During the 6 years I had my WRX I always wish I had a STI. Now that I have a STI I couldnt see myself going back. As a daily driver i can say a WRX is a little more comfortable to just get in and go, in the STI its more of a raw and mechanical feel that could seem less comfortable especially since ive changed out most bushing and mounts. It truly depends if you have the funds to afford the STI, insurance, gas, and other maintenance things like brakes.
💯💯💯💯
he didn't even mention the most significant difference, the handling, STI got the goods with front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD, and WRX got open front diff and open rear diff with electronic vectoring using brakepads 😅
Exactly brother. Me going from the 2017 WRX to a 2020 STI is awesome. The overall driving experience is better to me in the STI. I never thought that Subaru would not ever make an STI.
The Wrx was definitely better for a daily commuter. More comfortable, far better mpg around town (stock for stock) also a good degree more reliable, it was also nice that the Wrx comes with an oil temp sensor from factory. If it was an only car I would recommend the Wrx over the Sti as it’s more reliable, cheaper to mod to about 300-350whp and easier on the wallet for fuel. Now if you have a second car, the sti all the way. Better seats, better suspension, better awd system, 2 lsd, dccd, bulletproof trans good for 750 whp, better sounding whether you stay ulh or go to elh, cost more but has a much higher power ceiling. Better brakes and handling, better intercooler from factory. Maintenance between the 2 is pretty close especially if you use good fluids and parts, although some shops will charge a premium because it says sti on your car. Insurance didn’t cost anymore for me on my 21 sti than it did for the 2020 Wrx I drove previously. Mpg on the sti can be improved, good tune, and a fpr can go a long way. On 91 my stage 3 sti will get about 17-18 mpg city and 22-23 freeway. On e85 that’s a different story hahah about 14-16 city 18-20 freeway.
I have 2018 wrx with a tasteful amount of mods and I love it soooo much.
Great car! Enjoy it man. 🔥
Hi chris 🫶🏾
I started watching since you had the wrx because I had one, but I’ve definitely stuck around for all your other content! Great job Chris and keep up the great work!
Definitely need more commentary’s like this 🔥🔥🔥
Switched it up with this one 🔥
Your videos are always a great vibe keep it up Chris!🫡
Real one brother! Much love. ❤
Nothing beats the sound of an STI with an equal length header and external wastegate set up.
external wastegate sounds amazing with these cars
LOVE THE VIDEOS BRO💪🏽 got my self a 23 wrx 🔥
Both builds were amazing and always super entertaining to watch I have a wrx at the moment and it’s super fun I can imagine how the sti is we’ll see what the future has for me and what kind of attachments do you have to hold your license plate in the back
Great explanation video Chris. This style video was very interesting 🔥 🔥
Had to switch it up! 🔥
Chris changing the video style! Love seeing new ways of editing and sound quality! Much love like always!
Glad you guys enjoyed this little change up!
sti is my favorite 🔥. this is quality content. chris, you deserve 10 million subs. keep it up 🔥😮💨
i’m tryna get my first car and I’ve been looking into the wrx and a civic si both 2020 due to the cost and amount of cars for sale in my area. i’ve never drove stick before but i’ve had visual experience from my brother who owns a acura rsx. ima be attending my first year in college while playing football so I won’t have much time to mod anything. I came across your video tryna figure out if getting a wrx is worth getting especially for my first car. the wrx is my dream car and I have the opportunity to get it but i’m not sure if it’s the car I need. I’m glad I seen the vid bro and if you got any advice or suggestions for me on what I should do I would appreciate that bro.
Love the video Chris! Built my 17 WRX just like your WRX with the same exhaust and J Pipe set up LOL.
So awesome man! Best setup. 🔥
Not worth it to get an STI if you’re gonna slam it, you throw the $10,000 worth of performance upgrades out the window once you slam it on bags to be a show car
not true buddy
It's a flex being able to do something different and modify the top trim model of a vehicle to the way you want; why settle for a lesser trim if you can afford to get what you want?
@@anthonycordova3383imo these cars don’t belong on bags or to be stanced out. If that’s your goal then the wrx is better for you since you won’t miss out on the driving feel that you get from the sti. Night and day difference driving both cars
If you’re looking for a car to race. Subaru isn’t for you man. We out here flexing and having fun that’s what it meant for me. Not sure about other Subieowner.
@@Hserkuoutdoormust have never been to a rally, hill climb or auto cross then😂
You will see plenty of gc8, sti, brz.
