Yes Henk did "growl" as an homage to Floor and to Nightwish. When Floor asked him to do this duet he agreed only if he could perform it on stage with Nightwish when the play in Amsterdam! Over the course of this series, I think Henk ended up being just as much of a fan of Floor's as she already was of him! As for that last D6 note held for 8 seconds....truly stunning!

Seeing/hearing this LIVE when Nightwish performed in the Netherlands was. just. friggin'.... *AMAZING* I was crying at the end of it, just no words for it 💜🖤
This actually was the final episode (not number 4) of the season, where all singers sing duets with each other. Floor wanted to do this one with Henk, as he is her idol and was the original phantom in the musical here in the Netherlands back in the 90's! This was the ultimate climax of the season, loved it so much!
Hank Poort, was a great inspiration for Floor, when she was young. She said, that he was one of the reasons, she began singing. It was wish from her heart to sing the Phantom with him, since Hank sang the Phantom in de original musical, in Netherlenads. In order to honor Floor they used the rocked up version and thats the reason he got rougher in the second part. Its such an outstanding performance of both. Love it
Henk is an opera/operetta/musical theater singer/performer. He has only done the vocal distortion twice. In this and in the episode honoring Floor when he did The Sound of Silence(which he killed and she fan girled during and after) you should totally check it out
Henk Poort was the og Phantom in the Netherlands and Floor used to have a huge crush on him :) you should def check out The sound of silence by Henk from Beste Zangers!
Except for the 2 great singers, what makes this duet amazing to watch over and over for me is the way Henk and Floor totally feel the song and their roles and they way the act off eachother.
From what I have heard, you were spot on guessing that he did that as an homage to Floor. However, this was the last episode (duet episode) and he had done it once before when singing sound of silence for Floor when it was her episode to be in the spotlight.
This was the Phantom of the Opera, Nightwish version. Floor never performed it with them as Tuomas said he'd never play it again since Tarja left the band. But i think Floor performed it on another occasion some time with Marko.
Hi Sam, Floor was a fan to Henk Poort, but he didn‘t know her before the show. When he explored Floors songs and singing capabilities, he wondered if he could try the Duett. He proved his growel for the first time episodes before that. He did this second time with Floor. And after this performance, which is the one I love most of all Phantom of the Opera I know, they decided to go on stage together. So he joins Floors concerts with this song and did some other events together with her and will do something together with Nightwish. He seems do be a little fanboy to Floor .. and they both together are the highlight of the cream of all creams. Such a power, such a musicality and vocal agility, so much understanding each other’s part and complimenting it together. I‘m a big fan to both!
I've seen this song probably over a 100 times. I still get a Floorgasm at that beautiful ending. Also, I love the look on Rolf's face. He looks like he's planning to just lay down and worhship the Valkyrie Queen.
Out of all the men who’ve played the Phantom over the years, Andrew has stated that Henk was his favorite rendition (if I remember correctly he was the Phantom in the Dutch version for 5’ish years). I love how fan girlie Floor was, while still putting on an amazing performance. He only agreed to do the duet if he got to sing this with Floor the next time Nightwish is in the area.
No, Floor did not. Henk practiced the distortion for two hours with his own voice teacher. Henk himself told that during an interview on Dutch television. Floor and Henk didn't meet until they got on the plane to Ibiza for the shows recordings. At that time all singers already had practised their songs at home and also the singers do not know beforehand what the other singers are going to sing for them in the show.
If you're going to have someone sing the Phantom's part, there's no one you'd want more than the guy Andrew Lloyd Webber said was his favourite in the role. Before Beste Zangers, however, I was only familiar with Henk from his performance as Jean Valjean in the Dutch production of Les Miserables.
Poort has the same sounding double O as in Floor. If you haven't done Henk Poort's version of Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence yet, then that has to be put on your list! My fav version of the song. Henk is a classical singer, so distortion is a big no no in that world. He learned it especially for Floor.
Henk was the original Phantom in the Dutch musical for years, so he knows this song like the back of his hand. I've heard that Andrew Lloyd Webber has even said Henk Poort was his favourite 'Phantom'!
I know nothing about singing but, it’s obvious they’re both master technicians just by how effortless they look acting it out while sounding this good.
Just found your channel and I'm now bingewatching every video :D. I love that you also focussed on Henk's singing, since he's an incredible singer. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Floor, however there are TWO incredible singers here and I love that you gave both of them the attention they deserve.

