hatred for the Jotnar is so strong cuz he loved his mother?
Or she trying to stop odin madness and be killed by odin himself (like thor) and manipulate thor to hate other giant.
But heyy it just a theory
A GAME THEORY
Thor is forced to listen to Odin. Who Odin wants killed, Thor will kill. Who he wants alive, Baldur would find him. Tyr was the one who sought peace with the Jotnar, so Odin imprisoned him. Odin hates giants, and so does Thor.
@@rizqi5145 Doubt it. As we know, her death badly affected Odin. Remember, this was Odin before becoming purely obsessed with preventing Ragnarok.

History of Thor !!
Very limited material to go off of. But does anyone know the metal music bit in the beginning?
I feel that "higher plane" will appear again
Is your opening graphic's music from Metal Hellsinger?
I hated the plot twist reveal, it didn't make sense at all to me as Odin would also need to have ability to be in multiple places at the same time. While we saw Atreus in Asgard chilling with Odin, there was Tyr hanging out with like 3 other people in Sindri's house, it kinda ruined that for me.
The signs were there.... Tyr's early dialogue, the game mentions how comfortable he was in the broom closet, atreus walking with Odin while he's running "errands" to show you how quickly he can travel around the realm. The cutscene was a little sloppy tho
Anyone know the beginning intro music?
But what happened to him? Did his soul get erased? Or did he go to the higher plain of existence like Athena go?
I thought in Ragnarok Odin implied that he went blind in that eye by peering into the rift without the mask on.
he lied
alternate title- History Of Odin- The All Fucker of the nine realms
I truly hate what they did with sindri. I really didn’t like his ending story line.
Are you sure it was Mimir's spiked well that made Odin lose his eye? Cause Odin said so himself that it was looking through the reality crack without the mask that took his eye, and he stopped Atreus from looking into the crack and showed his missing eye as a result?
Yeah I’m confused by that too
Mimir comments about Odin's tale saying he's lying about that story after Atreus asks him about it.
Tyr and Heimdall never stated to be Odin's kids, in the game at least
I mean, Odin doesn't like talking about Tyr, because he thinks he betrayed him, and he actually liked Heimdall.
Damn, Odin in the games was much like Joseph Stalin
Could Kratos defeat odin 1v1? I think not, however Kratos with the weapons of multiple God's pretty much single handedly defeat Zeus. Is Odin stronger than Zeus?
This Odin really is evil. Like pure evil. Pure concentrated evil. Going crazy or not
So many people say that the Greek gods are ways more powerful than the Norse but you have to look at their magic manipulation - Especially with Odin!
P.s We definitely need the Egyptian Gods next. It's going to be wicked!
Didn't see the twist coming from Odin shit hit me like a ton of bricks
My buddy showed me something interesting though when you have subtitles on and he talks very subtle and if you do notice you'll likely forget soon after

Nah, Odin was lying about how he lost his eye. Atreus asks Mimir about this in the game.