Yo you gotta make more series like this with the voiceovers, the quality is 🔥, definitely could evolve the channel
Bet! Gonna do one with the FRS/BRZ 💯
Had a wrx before I bought my 21 sti and I couldn’t imagine ever going back to a wrx , the sti is better then the wrx at literally everything except I’d say MPG . If you can afford the sti get it , it’s miles better then the wrx .
If your on a budget go for the wrx but if you have the funds go for the sti . But do not ever go for the cvt if you can only get the wrx learn manual . The cvt is absolutely terrible and shifts terrible and they go out prematurely .
Love the vid brother !
Agree! STI is better on paper. All depends on budget and vision. 💯
@@chris_borgesit's not only better on paper, it's better in reality, literally every track test and data, tell me how in Car and Driver's Lightning Lap testfrom 10 years ago a STI did 10 seconds ahead of the newest WRX and how the newest WRX placed one of the worst times ever in Lightning Lap 2024.
One key area the Wrx wins out is longevity. If you drive both and maintain both the same, the Wrx will likely last an extra 40k -60k miles over the sti before it needs a rebuild.
Im looking into getting an sti within the next yr or so. I love the way they sound...
Nah, man just more and more fresh content love it💓🔥💪
Appreciate you fr!
I like both STI/WRX. Awesome video by the way. I like this style video.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the different vibes today. 💯
Love the video!🫶
Thanks bro’
been in my 19 wrx for over 2 years now. immediately after sitting in that interior, i knew i wanted to throw the STi recaros in there. by the time i round out my interior with everything i wanna do to it, it’ll basically look like an STi on the inside. back when i got my car, the market was wild, but today i can get a newer STi with less miles for cheaper than i paid for my wrx.
Question for anyone. I purchased a 2019 WRX about 7 months ago. I want to do a lot of work to it, but the first thing I want to do are the brakes. A big brake kit is going to cost you $5k right off the bat, so it sounds more reasonable to just trade up to a 2024 WRX TR. The brakes, seats, and sound system alone balance out the difference in cost, of what I'd be spending to upgrade to the TR. Any thoughts?
Video quality sickk
Thanks bro! Something different
I like the STI better. I owned a 2017 WRX and now I own a 2020 STI. A night and day difference. 😊 A great video brother.
🔥💯 Thank you bro!
Ever since i was introduced to the WRX i knew it had to be my dream car. Now i own a 2018 WRX premium and its my summer daily/project car and I love everything about it.
So sick bro congrats on achieving that!
Great Video! I’m subscribed 👍❤
Thank you so much!
What rear license plate extension is that so fire 🔥
Hey Chris, do you have a video of what you enjoy more between the STi and the BRZ? And if you had to choose one, which would it be?
I put shell 91 in all my performance toys/vehicles. Definitely notice the difference in 91 from shell compared to Petro
I love my 50th anniversary Wrx! Put in the hks bov with recirc because of your old vid!
Yesss that thing sounds amazing!
Genuine question, if you were in a budget and can ONLY consider the wrx for around 22k. Would you prefer to settle fo a used 15 mustang gt at around 77k miles over the wrx?
I’m trying to make my Wrx sound alittle better! It is stock, where would be a good place to start ?
wrx is my first manual car, and i can tell its a very weird feeling when you shift, from neutral to halfway in gear it feels like its getting clogged or something, ive been looking into gearboxes and short shifters that fix it
had a basic bolt on wrx and recently got an sti making a bit more power and the difference is night and day between to 2, after buying the STi i’m not sure what i was even thinking buying and modifying the WRX
Appreciate the video. I had an 18 wrx and now have a 17 sti and I love the sti a lot more personally. Just the way it handles and the way the car feels in general is night and day. The wrx feels light and not as planted. Also the extra power and the way the transmission feels. I mean if you can afford it I think the sti is a no brainer
💯💯💯💯
Yo Chris where did you get the rear license playe extension thing
Got it on amazon lol!
For my wrx I only run shell 93 tuned at 300HP and 321 tq and I get 26 mpg. What I love about my wrx is the money I saved from buying the wrx Ive been able to put into mods making my wrx a blast and I never feel like I shouldve gone for the STI. However, one day I will buy an 05-07 STI for my dream build but for now I love my wrx it has been so good to me.
