Floor's Wiki Bio
Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied classical, musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?!
She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies.
From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish.
The Rock Academy in the Netherlands is an actual Bachelors degree, conservatory style, but focusing on the rock/pop industry

Henk poort has played the phantom of the opera in the Netherlands. And floor really admired him growing up. She also told this television programme she would join if Henk would. As soon as she heard he was also joining she asked him to sing this song with him. The lightning you hear in the song is actually real lightning.

Floor is amazing. I mean, there's really not much she can't do. She has a gorgeous voice. And she's a totally cool person too. If you guys check out Nightwish, she has so many incredibly good songs. I think in general the place to start is Ghost Love Score live at Wacken.

The US needs this kind of show. Also as fare as I know Phantom of the Opera isn't a opera, but a musical. At least if you ask the hardcore opera fans.

Maybe in the us where people are mostly ignorant of the music outside the us, but she is very appreciated in metal around the rest of the world. There are not many pop singers who can do what she can (if at all).
Floor isn't underrated in the US (and Canada). She's unknown. I'd be amazed if 5% of the population over here have heard of her.
@@granthill1760 also in Europe, if you're not into Metal you dont know her too, there are not very much people outside the Metal Szene who found her here at YT. In the Netherlands its changed a bit since the 2019 Beste Zangers TV Show. But i'm sure here in Germany 90% dont know her.
I agree with Grant here. Most people I've seen in the US immediately appreciate her talent and the band as a whole and their talents. It's just they are unknown - that's the perfect word for it here. For whatever asinine reason, they try to keep us in a sort of music bubble here in the States. The push certain things and the rest are left by the wayside. It's sad, really. So many bands put of Europe that are truly great and people just don't know about them here. That's one thing reactions are doing - opening people up to a lot of new stuff never on rotation over here. Floor and Nightwish are more than amazing.

Now, Nightwish is my favorite, so you know I had to come immediately! Floor Jansen (Yansen) is amazing! So much material and they always surprise you - never know what to expect. You should try Song Of Myself live from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vah-cken). One of my favorites. Shoemaker is another one, gives you some of Floor doing full blown opera, that's mind blowing and brings on the goosebumps every stinking time.

Oh! Yes, Floor is classicaly trained. Her range is CRAZY. And she is tall - 6'1"! The Valkyrie Queen.
According to Floor, she is 183cm tall (a sneeze over 6'). She does wear heels when performing, anywhere from 2-4". However, she has stated that since turning 40, the heels may disappear (or at least, based on her very recent performances in Finland, shrink somewhat).

I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja )
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish.
Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

From this same show.....she Opened the series ...singing the opera "Vilja Lied" for Henk. ( his mother used to sing it to him ) ....no one knew her ...she was dressed metal/goth ...and opening with a Austrian opera piece ..... you MUST watch it.
Floor is actually a vocal coach! In this performance, I hear more of her classical training w/ elements of opera... You should check out Nightwish's "Phantom", w/ their original vocalist Tarja Turunen (and Marko!!!). Tarja's pure operatic approach is a beautiful contrast, Marko's range will shock the bleep out of you, aaand also Nightwish (the build!!!!!). 😍🤘

Floor is the Valkyrie Goddess! Henk Poort was indeed the best Phantom according to Andrew LLoyd Webber. You should check out his performance of The Sound of Silence...it will blow you away. He performed this song for Floor.

Yup. She training in many genres. Henk is a famous Opera singer. Her mixed voice is so high. She bridges that gap to head voice like it's nothing.

OMG~YESSSS!!! Floor & Henk are amazing together. He played the Phantom for years. And yes, Floor is trained. She not only is a vocal coach, but the amazing (current) singer of Nightwish. They are unbelievable. She loves Henk and he changed it up a bit for Floor and made it a little more rock/growlish for her. Please keep going down the Floor/Nightwish rabbit hole. Floor not only sings Opera, she can rock out and throw a really deep growl in there also. This is one of the best performances in history. Thank you. You guys are amazing.
I think you guys missed the big point of this performance, allthough Floor is doing here an amazing job, we all knew she could do this, as she is a marvelous singer. The point here is the suprise that Henk Poort did his voice with the grunching "disturbed " sound which we all knew from the cover song "sound of silence"

Floor is with Nightwish now. That opens the door for a lot of reviews. But yes she is a trained opera singer. She is probably the most complete singer in music. Yes she is tall. But she can hit every note no matter what kinda song and its amazing. Then add in nightwish type of rock and your in for a journey. But if i had to pick a handful of singers in the world of all genres. She would be top 3 if not 1.
Floor..Beyond Beautiful & Powerful Voice!
Floor is around 6' 2"...others have already said it but she is a classically trained singer. I've seen Nightwish in person and she just dominates the stage with her presence. Henk learned how to do a Metal growl just for Floor.
Now shes 6-2? Shes 6 ft. or 1.83 meters.

What's nuts is this isn't even the best duet from this show. Henk Poort chose Emma Heesters to sing with and their Vivo Por Lei is ALSO the best version of THAT song.

There's a back story here guys. Henk played the phantom in the Netherlands. Chris Weber said he was the best phantom out all of them... Floor does have classical training btw. Floor first herd Henk, when she was very young. This was her "crush" growing up. For the record Floor is a little over 6ft tall. This was her "dream come true", with her being able to do this with him......Great reaction guys!!!!!!!