That was actually the final episode for floor also that's the first time ever Hank did that Hank has also played The Phantom of the Opera for production
Henk was the Dutch Phantom (ages ago), and that made him a famous Bariton in the Netherlands, Floor has sang this before too so they both knew what to do.
From what I've heard this is only the second time in his career that hes used the gravelly voice the first being on this same show when he sang Disturbed's version of the sound of silence. He actually played the phantom in the Dutch production of the phantom of the opera in the 90s. Definitely should give his version of the sound of silence a listen.
This version arrangement is by Nightwish. Yes, its rock😖🤘. Henk was asked Floor:"How mush distortion you want". Thanks for this hilarious reactionvideo🤪.
I saw them live on Floors Solo Tour here in The Netherlands, my sister bought the tickets for the show on the first of february in The Hageu, with Henk Poort as special guest 👀👀 He lived 15 years of his live and almost sang with Andrei Bochelli but Henks management botched it up with money demands 🐱👤 Henk is a trained Baritone Opera singer and member of the dutch trio "The Three Baritones" but many of his performances are as a tenor on stage.
Cornelius Antonius I love the typo: Brained Baritone Opera singer ;-D . I assume you mean trained but brained has a nice ring to it :-) . I just now realize you can also read it as lost his brains. I read it as smart singer.
Cornelius, My first reaction to this comment (before I was done reading the entire thing) is that I am SO JEALOUS that you got to be there!!! I could see where Henk is fully capable of covering the tenor position but I didn't know he did that in shows. That's pretty cool!
FYI: This Phantom of the Opera version was using Nightwish arrangement from Century Child 2002 album, which you can also react to in End of an Era live show from 2006 with Tarja Turunen as vocalist. The distorted vocal Henk did pay homage to Marco Hietala's rough devilish vocal from Nightwish' arrangement. I guess you could say it was an homage to floor. He did it the first time when he was sang David Draiman's version of sound of silence a few weeks earlier. He was copying David Draiman's growl and rasp on that song.
I love these episodes, because nobody expected a "metal" singer to be such an incredible talent... the other participants constantly look delighted and amazed. (Didn't hurt that she's such a sweetheart off stage.) This is where Floor became a national treasure in the Netherlands.

If you pay attention to the instrumentation in the background throughout the song (heavy rock guitar and drums), this was clearly intended as a cover of Nightwish's cover of The Phantom of the Opera, which is why Henk added the distortion to his voice in the latter part of the song. Henk is primarily a theater/classical singer, so you have to admire him for being such a good (s)Poort. 😉😉😉
I love this performance 😍 Henk really impressed me because I didn't know his work either. Floor was amazing as usual. Please: Myles kennedy - "Watch over you" live at billboard Leprous - "Acquired Taste" live at Rockefeller Music Hall

Man .... as one of your subs I've been waiting soooo long for you to stumble upon this and give your comments hahaha... you took your time!! BUT... great reaction as always (and educational as well). So thanks for this. Looking forward to any new reaction :-)
One thing you should know about Henk: He *was* the Phantom in the Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera. If there is anyone that knows this song, it is him, especially after the fact that out of everyone that has played the Phantom, Andrew Lloyd Webber said that Henk was his favorite. And yes, that includes anyone in the original 1986 production. Also to note: what you're hearing is the Nightwish arrangement of the song. This arrangement appeared on one of their albums about 20 years ago, and was played live where Marko (the bassist) sang the Phantom's role with distortion, which is why you hear it with Henk here. Original video of that is here (though with Tarja Tarunen, the original singer of Nightwish): ruclips.net/video/8VgLKXD-BoY/видео.html
Floor was amazing in this show. And then, listen to this: "NIGHTWISH - Shoemaker (Official Lyric Video)" (from the new album of Nightwish) and "Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem - Live Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour" ;).
Interesting how she knew to do the unison with one note to bring it into collation to bring it in later with the harmonic minor. That is knowing what you are really doing. Rare in this world of metal music.
Voices I know I myself couldn't do, I think you hit the notes very well. You're self deprecating of your own qualities is endearing and makes you that much more likable. (so continue doing it. ;) )
Are you aware that as they were recording this it had been pouring with rain and water was leaking through the roof onto the stage, set and band. Makes this performance all the more remarkable.
