@@Rahul-mm2yu God of War removed the presence of Loki in order to tell their story of Kratos because he is the murderer of most Gods (Kratos' identity and role as a God). But in order for his story in the lands of Norse Mythos to stand authentic, they had to replace Loki's presence with Loki (BOI) and place him directly in the center of it all. It's a paradox where in order to remove the presence of Loki, you have to replace him with BOI. But to remove him, you'll also have to place him in the center of the entire story.

It took time, dedication, patience, honesty and pain but it is possible, as you so eloquently put, " It's never to late to reinvent the story". This comment section has reaffirmed my belief that not all of the internet is a giant cesspool but can actually have incredibly talented and well-meaning people congregate over the crazy dope stuff really talented people make.
This normally happens on people's channels solely focused on making good content, period. These are rare nowadays, and finding a new one is always a blessing.
In many ways, humans do not change even when they do; much of Kratos' failures and faults stem from the fact that he had *too much* of a heart, and was too open with his emotions. The "change" was about which type of emotions he expressed. In this way, he's exactly the same person he's always been, he just doesn't *appear* as aggressive.
To be fair he never intentionally hurt innocent for no reason. Yes the prequel games show him being a heartless bastard. However Faye gave him a second chance. A chance to be the true version of himself he was meant to be. Kratos doesn't give a fuck but he know now that just cause you can be cruel and intimidating doesn't mean you need to.... he learned to try to be more Empathetic. Despite the fact he's trained as a Spartan to be a ruthless warrior and he was. But he was also a kind and loving father to Caliope. He's not a cruel man but a man forced to cruelty to because the GODS show no mercy. He know what the Gods are capable of. And he fucking hates them. So he made it a point to NEVER be like the gods of his land or his new homeland.
When kratos got the blades of chaos again, and him accepting he was a monster and now he has to change is the definition of a redemption ark. Seeing a deplorable and vile man turn into a loving and caring father, not being able to find the right words to express his love was a unexpected but pleasant surprise. No story will ever rival the story of the god of war series in my opinion.
Honestly, it makes for a beautiful circle. Kratos was a loving and caring husband and father. To at least some extent, the pact with Ares was so he could get back home to see his family, yet it turned him into the monster that cost him everything. Kratos has now capitalized on his second chance
Kratos was never truly "vile" per say, except after being betrayed by basically *EVERYONE* after the events of God of War 2, and at the start of God of War 3, where he truly becomes a omen of destruction, solely focused on completely erasing the Greek pantheon from existence. When people say he was a prick in the older games, they forget that was never his true nature, he was influenced by many things that ultimately led him to kill all the gods of Olympus. We are talking about a man that lost all of his family members, except his father, which inadvertedly contributed to their deaths. That's insanely f*ck*d up.
@@ThePeoplesMoai he also back in the day killed innocents even he admitted it, so yea I would’ve called him a vile man while he suffered for it,it was because he was ruthless

He didn't sought out brutal, bloody murder 24/7. He only killed when necessary.

Who else secretly feels bad for Baldur? As inevitable as the battle was, Baldur was a victim in all of this. Odin used him, and Freya cursed him while trying to protect him. Really a sad story within the GOW universe
If Baldur had just left after his invulnerability was broken(and getting his ass kicked again) he probably would've gone back to Odin immediately, told him everything he knew, and gotten Thor and or a army of Aesir to back him up against Kratos and Atreus after taking some time to rest and heal from their big fight at the end.

You know, it's something strange when I never questioned where Loki was in this story. In this entire game, until I got to the end, I never had a thought of Loki. So somehow, the writers made everything else so attention grabbing, so thought provoking, Odins evil, Thors barbarism, Baldurs Rage, that you didn't need to know where Loki is in this story, or who he was. He was with us all along.
I assumed we'd meet him in a similar way to Freya, since he is a trickster and all it'd make sense if he was hiding somewhere outside Asgard. Honestly when I first played the game I thought Baldur was him before we found out his name.

