    My first impulse thought is to think that Tyr was originally helping Odin with the rift/mask and that’s why Tyr traveled from mythology to mythology. Each piece of the mask is from a different land and that’s why Tyr traveled. I don’t think the real Tyr knows that kratos knows about the mask so it would make sense that he doesn’t shed any light on it during the game. Once Tyr and Odin have a falling out, Tyr scatters the mask throughout the 9 realms. This would explain why the mask pieces with different languages are all found in the 9 realms.

    • @Writing_Gamer_513
      @Writing_Gamer_513 Год назад +38

      I also think it’s implied by the context of the game that it’s mostly true to historical mythology, Proto-Indo-European Mythology had a head deity named Dyḗws Ph₂tḗr, which is where the gods Zeus Patēr, Jupiter, and our man of the hour Týr, names come from. Odin was a different cultures god who overthrew tyr and probably what happened in GoW.

    In Greek mythology there exist primordial, corporeal entities that are innate in the foundations of the universe. In Greek Mythology you had Chaos, Tartarus, Eros and Gaia. Eros was in essence a form of corruption, the basis of emotion and feeling which was able to consume gods and mortals alike. In the first 3 games Zeus is terrified as he's been consumed by a segment of this in what was released from Pandora's box in Fear. Alternatively, Kratos is consumed by Hope and this Hope is what enables him to bring down the pantheon; eventually stabbing himself with the Blade of Olympus to release it back into the world. Perhaps the higher plane focuses on the distribution of these primordial entities and charges each specific pantheon with the monitoring and function of these entities where the people and environmental interpretation of these entities alters the roles and general powers of the gods and pantheon involved in them.

      Given that not alot of books do not survive the passage of time, and that some of out only examples diverge. We can quite safely extrapolate that nurse mythology was not as solid as we would want it be. That fact can be reinforced when you think how that mythology handles some situations like battles, where you're given so little info as to be forced into imagining the rest.

    Perhaps the higher plane could actually be a reference to the Gnostic Pleroma especially since Gnosticism has a lotta ties to various other mythologies, especially Greek mythology. So it would make sense that perhaps the final pantheon Kratos will hv to take down, will be the Gnostic pantheon of the 7 Archons, and the Gnostic malevolent creator deity, the Demiurge, serving as the final boss.

Odin wanted to know what happens when Gods die, where do they go? The Mask held answers and a Rift that could show them everything. Athena ascended to a form higher than the Olympian Gods by self sacrifice. This could be the equivalent of a god getting the attention of the Big G and him accepting them into the Higher Order of existence, essentially being an Angel. I also think Athena is one of those few that had ascended to this new form of existence, hence why those supposed visions Kratos had of her in the previous GoW, was in fact actually her, astral projecting herself to Kratos. I mean the sheen of green on her form is just like the rift, as is the sound.

    Maybe The Higher Plane could be a sort of "heaven' or greater existence for worthy enough gods. As we're aware Athena was a great god in life (in comparison to the rest of Olympus). It was only after her death that she was finally corrupted by the Madness of the Titans or whatever it was called and i actually think the astral form of Athena was just the piece of her corrupted by the evils in Pandora's Box that was left over when she "ascended" as im gonna put it. And i think its the same case for Zeus just in a more extreme manner since he was fully corrupted and he wasn't even a good person/god before he was corrupted he wasnt worthy enough to ascend and even if he was his entire soul was corrupted so he couldnt and there was nothing left behind like in Athena's case. And that also goes for the rest of the gods. Also it seems like a big theory is that Thor also ascended when he died bc he turned into particles much like Athena and i kinda think it could be true but im not really sure but if it is: i think he would of been able to ascend bc even though he did a lot of really bad things it was all under Odin's command and Thor did it to please his father, though he did take joy in it so i dont really know. He also did try to be a good dad in some manner for Thrud at least. So except for taking joy in killing the giants it seems like he was an okay person/god at the least (correct me if im worng) but the way he died could of also just been effects to make it more dramatic but idk. Thats just my theory and opinion tho and i really hope that all made sense.