To my knowledge, this is only the second time Henk sang with distortion. The first time was with his performance of The Sound of Silence. Also, Henk has played the role of The Phantom.
7 Months ago you were wondering who she was when you heard Ghost Love Score for the first time. I had only just heard her myself. Loved your reactions, a bit of humour, knowledgeable. Thanks.
Henk is with his growl is honoring Floor by giving homage to the Nightwish cover of the song (Sung by original vocalist Tarja Turunen) where Marko, Nightwish's bassist sings the part with an aggressive, growl. The song itself gives homage to the Nightwish version as well, as the song's arrangement quickly moves toward their version with it's heavier rhythm.
I have a very high register and would love to try it one day. it's very ambitious I know but I hit a high A one day in a choir. I respect Floor all the way around. Henk could sing to me anytime. I want to hear Floor sing with Donny Osmond. that talent would blow everyone away.
it was pouring rain during this performance you can see it if you look closely! They were actually very concerned the whole tent structure may collapse at one stage. Just some extra drama for the performance!
Great performance and reaction! There is a new live performance by Floor you really need to check out. She went on Planet Rock and did an acoustic version of one of their new songs, How’s the Heart, from The Nightwish album that just released. It will literally melt your brain - one of the most fantastic performances I have seen.
"Yours Is An Empty Hope" by Nightwish (Live) please! It will give great insight into more of Floor's ability, and I'm super interested in your analysis.
The change in Henk's voice was a kind of joke refering to an other episode of this program. There he told us this was normaly not done in his style of music. Still, one of the best perfomances in the series!
Great reaction 😀👌👌 great choice..also listen to davina michelle, she was on an earlier version of beste zangers and listen to the cover of hoziers take me to church🙏🙏

Henk Poort in a well-known opera singer here in the Netherlands. He was also the original phantom of the opera. What I've always understood is that Henk Poort is Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite singer in the The Phantom of Opera. I don't know a lot about it, but that's what I once understood. The disturped singing is a big no no is the world of opera/musical
Henk was declared one of the best Phantoms by Andrew Lloyd Webber. When the guy who envisioned it all says your interpretation is (one of) the best, clearly you can sing. Most people haven't heard Henk before this duet and are surprised.
You should realy try some of the other duets aswell. Henk poort with Emma Heesters (vivo per lei) is realy good. Also The duet With Floor and Tim is great to.
Both perform Nightwishs version of "The Phantom of the Opera". Henk adapts. I THINK, he wants to sing this with Nightwish at some point. OMG what a thought :). Thank you for this reaction-video Sam. BYE.
For your sitcom idea, you'd need more characters:
-- As Floor's slightly confused bestie: Simone Simons (Epica), who continually cracks dirty jokes (which Simone reportedly likes to do) and keeps mislaying her glasses.
-- As cranky, disheveled younger brother of Henk: Marko Hietala (bassist / male vocalist of Nightwish), who looks grim and fearsome but has a heart of gold. He could be a plumber or builder with unconventional ideas about safety and improvisation.
-- As Floor's brother, a brooding, starving poet, forever living on Floor's handouts: of course Tuomas (songwriter, keyboardist, boss of Nightwish).
-- As Floor's love interest: Hannes van Dahl (drummer of Sabaton; they're married, with daughter, in real life) as an occasional cameo, let's say as a social worker or indeed a drummer.
-- As loud, muscle-bound, perenially grinning, somewhat thuggish neighbor who breeds bulldogs: Joakim Brodén (singer of Sabaton).
-- As punkish, aggressive, slightly bipolar friend from earlier days with bad impulse control: Alissa White-Gluz (singer of Arch Enemy).
Floor would be managing a commercial but ailing horse stable and trying to keep it together, always conflicted between the need to make money and her desire to treat the horses well. Henk is the town mayor, and well-off, and he and Floor share a house because of a complicated arrangement with the mayor's deceased brother, who was Floor's uncle by marriage. Henk is primarily a theater/classical singer, so you have to admire him for being such a good (s)Poort. 😉😉😉
I love this performance 😍 Henk really impressed me because I didn't know his work either. Floor was amazing as usual.
Please:
Myles kennedy - "Watch over you" live at billboard
Leprous - "Acquired Taste" live at Rockefeller Music Hall
Since i read somewhere you plan to make a poll, i hope this counts. If you did this duet with Henk, now his Disturbed version of Sound of Silence is a must!!! You don't wanna miss it. Best version i've ever heard. Goosebumps!