Great Analysis. My favorite lesson from the games side quests was the one where you are helping a captain send his dead crew to the afterlife - Atreus thinks the man a failure and a loser; and Kratos says something to the effect that "Good leaders are allowed to fail - what makes them a good leader is whether or not they take responsibility."
wow dude, as an essayist I can deeply appreciate how much care you put into your work. The tying (haha) of the the theme and title to a consistent motif, your use of metaphor, variation in syntax, all on top of a genuinely interesting subject - pure, uncut dream fuel.
This was really well made, normally I'd get bored and leave. Though, as a person who's played every God of War game thus far and somewhat looking forward to Ragnarok, watching this reminded me of why I liked the series and how well-written God of War 4 was. Reminding me of the time I had played it and enjoyed it. I'd be tempted to play it on PS5 with the port you get for owning it on PS4 but, I have no luck finding a PS5 so far. I need to replay it some point soon, I played it to death on the PS4 at launch and beat it on the hardest difficulty, then was burned out and stopped, didn't finish the Valkyries, and this was also before they updated the game to include New Game+. I'm always rooting for Kratos in hopes that even if every attempt to break free from 'Fate', he always seems to be one step behind or fighting a battle that seems like he's won or triumphed, only to find out he's still connected to some form of Fate he can't even comprehend, he has to constantly look forward and use his, ironic powers of Hope - for something better, to power his way through. I hope Kratos at the end of it all when the series ends, gets a good ending for him. We can see he's trying hard to change and its a good start.
The original trilogy also has an excellent story that holds up. There's a beautiful tragedy with Kratos killing the thing he loves most, his wife and child, and then eventually being saved by a remembrance of his daughter (Pandora) leading him to become the better man we see in GoW 4.

The fact that the writers made these small changes which turned out to be significant and they thought about that in the way that they told the story is what made this game just so incredibly special It is by far hands down the best God of War game that was ever made.
This is one of the most well produced, best written, and most beautiful videos I've seen on youtube. It's humbling and inspiring. And after recently playing God of war myself this video hits HARD in the feels.
It makes me annoyed in hindsight of all the contrarians trying to shit on the games story by saying "well the old games had sad moments so this game isn't special" as if thats what makes a story and world great. people don't love this game because there are some emotional moments they love it for the Lore and how it connects mythology within the story instead of in spite of it like the classic games. It manages to tell the stories of the Norse myths while weaving it into its own and thats what makes it special
Yeah. This is honestly one of the best game series that has ever come out in terms of their story. The gameplay of the new one was god awful (pun intended) but the story was the thing that made me keep playing.

God of War removes Loki by putting him at the centre of it all.
You are actually the first person in this comment section to realize that paradox lol.
@@Manor001 can you please explain, I don't understand?
@@Rahul-mm2yu God of War removed the presence of Loki in order to tell their story of Kratos because he is the murderer of most Gods (Kratos' identity and role as a God). But in order for his story in the lands of Norse Mythos to stand authentic, they had to replace Loki's presence with Loki (BOI) and place him directly in the center of it all. It's a paradox where in order to remove the presence of Loki, you have to replace him with BOI. But to remove him, you'll also have to place him in the center of the entire story.

Hey! Another great story teller.
I'm a father of three....a single father of three with a high school education and held multiple jobs at one time just to raise them. I made a lot of mistakes (some that could have had me locked away for a long time) in life but somehow after time recovered from those mistakes as well as raised all three of my children the best I can. At many times they all exhibited most of the behaviors that set me back for many yrs. It took time, dedication, patience, honesty and pain but it is possible, as you so eloquently put, " It's never to late to reinvent the story". Despite our story is far from over two are on their way to medical school now and my middle child is being groomed for management for the tonight show in nyc...oh, and I'm now a grandfather. Don't get me wrong, they're still nutty like their old man...just way less nutty. I've been a gamer all my life (since Atari 2600) but as I've gotten older have been really picky about what games I'd invest my time in playing due to a busy life. My youngest (20 yr old) son recommended I play the new God of War....I'm so glad I did. The themes were so deep it had me in tears many times as did you're video. Thank you and bravo. I think I'll do for my son what he did for me and now recommend this video for him to watch. This was beautiful.

Wonderfully-worded sentiment, and I couldn't agree more.
Just an excellent essay. It feels good to watch something of this quality.
Kratos saying "It was needless and unkind." really show how he grew a bit of a heart.
Tbh he always had a heart, it just kept being destroyed
Exactly, now its a heart that hasnt been stomped on and broken....*Yet* or wont happen again, who knows
And way down in Midgard, some folk still do say/That the Spartan's heart grew three sizes that day.