That’s awesome! All that matters is you enjoy your car for what it is. 💯
1 love your content 2 new to the wrx /sti community last year . I went with a 2023 wrx limited . No regrets . I couldn’t justify the cost of a used STI and not knowing its true condition being used . 3 it’s one thing to afford a reasonable payment but most young buyers ( me @ 50) factor in insurance and daily maintenance that most forget and suffer from shiny objects and just say I want it ! lol , however my question is what is insurance like on west coast cause your gas prices are stupid high ? 😂🎉
Can’t go wrong with either tbh! Whatever your budget it, the wrx and sti are good choices with TONS of aftermarket support 🙌🏾
Personally have owning a 21 wrx and a 19 sti I did love the sti feel more than the wrx but for a daily definitely the wrx being more reliable and not as expensive for parts as the sti reason why I sold the sti and went to a 2018 50th anniversary wrx I got a lot of the sti type goodies and still kept the wrx reliable engine. Definitely agree with everything you said as well tho great video 🔥
For my 17th bday my dad is gonna buy me a 2016-2018 Wrx and it’s gonna be my first time learning how to drive manual any tips
personally not too big on the VA chassis but i appreciate a comparison video like this.👍
Thank you!
I love my WRX just been saving up to add stuff to it. But goal is to make it look like your old WRX! That inspired me to try to upgrade my WRX after I bought it
Miss that car sm 😭
any1 know how i could convice my parents to let me get one? Im 18 and I should be able to do what I want but na they wont let me. I have a car rn that I could easily sell for 10k and I have enough extra to buy a wrx and my parents(especially mom) wont let me because my car only has 30k miles and its in good conditon. I have been wanting a wrx prolly since 2020 or since I been able to sit in a car and drive it. I need help to convince them
Not a huge mechanic guy at all, can I get the same blow off sound without all the extra mods you put in if I just buy the blow off valve and the rest stock?
Been awhile minute content
I would love to see a video comparing the old 86/frs/brz with the new one!
Coming soon! In the works
In my opinion, the STI is much better. A better overall driving experience for me. I drive from Oceanside ca to my job in Irvine Ca every day. I love it. Subies forever guys and girls. 😊
My 21 sti limited was around 17k more than I paid for the 2020 Wrx base I traded for it. Having driven both in the same day it ain’t 17k better stock for stock. It is definitely a step up however it’s like a Wrx with a stage one tune better not a v8 and adding a supercharger better.
What's your front lip in your sti?
Where you get that mic from
one thing i hate about the wrx, is the seats. You sit too close to the gas pedal if you want to be able to full press the clutch down. Maybe it's just me, but thats one of the main thing i like about the sti over the wrx
They have the same seats on the VA lol
Also don’t like how high the seats are in both cars 😂
Day idk anymore of trying to get Chris to checkout my 2jz swapped gt86 since I’m in SoCal too
yessss let’s go new vid
Finally some STI content!
Would you ever consider the 370z platform ?
I think it really depends on your situation. Personally I commute 50 miles to work everyday (100 round trip) I wanted something efficient but not boring. Something sporty but practical. Comfortable but with some above average performance. I think a WRX is perfect for that. It even makes a good small family car being a 4 door with a roomy trunk and back seat. I love my WRX. I think STI’s are awesome but I’ve never regretted choosing the WRX instead.
Chris i need to see another 5.0 this year please 🐺
Chris go with wk motorsport short shifter sti wrx
Love the video man, I can say myself I love the wrx and how it feels very comfortable car and the gas isn’t to bad to fill up is around 40$
Appreciate it man!
@@chris_borges hey man I have a question what camera are you using to record your videos ?
I have a 2019 WRX stage 2 and i love it
I've wanted an STI for so long. I think the best part about them is the raw mechanical driving experience. It's gotten difficult to find them unmodified. I was so close to getting one a couple months ago. Found one unmodified with 35k miles, but it got sold the day before I went to the dealership... Personally, I think I've had my fun with turbo 4 cylinders. I'm itching to get into something N/A V8 now lol.
They feel so solid! But aye can’t go wrong with a big V8 too. Had so much fun in my past mustang!
4:30 i used to use the nex gas and my shit was running hella sluggish, i switched to chevron and its been running smooth since. graham with boostedperformance recommended it
shell and chevron > 🔥
Great comparison. Honestly, I'm just too poor to own an sti. 😅 Luckily, I was able to get a 2020 wrx PP. Good enough for me since I have sti brakes (from 04-17), factory installed SS and recaro seats. I'm also able to hit 30mpg on a long commute
I followed the full WRX build! Currently have a 21 WRX. I was bummed when you sold it. But you kind of reached your limit on building it! The STI has been fun to watch as well. Oh, I stick to Shell gas.