I hate to sound like a critic but the fact that you really couldn't see the singer singing and we could see you guys a lot more kind of defeats the purpose of watching, I like you guys I've seen you guys do other reactions but this is the first time I've seen this and I don't know what anyone else has said about it but maybe I'm an old man but it wasn't working for me
Floor Jansen is a soprano. She was sixteen when she joined Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997. Three years later the band released its first album, Prison of Desire. She co-wrote the band's words and music with band member Mark Jansen (no relation) until he left in 2002, after which she was the band's sole composer. Before becoming a full-time musician, she worked as a singing teacher.
On September 18 2016, it was announced, that Jansen and her husband Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer of Sabaton, were expecting their first child. On March 15 2017, Jansen announced via Instagram that she had given birth to a girl named Freja.
On October 26 2022, Floor Jansen announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and went to undergo surgery for it the following day. Two days following the announcement, Floor Jansen confirmed that the surgery went well.

female singer of our time. Yes Floor is unknown in USA. I think that
USA is a place where they don´t make much new in music industry
today. I guess the reason is, that in the USA you like it "home woven".
But in the way it is done, there is not much room for progress in the USA.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Haha Asia. Normally they say they have been "classically" trained which means they can sing opera. I'm not sure that Floor has ever been in an opera. On this show she did sing Vilja Lied in German for Henk which was rather fantastic though her cover of Shallow showed me what a master of her instrument she really is. No need for auto-tune there.
It should be pointed out that even though it has " Oprea" in the name, it's not an opera but rather, a musical.

Yeah I didn’t like it either. Especially since I’ve never seen this performance. Incomplete reaction if you can’t see what they are reacting to in the first place.
Opera is done in a special building with no amplification (none needed because the building is acoustically designed for it). Floor Jansen and Henk Poort are both classically trained (including operatic training). They are using parts of their classical training here. Floor is also metal trained. She helped Henk Poort in that fashion. Henk played the Phantom in the Netherlands stage performances of Phantom of the Opera. Phantom of the Opera is not an opera, it's a musical about an opera singer.

I WISH you could hear SARAH BRIGHTMAN and MICHAEL CRAWFORD sing this. They were the original Christine and Phantom. SARAH BRIGHTMAN actually sang that last note, much higher than Floor did here. Did you ever SEE the Stage Show OR the MOVIE VERSION, with Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler, and Minnie Driver from 2004. It's the movie version of the stage show with the same music, etc by Andrew Lloyd Weber, good to watch (it's beautiful and so are the costumes) if you were never able to see it live on stage. I saw it on stage 3 times, and the movie many times and have the DVD of it too,

For reference, Floor's 6ft. She's a tall bird. But her hubby, Hammerfall's drummer, is 6'3".
Floor is Classically trained, and chose not to pursue Opera. Henk is also Classically trained and was the "Phantom" for years playing in the Netherlands. Also, check out Nightwish's version of the Phantom, It is with the original Nightwish singer. There have been three Queens of Nightwish; Tarja, Annette, and Floor who is the current singer. Ok, so this is a Dutch show called “Beste Zangers”, which means Best singers or Dear singers. Every season shows 7 artists from completely different backgrounds; singers who were big in the 80’s, very young singers who are doing covers on RUclips, and everything in between. They all have different genres: Pop, rock, jazz, classical, hip hop, you name it. Every artist gets one episode where the other artist from their season sing one of this artist’s songs, one of this artists favourite songs, or something from their genre. That creates all sorts of wonderful performances. In the last episode, several singers team up for duets, such as this one. Check more out of this show!
While I like Floor, she does not do this song as well as does Tarja. For me, what really takes away from this rendition is, Floor and Henk confuse who should be singing what during the song. Floor (Christine) sang some passages that should have been sung by Henk(Phantom) and visa versa. To me, this detracted from the performance. In addition, I didn't care much for Henk trying to put some metal growel in his voice. It is clearly not his Genre and it just didn't sound right to me?? Just my thoughts.

Actually, she does not perform opera professionally (with a few exceptions), she is first and foremost a heavy metal singer, according to many people she is one of the best female singers in the world in this genre of music. For example, James Hetfield from Metallica expressed his admiration for her.
It's just a shame that the two of you left the Nightwish journey here, and that she apparently didn't interest you all that much.
And that in another her song (Storytime) you described her singing as "winded", which was not true at all because it was an artistic intention.

Although we in the Nightwish Army has done alot of work trying to get her name out there,i agree with Asia. For her second to none talents,she sure feels underrated and under appreciated by many. Seems a few other bands in somewhat the same genres as Nightwish loves to bash her even. I have a feeling that if she was a male,everyone would be worshipping her as the best versatile vocalist out there! Even watching channels like Mojo here on YT rating female fronted band vocalists has me embarrased,as they have Floor way way down on the list,i believe in one i even saw her as a "honorable mention". I mean come on now,even if you are not a fan of Nightwish`s or her earlier bands music,you got to put all that aside and agree on pure facts. Floor Jansen is 185 cm tall, which is like 6ft1. Henk Poort is one of her biggest idols, she accepted her invitation to this show because he was gonna be in it, so that's probably more than acting. She's a little smitten, taller than him or not.
Plz listen to Tarja Turunens version of thos, the original singer of Nightwish, Floor is great but Tarja has a voice more suited for opera, deeper. They also have a duetto together 🙂

Floor's last name is pronounced Yansen or Yahnsen either one. Both of them are opera trained, Henk much more than Floor. Your video screen is almost invisible.
