Growing up on music of that era we simply rocked out on songs like Hell. Understanding of lyrics came later. Artists must know this. And I’m glad because I wouldn’t want to be saddened by the first listen of that totally rockin’ song.
Imagine being there in 1979 when this blasted out of the radio the first time. We were all absolutely blown away--she came otu of nowhere, with that voice. If you weren't rocking so hard to it all, you would have stood there with your mouth hanging open in astonishment at what you were hearing. We all knew we were hearing someone who would be huge. How could she not be with that incredible voice, and that three jean sizes too small tight sound backing her up? I was 17 when it came out, and, believe me, I'm so grateful to have been a young person at such a time. Luckiest music generation--EVER.

Lita Ford is another solid rock choice. Another former member of The Runaways. "Kiss Me Deadly" and her collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne "Close My Eyes Forever" are good.
Yes! It's been said a hundred times already, but "Hell Is For Children" is a banger! Rockin' tune in it's own right, then add the message of the lyrics and it hits hard. You'll love it.
Pat Benatar, one of the great trailblazers for women in music. No offense meant to Whitney Houston fans, but it was a stone-cold CRIME that she was bumped from induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year with an out of nowhere, last-minute insertion of Whitney into the Hall. A CRIME! Because without Pat Benatar, Whitney would *not* have had her career. Benatar opened doors that later female musicians walked through to their own success.

I saw her in 2001. She played at a private function when I was a pharmaceutical rep in Memphis Tennessee at the House of Blues for a doctors association meeting and she was amazing absolutely blown away by her. I was a senior in high school when she rose to fame so her music is very important to me. Thanks so much for reviewing her.

My dad introduced me to her music in the early 80s. We'd listen to her cassettes on long road trips. I surprised my dad 20 years ago and took him to see Pat live at a small venue in NH, Hampton Casino Ballroom. Pat was literally 10 ft in front of us on a small stage and her husband Neil roamed around in the audience with his guitar. She did an a capello version of True Love that was phenomenal. It was an amazing and intimate show. My dad talked about it for weeks. Drove my mom nuts.
Pat Benatar's Husband graduated from my High School and his parents lived in our town. Neil and Pat would visit and be seen just hanging around. It was cool as people respected them and let them just live thier lives. They were both very nice and maybe because of not being bothered would say hello.

Halestorm started out right down the road from me. I’ve been following their rise since the beginning. Lzzy Hale has that classic female rock voice you just don’t hear anymore.
THIS! I'm a fan of older rock, and Halestorm is one of the only rock bands from the post-2000 era that i'll actually listen to. Please check out some Halestorm!
She was one of my favorite rockers in the 80s. She does a cover on one of her albums of Kate Bush’s song called Wuthering Heights and it really shows off her beautiful voice. It’s not really a rock song I don’t think but it’s still a beautiful song and I guarantee you’ll love her voice in it.
Pat Benatar has remained my all time favourite female artist since I first bought "Best Shots" on CD (and cassette) way back in 1987 - She rocks literally!!!!!
Pat is the Bomb!!!!!! My all time favorite. Her voice is untouchable. No one can sing like Pat. Her first 3 albums are by far the best. They Rock!!!!!!!!
I am so glad you are discovering one of the greatest voices in rock. She has no match as far as I'm concerned. She now opens the door for so many contemporary singers, and they owe her a hell of a debt. I grew up listening to Pat Benatar and many others of her generation back then. I was a teenager during the 80s, so I'm thankful I could experience all of this growing up. I'm so glad you are discovering what actual singing is and what true rock and roll is keep it up. Promises in the dark is another one of my all-time favorites of hers. I think it shows her vocal range probably the best.
Thanks so much for covering this song, guys! It's probably my favorite PB song. Others who commented previously that "Love is a Battlefield" is not really typical of Pat's overall style are correct. What you heard here is more akin to the majority of her work. Sidenote: Those harmonies are all her. She performed in musical theatre and trained in opera for years before making a sharp turn to rock. Sidenote 2: That lead guitarist (in the royal blue shirt) is her husband, Neil Giraldo. They've been married for close to 40 years.
Pat killed it back in the day my favorite rock chick and was called the queen of rock. Im 61 and got to see many of the greats but I never could get to see Pat Benetar and I sure regret it.
Top females of the 70's Carly Simon Carole King Linda Ronstadt Olivia Newton John Donna Summer Diana Ross Barbara Streisand Take your pick...you can't go wrong with any of these.
It is a delight to watch your enjoyment as you discover the music of Pat Benatar. I was 15 when the album ‘In The Heat Of The Night’ broke out here in Canada in 1980. My jaw dropped. My siblings and I reacted just as you did. We had to know, “ Who is the woman behind this VOICE on our AM radio?!!” Keep on reacting, friends.
The brilliant voice of Pat Benatar so enjoyed this, another absolutely fantastic voice for female Friday is Toni Braxton her song "Un-Break My Heart" is a must listen to, honestly you would not be disappointed
I was coming here to the comments to suggest Halestorm! I Miss the Misery has that hard rocking gritty sound you like. Lizzy Hale is an amazing female artist.
She has such a great voice. It's outstanding in this song. I remember when she broke into the scene. Her transition from head voice (high) to chest voice (the lower) is a classic example of perfection.
Pat Benatar and Anne Wilson are the two best female voices in rock EVER!
I’ll add Linda but she did many genres