Ayy appreciate you sticking around bro! Hope you’re having fun with your build. 🙏🏻
@@chris_borges My build is simple. Keeping it OEM+. I am just adding all the STI accessory. Trying to copy the WRX S4 model.
For gas where I live we only have Chevron, Shell, and Mavericks
After getting my GR86 tuned for flex fuel, I stay hitting the Shell with the E85 pump. Solid 60% ethanol from the local one. 🌽 🔥
I go to shell for 93 and this local station by me called mighty joes for e85.
I learned manual about a year and a half ago on a friends g 37 what’s a good car that I should get to start diving manual more?
Depends on your space needs and wants in a car build. 2 or 4 door, power goals, etc etc.
@@chris_borges don’t really care about power and that stuff I just want a car that I can drive because I don’t have a manual car of my own just a automatic
At least look it up, but the reason why shifters feel different between the two is that the wrx is cable actuated and the sti is rod/linkage(feeling is more direct).
Another difference in feeling is the steering ratio.
Day 12, We want the BRGS Jet Tag!!
Coming coming 💯
@@chris_borges 😘
I got a cvt made her stage 2 shes still fun lmao yall crazy. do i wish i knew i to drive manual or took the time, maybe but price was also better for cvt
A few bucks on a brass shifter bushing makes a world of difference in the WRX shifter feel
6:47
I'm 90% sure 'S/S#' is not a tune, it doesn't change the torque. All it does is adjust throttle response, aswell as 'I' heavily delays throttle response and reduces turbo spooling.
I upgraded from an FRS to a WRX, and I really miss the race-car type feel. Think i'm gonna pull the trigger on an STI for sure. I fill up gas at Costco and haven't had any problems🤞🏼
Try and short shifter! Would definitely change up that driving feel. 💯
Man I miss the old wrx such a vibe
I love both WRX and STI. I also own both but I treat my STI like my weekend car and my WRX as my daily. I can say it's hard to choose between them both because they both deliver in their own ways. Plus my STI has very low miles and I'm trying to keep it that way . It's bone stock 8k miles 😂.
That’s dope that you have both! 💯
I love your STi more than your WRX. I have a 2018 STi bought brand new in 2017. I have tons of mods done to my car and love every minute of it. I would smile every time I would drive it, my 3 year old son loves it which makes me happy. It has full bolts and on flex fuel right now running e85, it’s amazing to drive. I feel like if you want just a quick car and make it a show car then go with a WRX, that way you can put bags on it and slam it whenever you park the car. My STi is sitting pretty low on Fortune Auto but I also have supporting mods for the suspension. STi is for race and WRX is for show is how I see it. But I have seen quick WRX’s though, not so much FA20 but obviously the older WRX’s with the EJ motor.
Definitely both have their specific styles uses as far as track/show! Makes sense. Hope your build is going great bro!
Hele Sometimes Shell depending where I’m nearest too
I paid for my 2019 sti used with 25k miles 36,000 with 100k mile warranty back in 2020
Damn
Price seems about right for that time!
@chris_borges yeah chris sadly idk if the price has gone up or down ,I mean is the sti really gonna hold it's value in the long run, like the evo
@@forgetfulyoseph $36k in 2020 is now $43,444 in 2024 dollars.
Got my 21 limited new in 2021 for 43.5k before tax.
Wrx .. all the way until I cop myself a ram TRX.. now I can. I already purchased my home time for the truck
2020 WRX premium w/sunroof, AWE Touring catback and Grimspeed equal length headers pushing 320hp
Solid 🔥
@@chris_borges Forgot the Grimmspeed inter-cooler to keep it cool. The stock is crap.
Which is more fun all around a STI or brz/frs?
2 different vibes tbh. BRZ/FRS for me. Might be biased since it’s my first car but they just feel more sporty.