    I just want to spitball some ideas and theories! But I think the mask has to deal more with the giants and gods and the way things were an age before. Kinda like why gods exists and exist in each land and culture but they all can die. Maybe it’s a similar common creation of gods. Like once upon a time all the races were one. They exist perfect and in harmony. They had the elemental power of the gods, the spiritual power of the giants, and the mass of titans. But then something happen? The realm divide and so too did this perfect being? Creating the different races. While each culture has a different Heaven, maybe that’s not true heaven or nirvana. The higher realm is. The heavens we see are more the creation of the gods. It kinda feeds into the idea that gods are not actual Gods, but beings that pretend to be or are believed to be. Part of their power is the belief of others and their selves. They are kinda like a symbiotic parasite. But they also formed each specific afterlife as a way to harness and control the souls and fates of mankind. The higher realm is the true heaven. It’s where the source of soul and divinity and power exists. This kinda has no support in canon or any in game info. It comes from more commonalities in actual mythologies. There is always an ancestral race that is considered better or perfect. In the Greeks you can find it in the stories of creation of soulmate and mankind and why there are opposite sexes. In the Hindu pantheon their most powerful gods seem to have no specific gender but can be both at once or switch back and forth. In ancient Hebrew myths angels do not have one sex but both, or not at all. But what the ingame lore shows, is that all gods and cultures are connected and similar in someway. The mask is indicative of that, so is Tyr and Kratos being able to go to different realms and pantheons. The commonality maybe that their source of power and reason for existence is in part from that higher realm.

    Actually now that you mentioned it there's actually one religion that connects everything, well technically two. Out of the Mesopotamian which is Babylon or Zoroastrianism, I believe after those two it branched off into other religions if they Incorporated the "Tower of Babel". Maybe the Tower of Babel is where are the religion in the universe branched off from with the tower holding everything together. You know like Stephen King's "The Dark Tower".

    • @crystalking784
      @crystalking784 Год назад +1

      Hell even better, maybe the higher plane of existence is actually the world of Lovecraft. That may be one of the religion maybe Greece (when he opened the box) probably punched a hole into the void and when she "ascended" her soul might have actually fell into the void and met the old ones (and because it's Lovecraft's) maybe seeing the sight of one of the old ones caused her to go insane which is why she turned her evil; hell she might have looked at the "Yellow Sign" and succumb to Hastur becoming one of his servants without her realizing.
      It can also both explain and redeem "Odin", for when we meet him he looked frail, like "really" frail compared to the compared to Zeus, I mean Zeus at least looked apart while he by the stories we gathered became paranoid as well as an alcoholic with a nasty temper. He might have probably been great back then but when he stared into the Abyss he went insane. Hell maybe when he lost his eye it wasn't because he was trading it for knowledge but because he was trying to escape from the Yellow sign of Hastur or trying to unsee what he saw in the abyss. And it was after that moment that he became both damage and paranoid. And maybe the after a couple years he finally succumbed but less of a servant of Hastur and more of him becoming obsessed with it. that maybe what he saw he just couldn't escape no matter how hard he tried, and finally he finally succumbed and begin looking for a way to access the abyss.

    My thought is that if the rift is linked to the higher plane; when did it occur? I wondered if it suddenly appeared one day in the Norse realm.. but around the same time as Athena came back in spectral form? Cause Mirmir states he has been studying it for years and Mirmir had heard stories of young Kratos way before he came to the Norse lands.

And in that theory Hrodvitnir with a higher power called Demiurge's meddling from that emerald plane turned him into Garm to use him as a tool to do Chaotic stuffs then Norse gods or whoever chained him.
    Fenrir in other hand is just a name Atreus given to their normal non rift opener wolf. So basically, Fenrir's stuffs already been done even before he became by the name Fenrir.

    Here's my hot take on the mask and the rift.
    I think it might be connected to the Cthulhu Mythos...
    I know it's kind of a big leap from the traditional myths, but think about. The rift leads to a place above the gods, and is beyond the understanding of Atreus and Odin, except without the mask that is from the rift. And both the rift, and the light that glows from the mask are green, and green is usually associated with the Cthulhu mythos.
    That's my theory. I'm sure alot of you guys can prove me wrong, but you gotta admit... You would LOVE to see a fight between Kratos and Cthulhu.

    Santa Monica Studios left themselves a good leaving off point to write another great narrative for the next game. It now depends on where they go next.
    Egypt is a big one I think all fans are looking towards, and they could have Seth killing Osiris and him trying rule multiple dimensions, then Kratos, and/or Atreus helping Horus overthrow Seth. They can have Freya too if they have to rescue Atreus and Horus first. We also can't forget about Sindri as he could be the one to break the dimensional barrier after being promised some soft of afterlife for Brok.
    Other pantheons they can decide to explore are the Sumerian or the Aztec/Mayan, or even a war between the Japanese pantheon and the Japanese Bhuddist pantheon.

