  • Hey guys!
Welcome to another God Of War video!
In todays 'History of' Instalment, I wanted to continue with our coverage of the norse pantheon og gods, and discuss a pivotal character to the 2018 instalment, the former valkyrie queen and ex wife of Odin, the Vanaheim goddess Freya!
To really talk about Freyas origins, we must first dive back In time to a place before the events of the 2018 game and the Aesir Vanir war.
As It helps shine a light on the character and really, It shows alot of reasoning as to why she Is the way she Is, and why she Is so incredibly protective of her son, Baldur
I cant lie this was a very hard episode to make, not because of its length but the tragedy of Freyas kind hearted character Is so painful to watch, we arent given full context as to what happened to Freya prior to the events of the 2018 game, so I hope this shines a light on a character that has honestly had It really really rough.
With that said, I do hope you enjoy this instalment as their are plenty more episodes on the horizon and Im extremely excited to see what the future brings!
Please dont forget to give this video a thumbs up!
And If you love what we do here dont forget to subscribe and tick that bell!
As theirs plenty more content on the way!

I really feel like she'll end up being manipulated character and Odin takes advantage of her grief to try and hurt Atreus but she'll eventually turn on him because even if Kratos killed her son she would never wish that on anyone else and at the end of the day Atreus, using his Loki silver tongue, could convince her that Odin and the Aesir are their shared enemies.

I Don't think Athena was evil and manipulative she was pragmatic and manipulative. She realized that kratos was a mad dog. she tried to manipulate him for the good of mankind. But she couldn't prevent him from wiping out the world through deicide/patricide. In God of War 3 kratos went from tragic antihero to being vindictive anti-villain with redeeming qualities.

Like everyone on the God of War franchise there's tragedies that forms every character and Freya is one of them that suffers the most, she lost her people, her home, her family, and her identity that even if she thinks she's doing the right thing and has good motivations, but she's blinded by her own actions that bring horrible consequences that she can't see that her Son would never forget her and seeing Baldur's death is something that Freya what's nothing more than to see the Ghost of Sparta suffer since she lost her pride and joy, whatever happens in Ragnarok with Freya is that is going to be emotional.

I feel Freya was once on Odin's side against Ragnarok. I say this for two reasons, the Valkyries were created specifically to gather warriors for Ragnarok which means they were created after Odin learnt of Ragnarok. Also, for Freya to be made the Queen of the Valkyries she must have been supportive of Odin against Ragnarok. This is supported again when she says to Atreus that she truly wishes she didn't believe in Ragnarok. Maybe when Odin became too obsessed and extreme she distanced herself from him and eventually lost her faith and love for him.

I understand the lore/history and what the GOW series is doing story-wise and all -- but man, I wish someone halfway intelligent would have sat down with Freya and actually talk with her about the situation. She needs to realize the entirety of what happened and the circumstances and events that led to the present. As a God, Freya should know better than anyone that universal laws of Life and Death/Creation and Destruction should not be tampered with. That cycle is necessary. Everyone and everything dies or ends at some point. That's 100% okay. Regardless of however she felt or how much she loved Balder, Balder will/would eventually die one day. As well she. However, by putting that enchantment/curse on Balder, she essentially tortured and tormented him for all of his days. Sure, he was immortal and invincible...however, in exchange, he could no longer feel, taste, or smell. That is no way to "live" if you could even call it that. I would say to Freya, that in her misguided attempt to protect the thing she loved by shielding him from all harm, she inadvertently killed him on that very day. Not only that, be she broke his mind and his soul in the process that would forever ruin him (in life, death, and the afterlife).
Kratos is FAR too forward, aggressive, and brutish to do this -- but perhaps Freya would have made it out somewhat okay if she was made to be aware of the fact that Balder was essentially already dead. Even if/when her enchantment was broken and he could feel again...Balder's mind and spirit were already so far twisted and broken that it wouldn't matter to him. He wouldn't be able to enjoy it. In fact, Balder would probably try to kill himself to be at peace. I do respect that Kratos gave Freya the chance/option to take responsibility for her actions by removing her enchantment and killing her son herself in a peaceful and non-painful way. She could have given her son respect by doing that. However, she declined that option every chance she got. And cowardly kept asking Baulder to kill her instead (ergo, permanently prolonging Balder's suffering).

    • @justarandompepe8961

i doubt anyone would have gotten through to her. her own son pleaded with her and begged her to remove it and told her what it was doing to her and how it was destroying him and she still didn't do it, she refused to see the truth. i think as long as he was alive she would always refuse to see it the truth.

I think the point this game is trying to make is that the connection between god and humanity is very relevant. Both the Titans and Olympians also had a prophecy of their end, and they refused to take responsibility for their mortality. Kratos had to go through pain and tremendous loss to even get a hint that his humanity is more important than his godliness.
Freyja, though maybe unintentional, made the same mistake of trying to defy her son's mortality, thus stripping him of his humanity.

i feel like Freya is linked to Circe from Odysseus.. because both lived with pigs and both are witches. and especially the Dialog that freya had when they ask her where the injured pig comes from. which might prove the point that she used dowels to turn people into pigs.

I hit the ancient histories like a ballistic missile and im satisfied with these findings. As much of a timeline as presents itself with the resources at hand. Neith, Khmet and egypt bow and arrow, but also responsible for spinning yarn to cloth.
Athena, patron of Athens, spear, shield, trade, spinning, war, wisdom, handicrafts and household works.
Has to shift to the frigid shit hole of the north where this all kicks off, gets told to get lost and becomes essentially the first witch. Ends up in Scotland and Ireland where she gets denoted Brigit. Unclear as to whether Brigit is a title or not, but its a very important character to the area. Also shows up in india as saraswati, Lakshmi and even though she looks scary i also posit Kali.
Last I'll enter is Mama Uqllu where she's said to be very independent, the goddess of fertility, farming and cloth.
I looked in china and japan, but i came up short.
Boss babe is all over the show. I would like to eventually see some effort done on the similarities of the so called """""""""""GODS""""""""""" if they must be called that. Thing that sticks out the most is its only the Judaic/Abrahamic cults who really really want you to ignore the other """""""""""""""GODS""""""""""""""""".
Otherwise besides that i also pick up on an interesting duality in characteristics that could only be described as schizophrenic. A better option is that the histories have been blended and historians are picking and choosing what they want for different situations. Athena/Lakshmi put a lot of work into making mans currency and teaching the value of discord.
Then i look around at the Jewish and Christian cults and all i see is plagiarism.
    Athena/Freyr/lakshmi/Brigit is best girl.

Freya being a Goddess should know what Kratos was all about. She should had took the liberty of controlling Baldur herself. Or respecting his wishes and let him become a mortal. Baldur came knocking on Kratos door lookin for a fight? Not the other way of around.....she needs to be hike up her big girl panties and own up to her responsibility for Baldur actions. Despite her fighting spirit? Kratos slayed a pantheon of God's......she keeps coming at Kratos? Kratos will have a definite reason for killing her soon enough. The blades of chaos quite thirsty for aseir blood.

They are totally different goddesses but they had the same abilities and powers and all that. So they're definitely a different goddess. Everybody needs start getting them right because that just makes you look stupid. Also quit comparing video games with God's. Because a lot of it is not true

Jormungandr killed Thor in true Norse mythology with "Eitr", his venom.
I have a very very strong feeling Kratos would kill Thor in the same way, since when we first meet Jormungandr in GoW4, there's a little tab that pops up at the top of the screen that says "Eitr Imbued". What other reason did the devs decide to put that there in the game other than implying that Kratos is the one that will kill Thor?