Daily 2018 wrx tune on 91, I use chevron
Stick to Cheveron especially if your car is tuned for higher octane fuel. It tests truer octane vs other gas stations where, say 91 octane, will test closer to 90 or even 89. Chevron is usually more expensive, but that's why
😂... I love both of them so idk if there's a need to decide. Since My pocketbook is in the dumps, I guess a WRX, Automatic too!---Only because I enjoy driving and Not working To Drive. I work too much as it is, I feel like working a stickshift, a clutch, and the basics are a Huge turn off and More work. Turn the key, put in gear, and go!!!!!😅.... until I park.... that's how I like it! 👍 Oh, And Racetrac/Sam's club is the gas station I go to.😉
I had a 2018 WRX for about 2.5 years before trading it in for a 2018 STI. Honestly, I do really prefer the STI because of the sound and the performance, but I have had alot of issues with it since getting it (probably because I'm the 5th owner of the STI whereas I was the 2nd on the WRX). Even with so many issues, I would definitely stick with the STI. Wish I would've kept my Varis wing before trading it in, but hey. You live and you learn.
Ahh that’s unfortunate.. What issues are you dealing with just curious ?
@@chris_borges When I first got it, the engine jumped timing and had to be rebuilt the day after I got it. (That was like 6 months ago now?) Got it back after 2 months and had a bad o2 sensor. Then, last week, my power steering belt broke and my crank pulley got warped. Currently waiting on a new crank pulley. But other than that, my STI is stage 1 w/Cobb intake, straightpiped exhaust, and an HKS bov so at least it makes good noises when it runs 😅
i got a 2016 wrx and it looka exactly like Chris's just wrapped different color
So dope 😭🔥
@@chris_borges means a lot from you❤️
I have wrx and I'm pushing about 375hp but honestly I put almost 10g just make that fast but probably would of been so much faster if I had sti. But I gave up on speed now I just want it to look good wish it does, if ur into looks get wrx if ur about speed and tracking ur sti all day that best way to choose in my opinion.
You can do all of that with the wrx. The Wrx is lighter and faster in a straight line and with certain mods it’s just as good on a track🫡
sunoco n 45 or so for 86 full tank in soflo lol cant imagine socal
I have the 2020 Sti and I love it i prefer it over the wrx any day just the interior alone on the wrx is just cheap
Looks like the perfect ride.
Thanks man!
I'm a little rice at heart and dont care much about speed so the WRX does it all for me. Mostly aesthetic mods on my end. STi is hella cool for sure though and definitely feels better to drive (shifter and all).
I think the difference between the two cars is the power ceiling potential, if you want more than 400whp get an STI, because the WRX 6 speed can't handle the power when compared to the STI 6 speed,
Get some ceramic brake pads and won’t have to worry about brake dust like the stockers.
Birthday cruise👀
Yessir middle of june!
STi is way better. It sounds and drives amazing. You said it yourself, the WRX is like driving a manual camry.
Agree haha. With some bolt ons the WRX is not bad at all!
Camrys don’t have turbos
@@GotBoostMyBoy Ok?
I say bs. Maybe comparing the VA wrx to the STI yes. But the VB wrx fixes 90% of the issues with the Va WRX.
sad to say i have both as well but the money i spent putting in my wrx came out to the price of my stock sti. and now my wrx is faster and better than my sti for the same price. Bank for buck WRX with a built block and some bolt ons is better then a stock sti and its all around the same price..
I bought my sti back in 2020 and it was 33k with 15k miles for my 18 base and the non recaro seats are terrible 🤣 me and my friend make jokes about it sitting on plywood. I drove in a sti with the recaros and that’s the way to go the top portion of the seats are way more comfortable for the price difference they should have been included alone but of course they have to make more money. I own a 2020 wrx got it for 25k with 27k miles and don’t miss my sti for the 15 mpg I would get miss everything else but one day I will sti drivetrain swap my wrx. I find it crazy to buy one now unless it’s stock and not modified I happen to get two that haven’t been modified meaning tuned but my sti definitely had a catback since it had a crazy leak around the mid pipe.
WRX was fun and economically sensible to drive as my daily driver. However, the STI is an enthusiast experience. STI is now my daily driver; if you can afford it, STI all the way!
If you want to do performance go for the STI👍 but if you want exterior and interior mods then WRX it’s the best option 🔥YOU ARE THE REASON WHY I GOT A WRX!! 🙌
I had 2 VA STI’s before now owning my VB. WRX is a better daily and the STI is a better analog drivers car. If I could go back and choose 1 as a daily driver, it would be a difficult choice. That’s a testament to how good the VB WRX is (for its price).
If you’re a WRX owner, yes the STI is special but your/our cars are dope too 🤘🏾
Btw Chris, the VB is a lot closer to an STI than a VA WRX in terms of performance/driver engagement
Heard a lot of good things about the VB! Had lots of fun driving one too they have so much potential. 💯