Love pet Benatar she is fantastic you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing a hit song from her in the late 70s through the 80s it is disgusting to me that a few years ago was the first time she was on the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame ballot she’s been eligible for years and she didn’t get in and I’m still mad
You're SO right! Especially considering this years inductees include those 2 famous "rockers" Jay Z and LL Cool Jay.......
but, GreenDay is in... the R&RHoF is a joke.
I think the 70's 80's and 90's were just awesome for music. I am so glad I grew up in that time.
Lita Ford is another solid rock choice. Another former member of The Runaways.
"Kiss Me Deadly" and her collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne "Close My Eyes Forever" are good.
Greatest female guitar player ever as well, Kiss Me Deadly is the perfect choice if you want to rock out.
Pure voice...Pure talent...."Trained Professional"....
I LOVE PAT BENATAR!!!!!
Couldn't agree more. She should have been in on the first try. She is ROCK. Whitney, not so much.
Sure, but she lacked a very necessary component-- she was white.
Whitney Houston was not ROCK, too many non rockers in the Hall of Fame
Never mind Whitney: The RRHOF actually nominated Dionne Warwick for induction. If there's an Easy Listening Hall Of Fame, no problem, but...
Pat reps rock the right way and should be in The Hall of Fame along with Jethro Tull who is still not in incredibly so!
Linda Ronstadt, start with Tumbling Dice. - Linda Maria Ronstadt is a retired American singer who performed and recorded in diverse genres including rock, country, light opera, and Latin. She has earned 10 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award.
Mazy Star - good choice. But please take the live recording:

I saw her in 2001. She played at a private function when I was a pharmaceutical rep in Memphis Tennessee at the House of Blues for a doctors association meeting and she was amazing absolutely blown away by her. I was a senior in high school when she rose to fame so her music is very important to me. Thanks so much for reviewing her.
My all time favorite female rocker. Tiny little thing with the HUGE voice.
"I believe there comes a time when everything just falls in line, we live and learn from our mistakes, the deepest cuts are healed by fate." Please, please, please do "ALL FIRED UP"
Love that one.
Hell yeah! People always forget about that one.
Yes! One of my favorites!
Love that one!
This is who me and all the other little girls in my neighborhood use to choreograph dances to 😆.. Like a bunch of 10 to 13 year olds dancing like nobody was watching..but they were 😁😏
I'm still doing it 😉
As stated before, this is her biggest hit, HOWEVER Hell is For Children, is their signature song, they have played it in every concert but two in the decades they have been together, and was the first band to stand up against for Child Abuse in all its forms.
Saw her in Concert back in the 80's. She is one of my favorite female singers ❤️
Next friday...some suggestions. Allana Myles: Black Velvet. Blondie: One Way Or Another. Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse Of The Heart. Charlie Dore: Pilot Of The Airwaves. Carley Simon: You're So Vane. Anyway, here's a couple to choose from...lol
Yes! Allana Myles' "Black Velvet"!! Her voice is hauntingly beautiful ❤️
How about Bonnie Raitt?
The Pretenders (Chrissy H), Brass in Pocket!
Allana Myles: Black Velvet!!!
For Female Friday, try "Brass in Pocket" by the Pretenders, whose lead singer was Chrissie Hynde. More of mellow rock, but still good.
Middle of the Road is a great song of theirs as well.
Pretenders "The Wait" would be a good song choice if they wanted a bit harder rock.
Pat Benatar is one of a kind!! Great voice, good outfits & rocks out!! Glad u did reaction!!! Thanks.
Something I love about videos and music from back then is it is genuine and real and not auto-tuned. When you saw them live they sound just like the studio versions. They actually have vocal skills unlike many artists these days.
She kicks butt and deserves all the awards and accolades she has received.
You want female vocals more over the top than that, check out Halestorm. Vocalist and guitar player is Lzzy Hale. They do everything from hard rock to ballads. Its not you, Familiar taste Of poison, i miss the misery, I get off, Do not disturb, and they won a Grammy for Love Bites
This!
Pat Benetar "Hell is for children" is a mandatory reaction!! I have spoken! 😄
YES!!!
This one rocks! Love me some PB!
"All Fired Up" is my favorite of hers, but she has so many great songs.
Saw her in concert during this era. So good. Bought all her albums. Great singer. Great band.
Saw her in 2018 and 19 and she's stll got it
Same!🙌
She’s all of 5’1” tall. Talk about power in a small package.
She’s 5 feet tall and 100 feet badass! 😍😍😍
Facts!
Pat Benatar was a unique and talented girl Rocker! Love love this song!
Best song by Pat for me is "Hit Me With Your best Shot"
Oddly, that's the one song she has that I can't stand. Everybody loves it but me.
Singers like Susy Quatro - "Rock Harold", 'Til Tuesday - "Voices Carry" , Linda Ronstadt - "How Do I Make You" ... come to mind.
Til Tuesday "Voices Carry" ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lita Ford would be a logical next choice!
"KISS ME DEADLY"
You guys are awesome!
Pat Benatar - Anxiety - Promises in the Dark - Shadows of the Night - Fire and Ice - You Better Run - We Belong
You need to do Missing Persons with Dale Bozzio. You'll see where Lady Gaga got her fashion ideas from. Try "Walking in LA" or "Destination Unknown."
You have to do her song “Hell Is For Children”! Pat Benatar is iconic!
This is my #1 all time favorite song from the Legend Pat Benatar. Ohhhh Yurrrrr!!!!
"All Fired Up" and "Fire and Ice" are two of her hardest!
Joan Jett’s “Reputation” is a definite must!!
I have been a Pat Fan forever!! Run between the raindrops is one of my favorites! I have so many😉 One Love is another beautiful song❤
Pat Benetar & Neil Giraldo make amazing music together.
Nancy Sinatra... These Boots are made for walking.. live version is a Must too:)
An icon!
Top females of the 70's
Carly Simon
Carole King
Linda Ronstadt
Olivia Newton John
Donna Summer
Diana Ross
Barbara Streisand
Take your pick...you can't go wrong with any of these.
Ah u missed Karen Carpenter....dingy
@@michaelasay6140 They've reacted to Karen already. LOL
The guitarist is her husband. Great songwriting team.
And her voice is still as strong and crisp today…..why she is not in the hall of fame is beyond me
The brilliant voice of Pat Benatar so enjoyed this, another absolutely fantastic voice for female Friday is Toni Braxton her song "Un-Break My Heart" is a must listen to, honestly you would not be disappointed
Check out Halestorm. Lead singer Lzzy Hale. I miss the misery, love bites. And the list goes on. Same grit as Pat Benetar
I was coming here to the comments to suggest Halestorm! I Miss the Misery has that hard rocking gritty sound you like. Lizzy Hale is an amazing female artist.
She has an amazing voice. Easy to spend hours watching her performances on youtube.
I Am the Fire and Freak Like Me as well.
Familiar Taste of Poison and I Get Off are the ones
Halestorm, I Am The Fire is an incredible video and incredible performance.
I've been rocking out to Pat Benatar for over 30 years, and this is one of her best!
She has such a great voice. It's outstanding in this song. I remember when she broke into the scene. Her transition from head voice (high) to chest voice (the lower) is a classic example of perfection.