    • @Bluesit32
      @Bluesit32 Год назад +3

      The idea with Sindri might work. Helheim lacks any sort of god (for the moment), so searching for Brok's soul would be fruitless. But other pantheons have very dedicated gods of the dead and could not only promise Sindri help, but could even show him Brok's soul, just refusing to let him go until Sindri fulfills his part of the bargain.

    The original plan for gow3 was for Zues to die in the opening act leading to a war with the Egyptian and Norse Gods fighting for supremecy and Kratos was going to join up with his Egyptian and Norse counterparts to stop them all and in the end they would become the three wise men and would go to witness the birth of a new religion before Kratos would then melt down his blades and reforge them as a scythe and he would become death. With death also being one of the four horsemen, this could also imply that the other 2 war gods are 2 of the other horsemen with christ eventually becoming the fourth, which is one variation of the horsemen with the four being christ, war, death, and famine/pestilence, the latter being one horsemen instead of two. Unfortunately this idea was scrapped by higher powers in the gaming world but maybe now that they've expanded the world to include other mythos with the introduction of the Norse saga, they maybe going with the same idea but in a larger, more round about way. Therefore I believe the higher plane and the rift to be connected to the Christian god and heaven, and seeing as all mythologies start in the void, this is plausible, which is why Kratos' Blades and surtr himself had the same primordial flame within them. This further connects the idea they all came from the same place, but instead of it being just a void, it could be heaven and The God. It makes sense in my opinion. I also think the world tree could be a great way of uniting the world together, with the branch that supports Midgard expanding to the rest of the world and supports them, starting at Greece with the branch wrapping around and replacing the world pillar and Atlas. The underworld of Greece could be split into 3 to join with the three after lifes of Norse mythology, with the Asgard branch connecting the Asgard part of Valhalla to the Elysian Fields, the Vanaheim branch could connect Folkvanger to Elysium and the Helheim branch connecting Tartarus, which begins the forming of the hell we know, the heaven for the good (Folkvanger and Elysium) and the heaven of sacrificial heroes (Valhalla and the Elysian Fields) this could then continue on to other mythos, linking the world to the other mythologies and the three after lifes connecting to their relevant after lifes of the other mythos. Finally it could also go on past the birth of Christ with kratos and the remaining good gods from the other mythologies becoming protectors of mankind and could go through the mediaeval dark ages through to today and into the future, though i really think that would be taking it too far. Maybe one last one set at the end of the dark ages where the gods returnn at The God's request to end the dark ages by destroying a being of evil that os perverting the Christian order to suppress us and they need to be freed. This evil could be our first look at a demon of hell working for the Devil. Anyway that's my huge theory rant lol😂

    It's sort of peculiar that what we know of from the GoW comic is that at least Athena and Thoth are in the Higher Plane.
    Both being their respective pantheons' God of Wisdom (among other things, of course, but that's their main title).
    I suppose it requires greater knowledge and "divine wisdom", let's say, to be able to enter?
    Don't think sacrificing yourself for the greater good would cut it.

    Theirs some evidence that Heracles, yes that one from God of War 3, was actually a neolithic deity. One so ancient that only the much latter references of much later society would survive. So maybe a Pantheon of god so ancient that they were gone before even the most ancient of current deity's arrived on t he scene. granted these would be insanely hard to write as by design their so old that in our world not much more then speculation survives of their existence.

    Should also note that every religion and mythology has different ideas of what constitutes as a god. To the Greeks, the Theoi were a race of deathless beings that were all powerful and were directly responsible for the creation of humanity and civilization. To the Norse, the Aesir were a tribe of beings that resided in Asgard, and many of whom involved themselves in the inner workings of the universe. While the GoW franchise takes a very Ovidic stance on the gods, that being it portrays the gods as flawed human-like beings, It does seem to now be making more of an effort to fully research the mythologies in question. This leads me to believe that the mask will likely tie into the Egyptian series, as that cosmology believes that there are beings that the gods exclusively worship, as their religion is tied to their theocratic hierarchy.

    If this higher realm is some form of heaven, does that mean that the supposed figment of Kratos imagination of seeing Athena, back in the previous GoW, was in fact actually Athena in her ascended non-corporal form contacting Kratos from the plane of existence? It would make some sense, since the rift was there in the Norse realm for some time. Who knows, she could be one of few deities to ascend to this level.