We live in a crazy time period. That’s for sure.
"Who I was is not what you'll be" is very poignant. Love that line
It's only a matter of time. But for now, we have the best damn story told in the gaming industry right here...

Great Analysis. My favorite lesson from the games side quests was the one where you are helping a captain send his dead crew to the afterlife - Atreus thinks the man a failure and a loser; and Kratos says something to the effect that
"Good leaders are allowed to fail - what makes them a good leader is whether or not they take responsibility."
wow dude, as an essayist I can deeply appreciate how much care you put into your work.
Same here.
The original trilogy also has an excellent story that holds up. There's a beautiful tragedy with Kratos killing the thing he loves most, his wife and child, and then eventually being saved by a remembrance of his daughter (Pandora) leading him to become the better man we see in GoW 4.

I don’t know about ya’ll but the ending piece at 35:03 hit’s close to home for me and always makes me tear up for personal reasons. I also love this new reinvented Kratos and story line from GOW. This video is pure art.
I must say that this video has been exceptional to watch and rewatch. The deep dive you do is spectacular and now that GOW Ragnarok is out, I am extremely curious of you doing a video of this caliber on the sequel.
Is it okay to say I’m crying at the end of this video? It was just SO WELL MADE and brought lots of information to the table that I didn’t even know was there. This video makes me look forward to being a great father someday.
Me 2
David Owens crying from a RUclips video although well done, it’s a video breakdown about a game nothing serious about it lmao
@@Teeman6574 I'm a new father so it hit different keep living and you'll understand
David Owens I see maybe I’m just not mature enough yet to understand, good luck with fatherhood!!
@@Teeman6574 nah these fools just very feminine and emotional/ thin skinned
The fact that the writers made these small changes which turned out to be significant and they thought about that in the way that they told the story is what made this game just so incredibly special It is by far hands down the best God of War game that was ever made.
Game is garbage
Damn. Id never thought id see such professional editing on a video game video essasy
You should watch the one he made on ocarina of time. Its a masterpiece .
I've never played this game. It made me tear up when he said to his son "you must be better."
Generational trauma can always be stopped with us.
Loki's involvement with god of war's story has been pretty... low key...
Oh shit. That was good
Thanks man, that makes me laugh ♥️
I see what you did there, as did Neil Gaiman!
@Ahmed Al-thabeti two drums and a cymbal fall off a cliff
Eeeeeyyyyy
This is one of the most well produced, best written, and most beautiful videos I've seen on youtube. It's humbling and inspiring. And after recently playing God of war myself this video hits HARD in the feels.
And that ladies and gentlemen is why GOW is a masterpiece.
It manages to tell the stories of the Norse myths while weaving it into its own and thats what makes it special
this video has something in common to the game
Yeah. This is honestly one of the best game series that has ever come out in terms of their story. The gameplay of the new one was god awful (pun intended) but the story was the thing that made me keep playing.
The fact that you did it all in one game and not in separate games is actually amazing. I can only imagine how many tries this took
I have to say this is one of the most amazing breakdowns of a video game story or just a story in general. The music, the pacing, and the voice-over were just amazing. I played the game at least 3 times over and the story has never hit as hard as to how you were able to relay it. I definitely appreciate the story a whole lot more now!
Javed Sterritt - A Masterclass in RUclips. Worth all the wait. Worth all the hype. Worth every tear I just shed.
The DLC nobody asked for, but everyone needed.
I can only imagine how much effort went into this video but I want the team to know that your efforts are truly appreciated. I’ve spent no less than 2.5 hours rewatching and relistening to the incredible context and insight you’ve brought to an already great story. Thank you all. Keep going.
Liked this video from several accounts.
Wrote Santa Monica Studios an email, asked them to watch it and hire you afterwards.
Commented for the algorithm.
Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing more of your quality content!
Fans like you give creators like him amazing motivation. King 👑
You are a straight up good guy man. Have the respect of the internet upon you
14:48 Holy shit that "Father" gives me chills every single time.
I know right?! We didn’t even see Kratos’ glare directly but the sheer power of that head movement made me shrink in my seat and give a little “Oof” when I saw it 😳
@@tjmakes_ that glare was a good Father saying I can be every bad thing you want me to be but never not a Father
“Who I was, is not who you’ll be”……that’s what most fathers who were broken at one point on their lives want for their sons ❤️