Man .... as one of your subs I've been waiting soooo long for you to stumble upon this and give your comments hahaha... you took your time!! BUT... great reaction as always (and educational as well). So thanks for this. Looking forward to any new reaction :-)
Yeah, it's Floor's world. We just live in it! 😋
This was the first time Henk ever used distortion on his vocals. Yes, it was to give Floor a smile. Great rendition and reaction. Later SST!
It’s just awesome fun 😁
Definitely check out Henk’s Sound of Silence, but also Floor performing Shallow & About Love I Don’t Know a Thing 😉
Voices I know I myself couldn't do, I think you hit the notes very well. You're self deprecating of your own qualities is endearing and makes you that much more likable. (so continue doing it. ;) )
Would love to see your analysis of Henk’s rendition of The Sound of Silence from this show.
Are you aware that as they were recording this it had been pouring with rain and water was leaking through the roof onto the stage, set and band. Makes this performance all the more remarkable.
You can see it dripping @6:57
To my knowledge, this is only the second time Henk sang with distortion. The first time was with his performance of The Sound of Silence.
Also, Henk has played the role of The Phantom.
Floor is a swiss armyknife of singing
Right so, and with the power of a Viking-sword :D
7 Months ago you were wondering who she was when you heard Ghost Love Score for the first time. I had only just heard her myself. Loved your reactions, a bit of humour, knowledgeable. Thanks.
Love your reactions 🇺🇸
Just watched the 25th anniversary show from Royal Albert Hall, that production was incredible.
Doesn't matter, Floor is the best Christine.
Henk is the dutch Phantom of the opera ( Het spook van de opera), the pronunciation of Poort is the same as the OOR in Floor.
I have a very high register and would love to try it one day. it's very ambitious I know but I hit a high A one day in a choir. I respect Floor all the way around. Henk could sing to me anytime. I want to hear Floor sing with Donny Osmond. that talent would blow everyone away.
Finally. Lets go dude!
Floors D6 is, if I remember correctly, just half a step below the stageversions Eb6 final note.
He was the main singer for the musical phantom of the opera
I finally understood what vibrato is. Thank you!
Oh, and this particular arrangement was originally done by Nightwish. You can tell by the extended break before the 3rd verse.
If you did around on YT, you can find Henk singing Het Spook in the 90s - unsurprisingly, he's very consistent.
Henk heeft deze musical in Nederland ook gespeeld voor jaren.
it was pouring rain during this performance you can see it if you look closely!
"Its as if contestants are just a launchpad to get on to your next vowel...." Mind blown. Thx.
i
"Yours Is An Empty Hope" by Nightwish (Live) please! It will give great insight into more of Floor's ability, and I'm super interested in your analysis.
loved ur reaction, tnx.
There's one more with Floor from the show.
Before Phantom, she did Shallow with Tim.
The change in Henk's voice was a kind of joke refering to an other episode of this program. There he told us this was normaly not done in his style of music. Still, one of the best perfomances in the series!
React Hank with "The Sound of Silence" from the Same Show!
Great reaction 😀👌👌 great choice..also listen to davina michelle, she was on an earlier version of beste zangers and listen to the cover of hoziers take me to church🙏🙏
he was the phantum of the opera in 2 country's in the 90's ,( england and the netherlands ) andrew loyd webber could him the best phantum he heard that is way he was the phantum in england as wel
Henk was the Dutch Phantom.
Good reaction, mate. Hitting the nail on the head. Would love to hear your reaction on Henk Poort's Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers as well. Did you do that one already?
Gaming Is a thing not yet, gonna make a poll though!
You should check out Henk poort doing disturbed version of the sound of silence on beste zangers 2019, awesome awesome 👏
You should realy try some of the other duets aswell. Henk poort with Emma Heesters (vivo per lei) is realy good. Also The duet With Floor and Tim is great to.
You Delight me Sam!🤘
Both perform Nightwishs version of "The Phantom of the Opera". Henk adapts.
I THINK, he wants to sing this with Nightwish at some point. OMG what a thought :).
Thank you for this reaction-video Sam. BYE.
Performing this with Nightwish the next time they're in the Netherlands was his condition when he agreed to the duet
